Şi le-a zis: „Adevărat vă spun că sunt unii dintre cei ce stau aici care nu vor gusta moartea înainte de a vedea Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu venind cu putere.“[a]

Schimbarea la faţă

După şase zile, Isus i-a luat cu Sine pe Petru, pe Iacov şi pe Ioan şi i-a dus doar pe ei singuri, pe un munte înalt. Acolo I-a fost schimbată înfăţişarea înaintea lor. Hainele Lui au devenit strălucitor de albe, aşa de albe cum nici un înălbitor de pe pământ n-ar fi putut să le facă. Şi iată că li s-au arătat Ilie împreună cu Moise; ei stăteau de vorbă cu Isus.

Petru I-a zis lui Isus: „Rabbi[b], este bine să fim aici! Să facem trei corturi: unul pentru Tine, unul pentru Moise şi unul pentru Ilie!“ Nu ştia ce să zică, căci erau îngroziţi. Un nor a venit şi i-a acoperit, iar din nor s-a auzit un glas care zicea: „Acesta este Fiul Meu preaiubit! De El să ascultaţi![c]

Ei s-au uitat deodată în jur, dar n-au mai văzut pe nimeni, decât pe Isus singur cu ei.

În timp ce coborau de pe munte, Isus le-a poruncit să nu povestească nimănui ceea ce au văzut, până când nu va învia Fiul Omului dintre cei morţi. 10 Ei au respectat porunca Lui, dar au început să se întrebe ce înseamnă învierea dintre cei morţi. 11 Şi L-au întrebat:

– De ce spun cărturarii că trebuie să vină mai întâi Ilie?

12 El le-a răspuns:

– Într-adevăr, Ilie vine primul pentru a restaura toate lucrurile. Totuşi, cum de este scris despre Fiul Omului că El va urma să sufere mult şi să fie dispreţuit? 13 Dar Eu vă spun că Ilie a şi venit, însă ei au făcut cu el tot ce-au vrut, aşa cum este scris despre el.

Ucenicii nu pot vindeca un copil demoniac

14 Când au ajuns la ceilalţi ucenici, au văzut o mulţime mare în jurul lor şi pe nişte cărturari care discutau aprins cu ei. 15 Imediat ce întreaga mulţime L-a văzut pe Isus, au rămas uimiţi şi au alergat la El să-L salute.

16 El i-a întrebat:

– Despre ce discutaţi atât de aprins cu ei?

17 Un om din mulţime I-a răspuns:

– Învăţătorule, l-am adus la Tine pe fiul meu, care are în el un duh de muţenie. 18 Oriunde îl apucă, îl trânteşte la pământ. El face spume la gură, scrâşneşte din dinţi şi devine ţeapăn. Le-am spus ucenicilor Tăi să-l scoată, dar n-au putut.

19 Isus le-a răspuns:

– O, generaţie necredincioasă! Până când voi mai fi cu voi? Până când vă voi mai răbda? Aduceţi-l la Mine!

20 L-au adus la El. Şi imediat ce L-a văzut pe Isus, duhul i-a provocat copilului spasme. Copilul a căzut la pământ şi se rostogolea, făcând spume la gură.

21 Isus l-a întrebat pe tatăl acestuia:

– De câtă vreme i se întâmplă aşa?

El I-a răspuns:

– Din copilărie. 22 Şi de multe ori îl aruncă în foc şi în apă, ca să-l omoare ... Dar, dacă poţi face ceva, ai milă de noi şi ajută-ne!

23 Isus i-a zis:

– „Dacă poţi ...“?! Toate lucrurile sunt posibile pentru cel care crede!

24 Imediat tatăl copilului a strigat zicând:

– Cred! Ajută necredinţei mele!

25 Când a văzut Isus că mulţimea vine în fuga mare, a mustrat duhul necurat şi i-a zis: „Duh mut şi surd, ţie îţi poruncesc: ieşi afară din el şi să nu mai intri în el!“ 26 Duhul a strigat şi apoi a ieşit provocându-i copilului convulsii puternice. Copilul a rămas ca mort, aşa că mulţi ziceau că a murit. 27 Isus însă l-a apucat de mână şi l-a ridicat. Şi el s-a sculat în picioare.

