모세가 사람들에게 복을 빌어주다
33 하나님의 사람 모세는 죽기 전에 이스라엘 자손에게 다음과 같이 복을 빌어 주었다. 2 모세가 이렇게 말하였다.
“주께서 시내 산에서 내려오시고
세일 산에서 우리 위에 해처럼 떠오르시고
바란 산에서부터 우리를 비춰 주셨다.
수만의 천사가 그분의 뒤를 따르고
그분의 군대가 그분의 오른쪽을 지켰다.
3 오, 이스라엘 백성을 사랑하시는 분이시여
이스라엘의 거룩한 백성이 당신의 손 안에 있습니다.
그러므로 그들이
당신의 발 앞에 엎드려 절하고
당신의 명령에 귀를 기울입니다.
4 모세가 우리에게 그 법을 주니
야곱의 회중은 그것을 유산으로 받았습니다.
5 백성의 지도자들이 모인 가운데
주께서 여수룬[a]의 왕이 되셨습니다.”
르우벤이 받을 복
6 “르우벤이 죽지 않고 살아남게 하여 주십시오.
그러나 그 자손의 수는 적게 하여 주십시오[b].”
유다가 받을 복
7 모세가 유다를 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“오, 주여, 유다가 부르짖을 때 귀 기울여 주십시오.
유다를 자기 백성에게 무사히 돌아가게 해 주시고
그의 손을 강하게 하셔서 스스로를 지키게 하시며
원수들과 싸울 때에 그를 도와주십시오.”
레위가 받을 복
8 레위를 두고서 그가 이렇게 말하였다.
“레위에게 둠밈을 주시고
당신의 충실한 종에게 우림을 주십시오.
당신께서는 맛사에서 그를 시험하셨고
므리바[c] 물가에서 그에게 도전하셨습니다.
9 그는 자기의 아버지와 어머니를 두고서
‘나는 그들을 모른다.’하였고,
형제들을 아는 체하지 않았으며
자식들조차 모르는 척하면서까지
당신의 말씀에 순종하고
당신의 계약을 지켰습니다.
10 그는 당신의 율법을 야곱[d]에게 가르치고
당신의 교훈을 이스라엘에게 가르쳤습니다.
그는 당신 앞에서 향을 피워 올리고
당신의 제단 위에서 번제를 드립니다.
11 오, 주여
그에게 복을 주셔서 기력이 쇠하지 않게 하여 주시고
그가 하는 일마다 기쁘게 받아 주십시오.
그에게 맞서 일어나는 자들의 허리를 꺾으시고
그의 원수들을 치셔서
다시는 일어나지 못하게 하여 주십시오.”
베냐민이 받을 복
12 모세가 베냐민을 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“주께서 사랑하시는 이를
당신 곁에서 편히 쉬게 하여 주시리라.
주께서 그를 하루 종일 지켜주시며
그의 언덕 사이에[e] 머무실 것이다.”
요셉이 받을 복
13 모세가 요셉을 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“주께서 요셉의 땅에 복을 내려 주시리니
위로 하늘에서는 귀한 비를 내려주시고
땅 속 깊은 곳에서는 물줄기가 솟아오르게 하시리라.
14 따가운 햇살에 알찬 곡식이 여물게 하시고
달마다 온갖 과일이 탐스럽게 달리게 하시며
15 태고적부터 솟아 있는 산맥에서 특상품이 나게 하시고
영원한 언덕에는 최상품이 맺게 하시리라.
16 이렇게 땅에서 나는 온갖 좋은 것들과 더불어
불타는 가시떨기 나무 가운데 계시는 분의 은총까지 그와 함께 하시리라.
요셉이 그 형제들 가운데 지도자였으니
이 모든 복이 그의 머리 위에 내리게 하시리라.
17 그의 위엄은 맏이로 태어 난 수송아지의 위엄과 같고
그의 뿔은 들소의 뿔과 같다.
그가 그 뿔로 뭇 민족을 찌르리니
땅 끝에 있는 민족들까지 찌르리라.
이 뿔들이 바로 수만의 에브라임 자손이요
수천의 므낫세 자손[f]이다.”
스불론과 잇사갈이 받을 복
18 모세가 스불론과 잇사갈을 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“스불론아, 너는 네 여행길에서 기뻐하여라.
잇사갈아, 너는 네 장막 안에서 기뻐하여라.
19 그들은 뭇 민족을 산으로 불러 모아
거기서 바른 제사를 드릴 것이다.
그들은 바다에서 큰 부를 얻고
바닷가 모래 속에서도 감추어진 보물을 얻을 것이기 때문이다.”
갓이 받을 복
20 모세가 갓을 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“갓의 땅을 넓혀 주시는 주를 찬양하여라.
갓은 그의 땅에서 마치 사자처럼 살며
사로잡은 먹이의 팔과 머리를 찢는다.
21 그가 가장 좋은 땅을 자기 몫으로 골라잡았다.
지도자에게 돌아갈 몫이 그를 위해 배정되었다.
그는 백성의 지도자로 군림하였다.
