악한 왕들에 대한 심판
22 주께서 하시는 말씀이다. “너 예레미야야, 유다 왕실로 내려가서 그들에게 이 말을 전해라. 2 너는 이렇게 말해라. ‘주님의 말씀을 들어라. 다윗의 보좌에 앉아 있는 너 유다 왕과 이 성문들로 들어오는 네 종들아, 3 나 주가 말한다. 너희는 옳고 바른 일을 하여라. 억울하게 빼앗긴 사람을 그를 짓누르는 자의 손에서 구해 주어라. 외국인이나 고아나 과부에게 못된 짓을 하거나 폭력을 쓰지 말아라. 이 곳에서 죄 없는 사람들의 피를 흘리지 말아라. 4 너희가 이러한 내 명령을 잘 지키면, 다윗의 뒤를 이어 왕위에 오른 왕들이 전차와 말을 타고, 신하들과 백성들을 거느리고 이 왕궁의 대문으로 들어올 것이다. 5 그러나 내가 스스로 맹세하지만 만일 너희가 이 명령에 순종하지 않으면, 이 왕궁은 폐허가 되고 말 것이다. 나 주의 말이다.’”
6 이것은 나 주가 유다의 왕궁을 두고 하는 말이다.
“너는 내게 길르앗과 같고
레바논의 산봉우리 같다.
그러나 나는 이제 너를 사막으로 만들고
사람이 살지 않는 성읍으로 만들리라.
7 내가 너희를 무너뜨릴 자들을 세우고
그들의 손에 무기를 쥐어 주리니
그들이 너희의 아름다운 백향목 대들보를 찍어 불 속에 던져버리리라.
8 많은 민족들이 이 성읍을 지나가며, 서로 물을 것이다. ‘주께서 무엇 때문에 이 위대한 성읍을 이 지경으로 만드셨는가?’ 9 그러면 이렇게 답할 것이다. ‘그들이 그들의 주 하나님과 맺은 계약을 저버리고 다른 신들을 예배하고 섬겼기 때문이다.’”

10 너희는 죽은 왕[a]을 위해 울거나
그의 죽음을 슬퍼하지 말아라.
오히려 잡혀갈 왕[b]을 위해 슬피 울어라.
그는 자기가 태어난 땅으로 돌아오지도 못하고
다시는 그 땅을 보지도 못할 것이다.
11 유다 왕 요시야의 아들로 아버지의 대를 이어 유다의 왕이 되었다가, 이 곳에서 잡혀간 살룸에 대해 주께서 하시는 말씀이다. “그는 다시는 돌아오지 못할 것이다. 12 그는 포로로 끌려간 그 곳에서 죽어 다시는 이 땅을 보지 못할 것이다.”

