Đức Giê-su Ứng Hầu Trước Phi-lát(A)
15 Vào lúc sáng sớm, các thượng tế cùng các trưởng lão, các giáo sư Kinh Luật và cả hội đồng họp hội nghị với nhau. Họ cho trói Đức Giê-su và dẫn đi nộp cho Phi-lát.
2 Phi-lát hỏi Ngài: “Anh có phải là Vua dân Do Thái không?” Ngài đáp: “Chính ông nói điều đó.”
3 Các thượng tế tố cáo Ngài nhiều điều. 4 Phi-lát lại hỏi: “Anh không trả lời gì sao? Xem đấy, họ tố cáo anh nhiều điều.”
5 Nhưng Đức Giê-su chẳng trả lời thêm, khiến Phi-lát càng ngạc nhiên.
Đức Giê-su Bị Kết Án Tử Hình(B)
6 Vào dịp lễ, Phi-lát thường phóng thích một tù nhân do dân chúng yêu cầu. 7 Có một người tên Ba-ra-ba bị tù cùng với những người nổi loạn. Người này đã can tội sát nhân trong một cuộc nổi dậy. 8 Đám đông kéo đến, xin Phi-lát làm cho họ như thường lệ.
9 Nhưng Phi-lát trả lời: “Các ngươi có muốn ta tha Vua dân Do Thái cho các ngươi không?” 10 Vì ông biết do lòng ganh ghét mà các thượng tế đã nộp Ngài. 11 Nhưng các thượng tế xúi giục đám đông xin tha Ba-ra-ba.
12 Phi-lát đáp lại chúng: “Các ngươi muốn ta làm gì với người mà các ngươi gọi là Vua dân Do Thái?”
13 Họ lại la lên: “Hãy đóng đinh hắn!”
14 Phi-lát nói: “Tại sao? Người này đã làm điều ác gì?” Nhưng chúng càng la lên: “Hãy đóng đinh hắn!”
15 Vì muốn làm vừa lòng đám đông nên Phi-lát tha Ba-ra-ba cho họ. Sau khi đánh đòn Đức Giê-su, ông giao Ngài cho họ đem đi đóng đinh.
Quân Lính Chế Giễu Đức Giê-su(C)
16 Quân lính dẫn Ngài vào bên trong công đường (tức là dinh thống đốc); và tập họp tất cả đội quân tại đó. 17 Họ khoác cho Ngài một chiếc áo đỏ tía và đội cho Ngài một mão đan bằng gai. 18 Họ chào Ngài: “Hoan hô Vua dân Do Thái!” 19 Họ lấy cây sậy đánh vào đầu Ngài, nhổ trên Ngài, và quỳ lạy Ngài. 20 Sau khi chế giễu, họ lột áo tía ra, mặc áo của Ngài lại và dẫn đi để đóng đinh.
Đức Giê-su Bị Đóng Đinh(D)
21 Họ ép buộc Si-môn, người Sy-ren, cha của A-léc-xan-đơ và Ru-phu, vừa từ ngoài đồng về ngang qua đó vác thập tự giá cho Ngài. 22 Họ đem Ngài đến một nơi gọi là đồi Gô-gô-tha, nghĩa là đồi Sọ. 23 Họ cho Ngài uống rượu pha với một dược, nhưng Ngài không uống. 24 Họ đóng đinh Ngài, rồi chia nhau áo của Ngài, bắt thăm để xem ai được phần nào.
25 Vào lúc chín giờ sáng[a] họ đóng đinh Ngài. 26 Bảng án kết tội Ngài ghi: “Vua Dân Do Thái.” 27 Họ cũng đóng đinh hai tên cướp chung với Ngài, một tên bên phải, một tên bên trái. 28 Lời Kinh Thánh được ứng nghiệm như vầy: “Ngài bị kể như những phạm nhân.”[b] 29 Những kẻ đi ngang qua đó phỉ báng Ngài, lắc đầu nói rằng: “Ê! Người đòi phá hủy đền thờ và cất lại trong ba ngày, 30 hãy tự cứu mình, và xuống khỏi thập tự giá đi!”
31 Các thượng tế và các giáo sư Kinh Luật cũng làm như vậy, họ chế nhạo Ngài và nói với nhau: “Hắn cứu kẻ khác mà không tự cứu mình được, 32 bây giờ hãy để Chúa Cứu Thế, Vua dân Y-sơ-ra-ên, xuống khỏi thập tự giá cho chúng ta thấy và tin.” Hai tên cướp bị đóng đinh chung với Ngài cũng mắng nhiếc Ngài.

