16 法利赛人和撒都该人来试探耶稣，请他从天上显个神迹给他们看。 2 耶稣回答说：“晚上天发红，你们就说‘天必要晴’； 3 早晨天发红，又发黑，你们就说‘今日必有风雨’。你们知道分辨天上的气色，倒不能分辨这时候的神迹！ 4 一个邪恶淫乱的世代求神迹，除了约拿的神迹以外，再没有神迹给他看。”耶稣就离开他们去了。
防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵
5 门徒渡到那边去，忘了带饼。 6 耶稣对他们说：“你们要谨慎，防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵。” 7 门徒彼此议论说：“这是因为我们没有带饼吧！” 8 耶稣看出来，就说：“你们这小信的人，为什么因为没有饼彼此议论呢？ 9 你们还不明白吗？不记得那五个饼分给五千人，又收拾了多少篮子的零碎吗？ 10 也不记得那七个饼分给四千人，又收拾了多少筐子的零碎吗？ 11 我对你们说要防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵，这话不是指着饼说的，你们怎么不明白呢？” 12 门徒这才晓得他说的不是叫他们防备饼的酵，乃是防备法利赛人和撒都该人的教训。
认耶稣为基督
13 耶稣到了恺撒利亚-腓立比的境内，就问门徒说：“人说我[a]人子是谁？” 14 他们说：“有人说是施洗的约翰，有人说是以利亚，又有人说是耶利米或是先知里的一位。” 15 耶稣说：“你们说我是谁？” 16 西门彼得回答说：“你是基督，是永生神的儿子。” 17 耶稣对他说：“西门·巴约拿，你是有福的，因为这不是属血肉的指示你的，乃是我在天上的父指示的。 18 我还告诉你：你是彼得，我要把我的教会建造在这磐石上，阴间的权柄[b]不能胜过他。 19 我要把天国的钥匙给你，凡你在地上所捆绑的，在天上也要捆绑；凡你在地上所释放的，在天上也要释放。” 20 当下，耶稣嘱咐门徒，不可对人说他是基督。
预言受难复活降临
21 从此，耶稣才指示门徒，他必须上耶路撒冷去，受长老、祭司长、文士许多的苦，并且被杀，第三日复活。 22 彼得就拉着他，劝他说：“主啊，万不可如此！这事必不临到你身上。” 23 耶稣转过来，对彼得说：“撒旦，退我后边去吧！你是绊我脚的，因为你不体贴神的意思，只体贴人的意思。”

24 于是，耶稣对门徒说：“若有人要跟从我，就当舍己，背起他的十字架来跟从我。 25 因为凡要救自己生命[c]的，必丧掉生命；凡为我丧掉生命的，必得着生命。 26 人若赚得全世界，赔上自己的生命，有什么益处呢？人还能拿什么换生命呢？ 27 人子要在他父的荣耀里同着众使者降临，那时候他要照各人的行为报应各人。 28 我实在告诉你们：站在这里的，有人在没尝死味以前，必看见人子降临在他的国里。”

2 耶稣回答说：“傍晚的时候，你们看见天边出现红霞，就说明天一定是晴天； 3 早晨的时候，你们看见天色又红又暗，就说今天必有风雨。你们懂得分辨天色，却不能分辨时代的征兆。 4 一个邪恶淫乱的世代想看神迹，可是除了约拿的神迹以外，再没有神迹给他们看。”于是耶稣离开他们走了。
防备法利赛人和撒都该人的酵
5 门徒渡到湖对岸，忘记带饼了。 6 耶稣对他们说：“你们要小心提防法利赛人和撒都该人的酵。”
7 门徒彼此议论说：“这是因为我们没有带饼吧。”
8 耶稣知道他们的心思，就说：“你们的信心太小了！为什么议论没有带饼的事呢？ 9 你们还不明白吗？你们不记得那五个饼让五千人吃饱，又装满多少篮子吗？ 10 也不记得那七个饼给四千人吃饱，又装满多少筐子吗？ 11 我说你们要提防法利赛人和撒都该人的酵，指的不是饼，你们怎么不明白呢？”
12 门徒这才恍然大悟，知道耶稣不是叫他们当心什么面酵，而是要提防法利赛人和撒都该人的教导。
彼得宣告耶稣是基督
13 到了凯撒利亚·腓立比境内，耶稣问门徒：“人们说人子是谁？”
14 门徒回答说：“有人说是施洗者约翰，有人说是以利亚，也有人说是耶利米，或其他某位先知。”
15 耶稣问：“那么，你们说我是谁？”
16 西门·彼得回答说：“你是基督，是永活上帝的儿子！”
17 耶稣对他说：“约拿的儿子西门啊，你是有福的！因为这件事不是属血肉的人告诉你的，而是我天上的父启示你的。 18 我告诉你，你是彼得[a]，我要在这磐石上建立我的教会，阴间的势力[b]不能胜过它。 19 我要把天国的钥匙交给你。凡你在地上捆绑的，在天上也要捆绑；凡你在地上释放的，在天上也要释放。”

