세바의 반역
20 마침그곳길갈에베냐민사람 비그리의 아들인 세바라고 하는 못된 녀석이 있었다. 그가 나팔을 불며 이렇게 외쳤다. “우리는 이새의 아들과 아무 상관이 없다. 자, 이스라엘 사람들 아, 집으로 돌아가자! 다윗은 우리의 왕 이아니다!”
2 그래서 모든 이스라엘 사람들은 다윗 을떠나세바를좇았다. 그러나유다 사람들은왕을떠나지않고요단에서 부터 예루살렘까지 줄곧 그와 동행하 였다.
3 다윗은 예루살렘 궁전에 도착하자 궁 을지키기위해남겨두었 10명의 후궁들을잡아다가별실에가두어넣 고 그들의 필수품만 공급해 주고 그들 과 잠자리를 같이하지 않았다. 그래서 그들은 죽는 날까지 갇혀서 생과부로 지냈다.
4 그리고 왕은 아마사에게 3일 이내로 유다 사람을 소집하고 돌아와서 보고 하라고 지시하였다.
5 그래서 아마사는 유다 사람을 소집하 러나갔으나왕이정한기한내에돌 아오지 않았다.
6 그러자 왕이 아비새에게 말하였다. “세바는압살롬보다우리에게더위험 한 존재이다. 너는 궁중 경호병들을 데리고 빨리 가서 그를 추적하여라. 그렇지않으면우리가미칠수없는 요새성으로그가들어가고말것이 다.”
7 그래서 아비새와 요압은 궁중 경호병 들과 용감한 군인들을 이끌고 세바를 찾으러 나섰다.
8 그들이기브온에있는큰바위에이르 렀을 때 우연히 아마사와 마주치게 되 었다. 그때군복을입고칼을차고있 던요압은아마사에게다가서면서몰 래칼집을풀어놓았다.
9 요압은 “동생, 잘 있었나?” 하며 마치 입을 맞추려는 듯이 오른손으로 그의 수염을 잡았으나
10 아마사는요압의왼쪽손에칼이있는 것을알지못하였다. 요압이칼로그 의 배를 찌르자 창자가 땅으로 쏟아져 나와 다시 칠 필요도 없이 아마사는 즉시 죽고 말았다.
11 그러자요압의부하중한사람이아마 사의 시체 곁에 서서 “요압과 다윗왕 을 지지하는 사람은 모두 요압을 따르 라!” 하고 외쳤다.
12 아마사의 시체는 피투성이가 된 채 길 가운데 그대로 있었는데 요압의 부하 들은 사람들이 구경하러 모여드는 것 을보고그시체를밭으로끌어다가 옷으로 덮어 두었다.
13 길에서시체를치운다음그들은모두 요압을 따라 다시 세바의 추적에 나섰 다.
14 한편세바가이스라엘전지역을돌아 다니다가 아벨-벧-마아가에 이르자 비그리 집안의 모든 사람들이 모여서 그를따라성으로들어갔다.
15 요압의부하들은세바가그곳에있다 는말을듣고그리로가서성을완전 히 포위하고 성벽을 헐기 위해 성벽 밑으로 흙을 파서 성을 향해 토성을 쌓기 시작하였다.
16 이때그성의어떤지혜로운여자가할 말이 있다고 요압을 불러 달라고 외쳤 다.
17 요압이가까이갔을때그여자가물었 다. “당신이 요압 장군이세요?” “그렇 소.” “내말좀들어보세요.” “어디한 번 말해 보시오.”
18 “옛날부터 사람들은 ‘해결할 문제가 있거든아벨에가서물어보라’ 하고 그 문제를 해결하였습니다.
19 그런데 당신은 이스라엘에 충성을 다 해온평화롭고전통있는이성을지 금 파괴하려고 합니다. 당신은 여호와 의 소유를 삼켜 버릴 작정입니까?”
20 “절대로 그렇지 않소. 내가 당신들의 성을 파괴할 생각은 없소.
21 에브라임 산간 지대 사람 비그리의 아 들 세바가 다윗왕을 대적하였소. 만일 당신들이 그 사람만 나에게 넘겨 준다 면우리는아무말없이돌아갈것이 오.” “좋습니다. 우리가 그의 머리를 성 밖으로 던져 주겠습니다.”
