Psalm 105

Tell of All His Wondrous Works
105 (A)Oh give thanks to the Lord; (B)call upon his name;
(C)make known his deeds among the peoples!
2 Sing to him, sing praises to him;
(D)tell of all his wondrous works!
3 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!
4 Seek the Lord and his (E)strength;
(F)seek his presence continually!
5 Remember the (G)wondrous works that he has done,
his miracles, and (H)the judgments he uttered,
6 O offspring of (I)Abraham, his servant,
children of Jacob, his (J)chosen ones!
7 He is the Lord our God;
his (K)judgments are in all the earth.
8 He (L)remembers his covenant forever,
the word that he commanded, for (M)a thousand generations,
9 (N)the covenant that he made with Abraham,
his (O)sworn promise to Isaac,
10 which he confirmed to (P)Jacob as a statute,
to Israel as an everlasting covenant,
11 saying, (Q)“To you I will give the land of Canaan
as (R)your portion for an inheritance.”
12 When they were (S)few in number,
of little account, and (T)sojourners in it,
13 wandering from nation to nation,
from one kingdom to another people,
14 he (U)allowed no one to oppress them;
he (V)rebuked kings on their account,
15 saying, (W)“Touch not my anointed ones,
do my prophets no harm!”
16 When he (X)summoned a famine on the land
and (Y)broke all supply[a] of bread,
17 he had (Z)sent a man ahead of them,
Joseph, who was (AA)sold as a slave.
18 His (AB)feet were hurt with fetters;
his neck was put in a collar of iron;
19 until (AC)what he had said came to pass,
the word of the Lord (AD)tested him.
20 (AE)The king sent and (AF)released him;
the ruler of the peoples set him free;
21 he (AG)made him lord of his house
and ruler of all his possessions,
22 to bind[b] his princes at his pleasure
and to teach his elders wisdom.
23 Then (AH)Israel came to Egypt;
Jacob (AI)sojourned in (AJ)the land of Ham.
24 And the Lord (AK)made his people very fruitful
and made them stronger than their foes.
25 He (AL)turned their hearts to hate his people,
to (AM)deal craftily with his servants.
26 He (AN)sent Moses, his servant,
and Aaron, (AO)whom he had chosen.
27 (AP)They performed his signs among them
and miracles in (AQ)the land of Ham.
28 He (AR)sent darkness, and made the land dark;
they (AS)did not rebel[c] against his words.
29 He turned their waters into blood
and (AT)caused their fish to die.
30 Their land swarmed with frogs,
even in (AU)the chambers of their kings.
31 He spoke, and there came (AV)swarms of flies,
(AW)and gnats throughout their country.
32 He gave them hail for rain,
and fiery (AX)lightning bolts through their land.
33 He struck down their vines and fig trees,
and (AY)shattered the trees of their country.
34 He spoke, and the (AZ)locusts came,
young locusts without number,
35 which devoured all the vegetation in their land
and ate up the fruit of their ground.
36 He (BA)struck down all the firstborn in their land,
(BB)the firstfruits of all their strength.
37 Then he brought out Israel with (BC)silver and gold,
and there was none among his tribes who stumbled.
38 (BD)Egypt was glad when they departed,
for (BE)dread of them had fallen upon it.
39 He (BF)spread a cloud for a covering,
and fire to give light by night.
40 (BG)They asked, and he (BH)brought quail,
and gave them (BI)bread from heaven in abundance.
41 He opened the rock, and (BJ)water gushed out;
it flowed through (BK)the desert like a river.
42 For he (BL)remembered his holy promise,
and (BM)Abraham, his servant.
43 So he brought his people out with joy,
his (BN)chosen ones with (BO)singing.
44 And he (BP)gave them the lands of the nations,
and they took possession of the fruit of the peoples' toil,
45 that they might (BQ)keep his statutes
and (BR)observe his laws.

1 Prijs de Heer, aanbid Hem!
Vertel de volken over wat Hij heeft gedaan.
2 Zing, zing voor Hem!
Vertel van al zijn wonderen.
3 Wees blij over zijn heiligheid.
Als je van Hem houdt, wees dan blij met Hem!
4 Ga naar de Heer en vraag Hem om zijn kracht.
Verlang er altijd naar om dicht bij Hem te zijn.