The Pharisees Ask for a Sign from Heaven(A)
16 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Yeshua. So they asked him to show them a miraculous sign from heaven.
2 He responded to them, “In the evening you say that the weather will be fine because the sky is red. 3 And in the morning you say that there will be a storm today because the sky is red and overcast. You can forecast the weather by judging the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.
4 “Evil and unfaithful people look for a miraculous sign. But the only sign they will be given is that of Jonah.”
Then he left them standing there and went away.
The Yeast of the Pharisees(B)
5 The disciples had forgotten to take any bread along when they went to the other side of the Sea of Galilee.
6 Yeshua said to them, “Be careful! Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”
7 The disciples had been discussing among themselves that they had not taken any bread along.
8 Yeshua knew about their conversation and asked, “Why are you discussing among yourselves that you don’t have any bread? You have so little faith! 9 Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you filled? 10 Don’t you remember the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you filled? 11 Why don’t you understand that I wasn’t talking to you about bread? Watch out for the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!”
12 Then they understood that he didn’t say to watch out for the yeast in bread, but to watch out for the teachings of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Peter Declares His Belief about Jesus(C)
13 When Yeshua came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They answered, “Some say you are John the Baptizer, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He asked them, “But who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God!”
17 Yeshua replied, “Simon, son of Jonah, you are blessed! No human revealed this to you, but my Father in heaven revealed it to you. 18 You are Peter, and I can guarantee that on this rock[a] I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not overpower it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you imprison, God will imprison. And whatever you set free, God will set free.”
20 Then he strictly ordered the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Jesus Foretells That He Will Die and Come Back to Life(D)
21 From that time on Yeshua began to inform his disciples that he had to go to Jerusalem. There he would have to suffer a lot because of the leaders, the chief priests, and the experts in Moses’ Teachings. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be brought back to life.
22 Peter took him aside and objected to this. He said, “Heaven forbid, Lord! This must never happen to you!”
23 But Yeshua turned and said to Peter, “Get out of my way, Satan! You are tempting me to sin. You aren’t thinking the way God thinks but the way humans think.”
What It Means to Follow Jesus(E)
24 Then Yeshua said to his disciples, “Those who want to come with me must say no to the things they want, pick up their crosses, and follow me. 25 Those who want to save their lives will lose them. But those who lose their lives for me will find them. 26 What good will it do for people to win the whole world and lose their lives? Or what will a person give in exchange for life? 27 The Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory. Then he will pay back each person based on what that person has done. 28 I can guarantee this truth: Some people who are standing here will not die until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Peter’s Confession of Christ

Jesus Foretells His Death
21 (AE)From that time [t]Jesus began to [u]point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to (AF)suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day. 22 And yet Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “[v]God forbid it, Lord! This shall never [w]happen to You!” 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, (AG)Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on [x]God’s purposes, but men’s.”
Discipleship Is Costly
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, (AH)take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For (AI)whoever wants to save his [y]life will lose it; but whoever loses his [z]life for My sake will find it. 26 For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but [aa]forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the (AJ)Son of Man (AK)is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and (AL)will then repay every person according to his [ab]deeds.
28 “Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who will not taste death until they see the (AM)Son of Man (AN)coming in His kingdom.”
