다윗이 기브온 사람들의 원수를 갚아 줌
21 다윗의시대에계 3년동안 흉년이 들었다. 그래서 다윗이 기도하자 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하 셨다. “이 흉년은 사울과 그 집안 사람 들이 기브온 사람들을 죽여 범죄한 대 가이다.”
2 그래서 다윗왕은 기브온 사람들을 불 렀다. 이들은 본래 이스라엘 사람이 아니고 아모리 사람 중에서 살아 남은 자들이었다. 이스라엘 사람들이 그들 을 죽이지 않고 보호하겠다고 약속하 였으나 사울은 [a]민족주의적인 열성 때 문에 그들을 전멸시키려고 했던 것이 다.
3 다윗이그들에게물었다. “내가너희 를 위해 어떻게 하면 되겠느냐? 나는 너희가 입은 피해를 보상하여 너희가 여호와의 백성에게 복을 빌 수 있도록 하고 싶다.”
4 “사울과 그 집안과의 우리 분쟁은 돈 으로 해결될 문제가 아닙니다. 그러나 우리에게는 이스라엘에서 사람을 죽 일 권한이 없습니다.” “그러면 내가 너 희에게 무엇을 해 주면 좋겠는지 말하 라. 내가 그대로 하겠다.”
5 “사울은 우리를 학살하여 이스라엘 땅 에한사람도남겨두지않으려고했 습니다.
6 그러므로 그의 자손 중 남자 일곱을 우 리에게 넘겨 주십시오. 우리가 사울의 성이었던 기브아에서 그들을 여호와 앞에 목매어 달겠습니다.” “좋다. 내가 그들을 너희에게 넘겨 주겠다.”
7 그러나 다윗은 자기와 요나단 사이에 서로 맹세한 것이 있으므로 사울의 손 자이며 요나단의 아들인 므비보셋은 아껴 내어주지 않고
8 사울의 두 아들 알모니와 므비보셋과 그리고 외손자 다섯 명을 내어주었다. 그두아들은아야의딸리스바가사 울에게서 낳은 자들이며 그 다섯 외손 자는사울의딸메랍이므홀랏사람 바실래의 아들인 아드리엘에게서 낳 은 자들이었다.
9 그러자 기브온 사람들은 그 일곱 사람 을모두산에서여호와앞에목매달아 죽였는데 그들이 죽은 때는 보리 추수 를시작할무렵이었다.
10 그때부터 두 아들을 잃은 아야의 딸 리 스바는 굵은 삼베를 가져다가 바위 위 에 깔고 추수가 시작된 때부터 하늘에 서비가시체에쏟아질때까지낮에는 시체에 독수리가 앉지 못하게 하고 밤 에는 맹수가 달려들지 못하게 하였다.
11 다윗은 리스바가 행한 일을 듣고
12-14 그 사람들의 뼈를 거두어 오라고 지시하고 사울과 요나단의 뼈를 가지 러직접길르앗의야베스로갔다. 그 곳 사람들은 사울과 요나단이 길보아 산에서전사했을때블레셋사람들이 그들의 시체를 벧산 광장에 매어단 것 을 훔쳐 왔던 사람들이었다. 다윗이 사 울의 뼈와 그의 아들 요나단의 뼈를 가 지고 올라오자 사람들이 나무에 달려 죽은자들의뼈를거둬가지고왔다. 그러고서그들이그모든뼈를베냐민 지파의 땅 셀라에 있는 기스의 묘실에 장사하자 그제서야 하나님이 그 땅에 흉년이그치게하셨다.
블레셋 거인들을 죽임
15 그 후에 이스라엘 사람과 블레셋 사람 사이에 또다시 전쟁이 벌어졌다. 다윗 이 부하들과 함께 출전하여 블레셋 사 람들과 싸우다가 피곤하여 지쳐 있을 때
16 [b] 3.5킬로그램이나되는놋쇠창을 들고 새 칼을 찬 이스비-브놉이라는 적의 거인 하나가 다윗에게 접근하여 그를 죽이려고 하였다.
17 그러나스루야의아들아비새가왕을 구출하고 그 블레셋 거인을 쳐죽였다. 그때 다윗의 부하들은 “이제 왕은 두 번 다시 출전하지 마십시오. 우리는 [c]이스라엘의 희망이신 왕을 잃고 싶지 않습니다” 하였다.
18 그후에또곱에서블레셋사람과전쟁 이있었다. 이전쟁에서는후사사람 십브개가 적의 거인 삽을 쳐죽였다.
19 그리고 곱에서 또 다른 전쟁이 있었을 때 베들레헴 사람 [d]야레-오르김의 아 들 엘하난이 가드 사람 골리앗의 동생 을 죽였는데 그의 창자루는 그 굵기가 베틀채 같았다.
20-21 가드에서또다른전쟁이있었다. 적군 가운데 양쪽 손가락과 발가락을 각각여섯개씩가진거인하나가있 었는데 그가 이스라엘을 모욕하므로 다윗의 형 시므아의 아들인 요나단이 그를 죽였다.
22 이렇게해서가드의그네거인들은모 두다윗과그부하들의손에죽고말 았다.