22 그러고서 그 여자가 성 주민들에게 가 서 지혜로운 말로 이야기하자 그들은 세바의 머리를 잘라 성 밖으로 요압에 게던져주었다. 그래서요압은나팔 을 불어 자기 부하들을 성에서 물러나 게하였다. 그후에병사들은자기들 의 집으로 돌아가고 요압은 예루살렘 에 있는 왕에게 돌아갔다.
23 이때 요압은 이스라엘군의 총사령관 이 되었고 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 왕의 경호대장,
24 아도니람은 사역군의 총감독관, 아힐 룻의 아들 여호사밧은 역사관,
25 스와는 서기관, 사독과 아비아달은 제 사장,
26 그리고 야일 사람 이라는 다윗의 보좌 관이 되었다.

세바가 반란을 일으키다
20 마침 그 자리에 베냐민 사람 비그리의 아들인 세바라는 건달이 있었다. 그는 나팔을 불어 사람을 모으고 이렇게 외쳤다.
“우리가 다윗에게 얻을 몫은 아무 것도 없다.
이새의 아들에게 얻을 유산은 아무 것도 없다.
오, 이스라엘아. 모두 집으로 돌아가자!”
2 그러자 온 이스라엘 사람[a]이 다윗을 떠나 비그리의 아들 세바를 따랐다. 그러나 유다 사람들은 요단 강에서 예루살렘까지 줄곧 자기들의 왕의 곁을 지켰다.
3 다윗은 예루살렘의 왕궁으로 돌아왔다. 그는 왕궁을 지키라고 남겨 두었던 열 명의 후궁들을 잡아다 가두고 집 둘레에 감시병을 두어 지키게 하였다. 다윗은 그들에게 먹을 것은 대주었으나 그들과 잠자리를 같이하지는 않았다. 그들은 홀어미들처럼 지내며 죽을 때까지 갇혀 살았다.
4 왕이 아마사에게 말하였다. “그대는 유다 사람들을 사흘 안에 모아 내게로 데려 오고 그대도 함께 오시오.”
5 아마사가 유다 사람들을 불러 모으러 갔으나 왕이 그에게 정하여 준 기간을 넘겼다.
다윗이 아비새에게 세바를 죽일 것을 명령하다
6 다윗이 아비새에게 말하였다. “비그리의 아들 세바가 압살롬보다 우리에게 더 큰 해악을 끼칠 것 같소. 그러니 장군은 나의 부하들을 이끌고 서둘러 세바를 뒤쫓으시오. 그가 성벽으로 둘러싸인 성읍을 찾아 그리로 들어가 버리면 우리는 그를 놓치고 말 것이오.”
7 그리하여 요압의 부하들과 그렛 외인부대와 블렛 외인부대와 모든 용사들이 아비새의 지휘 아래 떠났다. 그들은 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓으려고 예루살렘에서 진군하였다.
요압이 아마사를 죽이다
8 그들이 기브아에 있는 큰 바위에 이르렀을 때 아마사가 그들을 맞으러 왔다. 그들과 함께 온 요압은 군복을 입고 허리에 띠를 띠고 있었는데 그 띠에 칼이 들어 있는 칼집을 차고 있었다. 요압이 앞으로 한 걸음 내딛는데 그의 칼집에서 칼이 떨어졌다. 9 요압이 아마사가에게 “형제여, 안녕하시오?” 하고 인사하며 오른손으로 아마사의 턱수염을 잡고 입을 맞추었다.
10 그러나 아마사는 요압의 왼손에 들린 칼을 경계하지 않았다. 요압이 그 칼로 아마사의 배를 찌르자 창자가 땅바닥에 쏟아졌다. 두 번 찌를 필요도 없이 아마사는 그 자리에서 죽고 말았다.
다윗의 부하들이 세바를 계속 뒤쫓다
그러고 나서 요압과 그의 아우 아비새는 비그리의 아들 세바를 다시 뒤쫓기 시작하였다. 11 요압의 젊은 부하 한 사람이 아마사의 주검 옆에 서서 “요압과 다윗을 지지하는 사람은 모두 요압을 따르라.” 하고 외쳤다.