그는 주께서 의롭게 여기시는 일을 하고
이스라엘을 두고 내리신 그분의 결정을 집행하였다[g].”
단이 받을 복
22 모세가 단을 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“단은 바산[h]에서 뛰어나오는 새끼 사자와 같다.”
납달리가 받을 복
23 모세가 납달리를 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“오, 주의 은혜를 풍성히 받은 납달리야
주께서 주시는 복을 넘치게 받은 납달리야
너는 갈릴리 호수와 그 남쪽을 차지하여라.”
아셀이 받을 복
24 모세가 아셀[i]을 두고서 이렇게 말하였다.
“아셀은 이스라엘의 아들들 가운데서 가장 큰 복을 받으리라.
그는 형제들 가운데서 가장 큰 은혜를 입어
그의 발을 올리브기름으로 씻으리라.
25 네 성문에는 쇠와 구리로 만든 빗장을 질렀으며
네가 사는 동안 네 힘이 한결 같으리라.”
모세가 주를 찬양하다
26 여수룬아
너희의 하나님과 같은 신은 달리 없다.
하나님께서 너를 도우시려고
하늘을 타고 오신다.
구름을 타고 위엄 있게 오신다.
27 영원하신 하나님께서 너의 피난처가 되시고
영원하신 그분의 팔이 너를 감싸 안으신다.
주께서 “원수를 무찔러라.” 명령하시며
네 앞에서 원수를 몰아내신다.
28 그러므로 이제 이스라엘은 태평성세를 누리며 살리라.
곡식과 새 포도주가 흘러넘치고
하늘에서 단비가 내리는 땅에서
야곱의 샘이 안전하리라.
29 오, 이스라엘아
너희가 참으로 복이 있구나!
주께서 너희를 구하셨으니
너희처럼 복된 민족이 어디 있겠느냐!
그분은 너희의 방패이시요
너희를 도우시는 분이시요
너희의 영광스러운 칼이시다.
너희의 원수가 너희 앞에서 움츠리고
너희는 산등성이에 있는 그들의 산당[j]을 짓밟으리라.

Moses’ Final Blessing on Israel
33 Now this is (A)the blessing with which Moses (B)the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. 2 And he said:
(C)“The Lord came from Sinai,
And dawned on them from (D)Seir;
He shone forth from (E)Mount Paran,
And He came with (F)ten thousands of saints;
From His right hand
Came a fiery law for them.
3 Yes, (G)He loves the people;
(H)All His saints are in Your hand;
They (I)sit down at Your feet;
Everyone (J)receives Your words.
4 (K)Moses [a]commanded a law for us,
(L)A heritage of the congregation of Jacob.
5 And He was (M)King in (N)Jeshurun,
When the leaders of the people were gathered,
All the tribes of Israel together.
6 “Let (O)Reuben live, and not die,
Nor let his men be few.”
7 And this he said of (P)Judah:
“Hear, Lord, the voice of Judah,
And bring him to his people;
(Q)Let his hands be sufficient for him,
And may You be (R)a help against his enemies.”
8 And of (S)Levi he said:
(T)“Let Your [b]Thummim and Your Urim be with Your holy one,
(U)Whom You tested at Massah,
And with whom You contended at the waters of Meribah,
9 (V)Who says of his father and mother,
‘I have not (W)seen them’;
(X)Nor did he acknowledge his brothers,
Or know his own children;
For (Y)they have observed Your word
And kept Your covenant.
10 (Z)They shall teach Jacob Your judgments,
And Israel Your law.
They shall put incense before You,
(AA)And a whole burnt sacrifice on Your altar.
11 Bless his substance, Lord,
And (AB)accept the work of his hands;
Strike the loins of those who rise against him,
And of those who hate him, that they rise not again.”
12 Of Benjamin he said:
“The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by Him,
Who shelters him all the day long;
And he shall dwell between His shoulders.”
13 And of Joseph he said:
(AC)“Blessed of the Lord is his land,
With the precious things of heaven, with the (AD)dew,
And the deep lying beneath,
14 With the precious fruits of the sun,
With the precious produce of the months,
15 With the best things of (AE)the ancient mountains,
With the precious things (AF)of the everlasting hills,
16 With the precious things of the earth and its fullness,
And the favor of (AG)Him who dwelt in the bush.
Let the blessing come (AH)‘on the head of Joseph,
And on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.’
17 His glory is like a (AI)firstborn bull,
And his horns like the (AJ)horns of the wild ox;
Together with them
(AK)He shall push the peoples
To the ends of the earth;
(AL)They are the ten thousands of Ephraim,
And they are the thousands of Manasseh.”
18 And of Zebulun he said:
(AM)“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out,
And Issachar in your tents!
19 They shall (AN)call the peoples to the mountain;
There (AO)they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness;
For they shall partake of the abundance of the seas
And of treasures hidden in the sand.”
20 And of Gad he said:
“Blessed is he who (AP)enlarges Gad;
He dwells as a lion,
And tears the arm and the crown of his head.
21 (AQ)He provided the first part for himself,
Because a lawgiver’s portion was reserved there.
