⁴⁰那麼，葡萄園的主人來到的時候，會怎樣對待那些佃戶呢？” ⁴¹他們回答：“他會毫不留情地除掉那些惡人，把葡萄園租給按時繳納果子的佃戶。” ⁴²耶穌對他們說：“經上記著：

‘建築工人所棄的石頭，

成了房角的主要石頭；

這是主所作的，

在我們眼中看為希奇。’

這話你們沒有念過嗎？

⁴⁰“Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?”

⁴¹“He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,”^(A) they replied, “and he will rent the vineyard to other tenants,^(B) who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”

⁴²Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

“‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’^[a]?^(C)

⁴⁰When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen?

⁴¹They say unto him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons.

⁴²Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