28 Când a intrat El în casă, fiind doar ei cu Isus, ucenicii L-au întrebat:

– Noi de ce n-am putut să-l scoatem?

29 El le-a răspuns:

– Pe acest soi de demoni nimeni nu-i poate scoate afară, decât prin rugăciune (şi post)[d].

Isus vorbeşte din nou despre moartea şi învierea Sa

30 Au plecat de acolo şi au trecut prin Galileea. Isus nu voia să ştie nimeni lucrul acesta, 31 pentru că îi învăţa pe ucenici şi le zicea: „Fiul Omului urmează să fie trădat în mâinile oamenilor. Ei Îl vor omorî, dar la trei zile după ce-L vor fi omorât, va învia.“ 32 Ei însă n-au priceput aceste vorbe şi se temeau să-L întrebe.

Cine este cel mai mare?

33 Apoi au ajuns în Capernaum. În timp ce se aflau în casă, Isus i-a întrebat:

– Despre ce aţi discutat atât de aprins pe drum?

34 Dar ei tăceau, pentru că pe drum discutaseră aprins unii cu alţii cu privire la cine este cel mai mare dintre ei.

35 Isus S-a aşezat, i-a chemat pe cei doisprezece şi le-a zis:

– Dacă vrea cineva să fie primul, trebuie să fie ultimul dintre toţi şi slujitorul tuturor.

36 Isus a luat un copilaş, l-a pus să stea în mijlocul lor şi, luându-l în braţe, le-a zis:

37 – Oricine primeşte astfel de copilaşi în Numele Meu, pe Mine Mă primeşte, iar cel ce Mă primeşte pe Mine, nu Mă primeşte, de fapt, pe Mine, ci pe Cel Ce M-a trimis pe Mine.

De partea lui Isus

38 Ioan I-a zis:

– Învăţătorule, noi am văzut pe cineva care scotea demoni în Numele Tău şi l-am oprit, pentru că nu ne urma.

39 Isus i-a răspuns:

– Nu-l opriţi, căci nu este nimeni care să facă o minune în Numele Meu şi care să Mă poată vorbi de rău imediat după aceea. 40 Cel care nu este împotriva noastră este de partea noastră. 41 Iar cel care vă dă un pahar cu apă în Numele Meu, pentru că sunteţi ai lui Cristos, adevărat vă spun că nu-şi va pierde răsplata.

Pricini de păcătuire

42 Dar dacă cineva îl face să păcătuiască pe vreunul din aceşti micuţi care cred în Mine, ar fi mai bine pentru el dacă i s-ar atârna de gât o piatră mare de moară şi ar fi aruncat în mare. 43 Dacă mâna ta te face să păcătuieşti, taie-o! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viaţă ciung, decât să ai două mâini şi să mergi în Gheenă[e], în focul care nu poate fi stins, 44 (unde viermele nu moare şi focul nu se stinge)[f]. 45 Şi dacă piciorul tău te face să păcătuieşti, taie-l! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viaţă şchiop, decât să ai două picioare şi să fii aruncat în Gheenă, 46 (unde viermele nu moare şi focul nu se stinge). 47 Dacă ochiul tău te face să păcătuieşti, scoate-l! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu având un singur ochi, decât să ai doi ochi şi să fii aruncat în Gheenă,

48 unde viermele nu moare
    şi focul nu se stinge.[g]

49 Căci orice om va fi sărat cu foc (şi orice jertfă va fi sărată cu sare)[h].

50 Sarea este bună, dar dacă sarea devine fără gust, prin ce o veţi face din nou sărată?! Aveţi deci sare în voi înşivă şi trăiţi în pace unii cu alţii!“

And (A)he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, that there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death till they have seen the [a]kingdom of God come with power.

(B)[b]And six days after, Jesus taketh unto him Peter, and James, and John, and carrieth them up into an high mountain out of the way alone, and his shape was changed before them.

And his raiment did [c]shine, and was very white as snow, so white as no fuller can make upon the earth.

And there appeared unto them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.

Then Peter answered, and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: let us make also three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

Yet he knew not what he said: for they were [d]afraid.