The Gibeonites Avenged
21 During the reign of David, there was a famine(A) for three successive years; so David sought(B) the face of the Lord. The Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”
2 The king summoned the Gibeonites(C) and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not a part of Israel but were survivors of the Amorites; the Israelites had sworn to spare them, but Saul in his zeal for Israel and Judah had tried to annihilate them.) 3 David asked the Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? How shall I make atonement so that you will bless the Lord’s inheritance?”(D)
4 The Gibeonites answered him, “We have no right to demand silver or gold from Saul or his family, nor do we have the right to put anyone in Israel to death.”(E)
“What do you want me to do for you?” David asked.
5 They answered the king, “As for the man who destroyed us and plotted against us so that we have been decimated and have no place anywhere in Israel, 6 let seven of his male descendants be given to us to be killed and their bodies exposed(F) before the Lord at Gibeah of Saul—the Lord’s chosen(G) one.”
So the king said, “I will give them to you.”
7 The king spared Mephibosheth(H) son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the oath(I) before the Lord between David and Jonathan son of Saul. 8 But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, the two sons of Aiah’s daughter Rizpah,(J) whom she had borne to Saul, together with the five sons of Saul’s daughter Merab,[a] whom she had borne to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathite.(K) 9 He handed them over to the Gibeonites, who killed them and exposed their bodies on a hill before the Lord. All seven of them fell together; they were put to death(L) during the first days of the harvest, just as the barley harvest was beginning.(M)
10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest till the rain poured down from the heavens on the bodies, she did not let the birds touch them by day or the wild animals by night.(N) 11 When David was told what Aiah’s daughter Rizpah, Saul’s concubine, had done, 12 he went and took the bones of Saul(O) and his son Jonathan from the citizens of Jabesh Gilead.(P) (They had stolen their bodies from the public square at Beth Shan,(Q) where the Philistines had hung(R) them after they struck Saul down on Gilboa.)(S) 13 David brought the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from there, and the bones of those who had been killed and exposed were gathered up.
14 They buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish, at Zela(T) in Benjamin, and did everything the king commanded. After that,(U) God answered prayer(V) in behalf of the land.(W)
Wars Against the Philistines(X)
15 Once again there was a battle between the Philistines(Y) and Israel. David went down with his men to fight against the Philistines, and he became exhausted. 16 And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead weighed three hundred shekels[b] and who was armed with a new sword, said he would kill David. 17 But Abishai(Z) son of Zeruiah came to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine down and killed him. Then David’s men swore to him, saying, “Never again will you go out with us to battle, so that the lamp(AA) of Israel will not be extinguished.(AB)”
18 In the course of time, there was another battle with the Philistines, at Gob. At that time Sibbekai(AC) the Hushathite killed Saph, one of the descendants of Rapha.
19 In another battle with the Philistines at Gob, Elhanan son of Jair[c] the Bethlehemite killed the brother of[d] Goliath the Gittite,(AD) who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod.(AE)
20 In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. 21 When he taunted(AF) Israel, Jonathan son of Shimeah,(AG) David’s brother, killed him.
22 These four were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men.

21 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.
2 And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)
3 Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the Lord?
4 And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.
5 And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,
6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, whom the Lord did choose. And the king said, I will give them.
7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the Lord's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:
9 And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the Lord: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.
10 And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.
11 And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
12 And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:
13 And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.
14 And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.
15 Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.
16 And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.
18 And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.
19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.
20 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
21 And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him.
22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to strike them down in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah. 3 And David said to the Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? And how shall I make atonement, that you may bless (C)the heritage of the Lord?” 4 The Gibeonites said to him, “It is not a matter of silver or gold between us and Saul or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” And he said, “What do you say that I shall do for you?” 5 They said to the king, “The man who consumed us and planned to destroy us, so that we should have no place in all the territory of Israel, 6 let seven of his sons be given to us, so that we may hang them before the Lord at (D)Gibeah of Saul, (E)the chosen of the Lord.” And the king said, “I will give them.”

