유다 왕 므낫세
(왕하 21:1-18)
33 므낫세는 열두 살에 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 오십오 년 동안 다스렸다. 2 므낫세는 주께서 보시기에 악한 일을 하였다. 그는 주께서 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 쫓아내신 민족들의 역겨운 관습을 그대로 따랐다. 3 그는 자기 아버지 히스기야가 헐어 버린 각 지방 신당들을 다시 지었다. 그리고 제단을 쌓아 바알에게 바치고 아세라 장대를 만들어 세웠다. 그는 하늘의 모든 별[a]에게 절하고 그것들을 섬겼다. 4 일찍이 주께서 “내가 예루살렘에 나의 이름을 영원히 두겠다.”라고 말씀하셨다. 그런데 그는 주의 성전에도 우상을 섬기는 제단들을 만들었다. 5 그리고 주의 성전에 있는 두 개의 뜰에는 하늘의 모든 별을 섬기는 제단을 만들었다. 6 그는 자기 아들들을 ‘벤힌놈 골짜기’[b]에서 불살라 제물로 바칠 뿐만 아니라 주문을 외우고, 점을 치고, 주술을 쓰고, 영매와 강신술사[c]를 찾아 물어보기도 하였다. 그는 주께서 보시기에 악한 일을 많이 하여 주의 화를 돋웠다.
7 그는 자신의 손으로 직접 새겨 만든 우상을 성전 안에 갖다 두었다. 그러나 주께서는 일찍이 이 성전을 두고 다윗과 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “내가 이스라엘의 모든 가문 가운데서 택한 이 성전과 예루살렘에 나의 이름을 영원토록 두겠다. 8 만일 이스라엘 자손이 내가 모세를 통하여 준 모든 율법과 규정과 규례에 관한 나의 명령을 지키면, 내가 다시는 그들의 조상에게 준 땅에서 그들의 발이 떠나게 하지 않겠다.” 9 그러나 므낫세는 유다 사람들과 예루살렘에 사는 사람들을 그릇된 길로 인도하였다. 그리하여 그들이 주께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 멸망시킨 다른 민족들보다도 더 많은 악을 저질렀다.
10 주께서 므낫세와 그의 백성에게 말씀하셨으나 그들은 귀를 기울이지 않았다. 11 그리하여 주께서 앗시리아 왕의 군대 지휘관들을 시켜 유다를 치게 하셨다. 그들은 므낫세를 사로잡아 그의 코에 갈고리를 꿰고 놋쇠사슬로 묶어 바빌론으로 끌어갔다.
12 이렇게 고통을 당하자 므낫세는 자기의 주 하나님께 도움을 구하였다. 그리고 자기 조상의 하나님 앞에서 겸손해졌다. 13 므낫세가 하나님께 기도하니 주께서 그의 간절한 기도에 마음이 움직이셔서 그의 간구를 들어주셨다. 주께서 므낫세를 예루살렘으로 돌아오게 하셔서 다시 왕위에 오르게 하셨다. 그때에야 므낫세는 주께서 하나님이신 것을 알았다.
14 그 뒤에 므낫세는 ‘다윗 성’ 밖으로 성벽을 한 겹 더 쌓았다. ‘기혼 샘’ 서쪽 골짜기에서부터 ‘물고기 문’ 어귀까지 ‘오벨 언덕’[d]을 빙 둘러가며 쌓았다. 그는 그 성벽을 훨씬 더 높게 쌓아 올렸다. 그리고 유다의 모든 요새 성읍에는 군대 지휘관들을 머물게 하였다.
15 그는 외국 신상들과 주의 성전에 있던 우상들을 없애 버렸다. 또 성전 언덕과 예루살렘에 세웠던 모든 제단들을 허물어 성 밖으로 내다 버렸다. 16 그런 다음 주의 제단을 다시 쌓고, 그 위에 축하제물과 감사제물을 드리고 유다 백성에게 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 섬기라고 명령하였다. 17 백성들이 여전히 각 지방 신당에서 제사를 드리기는 하였으나 자신들의 주 하나님께만 제사를 드렸다.
18 므낫세가 다스리는 동안에 일어난 다른 일들과 그가 그의 하나님께 드린 기도와 선견자들이 이스라엘의 주 하나님의 이름으로 그에게 전한 말씀은 ‘이스라엘 왕들의 역사’에 모두 기록되어 있다. 19 므낫세의 기도와 하나님께서 어떻게 그의 간구를 들어 주셨는지가 ‘선견자들의 책’에 기록되어 있다. 또한 므낫세가 겸손해지기 전에 지은 모든 죄악과 허물, 지방 신당들을 짓고 아세라 장대와 우상을 세운 장소가 모두 ‘선견자들의 책’에 기록되어 있다. 20 므낫세가 죽어서 자신의 궁전에 묻히니 그의 아들 아몬이 뒤를 이어 왕이 되었다.