And there was a cloud that shadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, (C)This is my beloved Son: hear him.

And suddenly they looked round about, and saw no more any man save Jesus only with them.

(D)[e]And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them, that they should tell no man what they had seen, save when the Son of man were risen from the dead again.

10 So they [f]kept that matter to themselves, and [g]demanded one of another, what the rising from the dead again should mean.

11 [h]Also they asked him, saying, Why say the Scribes, that (E)Elijah must first come?

12 And he answered, and said unto them, Elijah verily shall first come, and restore all things: and (F)as it is written of the Son of man, he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

13 But I say unto you, that Elijah is come, (and they have done unto him whatsoever they would) as it is written of him.

14 (G)[i]And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the Scribes disputing with them.

15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were amazed, and ran to him, and saluted him.

16 Then he asked the Scribes, What dispute you among yourselves?

17 And one of the company answered, and said, Master, I have brought my son unto thee, which hath a dumb spirit:

18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he [j]teareth him, and he foameth, and gnasheth his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples, that they should cast him out, and they could not.

19 Then he answered him, and said, O faithless generation, how long now shall I be with you! how long now shall I suffer you! Bring him unto me.

20 So they brought him unto him: and as soon as the spirit [k]saw him, he tare him, and he fell down on the ground wallowing and foaming.

21 Then he asked his father, How long time is it since he hath been thus? And he said, Of a child.

22 And oft times he casteth him into the fire, and into the water to destroy him: but if thou canst do anything, help us, and have compassion upon us.

23 And Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe it, [l]all things are possible to him that believeth.

24 And straightway the father of the child crying with tears, said, Lord, I believe: help my unbelief.

25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee come out of him, and enter no more into him.

26 [m]Then the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out, and he was as one dead, insomuch that many said, He is dead.

27 But Jesus took his hand, and lifted him up, and he arose.

28 [n]And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him secretly, Why could not we cast him out?

29 And he said unto them, This kind can by no other means come forth, but by prayer and fasting.

30 (H)And they departed thence, and [o]went together through Galilee, and he would not that any should have known it.

31 [p]For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him, but after that he is killed, he shall rise again the third day.

32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33 (I)[q]After, he came to Capernaum: and when he was in the [r]house, he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among you by the way?

34 And they held their peace: for by the way they reasoned among themselves, who should be the chiefest.

35 And he sat down and called the twelve, and said to them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant unto all.

36 And he took a little child, and set him in the midst of them, and took him in his arms, and said unto them,

37 Whosoever shall receive one of such little children in my Name, receiveth me: and whosoever receiveth me, receiveth not [s]me, but him that sent me.

38 (J)[t]Then John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils by thy Name, which followeth not us, and we forbade him, because he followeth us not.

39 (K)But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man that can do a miracle by my Name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

40 For whosoever is not against us, is on our part.

41 (L)And whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink for my Name’s sake, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

42 (M)[u]And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones, that believe in me, it were better for him rather, that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were cast into the sea.

43 (N)Wherefore if thine hand cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life, maimed, than having two hands, to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched,

44 (O)Where their [v]worm dieth not, and the fire never goeth out.

45 Likewise, if thy foot cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to go halt into life, than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched,

46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire never goeth out.

47 And if thine eye cause thee to offend, pluck it out: it is better for thee to go into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire,

48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire never goeth out.

49 [w]For every man shall be [x]salted with fire: and (P)every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50 (Q)Salt is good: but if the salt be unsavory, wherewith shall it be seasoned? have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

The Transfiguration(C)(D)

After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(E) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. His clothes became dazzling white,(F) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.

Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(G) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)

Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(H) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(I)

Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(J) what they had seen until the Son of Man(K) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.

11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”

12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(L) must suffer much(M) and be rejected?(N) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(O) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”

Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(P)

14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.

16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.

17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”

19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”

20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(Q)

21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”

“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”

23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(R)

24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(S) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.

28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(T) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[a]

Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(U)

30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(V) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(W) and after three days(X) he will rise.”(Y) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(Z) and were afraid to ask him about it.

