5 예수님은 많은 사람들이 모여드는 것을 보시고 산에 올라가 앉으셨다. 그러자 제자들이 그분에게 나아왔다.
2 그래서 예수님은 그들에게 이렇게 가르치셨다.
3 “마음이 가난한 사람들은 행복하다. 하늘 나라가 그들의 것이다.
4 슬퍼하는 사람들은 행복하다. 그들은 위로를 받을 것이다.
5 유순한 사람들은 행복하다. 그들은 땅을 물려받을 것이다.
6 의를 위해 굶주리고 목마른 사람들은 행복하다. 그들은 [a]원하는 것을 다 얻을 것이다.
7 남을 불쌍히 여기는 사람들은 행복하다. 하나님도 그들을 불쌍히 여기실 것이다.
8 마음이 깨끗한 사람들은 행복하다. 그들은 하나님을 볼 것이다.
9 화평을 이루는 사람들은 행복하다. 그들은 하나님의 아들이라 불릴 것이다.
10 의를 위해 핍박을 받는 사람들은 행복하다. 하늘 나라가 그들의 것이다.
11 “나 때문에 사람들이 너희를 욕하고 핍박하고 거짓말로 온갖 악담을 할 때에 너희는 행복하다.
12 하늘에서 큰 상이 너희를 기다리고 있다. 기뻐하고 즐거워하여라. 이전의 예언자들도 이런 핍박을 받았다.
13 “너희는 세상의 소금이다. 그런데 소금이 그 맛을 잃으면 어떻게 다시 짜게 할 수 있겠느냐? 그런 것은 아무 쓸모가 없어 밖에 버려져 사람들에게 짓밟힐 뿐이다.
14 너희는 세상의 빛이다. 산 위에 있는 마을은 잘 보이기 마련이다.
15 등불을 켜서 그릇으로 덮어 둘 사람은 아무도 없다. 오히려 그것을 등잔대 위에 올려놓아 집 안에 있는 모든 사람에게 비치게 하지 않겠느냐?
16 이와 같이 너희 빛을 사람들 앞에 비추게 하라. 그래서 사람들이 너희 착한 행실을 보고 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지를 찬양하게 하라.
17 “내가 율법이나 예언자들을 없애러 왔다고 생각하지 말아라. 없애러 온 것이 아니라 완전하게 하러 왔다.
18 내가 분명히 말해 둔다. 하늘과 땅이 없어지기 전에는 율법의 [b]한 점이나 한 획도 결코 없어지지 않고 다 이루어질 것이다.
19 누구든지 이 계명 가운데 가장 작은 것 하나라도 어기거나 다른 사람에게 그렇게 하라고 가르치면 하늘 나라에서 가장 작은 사람이 될 것이다. 그러나 누구든지 계명을 실천하고 가르치면 하늘 나라에서 위대한 사람이 될 것이다.
20 내가 너희에게 말해 두지만 너희 생활이 율법학자들과 바리새파 사람들보다 의롭지 못하면 너희가 절대로 하늘 나라에 들어가지 못할 것이다.
21 “[c]모세의 법에는 [d]‘살인하지 말아라. 살인하면 누구든지 재판을 받게 된다’ 라고 쓰여 있다.
22 그러나 나는 너희에게 말한다. 누구든지 형제에게 이유 없이 화내는 사람은 재판을 받고, 자기 형제를 [e]어리석다고 욕하는 사람은 [f]법정에 끌려가게 될 것이며, ‘이 미련한 놈아!’ 하고 말하는 사람은 [g]지옥 불에 들어갈 것이다.
23 그러므로 제단에 예물을 드리다가 형제에게 원망 들을 만한 일이 생각나거든
24 예물을 제단 앞에 두고 먼저 가서 네 형제와 화해하라. 그리고 와서 예물을 드려라.
25 너를 고소하려는 사람과 함께 법정으로 갈 때 너는 도중에 그와 재빨리 타협하라. 그렇지 않고 재판을 받는 날이면 유치장 신세를 져야 할 것이다.