12 아마사의 주검이 피투성이가 된 채 길 한가운데 놓여 있었다. 그 젊은 부하는 군인들이 아마사의 주검을 구경하려고 멈춰 서는 것을 보고, 그 주검을 길에서 끌어다 들판으로 옮겨놓고 옷으로 덮었다. 13 아마사의 주검이 길에서 옮겨진 다음 군인들은 모두 요압을 따라 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓았다.
세바가 아벨 벳마아가로 달아나다
14 세바는 온 이스라엘 가문을 두루 거쳐 아벨벳마아가에 이르렀다. 그러자 비그리 집안사람들이 합세하여 세바를 따라 성 안으로 들어갔다. 15 요압이 거느린 군대가 세바가 들어 있는 아벨벳마아가에 이르러 성을 에워쌌다. 그들은 성에 닿을 정도로 바깥 성벽에 잇대어 비스듬히 둔덕을 쌓아 올린 다음, 성벽을 무너뜨리려고 성벽을 때려 부수기 시작하였다.
16 그때 지혜로운 여인 하나가 성에서 소리쳤다. “내 말 좀 들어보세요. 요압 장군님께 드릴 말씀이 있으니 장군님 좀 불러 주세요.”
17 요압이 여인 쪽으로 가니 여인이 “요압 장군님이세요?” 하고 물었다.
요압이 대답하였다. “그렇소.”
여인이 “제 말 좀 들어 보세요” 하고 말하였다.
요압이 말하였다. “듣고 있소.”
18 여인이 말하였다. “예로부터 ‘아벨에 가서 물어 보라.’는 말도 있지 않습니까? 그러면 문제가 해결되곤 하였습니다. 19 우리는 이스라엘에서 평화롭고 신실한 사람들입니다. 그런데도 장군께서는 이스라엘에서 어머니와 같은 이 성을 무너뜨리려 하십니다. 어찌하여 주의 유산을 파괴하려 하십니까?”
20 요압이 대답하였다. “결코 그렇지 않소. 나는 결코 이 성을 무너뜨리거나 파괴할 마음이 없소. 21 결코 그런 것이 아니오. 에브라임 산간지방 출신으로 비그리의 아들 세바라는 자가 다윗 임금님에게 대적하여 반란을 일으켰기 때문이오. 그 자만 내주면 나는 이 성에서 물러갈 것이오.”
여인이 요압에게 말하였다. “그 자의 머리를 성 밖으로 던지겠습니다.”
22 그런 다음 여인이 사람들에게 가서 지혜로운 말로 그들을 설득하자 그들이 비그리의 아들 세바의 머리를 잘라서 요압에게 던져 주었다.
요압이 나팔을 부니 그의 부하들이 그 성을 떠나서 각자 집으로 돌아갔다. 요압도 예루살렘에 있는 왕에게 돌아갔다.
다윗의 신하들
23 요압은 이스라엘 전군의 사령관이었고, 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 그렛 외인부대와 블렛 외인부대를 이끌었다. 24 아도니람은 부역 감독관이었고 아힐룻의 아들 여호사밧은 국무장관[b]이었다. 25 스와는 서기관이었고 사독과 아비아달은 제사장이었다. 26 야일 사람 이라는 다윗의 제사장이었다.

Sabá se rebela contra David
20 Por allí se encontraba un malvado que se llamaba Sabá hijo de Bicrí, que era benjaminita. Dando un toque de trompeta, se puso a gritar:
«¡Pueblo de Israel, todos a vuestras casas,
pues no tenemos parte con David,
ni herencia con el hijo de Isaí!»
2 Entonces todos los israelitas abandonaron a David y siguieron a Sabá hijo de Bicrí. Los de Judá, por su parte, se mantuvieron fieles a su rey y lo acompañaron desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén. 3 Cuando el rey David llegó a su palacio en Jerusalén, sacó a las diez concubinas que había dejado a cargo del palacio y las puso bajo vigilancia. Siguió manteniéndolas, pero no volvió a acostarse con ellas. Hasta el día de su muerte, quedaron encerradas y viviendo como si fueran viudas.