13 “불의로 궁전을 짓고
불법으로 누각을 쌓으며
제 나라 백성에게 일을 시키고도
품삯을 주지 않는 자에게
화가 미치리라.
14 그는 말한다.
‘내가 살 큰 궁전을 짓고
넓은 누각을 올려야지.’
그는 넓은 창문을 내고
백향목 널빤지로 벽을 두르고
붉은 색으로 집을 단장한다.
15 네가 그렇게 많은 백향목을 쓴다고 왕 노릇을 할 수 있을 줄 아느냐?
네 아비에겐 먹을 것과 마실 것이 부족했더냐?
그가 옳고 바른 일을 하였으므로 모든 일이 다 잘 되었던 것이다.
16 그가 가난한 사람과 가엾은 사람의 사정을 들어주고
바르게 처리해 주었으므로
모든 일이 다 잘 되었던 것이다.
그렇게 하는 것이 나를 안다는 것이 아니겠느냐?”
나 주의 말이다.
17 “그러나 네 눈과 네 마음은 불의한 이익을 노리고
죄 없는 사람의 피를 흘리고
백성을 억누르고 착취하는 일에만 쏠려 있구나.”
18 그러므로 주께서 유다 왕 요시아의 아들 여호야김을 두고 이렇게 말씀하신다.
“사람들은 그의 죽음을 두고
‘형제여, 얼마나 슬픈 일인가!
자매여, 얼마나 슬픈 일인가!’ 하며
슬피 울지 않으리라.
그들은
‘임금님, 참으로 슬픈 일입니다!
폐하, 참으로 슬픈 일입니다!’ 하며
슬피 울지 않으리라.
19 그는 죽은 나귀처럼 묻히리니
사람들이 그의 주검을 끌어다가 예루살렘 성문 밖으로 던지리라.”
20 “예루살렘아
너는 레바논 산 위에 올라가 목 놓아 울어라.
네 울음소리가 바산 평야에까지 들리게 하여라.
아바림 산등성이에서 울부짖어라.
너의 동맹국들이 모두 멸망하였다.
21 네가 안전하다고 느낄 때 내가 네게 경고했건만
너는 ‘나는 듣지 않겠습니다.’ 하고 말했다.
너는 어렸을 적부터 이런 버릇이 있어서
언제나 나의 말을 듣지 않았다.
22 너의 목자들은 모두 바람에 날려가고
너의 동맹국 백성들은 포로가 되어 끌려가리라.
그 때 너는 수치와 멸시를 당하리니
네가 저지른 온갖 죄악 때문이니라.
23 레바논[c]에 터를 잡고
백향목 숲 속에 집을 짓고 사는 자들아
아기 낳는 여자의 아픔 같은 고통이 네게 닥치는 날
너의 신음이 얼마나 클꼬?”

24 “나 주의 말이다. 내가 내 삶을 두고 맹세한다. 유다 왕 여호야김의 아들 여호야긴아, 네가 내 오른손에 낀 옥새 가락지와 같다고 할지라도 나는 너를 손에서 빼어버리겠다. 25 네가 두려워하는 자들, 너를 죽이려고 하는 자들의 손에 너를 넘겨주겠다. 곧 바빌로니아 왕 느부갓네살과 바빌로니아 사람들의 손에 넘겨주겠다. 26 나는 너와 너를 낳은 어미를 다른 나라로 쫓아버리겠다. 너나 네 어미가 태어나지 않은 다른 나라로 너희를 보내리니, 너희 둘 다 그곳에서 죽을 것이다. 27 너희는 아무리 고향으로 돌아오고 싶어 해도 결코 돌아오지 못할 것이다.”
28 이 사람 여호야긴은 깨진 천덕꾸러기 항아리
아무도 원치 않는 물건이란 말인가?
어찌하여 그와 그의 자녀들은 이리도 멀리 내던져져
낯선 땅에 버려진 신세가 되었는가?
29 오, 땅이여, 땅이여, 땅이여
주의 말씀을 들어라.
30 나 주가 말한다.
“너희는 이 사람을
‘자식이 없는 자’
‘평생토록 성공을 누리지 못할 자’라고 기록해 두어라.
그의 자식 가운데
성공하여
다윗의 뒤를 이어 왕위에 올라
유다를 다스릴 자가 하나도 나오지 않으리라.”

22 Thus saith the Lord; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word,
2 And say, Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:
3 Thus saith the Lord; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.
4 For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people.
5 But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.
6 For thus saith the Lord unto the king's house of Judah; Thou art Gilead unto me, and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited.
7 And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.
8 And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the Lord done thus unto this great city?
9 Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.
10 Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country.
11 For thus saith the Lord touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more:
12 But he shall die in the place whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.
13 Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;
14 That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.
15 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him?
16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the Lord.
17 But thine eyes and thine heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.
18 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory!
19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.
20 Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan, and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers are destroyed.
21 I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.
22 The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.
23 O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!
24 As I live, saith the Lord, though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence;
25 And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.
26 And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die.
27 But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return.
28 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?
29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord.
30 Thus saith the Lord, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