(왕하 21:19-26)
21 아몬은 스물두 살에 왕이 되어 예루살렘에서 두 해 동안 다스렸다. 22 아몬은 자기 아버지 므낫세가 한 것과 같이 주께서 보시기에 악한 일을 하였다. 아몬은 자기 아버지 므낫세가 만든 모든 우상에게 예배드리고 그것들에게 제물을 바쳤다. 23 그러나 자기 아버지 므낫세와는 달리 주 앞에서 겸손해지지 않았다. 아몬은 점점 더 죄를 지었다. 24 아몬의 신하들이 그를 반역하여 그를 그의 궁궐에서 암살하였다. 25 그러자 그 땅의 백성이 아몬 왕에게 반역한 신하들을 모두 죽이고 그의 아들 요시야를 왕으로 세웠다.

유다의 14대 왕 므낫세
33 므낫세는 12세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 55년을 통치하였다.
2 그는 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 쫓아낸 이방 민족의 더러운 행위를 본받아 여호와께서 보시기에 악을 행하였다.
3 그는 그의 아버지 히스기야가 헐어 버린 산당을 다시 세우고 바알 제단들을 쌓으며 아세라 여신상을 만들고 해와 달과 별들을 숭배하였다.
4 그리고 그는 여호와께서 영원히 경배를 받으시겠다고 말씀하신 바로 그 성전에 이방 신의 단들을 쌓고
5 성전의 두 뜰에도 하늘의 별들을 숭배하는 단들을 쌓았으며
6 힌놈 골짜기에서 자기 아들들을 산 채로 불에 태워 이방 신에게 제물로 바쳤다. 그는 또 점을 치고 마술과 요술도 행하며 영매와 점쟁이를 찾아다니는 등 온갖 악을 행하여 여호와를 몹시 노하게 하였다.
7 이뿐 아니라 므낫세는 또 자기가 직접 새겨서 만든 우상을 바로 하나님의 성전에 세웠는데 하나님은 이 성전에 대해서 전에 다윗과 그의 아들 솔로몬에게 이렇게 말씀하셨다. “예루살렘의 이 성전은 이스라엘 모든 지파의 땅 중에서 내가 경배를 받을 곳으로 택한 장소이다.
8 만일 이스라엘 사람이 나의 모든 명령에 순종하고 내 종 모세를 통하여 그들에게 준 모든 법과 규정을 지키면 내가 다시는 그 조상들에게 준 이 땅에서 그들을 떠나게 하지 않을 것이다.”
9 그러나 므낫세는 유다와 이스라엘 백성을 꾀어 여호와께서 이스라엘 백성 앞에서 멸망시킨 이방 민족들보다 그들이 더 많은 악을 행하도록 하였다.
10 여호와께서는 므낫세와 그 백성들에게 여러 차례 경고하셨으나 그들은 듣지 않았다.
11 그래서 여호와께서는 앗시리아군을 보내 유다를 치게 하셨다. 그들은 므낫세를 생포하여 갈고리로 그의 코를 꿰고 쇠사슬로 묶어 그를 바빌론으로 끌고 갔다.
12 고통을 당하자 그는 자기 하나님 여호와를 찾고 그 조상의 하나님 여호와 앞에서 완전히 자신을 낮추며
13 기도하였다. 그래서 하나님은 그의 기도를 들으시고 그를 예루살렘에 돌아오게 하여 다시 나라를 다스리게 하셨다. 그제서야 므낫세는 여호와께서 정말 하나님이신 것을 깨닫게 되었다.
14 그 후에 므낫세는 기드론 골짜기에 있는 기혼샘 서쪽에서부터 생선문과 오벨 언덕 일대까지 다윗성의 동쪽 바깥 성을 더 높이 올려 쌓았으며 또 요새화된 유다의 모든 성에 군대의 각 지휘관들을 배치하였다.
15 그는 또 산당에 있는 이방 신들을 없애고 성전에 둔 그의 우상을 내어 버리며 성전 언덕과 예루살렘에 그가 쌓은 단들을 헐어 그 모든 것을 성 밖에 내다 버렸다.
16 그런 다음에 그는 여호와의 단을 다시 쌓고 그 위에 화목제와 감사제를 드리고 모든 유다 백성들에게 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 섬기라고 명령하였다.
17 그러나 백성들은 그들의 하나님 여호와에게만 제사를 드린 것이 아니라 산당에 있는 우상의 제단에서도 여전히 제사를 드렸다.
18 그 밖에 므낫세가 행한 모든 일과 그가 그의 하나님께 기도한 기도 내용과 그리고 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 이름으로 예언자들이 그에게 일러 준 말들은 이스라엘 왕들의 역사책에 기록되어 있다.
19 또 그의 기도와 하나님께서 그의 기도에 응답하신 것과 그리고 그가 회개하기 전에 산당을 세우고 아세라 여신상과 우상을 만들어 섬기며 악을 행한 그 모든 죄와 허물에 대한 솔직한 이야기가 [a]예언자들의 역사책에 잘 기록되어 있다.
20 므낫세는 죽어 그의 궁전에 장사되었고 그의 아들 아몬이 왕위를 계승하였다.