26 그렇게 되면 네가 [h]마지막 한푼까지 다 갚기 전에는 절대로 거기서 나오지 못할 것이다.
27 “또 율법에는 [i]‘간음하지 말아라’ 고 쓰여 있다.
28 그러나 나는 너희에게 말한다. 누구든지 정욕의 눈으로 여자를 바라보는 사람은 이미 마음으로 그녀와 간음하였다.
29 오른눈이 너를 죄 짓게 하거든 빼어 버려라. 몸의 한 부분을 잃을지라도 온 몸이 지옥에 던져지지 않는 것이 더 낫다.
30 또 오른손이 너를 죄 짓게 하면 그 손을 잘라 버려라. 몸의 한 부분을 잃을지라도 온 몸이 지옥에 떨어지지 않는 것이 더 낫다.
31 “또 율법에 [j]‘자기 아내와 이혼하는 사람은 누구든지 그녀에게 이혼 증서를 써 주어야 한다’ 라고 쓰여 있다.
32 그러나 나는 너희에게 말한다. 누구든지 음행한 일도 없는데 자기 아내와 이혼하는 사람은 아내로 간음하게 하는 자이며 이혼한 여자와 결혼하는 사람도 간음하는 자이다.
33 “또 옛 사람들에게 ‘거짓 맹세를 하지 말고 주님께 맹세한 것은 다 지켜라’ 고 한 말을 들어서 알 것이다.
34 그러나 나는 너희에게 말한다. 절대로 맹세하지 말아라. 하늘을 두고도 맹세하지 말아라. 하늘은 하나님의 보좌이다.
35 땅을 두고도 맹세하지 말아라. 땅은 하나님의 발판이다. 예루살렘을 두고도 맹세하지 말아라. 예루살렘은 위대한 왕의 도시이다.
36 네 머리를 두고도 맹세하지 말아라. 너는 머리카락 하나도 희거나 검게 할 수가 없다.
37 너희는 그저 ‘예’ 할 것은 ‘예’ 하고 ‘아니오’ 할 것은 ‘아니오’ 라고만 말하여라. 그 이상의 말은 악에서 나오는 것이다.
38 “또 [k]‘눈은 눈으로, 이는 이로 갚아라’ 한 말을 듣지 않았느냐?
39 그러나 나는 너희에게 말한다. 악한 사람을 대적하지 말아라. 누가 네 오른뺨을 때리거든 왼뺨도 돌려 대어라.
40 너를 고소하여 속옷을 빼앗고자 하는 사람에게는 겉옷까지 주어라.
41 누가 네게 억지로 오 리를 가자 하거든 십 리를 가 주어라.
42 네게 요구하는 사람에게 주고 꾸어 달라는 사람에게 거절하지 말아라.
43 “[l]‘네 이웃을 사랑하고 원수를 미워하여라’ 는 말씀을 듣지 않았느냐?
44 그러나 나는 너희에게 말한다. 원수를 사랑하고 너희를 핍박하는 사람들을 위해 기도하라.
45 그렇게 하는 것이 하나님 아버지의 자녀 된 도리이다. 하나님은 해가 악한 사람과 선한 사람에게 다 같이 비치게 하시고 의로운 사람과 의롭지 못한 사람에게 비를 똑같이 내려 주신다.
46 너희를 사랑하는 사람들만 사랑한다면 너희가 무슨 상을 받겠느냐? 세무원들도 그만큼은 하지 않느냐?
47 또 너희가 너희 형제들에게만 인사한다면 남보다 나을 것이 무엇이겠느냐? [m]믿지 않는 사람들도 그렇게 하지 않느냐?
48 그러므로 하늘에 계신 너희 아버지께서 완전하심과 같이 너희도 완전하여라.”

The Sermon on the Mount
5 Seeing the crowds, (A)he went up on the mountain, and when he (B)sat down, his disciples came to him.
The Beatitudes
2 And (C)he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 (D)“Blessed are (E)the poor in spirit, for (F)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are (G)those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5 “Blessed are the (H)meek, for they (I)shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and (J)thirst (K)for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
7 “Blessed are (L)the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
8 “Blessed are (M)the pure in heart, for (N)they shall see God.
