누가가 또 다른 책을 쓰다
1 존경하는 데오빌로님, 나는 첫번째 책에서 예수께서 행하고 가르치신 모든 것을 다 썼습니다. 2 곧 예수께서 처음부터 하늘로 들려 올라가신 그날까지 행하고 가르치신 것을 모두 적었던 것입니다. 예수께서는 하늘로 들려 올라가시기 전에 성령의 도우심을 받아, 당신이 뽑으신 사도들에게 여러 가지 할 일을 일러 주셨습니다. 3 예수께서는 돌아가신 뒤에 다시 살아나셔서, 사십 일 동안 사도들에게 여러 번 나타나셨습니다. 그리고 그 동안에 자신이 여전히 살아 계시다는 것을 여러 가지 방법으로 증명해 보이시며, 하나님 나라에 관한 말씀도 들려주셨습니다. 4 어느 날 예수께서 사도들과 음식을 드시다가 이렇게 말씀하셨습니다. “너희는 예루살렘을 떠나지 말고, 아버지께서 약속하신 것을 주실 때까지 기다려라. 나는 그 약속에 관해 전에 너희에게 말해 준 적이 있다. 5 세례자 요한[a]은 사람들에게 물로 세례를 주었지만, 너희는 머지않아 성령으로 세례를 받을 것이다.”
예수, 하늘로 들려 올라가시다
6 사도들은 모두 모인 자리에서 예수께 여쭈었다. “주님, 주께서 이스라엘에게 나라를 되돌려 주실 때가 지금입니까?”
7 예수께서 사도들에게 말씀하셨다. “그날과 시간은, 아버지께서 아버지의 권한으로 정하실 일이니 너희 알 바가 아니다. 8 그러나 성령께서 너희에게 오시면, 너희는 능력을 받고, 나에 관한 이야기를 전하는 증인들이 될 것이다. 너희는 예루살렘과 온 유대와 사마리아와 이 세상 끝까지 가서 나에 관한 이야기를 전할 것이다.”
9 예수께서 사도들에게 이렇게 말씀하시고, 사도들이 바라보는 가운데 하늘로 들려 올라가셨다. 예수께서는 구름에 싸여 보이지 않게 되었다. 10 사도들이 예수께서 가시는 하늘을 열심히 바라보고 있는데, 느닷없이 흰 옷을 입은 두 사람이 사도들 곁에 서 있었다. 11 그들이 사도들에게 말하였다. “갈릴리 사람들아, 어찌하여 여기 서서 하늘을 올려다보고 있느냐? 너희를 떠나 하늘로 들려 올라가신 예수께서는 너희가 본 그대로 다시 오실 것이다.”
새 사도를 뽑다
12 사도들은 올리브 산이라 하는 산에서 예루살렘으로 돌아왔다. (올리브 산은 예루살렘에서 1킬로미터[b]쯤 떨어진 곳에 있다.) 13 사도들은 예루살렘으로 들어가서, 자기들이 머물고 있던 이층 방으로 갔다. 거기 모인 사도들은 베드로와 요한과 야고보와 안드레와 빌립과 도마와 바돌로매와 마태와 알패오의 아들 야고보와 열심쟁이[c] 시몬과 야고보의 아들 유다였다.
14 사도들은 모두 한 자리에 모여 한 마음으로 끊임없이 기도하였다. 몇몇 여자들과 예수의 어머니 마리아와 예수의 형제들이 사도들과 함께 있었다.
15 며칠 뒤에 믿는 이들의 모임이 있어서 일백이십 명쯤이 모였다. 그 자리에서 베드로가 일어나 말하였다. 16-17 “형제자매 여러분, 유다는 본래 우리 열두 사람 가운데 하나로, 이 일을 우리와 함께 하던 사람이었습니다. 그러나 그는 주님을 잡으러 온 사람들의 앞잡이가 되었습니다. 성령께서 다윗을 통하여 유다에게 일어날 일을 미리 말씀하신 성경[d] 말씀이 그대로 이루어져야 했기 때문입니다.”
18 (유다는 그런 악한 일을 하고 받은 돈으로 밭을 샀다. 그러나 유다는 거꾸러져 배가 터지면서 창자가 다 쏟아져 나왔다. 19 예루살렘에 사는 모든 사람이 그 일을 알게 되었다. 그래서 사람들은 그 밭을 아겔다마라고 불렀다. 아겔다마는 그 사람들의 말로 ‘피의 밭’ 이라는 뜻이다.[e])
20 베드로가 계속 말하였다. “시편에 보면 유다에 관하여 이렇게 쓰여 있습니다.
‘사람들이 그의 땅에
가까이 가지 않게 하시고
아무도 그곳에 살지 않게 하십시오!’(A)
그리고 이런 말도 있습니다.
‘그의 자리를 다른 사람이 차지하게 해 주십시오.’(B)
21-22 그러니 이제 새로운 사람이 우리와 함께 예수의 부활을 증언하는 사람이 되어야 합니다. 그 사람은 주 예수께서 우리와 함께 계시는 동안에, 처음부터 끝까지 우리와 같이 다니던 사람이어야 합니다. 요한[f]이 사람들에게 세례를 주던 때부터 예수께서 우리를 떠나 하늘로 들려 올라가신 날까지 언제나 우리와 함께 있었던 사람이어야 합니다.”
23 그들은 두 사람을 후보로 내세웠다. 한 사람은 유스도라고 하는 바사바였고, 또 한 사람은 맛디아였다. 24-25 그러고 나서 그들은 이렇게 기도하였다. “주님, 주께서는 모든 사람의 마음을 아십니다. 이 두 사람 가운데 누구를 뽑아서 이 일을 시키려고 하시는지 저희에게 보여 주십시오. 유다는 이 일을 버리고 제 갈 길로 갔습니다. 주님, 어느 사람을 사도로 뽑아 유다의 자리를 맡기려고 하시는지 저희에게 보여 주십시오!” 26 그러고 나서 그들은 제비를 뽑았다. 제비를 뽑아 보니 맛디아가 뽑혀서 다른 열한 사도와 함께 사도가 되었다.

