24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, (A)he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When (B)evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat by this time was a long way[a] from the land,[b] beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And (C)in the fourth watch of the night[c] he came to them, walking on the sea.

23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray.(A) Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.