21 아몬은 22세에 왕위에 올라 예루살렘에서 2년을 통치하였다.

23 그러나 그는 자기 아버지처럼 여호와 앞에서 자신을 낮추지 않고 더욱더 많은 죄를 범하였다.
24 그러자 아몬의 신하들이 반역을 일으켜 그를 궁전에서 살해하였다.
25 유다 백성들은 아몬왕을 살해한 사람들을 다 죽이고 그의 아들 요시야를 왕으로 세웠다.

Manasseh King of Judah(A)(B)
33 Manasseh(C) was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord,(D) following the detestable(E) practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites. 3 He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had demolished; he also erected altars to the Baals and made Asherah poles.(F) He bowed down(G) to all the starry hosts and worshiped them. 4 He built altars in the temple of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, “My Name(H) will remain in Jerusalem forever.” 5 In both courts of the temple of the Lord,(I) he built altars to all the starry hosts. 6 He sacrificed his children(J) in the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, practiced divination and witchcraft, sought omens, and consulted mediums(K) and spiritists.(L) He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.
7 He took the image he had made and put it in God’s temple,(M) of which God had said to David and to his son Solomon, “In this temple and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my Name forever. 8 I will not again make the feet of the Israelites leave the land(N) I assigned to your ancestors, if only they will be careful to do everything I commanded them concerning all the laws, decrees and regulations given through Moses.” 9 But Manasseh led Judah and the people of Jerusalem astray, so that they did more evil than the nations the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.(O)
10 The Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they paid no attention. 11 So the Lord brought against them the army commanders of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh prisoner,(P) put a hook(Q) in his nose, bound him with bronze shackles(R) and took him to Babylon. 12 In his distress he sought the favor of the Lord his God and humbled(S) himself greatly before the God of his ancestors. 13 And when he prayed to him, the Lord was moved by his entreaty and listened to his plea; so he brought him back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord is God.
14 Afterward he rebuilt the outer wall of the City of David, west of the Gihon(T) spring in the valley, as far as the entrance of the Fish Gate(U) and encircling the hill of Ophel;(V) he also made it much higher. He stationed military commanders in all the fortified cities in Judah.
15 He got rid of the foreign gods and removed(W) the image from the temple of the Lord, as well as all the altars he had built on the temple hill and in Jerusalem; and he threw them out of the city. 16 Then he restored the altar of the Lord and sacrificed fellowship offerings and thank offerings(X) on it, and told Judah to serve the Lord, the God of Israel. 17 The people, however, continued to sacrifice at the high places, but only to the Lord their God.
18 The other events of Manasseh’s reign, including his prayer to his God and the words the seers spoke to him in the name of the Lord, the God of Israel, are written in the annals of the kings of Israel.[a] 19 His prayer and how God was moved by his entreaty, as well as all his sins and unfaithfulness, and the sites where he built high places and set up Asherah poles and idols before he humbled(Y) himself—all these are written in the records of the seers.[b](Z) 20 Manasseh rested with his ancestors and was buried(AA) in his palace. And Amon his son succeeded him as king.
Amon King of Judah(AB)
21 Amon(AC) was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years. 22 He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done. Amon worshiped and offered sacrifices to all the idols Manasseh had made. 23 But unlike his father Manasseh, he did not humble(AD) himself before the Lord; Amon increased his guilt.