Jesus Taken Up Into Heaven
1 In my former book,(A) Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach(B) 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven,(C) after giving instructions(D) through the Holy Spirit to the apostles(E) he had chosen.(F) 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them(G) over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.(H) 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait(I) for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.(J) 5 For John baptized with[a] water,(K) but in a few days you will be baptized with[b] the Holy Spirit.”(L)
6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore(M) the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.(N) 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;(O) and you will be my witnesses(P) in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,(Q) and to the ends of the earth.”(R)
9 After he said this, he was taken up(S) before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white(T) stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,”(U) they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back(V) in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem(W) from the hill called the Mount of Olives,(X) a Sabbath day’s walk[c] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room(Y) where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James.(Z) 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer,(AA) along with the women(AB) and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.(AC)
15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers and sisters,[d](AD) the Scripture had to be fulfilled(AE) in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas,(AF) who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 He was one of our number(AG) and shared in our ministry.”(AH)
18 (With the payment(AI) he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field;(AJ) there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language(AK) Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)
20 “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:
and,
21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism(AN) to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness(AO) with us of his resurrection.”
23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed,(AP) “Lord, you know everyone’s heart.(AQ) Show us(AR) which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.(AS)

The Promise of the Holy Spirit
1 In the first book, O (A)Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began (B)to do and teach, 2 until the day when (C)he was taken up, after he (D)had given commands (E)through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. 3 (F)He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
4 And while staying[a] with them (G)he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for (H)John baptized with water, (I)but you will be baptized (J)with[b] the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
The Ascension
6 So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, (K)will you at this time (L)restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them, (M)“It is not for you to know (N)times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive (O)power (P)when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and (Q)you will be (R)my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and (S)Samaria, and (T)to the end of the earth.” 9 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, (U)he was lifted up, and (V)a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, (W)two (X)men stood by them in (Y)white robes, 11 and said, (Z)“Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, (AA)will (AB)come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

12 Then (AC)they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. 13 And when they had entered, they went up to (AD)the upper room, where they were staying, (AE)Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon (AF)the Zealot and Judas the son of James. 14 All these (AG)with one accord (AH)were devoting themselves to prayer, together with (AI)the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and (AJ)his brothers.[c]
15 In those days Peter stood up among (AK)the brothers (the company of persons was in all about 120) and said, 16 “Brothers, (AL)the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, (AM)who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. 17 For (AN)he was numbered among us and was allotted his share in (AO)this ministry.” 18 (Now this man (AP)acquired a field with (AQ)the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong[d] he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the field was called (AR)in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms,

and let there be no one to dwell in it’;