4 Luego el rey le ordenó a Amasá: «Moviliza a las tropas de Judá, y preséntate aquí con ellas dentro de tres días». 5 Amasá salió para movilizar a las tropas, pero no cumplió con el plazo. 6 Por eso David le dijo a Abisay: «Ahora Sabá hijo de Bicrí va a perjudicarnos más que Absalón. Así que hazte cargo de la guardia real, y sal a perseguirlo, no sea que llegue a alguna ciudad fortificada y se nos escape».[a] 7 Entonces los soldados de Joab, junto con los quereteos, los peleteos y todos los oficiales, bajo el mando de Abisay salieron de Jerusalén para perseguir a Sabá hijo de Bicrí.
8 Al llegar a la gran roca que está en Gabaón, Amasá les salió al encuentro. Joab tenía su uniforme ajustado con un cinturón, y ceñida al muslo llevaba una daga envainada. Pero, al caminar, la daga se le cayó. 9 Con la mano derecha, Joab tomó a Amasá por la barba para besarlo, mientras le preguntaba: «¿Cómo estás, hermano?» 10 Amasá no se percató de que en la otra mano Joab llevaba la daga, así que Joab se la clavó en el vientre, y las entrañas de Amasá se derramaron por el suelo. Amasá murió de una sola puñalada, y luego Joab y su hermano Abisay persiguieron a Sabá hijo de Bicrí.
11 Uno de los soldados de Joab, deteniéndose junto al cuerpo de Amasá, exclamó: «¡Todos los que estén a favor de Joab y que apoyen a David, sigan a Joab!» 12 Como el cuerpo de Amasá, bañado en sangre, había quedado en medio del camino, todas las tropas que pasaban se detenían para verlo. Cuando aquel soldado se dio cuenta de esto, retiró el cuerpo hacia el campo y lo cubrió con un manto. 13 Después de que Amasá fue apartado del camino, todas las tropas fueron con Joab a perseguir a Sabá hijo de Bicrí.
14 Sabá recorrió todas las tribus de Israel, hasta llegar a Abel Betmacá, y allí todos los del clan de Bicrí[b] se le unieron. 15 Las tropas de Joab llegaron a la ciudad de Abel Betmacá y la sitiaron. Construyeron una rampa contra la fortificación para atacar la ciudad y, cuando los soldados comenzaban a derribar la muralla, 16 una astuta mujer de la ciudad les gritó:
―¡Escuchadme! ¡Escuchadme! Decidle a Joab que venga acá para que yo pueda hablar con él.
17 Joab se le acercó.
―¿Eres tú Joab? —le preguntó la mujer.
―Así es.
Entonces la mujer le dijo:
―Pon atención a las palabras de esta tu sierva.
―Te escucho —respondió Joab.
18 Ella continuó:
―Antiguamente, cuando había alguna discusión, la gente resolvía el asunto con este dicho: “Id y preguntad en Abel”. 19 Nuestra ciudad es la más pacífica y fiel del país, y muy importante en Israel; tú, sin embargo, intentas arrasarla. ¿Por qué quieres destruir la heredad del Señor?
20 ―¡Que Dios me libre! —replicó Joab—. ¡Que Dios me libre de arrasarla y destruirla! 21 Yo no he venido a eso, sino a capturar a un hombre llamado Sabá hijo de Bicrí. Es de la sierra de Efraín y se ha sublevado contra el rey David. Si me entregáis a ese hombre, me retiro de la ciudad.
―Muy bien —respondió la mujer—. Desde la muralla arrojaremos su cabeza.
22 Y fue tal la astucia con que la mujer habló con todo el pueblo que le cortaron la cabeza a Sabá hijo de Bicrí y se la arrojaron a Joab. Entonces Joab hizo tocar la trompeta, y todos los soldados se retiraron de la ciudad y regresaron a sus casas. Joab, por su parte, volvió a Jerusalén para ver al rey.
23 Joab era general en jefe del ejército de Israel; Benaías hijo de Joyadá estaba al mando de los quereteos y los peleteos; 24 Adonirán supervisaba el trabajo forzado; Josafat hijo de Ajilud era el secretario; 25 Seva era el cronista; Sadoc y Abiatar eran los sacerdotes; 26 Ira el yairita era sacerdote personal de David.