33 They came to Capernaum.(AA) When he was in the house,(AB) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(AC)

35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(AD)

36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms,(AE) he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”(AF)

Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us(AG)

38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”(AH)

39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us.(AI) 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.(AJ)

Causing to Stumble

42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,(AK) it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.(AL) 43 If your hand causes you to stumble,(AM) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell,(AN) where the fire never goes out.(AO) [44] [b] 45 And if your foot causes you to stumble,(AP) cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.(AQ) [46] [c] 47 And if your eye causes you to stumble,(AR) pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell,(AS) 48 where

“‘the worms that eat them do not die,
    and the fire is not quenched.’[d](AT)

49 Everyone will be salted(AU) with fire.

50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?(AV) Have salt among yourselves,(AW) and be at peace with each other.”(AX)

Et il ajouta : Vraiment, je vous le déclare, quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici présents ne mourront pas avant d’avoir vu le règne de Dieu venir avec puissance.

La révélation du royaume(A)

Six jours plus tard, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et les emmena sur une haute montagne, à l’écart, eux seuls. Là, il fut transfiguré devant eux : ses vêtements devinrent éblouissants et si parfaitement blancs que personne sur la terre ne peut produire une telle blancheur. Alors Elie leur apparut, avec Moïse ; ils parlaient tous deux avec Jésus.

Pierre s’adressa à Jésus et lui dit : Maître, il est bon que nous soyons ici. Nous allons dresser trois tentes, une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Elie.

En fait, il ne savait ce qu’il disait, car ils étaient tous les trois remplis de peur.

Une nuée se forma alors et les enveloppa. Une voix en sortit : Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé. Ecoutez-le !

Aussitôt les disciples regardèrent autour d’eux, et ils ne virent plus personne, sinon Jésus, qui était seul avec eux.

Pendant qu’ils descendaient de la montagne, il leur ordonna de ne raconter à personne ce qu’ils venaient de voir, jusqu’à ce que le Fils de l’homme ressuscite. 10 Ils obéirent à cet ordre, mais discutaient entre eux sur ce que « ressusciter » voulait dire.

12 – Oui, leur dit-il, Elie vient d’abord pour remettre toutes choses en ordre[a]. Pourquoi l’Ecriture annonce-t-elle aussi que le Fils de l’homme souffrira beaucoup et sera traité avec mépris ?

13 En fait, je vous le déclare : Elie est venu et ils l’ont traité comme ils ont voulu, comme l’Ecriture l’a annoncé à son sujet[b].

La guérison d’un enfant(B)

14 Lorsqu’ils revinrent vers les disciples, ils virent une grande foule qui les entourait et des spécialistes de la Loi qui discutaient avec eux. 15 Dès que tous ces gens aperçurent Jésus, ils furent très surpris et se précipitèrent à sa rencontre pour le saluer.

16 – De quoi discutez-vous avec eux ? leur demanda-t-il.

17 De la foule, quelqu’un lui répondit : Maître, je t’ai amené mon fils car il est sous l’emprise d’un esprit qui le rend muet. 18 Partout où cet esprit s’empare de lui, il le jette par terre, de l’écume sort de la bouche de l’enfant, qui grince des dents ; puis il devient tout raide. J’ai demandé à tes disciples de chasser ce mauvais esprit, mais ils n’ont pas pu le faire.

19 Jésus s’adressa à eux et leur dit : Gens incrédules ! Jusqu’à quand devrai-je encore rester avec vous ? Jusqu’à quand devrai-je vous supporter ? Amenez-moi l’enfant !

20 On le lui amena. Mais, dès qu’il vit Jésus, l’esprit mauvais agita convulsivement l’enfant et le jeta par terre. Celui-ci se roula sur le sol, de l’écume à la bouche.

21 – Depuis combien de temps cela lui arrive-t-il ? demanda Jésus à son père.

– Depuis qu’il est tout petit. 22 Souvent même, l’esprit mauvais le pousse à se jeter dans le feu ou dans l’eau pour le faire mourir. Si tu peux faire quelque chose, aie pitié de nous et viens à notre aide !

23 – Si tu peux ! répliqua Jésus. Tout est possible à celui qui croit.