33 Từ giữa trưa[c] đến ba giờ chiều,[d] tối tăm bao trùm khắp đất. 34 Vào lúc ba giờ chiều, Đức Giê-su kêu lớn tiếng: “Ê-lô-i, Ê-lô-i, la-ma sa-bách-tha-ni?”, nghĩa là: “Đức Chúa Trời tôi ôi, Đức Chúa Trời tôi ôi, sao Ngài lìa bỏ tôi?”
35 Mấy người đang đứng đó nghe vậy, nói rằng: “Xem kìa, hắn gọi Ê-li.”
36 Một người chạy đi lấy miếng bọt biển thấm đầy giấm, gắn trên đầu cây sậy đưa cho Ngài uống, nói rằng: “Hãy để yên! Coi Ê-li có đến đem hắn xuống không?”
37 Nhưng Đức Giê-su kêu lên một tiếng lớn rồi tắt thở.
38 Bức màn trong đền thờ bị xé làm đôi từ trên xuống dưới. 39 Viên đội trưởng đứng đối diện với Ngài, thấy Ngài tắt thở như thế thì nói: “Người này thật là Con Đức Chúa Trời!”
40 Cũng có những phụ nữ từ đàng xa nhìn xem, trong số ấy có Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len, Ma-ri mẹ của Gia-cơ nhỏ và của Giô-sê, và Sa-lô-mê, 41 là những người đã theo và phục vụ Ngài khi còn ở Ga-li-lê, và nhiều phụ nữ khác là những người cùng lên Giê-ru-sa-lem với Ngài.

42 Đến chiều tối, vì là ngày chuẩn bị trước ngày Sa-bát, 43 Giô-sép người A-ri-ma-thê, một nghị viên đáng kính của hội đồng quốc gia, cũng là người đang trông đợi Nước Đức Chúa Trời, mạnh dạn đi đến gặp Phi-lát để xin thi thể Đức Giê-su. 44 Phi-lát ngạc nhiên là Ngài đã chết rồi nên cho gọi viên đội trưởng đến hỏi xem Ngài đã chết lâu chưa. 45 Được viên đội trưởng xác nhận, ông mới giao thi thể cho Giô-sép. 46 Sau khi mua một tấm vải gai, ông đem Ngài xuống, quấn vải quanh thi hài, và đặt Ngài trong mộ đã được đục trong đá; rồi ông lăn một tảng đá chận cửa mộ. 47 Ma-ri Ma-đơ-len và Ma-ri mẹ Giô-sép đều thấy nơi mai táng Ngài.

15 And as soon as it was boker, the Rashei Hakohanim (the Chief Priests) with the Zekenim and Sofrim (Scribes) and [the] whole Sanhedrin, having performed the akedah (binding) of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, led [him] away and handed [him] over to Pilate. [BERESHIS 22:9]
2 And Pilate questioned Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Are you the Melech HaYehudim? And, in reply, he says, You say so.
3 And the Rashei Hakohanim were accusing Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach [of] many things.
4 And Pilate again questioned him, saying, Do you not answer anything? Look how many things they accuse you [of].
5 But Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach no longer answered anything, so Pilate was astounded. [YESHAYAH 53:7]
6 Now [at] every Chag he was releasing to them one prisoner for whom they were making bakosha (request).
7 Now there was the one being called Bar-Abba, who had been imprisoned with his fellow insurrectionists and who, at the time of the Mered (Revolt, Uprising), had committed retzach (murder).
8 So the crowd came and began to ask Pilate to do for them just as in the past was his custom.
9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Do you wish [that] I should release to you the Melech HaYehudim?
10 For Pilate knew that because of kinah (envy) the Rashei Hakohanim had handed him over to him.
11 But the Rashei Hakohanim incited the crowd that Pilate should instead release Bar-Abba to them.
12 But Pilate, in reply again, was saying to them, What then do you wish [that] I should do with the one whom you call the Melech HaYehudim?
13 And again they cried out, Let him be talui al HaEtz (being hanged on the Tree)! [DEVARIM 21:23]
14 But Pilate was saying to them, Why? What ra’ah has he committed? But they all the more cried out, Let him be talui al HaEtz (being hanged on the Tree)! [DEVARIM 21:23]
15 So Pilate, desiring to placate the crowd, released to them Bar-Abba, and handed over Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach to be scourged [with the flagellum] and to be talui al HaEtz (to be hanged on the Tree, DEVARIM 21:23).