(AR)He came with the heads of the people;
He administered the justice of the Lord,
And His judgments with Israel.”
22 And of Dan he said:
“Dan is a lion’s whelp;
(AS)He shall leap from Bashan.”
23 And of Naphtali he said:
“O Naphtali, (AT)satisfied with favor,
And full of the blessing of the Lord,
(AU)Possess the west and the south.”
24 And of Asher he said:
(AV)“Asher is most blessed of sons;
Let him be favored by his brothers,
And let him (AW)dip his foot in oil.
25 Your sandals shall be (AX)iron and bronze;
As your days, so shall your strength be.
26 “There is (AY)no one like the God of (AZ)Jeshurun,
(BA)Who rides the heavens to help you,
And in His excellency on the clouds.
27 The eternal God is your (BB)refuge,
And underneath are the everlasting arms;
(BC)He will thrust out the enemy from before you,
And will say, ‘Destroy!’
28 Then (BD)Israel shall dwell in safety,
(BE)The fountain of Jacob (BF)alone,
In a land of grain and new wine;
His (BG)heavens shall also drop dew.
29 (BH)Happy are you, O Israel!
(BI)Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord,
(BJ)The shield of your help
And the sword of your majesty!
Your enemies (BK)shall submit to you,
And (BL)you shall tread down their [c]high places.”

33 This is the blessing that Moshe, the man of God, spoke over the people of Isra’el before his death:
2 “Adonai came from Sinai;
from Se‘ir he dawned on his people,
shone forth from Mount Pa’ran;
and with him were myriads of holy ones;
at his right hand
was a fiery law for them.
3 He truly loves the peoples —
all his holy ones are in your hand;
sitting at your feet,
they receive your instruction,
4 the Torah Moshe commanded us
as an inheritance for the community of Ya‘akov.
5 Then a king arose in Yeshurun
when the leaders of the people were gathered,
all the tribes of Isra’el together.
6 “Let Re’uven live and not die out,
even though his numbers grow few.”
7 Of Y’hudah he said:
“Hear, Adonai, the cry of Y’hudah!
Bring him in to his people,
let his own hands defend him;
but you, help him against his enemies.”
(ii) 8 Of Levi he said:
“Let your tumim and urim
be with your pious one,
whom you tested at Massah,
with whom you struggled at M’rivah Spring.
9 Of his father and mother he said, ‘I don’t know them’;
he didn’t acknowledge his brothers or children.
For he observed your word,
and he kept your covenant.
10 They will teach Ya‘akov your rulings,
Isra’el your Torah.
They will set incense before you
and whole burnt offerings on your altar.
11 Adonai, bless his possessions,
accept the work he does;
but crush his enemies hip and thigh;
may those who hate him rise no more.”
12 Of Binyamin he said:
“Adonai’s beloved lives securely.
He protects him day after day.
He lives between his shoulders.”
(iii) 13 Of Yosef he said:
“May Adonai bless his land
with the best from the sky, for the dew,
and for what comes from the deep beneath,
14 with the best of what the sun makes grow,
with the best of what comes up each month,
15 with the best from the mountains of old,
with the best from the eternal hills,
16 with the best from the earth and all that fills it,
and the favor of him who lived in the [burning] bush.
May blessing come on the head of Yosef,
on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
17 His firstborn bull — glory is his;
his horns are those of a wild ox;
With them he will gore the peoples,
all of them, to the ends of the earth.
These are the myriads of Efrayim;
these are the thousands of M’nasheh.”
(iv) 18 Of Z’vulun he said:
“Rejoice, Z’vulun, as you go forth,
and you, Yissakhar, in your tents.
19 They will summon peoples to the mountain
and there offer righteous sacrifices;
for they will draw from the abundance of the seas
and from the hidden treasures of the sand.”
20 Of Gad he said:
“Blessed is he who makes Gad so large;
he lies there like a lion,
tearing arm and scalp.
21 He chose the best for himself
when the princely portion was assigned.
When the leaders of the people came,
he carried out Adonai’s justice
and his rulings concerning Isra’el.”
(v) 22 Of Dan he said:
“Dan is a lion cub
leaping forth from Bashan.”
23 Of Naftali he said:
“You, Naftali, satisfied with favor
and full of blessing from Adonai,
take possession of the sea and the south.”
24 Of Asher he said:
“May Asher be most blessed of sons,
may he be the favorite among his brothers
and bathe his feet in oil.
25 May your bolts be of iron and bronze
and your strength last as long as you live.
26 “Yeshurun, there is no one like God,
riding through the heavens to help you,
riding on the clouds in his majesty.
(vi) 27 The God of old is a dwelling-place,
with everlasting arms beneath.
He expelled the enemy before you
and he said, ‘Destroy!’
28 So Isra’el lives in security;
the fountain of Ya‘akov is alone
in a land of grain and new wine,
where the skies drip with dew.
29 Happy are you, Isra’el!
“Who is like you, a people saved by Adonai,
your defender helping you
and your sword of triumph?
Your enemies will cringe before you,
but you will trample down their high places.”