24 Aussitôt le père de l’enfant s’écria : Je crois, mais aide-moi, car je manque de foi !

25 Jésus, voyant la foule affluer, commanda avec sévérité à l’esprit mauvais : Esprit qui rends sourd et muet, lui dit-il, je te l’ordonne, sors de cet enfant et ne rentre plus jamais en lui !

26 L’esprit poussa un grand cri, secoua l’enfant avec violence et sortit de lui. L’enfant resta comme mort, si bien que la plupart des témoins disaient : « Il est mort. »

27 Mais Jésus, prenant l’enfant par la main, le fit lever, et celui-ci se tint debout.

28 Jésus rentra à la maison ; ses disciples, qui étaient seuls avec lui, lui demandèrent alors : Pourquoi n’avons-nous pas réussi, nous, à chasser cet esprit ?

29 Jésus leur répondit : Des esprits comme celui-là, on ne peut les chasser que par la prière[c].

Nouvelle annonce de la mort et de la résurrection de Jésus(C)

30 En partant de là, ils traversèrent la Galilée, mais Jésus ne voulait pas qu’on le sache. 31 Car il se consacrait à l’enseignement de ses disciples. Il leur disait : Le Fils de l’homme va être livré aux mains des hommes ; ils le feront mourir mais, trois jours après sa mort, il ressuscitera.

32 Eux, cependant, ne comprenaient pas ces paroles et ils avaient peur de lui demander des explications.

L’accueil des « petits »(D)

33 Ils arrivèrent à Capernaüm. Quand ils furent rentrés à la maison, Jésus leur demanda : De quoi avez-vous discuté en route ?

34 Mais ils se taisaient car, durant le trajet, ils avaient discuté pour savoir lequel d’entre eux était le plus grand.

35 Jésus s’assit, appela les Douze et leur dit : Si quelqu’un désire être le premier, qu’il se fasse le dernier de tous, et le serviteur de tous.

36 Puis il prit un petit enfant par la main, le plaça au milieu d’eux et, après l’avoir serré dans ses bras, il leur dit : 37 Si quelqu’un accueille, en mon nom, un enfant comme celui-ci, il m’accueille moi-même. Et celui qui m’accueille, ce n’est pas moi seulement qu’il accueille, mais aussi celui qui m’a envoyé.

38 Jean lui dit : Maître, nous avons vu quelqu’un qui chassait les démons en ton nom, et nous lui avons dit de ne plus le faire, parce qu’il ne nous suit pas.

39 – Ne l’en empêchez pas, répondit Jésus, car personne ne peut accomplir un miracle en mon nom et, aussitôt après, dire du mal de moi. 40 Celui qui n’est pas contre nous est pour nous. 41 Et même, si quelqu’un vous donne à boire en mon nom, ne serait-ce qu’un verre d’eau, parce que vous appartenez au Messie, vraiment, je vous l’assure, il ne perdra pas sa récompense.

42 Mais si quelqu’un devait causer la chute de l’un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il vaudrait bien mieux pour lui qu’on lui attache au cou une de ces pierres de meule que font tourner les ânes et qu’on le jette dans le lac.

43 Si ta main cause ta chute, coupe-la ; car il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie avec une seule main que de garder les deux mains et d’être jeté en enfer dans le feu qui ne s’éteint jamais[d]. 45 Si ton pied cause ta chute, coupe-le ; car il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie avec un seul pied que de garder les deux pieds et d’être jeté en enfer[e]. 47 Si ton œil cause ta chute, jette-le au loin ; car il vaut mieux pour toi entrer avec un seul œil dans le royaume de Dieu que de garder les deux yeux et d’être jeté en enfer, 48 où le ver rongeur ne meurt point et où le feu ne s’éteint jamais[f].

49 En effet, chacun doit être salé de feu. 50 Le sel est utile, mais s’il perd son goût, avec quoi lui rendrez-vous sa saveur ? Ayez du sel en vous-mêmes et vivez en paix entre vous.

And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.

And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.

11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?

12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.

15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.

16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?

17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.

19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.

20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.

21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.

23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.

26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.

27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?

29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.

31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.

32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?

34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.

35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.

36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,

37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.

38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.

39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.

40 For he that is not against us is on our part.

41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.

42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.

43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.

50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