24 Amon’s officials conspired against him and assassinated him in his palace. 25 Then the people(AE) of the land killed all who had plotted against King Amon, and they made Josiah his son king in his place.

Manasseh Reigns in Judah(A)

Manasseh Restored After Repentance
10 And the Lord spoke to Manasseh and his people, but they would not [d]listen. 11 (O)Therefore the Lord brought upon them the captains of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with [e]hooks, (P)bound him with [f]bronze fetters, and carried him off to Babylon. 12 Now when he was in affliction, he implored the Lord his God, and (Q)humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, 13 and prayed to Him; and He (R)received his entreaty, heard his supplication, and brought him back to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh (S)knew that the Lord was God.
14 After this he built a wall outside the City of David on the west side of (T)Gihon, in the valley, as far as the entrance of the Fish Gate; and it (U)enclosed Ophel, and he raised it to a very great height. Then he put military captains in all the fortified cities of Judah. 15 He took away (V)the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord and in Jerusalem; and he cast them out of the city. 16 He also repaired the altar of the Lord, sacrificed peace offerings and (W)thank offerings on it, and commanded Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel. 17 (X)Nevertheless the people still sacrificed on the [g]high places, but only to the Lord their God.
Death of Manasseh(Y)
18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, his prayer to his God, and the words of (Z)the seers who spoke to him in the name of the Lord God of Israel, indeed they are written in the [h]book of the kings of Israel. 19 Also his prayer and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and trespass, and the sites where he built [i]high places and set up wooden images and carved images, before he was humbled, indeed they are written among the sayings of [j]Hozai. 20 (AA)So Manasseh rested with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. Then his son Amon reigned in his place.
Amon’s Reign and Death(AB)
21 (AC)Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. 22 But he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done; for Amon sacrificed to all the carved images which his father Manasseh had made, and served them. 23 And he did not humble himself before the Lord, (AD)as his father Manasseh had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.
24 (AE)Then his servants conspired against him, and (AF)killed him in his own house. 25 But the people of the land executed all those who had conspired against King Amon. Then the people of the land made his son Josiah king in his place.

33 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:
2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel.
3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
4 Also he built altars in the house of the Lord, whereof the Lord had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.
5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord.
6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.
7 And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel.

11 Wherefore the Lord brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

13 And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord he was God.
14 Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.
15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the Lord, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city.
16 And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the Lord God of Israel.
17 Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the Lord their God only.