9 “Blessed are (O)the peacemakers, for (P)they shall be called (Q)sons[a] of God.
10 (R)“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for (S)theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 (T)“Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely (U)on my account. 12 (V)Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for (W)so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth, (X)but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.
14 (Y)“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 (Z)Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so (AA)that[b] they may see your good works and (AB)give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Christ Came to Fulfill the Law
17 (AC)“Do not think that I have come to abolish (AD)the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but (AE)to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, (AF)until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 (AG)Therefore whoever relaxes (AH)one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least (AI)in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great (AJ)in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds (AK)that of the scribes and Pharisees, you (AL)will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Anger
21 (AM)“You have heard that it was said to those of old, (AN)‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable (AO)to judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that (AP)everyone who is angry with his brother[c] will be liable (AQ)to judgment; whoever insults[d] his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to (AR)the hell[e] of fire. 23 (AS)So if (AT)you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 (AU)Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, (AV)you will never get out until you have paid the last penny.[f]
Lust
27 (AW)“You have heard that it was said, (AX)‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that (AY)everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 (AZ)If your right eye (BA)causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into (BB)hell. 30 (BC)And if your right hand (BD)causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into (BE)hell.
Divorce
31 (BF)“It was also said, (BG)‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ 32 (BH)But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery, and (BI)whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Oaths
33 “Again (BJ)you have heard that it was said to those of old, (BK)‘You shall not swear falsely, but (BL)shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’ 34 But I say to you, (BM)Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for (BN)it is the throne of God, 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is (BO)the city of the great King. 36 And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; (BP)anything more than this comes from evil.[g]
Retaliation
38 (BQ)“You have heard that it was said, (BR)‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I say to you, (BS)Do not resist the one who is evil. But (BT)if anyone (BU)slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And (BV)if anyone would sue you and take your tunic,[h] let him have your cloak as well. 41 And if anyone (BW)forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 (BX)Give to the one who begs from you, and (BY)do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.
Love Your Enemies
43 (BZ)“You have heard that it was said, (CA)‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, (CB)Love your enemies and (CC)pray for those who persecute you, 45 (CD)so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and (CE)sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 (CF)For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet only your brothers,[i] what more are you doing than others? Do not even (CG)the Gentiles do the same? 48 (CH)You therefore must be (CI)perfect, (CJ)as your heavenly Father is perfect.

2 Y abriendo su boca, les enseñaba, diciendo:
3 ¶ Bienaventurados los pobres en espíritu; porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos.
4 Bienaventurados los que lloran (enlutados), porque ellos recibirán consolación.
5 Bienaventurados los mansos; porque ellos recibirán la tierra por heredad.
6 Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre y sed de justicia (o rectitud), porque ellos serán saciados.
7 Bienaventurados los misericordiosos; porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia.
8 Bienaventurados los de limpio corazón; porque ellos verán a Dios.
9 Bienaventurados los pacificadores; porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.
10 Bienaventurados los que padecen persecución por causa de la justicia (o rectitud), porque de ellos es el Reino de los cielos.
11 Bienaventurados sois cuando os vituperen y os persigan, y se dijere toda clase de mal de vosotros por mi causa, mintiendo.
12 Gozaos y alegraos; porque vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; que así persiguieron a los profetas que estuvieron antes de vosotros.
13 ¶ Vosotros sois la sal de la tierra; y si la sal perdiere su sabor ¿con qué será salada? No vale más para nada, sino para ser echada fuera y hollada por los hombres.
14 Vosotros sois la luz del mundo; una ciudad asentada sobre un monte no se puede esconder.
15 Ni se enciende la lámpara y se pone debajo de un almud, sino en el candelero, y alumbra a todos los que están en la casa.
16 Así alumbre vuestra luz delante de los hombres, para que vean vuestras obras buenas, y glorifiquen a vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
17 ¶ No penséis que he venido para desatar la ley o los profetas; no he venido para desatarla, sino para cumplirla.