20 There happened to be there a scoundrel whose name was Sheva the son of Bikhri, a Binyamini. He sounded the shofar and said, “We have no share in David, no inheritance in the son of Yishai; so, Isra’el, every man to his tent!” 2 All the men of Isra’el left off following David and went after Sheva the son of Bikhri. But the men of Y’hudah stuck with their king, from the Yarden to Yerushalayim.
3 When David arrived at his palace in Yerushalayim, the king took the ten women who were his concubines, whom he had left to care for the palace, and put them under guard. He provided for their needs but never slept with them again. They were kept in confinement until the day of their death, living like widows with their husband still alive.
4 The king said to ‘Amasa, “Summon the men of Y’hudah to come to me within three days; and you, be here too.” 5 ‘Amasa went to summon the men of Y’hudah but took longer than the time he had been given. 6 David said to Avishai, “Sheva the son of Bikhri is going to do us more harm than Avshalom. Take your lord’s servants and pursue him, so that he won’t take over fortified cities and escape us.” 7 With him went Yo’av’s men, the K’reti, the P’leti and all the experienced soldiers; they left Yerushalayim in pursuit of Sheva the son of Bikhri.
8 On arrival at the big rock in Giv‘on, ‘Amasa came to meet them. Yo’av was wearing his battle clothes, over which he had girded a belt with a sheathed sword; but as he came forward it fell out. 9 Yo’av said to ‘Amasa, “Is it going well with you, my brother? Then, with his right hand, Yo’av took ‘Amasa by the beard to kiss him. 10 ‘Amasa took no notice of the sword in Yo’av’s hand, so Yo’av stabbed him in the groin. His insides poured out on the ground, and he died without being stabbed a second time.
Yo’av and Avishai his brother continued in pursuit of Sheva the son of Bikhri. 11 One of Yo’av’s young men standing by Yo’av said, “Whoever is on Yo’av’s side, whoever is for David — let him follow Yo’av.” 12 ‘Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the road; so that as the troops came up, they all halted there. When the man saw that all the people were standing still, he dragged ‘Amasa off the road into the field and threw a cloak over him. 13 Once he had been removed from the road, all the troops went on after Yo’av, to pursue Sheva the son of Bikhri.
14 Sheva went through all the tribes of Isra’el, to Avel and Beit-Ma‘akhah, and to all the Berim; they assembled and followed him. 15 Yo’av’s troops came and put him under siege in Avel of Beit-Ma‘akhah — they put up a ramp in the moat against the city wall; and all the people with Yo’av battered the wall in order to bring it down. 16 Then a wise woman in the city shouted, “Listen! Listen! Please tell Yo’av, ‘Come over here, so that I can speak with you.’” 17 He approached her, and the woman asked, “Are you Yo’av?” He answered, “I am.” She said to him, “Listen to what your servant has to say.” He answered, “I’m listening.” 18 Then she said, “In the old days they used to say, ‘They will ask advice at Avel’; and that would end the discussion. 19 We are among those in Isra’el who are peaceful and faithful. Why are you destroying a city and a mother in Isra’el? Why swallow up the inheritance of Adonai?” 20 Yo’av answered, “Heaven forbid! Heaven forbid that I should swallow or destroy anything! 21 That’s not how it is. Rather, a man from the hills of Efrayim, Sheva the son of Bikhri, has raised his hand against the king, against David. Just turn him over to me, and I will leave the city.” The woman said to Yo’av, “All right, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.” 22 Then the woman went to all the people with her wise plan. They cut off the head of Sheva the son of Bikhri and threw it out to Yo’av. So he sounded the shofar, and they left the city, sending each man to his tent; while Yo’av returned to the king in Yerushalayim.
23 Once again Yo’av was commander over the whole army of Isra’el, while B’nayah the son of Y’hoyada was over the K’reti and P’leti, 24 Adoram was in charge of forced labor, Y’hoshafat the son of Achilud was secretary of state, 25 Sh’va was recorder, Tzadok and Evyatar were cohanim, 26 and ‘Ira the Ya’iri was David’s cohen.