War with the Philistines

18 (S)After this there was again war with the Philistines at Gob. 21 Y EN los días de David hubo hambre por tres años consecutivos. Y David consultó á Jehová, y Jehová le dijo: Es por Saúl, y por aquella casa de sangre; porque mató á los Gabaonitas.
2 Entonces el rey llamó á los Gabaonitas, y hablóles. (Los Gabaonitas no eran de los hijos de Israel, sino del residuo de los Amorrheos, á los cuales los hijos de Israel habían hecho juramento: mas Saúl había procurado matarlos con motivo de celo por los hijos de Israel y de Judá.)
3 Dijo pues David á los Gabaonitas: ¿Qué os haré, y con qué expiaré para que bendigáis á la heredad de Jehová?
4 Y los Gabaonitas le respondieron: No tenemos nosotros querella sobre plata ni sobre oro con Saúl, y con su casa: ni queremos que muera hombre de Israel. Y él les dijo: Lo que vosotros dijereis os haré.
5 Y ellos respondieron al rey: De aquel hombre que nos destruyó, y que maquinó contra nosotros, para extirparnos sin dejar nada de nosotros en todo el término de Israel;
6 Dénsenos siete varones de sus hijos, para que los ahorquemos á Jehová en Gabaa de Saúl, el escogido de Jehová. Y el rey dijo: Yo los daré.
7 Y perdonó el rey á Mephi-boseth, hijo de Jonathán, hijo de Saúl, por el juramento de Jehová que hubo entre ellos, entre David y Jonathán hijo de Saúl.
8 Mas tomó el rey dos hijos de Rispa hija de Aja, los cuales ella había parido á Saúl, á saber, á Armoni y á Mephi-boseth; y cinco hijos de Michâl hija de Saúl, los cuales ella había parido á Adriel, hijo de Barzillai Molathita;
9 Y entrególos en manos de los Gabaonitas, y ellos los ahorcaron en el monte delante de Jehová: y murieron juntos aquellos siete, lo cuales fueron muertos en el tiempo de la siega, en los primeros días, en el principio de la siega de las cebadas.
10 Tomando luego Rispa hija de Aja un saco, tendióselo sobre un peñasco, desde el principio de la siega hasta que llovió sobre ellos agua del cielo; y no dejó á ninguna ave del cielo asentarse sobre ellos de día, ni bestias del campo de noche.
11 Y fué dicho á David lo que hacía Rispa hija de Aja, concubina de Saúl.

13 E hizo llevar de allí los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de Jonathán su hijo; y juntaron también los huesos de los ahorcados.
14 Y sepultaron los huesos de Saúl y los de su hijo Jonathán en tierra de Benjamín, en Sela, en el sepulcro de Cis su padre; é hicieron todo lo que el rey había mandado. Después se aplacó Dios con la tierra.
15 Y como los Filisteos tornaron á hacer guerra á Israel, descendió David y sus siervos con él, y pelearon con los Filisteos: y David se cansó.
16 En esto Isbi-benob, el cual era de los hijos del gigante, y el peso de cuya lanza era de trescientos siclos de metal, y tenía él ceñida una nueva espada, trató de herir á David:
17 Mas Abisai hijo de Sarvia le socorrió, é hirió al Filisteo, y matólo. Entonces los hombres de David le juraron, diciendo: Nunca más de aquí adelante saldrás con nosotros á batalla, porque no apagues la lámpara de Israel.
18 Otra segunda guerra hubo después en Gob contra los Filisteos: entonces Sibechâi Husathita hirió á Saph, que era de los hijos del gigante.
19 Otra guerra hubo en Gob contra los Filisteos, en la cual Elhanan, hijo de Jaare-oregim de Beth-lehem, hirió á Goliath Getheo, el asta de cuya lanza era como un enjullo de telar.
20 Después hubo otra guerra en Gath, donde hubo un hombre de grande altura, el cual tenía doce dedos en las manos, y otros doce en los pies, veinticuatro en todos: y también era de lo hijos del gigante.
21 Este desafió á Israel, y matólo Jonathán, hijo de Sima hermano de David.
22 Estos cuatro le habían nacido al gigante en Gath, los cuales cayeron por la mano de David, y por la mano de sus siervos.
