Jesus(A) entered the synagogue(B) again, and a man was there who had a shrivelled(C) hand. In order to accuse(D) him, they were watching him closely(E) to see whether he would heal(F) him on the Sabbath.(G) He told the man with the shrivelled hand, ‘Stand before us.’ Then he said to them, ‘Is it lawful(H) to do good(I) on the Sabbath or to do evil,(J) to save life(K) or to kill? ’(L) But they were silent.(M) After looking round at them with anger,(N) he was grieved at the hardness(O) of their hearts and told the man, ‘Stretch out your hand.’ So he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.(P) Immediately the Pharisees(Q) went out and started plotting(R) with the Herodians(S) against him, how they might kill(T) him.

Ministering to the Multitude

Jesus(U) departed with his disciples to the sea, and a large crowd followed from Galilee,(V) and a large crowd followed from Judea,(W) Jerusalem,(X) Idumea, beyond the Jordan,(Y) and around Tyre(Z) and Sidon.(AA) The large crowd came to him because they heard about everything he was doing. Then he told his disciples to have a small boat(AB) ready for him, so that the crowd wouldn’t crush him. 10 Since he had healed(AC) many, all who had diseases were pressing towards him to touch(AD) him. 11 Whenever the unclean(AE) spirits(AF) saw him, they fell down(AG) before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God! ’(AH) 12 And he would strongly warn(AI) them not to make him known.(AJ)

The Twelve Apostles

13 Jesus(AK) went up the mountain(AL) and summoned those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve, whom he also named apostles,[a](AM) to be with him, to send them out to preach,(AN) 15 and to have authority to[b] drive out demons. 16 He appointed the Twelve:[c](AO) To Simon,(AP) he gave the name Peter;(AQ) 17 and to James(AR) the son of Zebedee,(AS) and to his brother John,(AT) he gave the name ‘Boanerges’ (that is, ‘Sons of Thunder’(AU)); 18 Andrew;(AV) Philip(AW) and Bartholomew; Matthew(AX) and Thomas;(AY) James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot,(AZ) who also betrayed him.

A House Divided

20 Jesus entered a house, and the crowd gathered again so that they were not even able to eat.[d] 21 When his family(BA) heard this, they set out to restrain him, because they said, ‘He’s out of his mind.’(BB)

22 The scribes(BC) who had come down from Jerusalem said, ‘He is possessed by Beelzebul,’(BD) and, ‘He drives out(BE) demons(BF) by the ruler(BG) of the demons.’(BH)

23 So he summoned(BI) them and spoke to them in parables:(BJ) ‘How can Satan(BK) drive out Satan?(BL) 24 If a kingdom(BM) is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand but is finished. 27 But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his possessions unless he first ties up(BN) the strong man. Then he can plunder his house.

28 ‘Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven for all sins and whatever blasphemies(BO) they utter. 29 But whoever blasphemes(BP) against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness,(BQ) but is guilty(BR) of an eternal sin’[e](BS) –  30 because they were saying, ‘He has an unclean spirit.’(BT)

True Relationships

31 His(BU) mother(BV) and his brothers(BW) came, and standing outside, they sent word to him and called him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him and told him, ‘Look, your mother, your brothers,(BX) and your sisters[f] are outside asking for you.’

33 He replied to them, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers? ’ 34 Looking at those sitting in a circle around him, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers!(BY) 35 Whoever does the will of God(BZ) is my brother and sister and mother.’

Epi li di moun ki t'ap gade l' yo: -Kisa lalwa nou an pèmèt moun fè jou repo a? Byen osinon mal? Sove lavi yon nonm osinon kite l' mouri? Men yo pa louvri bouch yo reponn li.

Epi li di nonm lan konsa: -Lonje men ou. Nonm lan lonje men li. Latou men an geri.

Menm lè a, farizyen yo soti nan sinagòg la, y' al met tèt yo ansanm ak patizan Ewòd yo pou yo wè ki jan pou yo touye Jezi.

Jezi wete kò l' ak disip li yo, li ale bò lanmè Galile a. Yon gwo foul moun t'ap swiv li. Yo te soti toupatou: te gen moun Galile, moun Jide,

moun lavil Jerizalèm, moun peyi Idime, moun peyi lòt bò larivyè Jouden an, moun nan vwazenaj lavil Tir ak lavil Sidon. Tout foul pèp sa a te vin jwenn li paske yo te tande tou sa l' t'ap fè.

Jezi mande disip li yo pou yo pare yon kannòt pou li, pou foul la pa t' toufe l' twòp.

10 Paske, jan li t'ap geri anpil moun, tout malad yo te vide sou li pou yo te manyen li.

11 Chak fwa move lespri yo te wè l', yo te tonbe nan pye l' ap plede rele: -Ou se pitit Bondye a.

12 Men Jezi te pale sevè ak move lespri yo pou yo pa t' di ki moun li te ye.

13 ¶ Apre sa, li moute sou yon ti mòn. Li rele moun li te bezwen yo. Yo vin jwenn li.

14 Li chwazi douz nan yo pou mache ak li. Li rele yo apòt, epi li voye yo mache bay mesaj la.

15 Li te ba yo pouvwa pou chase mouve lespri.

16 Men douz moun li te chwazi yo: Se te Simon (Jezi te ba li yon ti non Pyè),

23 Jezi rele yo, li di yo an parabòl: -Ki jan Satan fè ap chase Satan?

27 Pesonn pa kapab antre lakay yon nonm vanyan pou piye sa l' genyen, si li pa mare nonm vanyan an anvan.

30 Jezi te pale konsa paske yo t'ap di-Li gen yon move lespri sou li.

31 ¶ Apre sa, manman Jezi ak frè l' yo vin rive. Yo kanpe deyò a, yo fè rele li.

Yo di l' konsa: -Men manman ou ak frè ou yo deyò a, y'ap mande pou ou.

33 Li reponn yo: -Kilès ki manman m', kilès ki frè mwen?

34 Epi li pwonmennen je l' sou moun ki te chita sou kote l' yo, li di konsa: -Gade: men manman m', men frè m' yo.

35 Paske, tout moun ki fè sa Bondye mande yo fè, se moun sa yo ki frè m', ki sè m', ki manman mwen.

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

Another time Jesus went into the synagogue,(A) and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely(B) to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.(C) Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, “Stand up in front of everyone.”

Then Jesus asked them, “Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” But they remained silent.

He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians(D) how they might kill Jesus.(E)

Crowds Follow Jesus(F)

Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.(G) When they heard about all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.(H) Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him. 10 For he had healed many,(I) so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.(J) 11 Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.”(K) 12 But he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.(L)

Jesus Appoints the Twelve(M)

13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.(N) 14 He appointed twelve[a](O) that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons.(P) 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter),(Q) 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

Jesus Accused by His Family and by Teachers of the Law(R)(S)

20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered,(T) so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.(U) 21 When his family[b] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”(V)

22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem(W) said, “He is possessed by Beelzebul!(X) By the prince of demons he is driving out demons.”(Y)

23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables:(Z) “How can Satan(AA) drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house.(AB) 28 Truly I tell you, people can be forgiven all their sins and every slander they utter, 29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; they are guilty of an eternal sin.”(AC)

30 He said this because they were saying, “He has an impure spirit.”

31 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived.(AD) Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you.”

33 “Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked.

34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”