18 Porque de cierto os digo, que hasta que perezca el cielo y la tierra, ni una jota ni una tilde perecerá de la Ley, hasta que todas las cosas sean cumplidas.
19 De manera que cualquiera que desatare uno de estos mandamientos muy pequeños, y así enseñare a los hombres, muy pequeño será llamado en el Reino de los cielos; mas cualquiera que los hiciere y los enseñare, éste será llamado grande en el Reino de los cielos.
20 Porque os digo, que si vuestra justicia (rectitud) no fuere mayor que la de los escribas y de los fariseos, no entraréis en el Reino de los cielos.
21 ¶ Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No cometerás homicidio; y cualquiera que cometiere homicidio, será culpado del juicio.
22 Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que se enojare descontroladamente con su hermano, será culpado del juicio; y cualquiera que dijere a su hermano: Raca, será culpado del concejo; y cualquiera que dijere: Fatuo, será culpado del infierno.
23 Por tanto, si trajeres tu presente al altar, y allí te acordares de que tu hermano tiene algo contra ti,
24 deja allí tu presente delante del altar, y ve, vuelve primero en amistad con tu hermano, y entonces ven y ofrece tu presente.
25 Concíliate con tu adversario presto, entre tanto que estás con él en el camino; para que no acontezca que el adversario te entregue al juez, y el juez te entregue al alguacil, y seas echado en prisión.
26 De cierto te digo, que no saldrás de allí, hasta que pagues el último cuadrante.
27 ¶ Oísteis que fue dicho a los antiguos: No adulterarás.
28 Mas yo os digo, que cualquiera que mira a la mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón.
29 Por tanto, si tu ojo derecho te fuere ocasión de caer, sácalo, y échalo de ti; que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.
30 Y si tu mano derecha te fuere ocasión de caer, córtala, y échala de ti; que mejor te es que se pierda uno de tus miembros, y no que todo tu cuerpo sea echado al infierno.
31 También fue dicho: Cualquiera que repudiare a su mujer, déle carta de divorcio.
32 Mas yo os digo, que el que repudiare a su mujer, fuera de causa de fornicación, hace que ella adultere; y el que se casare con la repudiada, comete adulterio.
33 ¶ Además habéis oído que fue dicho a los antiguos: No te perjurarás; mas pagarás al Señor tus juramentos.
34 Mas yo os digo: No juréis en ninguna manera; ni por el cielo, porque es el trono de Dios;
35 ni por la tierra, porque es el estrado de sus pies; ni por Jerusalén, porque es la ciudad del gran Rey.
36 Ni por tu cabeza jurarás, porque no puedes hacer un cabello blanco o negro.
37 Mas sea vuestro hablar: Sí, sí; no, no; porque lo que es más de esto, de mal procede.
38 ¶ Oísteis que fue dicho: Ojo por ojo, y diente por diente.
39 Mas yo os digo: No resistáis con mal; antes a cualquiera que te hiriere en tu mejilla diestra, vuélvele también la otra;
40 y al que quisiere ponerte a pleito y tomarte tu ropa, déjale también la capa;
41 y a cualquiera que te cargare por una milla, ve con él dos.
42 Al que te pidiere, dale; y al que quisiere tomar de ti prestado, no se lo rehuses.
43 ¶ Oísteis que fue dicho: Amarás a tu prójimo, y aborrecerás a tu enemigo.
44 Mas yo os digo: Amad a vuestros enemigos, bendecid a los que os maldicen, haced bien a los que os aborrecen, y orad por los que os calumnian y os persiguen;
45 para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos; que hace que su sol salga sobre malos y buenos, y llueva sobre justos e injustos.
46 Porque si amareis a los que os aman, ¿qué salario tendréis? ¿No hacen también lo mismo los publicanos?
47 Y si abrazareis a vuestros hermanos solamente, ¿qué hacéis de más? ¿No hacen también así los publicanos?
48 Sed, pues, vosotros perfectos, como vuestro Padre que está en los cielos es perfecto.