5 Denk aan de wonderen die Hij heeft gedaan.
Vergeet nooit hoe Hij zijn vijanden heeft gestraft.
6 Denk daaraan,
kinderen van Gods vriend Abraham,
kinderen van Gods dienaar Jakob.
7 De Heer is onze God.
Hij spreekt recht over de hele aarde.
8 Hij zal Zich voor eeuwig houden aan het verbond
dat Hij heeft gesloten en dat eeuwen zal gelden,
9 het verbond dat Hij sloot met Abraham,[a]
de eed die Hij aan Izaäk heeft gezworen.
10 het eeuwige verbond dat Hij sloot met Jakob,
11 toen Hij zei: ''Ik zal jullie het land Kanaän geven.
Het zal jullie eigendom zijn."
12 In het begin was het maar een klein volk
dat als vreemdelingen in dat land woonde.
13 Ze trokken van volk naar volk,
van het ene koninkrijk naar het andere.
14 Maar Hij stond niet toe dat een ander volk hen verdrukte.
Vijandige koningen strafte Hij.
15 Hij zei: "Raak dit volk niet aan! Het is van Mij!
Doe mijn profeten geen kwaad!"
16 Toen liet Hij een hongersnood komen,
zodat niemand nog te eten had.
17 Maar Hij stuurde een man voor hen uit:
Jozef, die als slaaf naar Egypte werd verkocht.[b]
18 Daar kwam hij in de gevangenis terecht.
Hij werd met zijn voeten in een blok vastgezet.
19 Jozef werd door God op de proef gesteld,
totdat werkelijkheid werd wat God hem had gezegd.[c]
20 De koning van Egypte liet hem komen.
De heerser van de volken liet hem vrij.
21 Hij maakte hem tot heer over zijn paleis,
en tot heerser over zijn hele land.
22 Zo regeerde Jozef over Egypte
en gaf hij raad aan de leiders van het land.
23 Toen kwam Jakob naar Egypte.
Hij woonde daar als vreemdeling.
24 God zorgde ervoor dat zijn volk heel groot werd,
machtiger dan hun vijanden.
25 Daarom gingen hun vijanden hen haten
en wilden ze Gods dienaren vernietigen.
26 God koos Mozes en Aäron uit
en stuurde hen naar de farao.
27 Ze deden in Egypte de wonderen
die ze van God moesten doen.
28 God riep het donker.
De duisternis kwam gehoorzaam toen Hij riep.
29 Hij veranderde het water in bloed
en de vissen stierven.
30 Het land krioelde van de kikkers.
Ze zaten zelfs in de paleizen.
31 God riep de luizen.[d]
Hij liet luizen komen in het hele land.
32 Hij veranderde de regen in hagel.
Hij liet in het hele land de bliksem inslaan.
33 Hij vernielde wijnstruiken en vijgenbomen.
Hij brak de bomen in hun hele gebied.
34 Hij liet sprinkhanen komen,
ontelbare aantallen kaalvreters.
35 Ze vraten alle groene planten in het land op.
Ze verslonden de oogst van hun akkers.
36 Hij doodde alle oudste zonen
en alle eerstgeboren dieren in het land.
37 Toen nam Hij het hele volk Israël mee.
Hij zorgde ervoor dat ze zilver en goud meekregen.
En niemand van hen was te zwak voor de tocht.
38 De Egyptenaren waren blij dat ze vertrokken,
want ze waren bang voor hen geworden.
39 Hij bedekte hen met een wolk. 's Nachts gaf Hij hen licht met een vuur.
40 Toen ze Hem om eten vroegen, liet Hij vogels komen.
Ook gaf Hij hen brood uit de hemel.
Er was meer dan genoeg voor iedereen.
41 Hij spleet de rots en er stroomde water uit.
Een rivier stroomde door de dorre woestijn.
42 Want Hij hield Zich aan de belofte
die Hij aan zijn dienaar Abraham had gedaan.
43 Hij redde zijn volk uit Egypte.
Zingend en juichend gingen de mensen mee.
44 Hij gaf hun de landen van andere volken.
Alles waar anderen hard voor gewerkt hadden,
was nu voortaan van hen.
45 In dat land moesten ze zich aan zijn wetten houden
en Hem gehoorzaam zijn.
Prijs de Heer! Halleluja!
