하나님을 기쁘게 해 드리는 삶
4 형제자매 여러분, 마지막으로 드릴 말씀이 있습니다. 여러분은 우리에게서 어떻게 하면 하나님을 기쁘게 해 드릴 수 있는지 배웠고, 또 배운 대로 살고 있습니다. 이제 주 예수의 이름으로 다시 부탁하고 권합니다. 앞으로 더욱더 그렇게 사십시오. 2 여러분은 우리가 주 예수의 권위로 여러분에게 내린 지시를 잘 알고 있을 것입니다. 3 하나님께서 여러분에게 바라시는 것은, 여러분이 거룩하게 되는 것입니다. 곧 여러분이 성적인 부도덕을 피하고, 4 각기 거룩하고 명예롭게 자기 몸을 다스리는 법을 배우는 것입니다.[a] 5 또 하나님을 모르는 이방 사람들처럼 뜨거운 욕정에 빠져들지 않고, 6 이런 일에 있어서 형제나 자매에게 잘못을 저지르거나, 형제나 자매를 이용하지 않는 것입니다. 주께서는 이런 죄를 짓는 자들을 모두 벌하실 것입니다. 우리는 이 점에 관해서 이미 여러분에게 이야기하고 경고한 바가 있습니다. 7 하나님께서는 우리를 부도덕하게 살라고 부르신 것이 아니라, 거룩하게 살라고 부르셨습니다. 8 그러므로 이런 교훈을 저버리는 사람은, 사람을 저버리는 것이 아니라, 자신의 성령을 보내 주시는 하나님을 저버리는 것입니다.
9 여러분은 직접 하나님에게서 서로 사랑하는 법을 배웠습니다. 그러니 형제자매를 사랑하는 일에 대해서는 우리가 더 말할 필요가 없겠습니다. 10 실제로 여러분은 마케도니아에 있는 모든 형제자매에게 그 사랑을 실천하고 있습니다. 그러나 형제자매 여러분, 여러분에게 다시 권합니다. 더욱더 그렇게 하십시오.
11 우리가 명한 대로, 여러분은 조용히 살기를 간절히 바라십시오. 그리고 각기 자기 일에 마음을 쓰며, 자기 손으로 일해서 살아가도록 최선을 다하십시오. 12 그러면 여러분의 일상생활이 믿지 않는 사람들[b]의 우러름을 받게 될 것이고, 여러분은 남에게 신세를 지지 않게 될 것입니다.
주님의 다시 오심
13 형제자매 여러분, 우리는 여러분이 죽는 사람들에 관하여 모른 채로 있거나, 희망이 없는 다른 사람들처럼 슬퍼하기를 바라지 않습니다. 14 우리는 예수께서 죽으셨다가 다시 살아나셨다는 것을 믿습니다. 그래서 하나님께서, 예수를 통하여 죽은 사람들을 예수와 함께 다시 데려오시리라는 것도 믿습니다. 15 지금 우리가 하는 말은 주님께서 주신 가르침입니다. 주께서 다시 오실 때까지 살아남아 있을 우리들은 이미 죽은 사람들을 결코 앞지르지 못할 것입니다. 16 우렁찬 명령과 천사장[c]의 목소리와 하나님의 나팔 소리가 울려 퍼지는 가운데, 주께서 하늘에서 내려오실 것입니다. 그리고 그리스도 안에서 죽은 사람들이 먼저 일어날 것입니다. 17 그러고 나서 아직 살아남아 있는 우리가 그들과 함께 구름 속으로 들려 올라가, 공중에서 주님을 뵐 것입니다. 그리고 우리는 영원히 주님과 함께 있을 것입니다. 18 그러니 이런 말로 서로 용기를 북돋아 주십시오.

La vida que agrada a Dios
4 Por lo demás, hermanos, les pedimos encarecidamente en el nombre del Señor Jesús que sigan progresando en el modo de vivir que agrada a Dios, tal como lo aprendieron de nosotros. De hecho, ya lo están practicando. 2 Ustedes saben cuáles son las instrucciones que dimos de parte del Señor Jesús.
3 La voluntad de Dios es que sean santificados; que se aparten de la inmoralidad sexual; 4 que cada uno aprenda a controlar su propio cuerpo[a] de una manera santa y honrosa, 5 sin dejarse llevar por los malos deseos como hacen los paganos, que no conocen a Dios. 6 Y que nadie perjudique a su hermano ni se aproveche de él en este asunto. El Señor castiga todo esto, como ya hemos dicho y advertido. 7 Dios no nos llamó a la impureza, sino a la santidad; 8 por tanto, el que rechaza estas instrucciones no rechaza a un hombre, sino a Dios, quien da a ustedes su Espíritu Santo.
9 En cuanto al amor fraternal, no necesitan que escribamos, porque Dios mismo les ha enseñado a amarse unos a otros. 10 En efecto, ustedes aman a todos los hermanos que viven en Macedonia. No obstante, hermanos, los animamos a amarse aún más, 11 a procurar vivir tranquilos, a ocuparse de sus propias responsabilidades y a trabajar con sus propias manos. Así les he mandado 12 para que, por su modo de vivir, se ganen el respeto de los que no son creyentes y no tengan que depender de nadie.
La venida del Señor
13 Hermanos, no queremos que ignoren lo que va a pasar con los que ya han muerto,[b] para que no se entristezcan como esos otros que no tienen esperanza. 14 ¿Acaso no creemos que Jesús murió y resucitó? Así también Dios resucitará con Jesús a los que han muerto en unión con él. 15 Conforme a lo dicho por el Señor, afirmamos que nosotros, los que estemos vivos y hayamos quedado hasta la venida del Señor, de ninguna manera nos adelantaremos a los que hayan muerto. 16 El Señor mismo descenderá del cielo con voz de mando, con voz de arcángel y con trompeta de Dios, y los muertos en Cristo resucitarán primero. 17 Luego los que estemos vivos, los que hayamos quedado, seremos arrebatados junto con ellos en las nubes para encontrarnos con el Señor en el aire. Y así estaremos con el Señor para siempre. 18 Por lo tanto, anímense unos a otros con estas palabras.

Living to Please God
4 As for other matters, brothers and sisters,(A) we instructed you how to live(B) in order to please God,(C) as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 It is God’s will(D) that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;(E) 4 that each of you should learn to control your own body[a](F) in a way that is holy and honorable, 5 not in passionate lust(G) like the pagans,(H) who do not know God;(I) 6 and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister.[b](J) The Lord will punish(K) all those who commit such sins,(L) as we told you and warned you before. 7 For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.(M) 8 Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.(N)
9 Now about your love for one another(O) we do not need to write to you,(P) for you yourselves have been taught by God(Q) to love each other.(R) 10 And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia.(S) Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more,(T) 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands,(U) just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders(V) and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
Believers Who Have Died
13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed(W) about those who sleep in death,(X) so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.(Y) 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again,(Z) and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.(AA) 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord,(AB) will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.(AC) 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven,(AD) with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel(AE) and with the trumpet call of God,(AF) and the dead in Christ will rise first.(AG) 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left(AH) will be caught up together with them in the clouds(AI) to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord(AJ) forever. 18 Therefore encourage one another(AK) with these words.