16 And the chaiyalim (soldiers) led away Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach into the courtyard, which is [the] Praetorium, the governor’s headquarters, and they called together [the] whole cohort.
17 And they clothe him in [royal] purple and place upon him a keter (crown) of thorns that they had woven together.
18 And they began to greet him, Hail, Melech HaYehudim!
19 And they were striking him [on] the rosh with a staff and they were spitting on him and bending their knees and bowing down before him. [TEHILLIM 22:8,17]
20 After mocking him, they stripped him of [royal] purple and clothed him in his garments. And they lead him out that they might make him be talui al HaEtz (being hanged on the Tree). [DEVARIM 21:23]
21 And a certain Shimon from Cyrene was passing by, who was coming in from [the] countryside. He was the father of Alexander and Rufus. The chaiyalim (soldiers) requisition him in order that he carry Moshiach’s Etz. [DEVARIM 21:23; YESHAYAH 53:4-5]
22 And they bring Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach to a place called Gulgotha, which means, being translated, Place of the Skull.
23 And they were giving to him yayin having been mixed with myrrh, but this one did not take it. [TEHILLIM 69:22 (21); MISHLE 31:6]
24 And they hanged Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach on HaEtz and YICHALLEKU VEGADAI (they divide the garments) of Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, and VAPPILU GORAL (they cast lots) for them, to decide what each might take. [TEHILLIM 22:19 (18)]
25 Now it was [the] third hour when they nailed and hanged Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach on HAETZ. [DEVARIM 21:23]
26 And the inscription of the charge against him was inscribed above his rosh, Melech HaYehudim.
27 And with him they also nailed, each to his own etz, shnei shodedim, one on [the] right, one on [the] left of him.
28 [And the Kitvei Hakodesh was fulfilled, VES POSHEIM NIMNAH (and with lawless persons he was numbered YESHAYAH 53:12).]
29 And the ones passing by were reviling him and shaking their heads and saying, Ha! The one bringing churban on the Beis HaMikdash and rebuilding [it] in shlosha yamim, [TEHILLIM 22:7; 109:25]
30 Save yourself! Come down from the etz!
31 Likewise, also, the Rashei Hakohanim with the Sofrim were also mocking him, saying, He saved others, but himself he is not able to save. [TEHILLIM 22:7]
32 Let the Moshiach, let Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach of Yisroel, let [him] come down now from the etz, in order that we may see and have emunah! And the ones having been hanged on the etz on either side of him were reproaching him. [Mk 8:31]
33 And when the sixth hour came [high noon], it became choshech over kol haaretz until [the] ninth hour. [AMOS 8:9]
34 And at the ninth hour, he cried out in a kol gadol (loud voice), Eloi, Eloi lamah sabachthani?‖which means, being translated, ELI ELI LAMAH AZAVTANI? (My G-d, my G-d, why have you forsaken me? [TEHILLIM 22:1])
35 And some of the ones having been standing nearby and having heard, were saying, Hinei! He calls for Eliyahu HaNavi!
36 And someone having run and having filled a sponge with CHOMETZ (vinegar TEHILLIM 69:21), and having placed it on a staff, gave a drink to him, saying, Leave him alone. Let us see if Eliyahu Hanavi comes to take him down.
37 And Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, having uttered a kol gadol (loud voice) and having breathed his last, expired.
38 And the Parochet in the Heikhal was torn in two from top to bottom.
39 And the centurion, having stood nearby opposite him, and having seen that he expired this way, said Beemes (actually, in truth), this man was the Ben HaElohim!
40 And there were also nashim (women) looking on from a distance, among whom [were] Miryam from Magdala, and Miryam the Em of the younger Yaakov and of Yosi, and Shlomit. [TEHILLIM 38:11]
41 They were with Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach in the Galil and they had been following him [as talmidat] and serving him, and there were many other Jewish women who, with Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach, had made their aliyah leregel (pilgrimage) up to Yerushalayim.
42 And already, erev (evening) fast approaching, vibahlt (since) it was Preparation Day, which is the day before Shabbos,
43 Yosef of Ramatayim, a member of the Sanhedrin and a man of chashivut (prominence) there, a man who was also himself looking forward to the Malchut Hashem, had the bold chozek to go into Pilate and ask for the gufat Yehoshua.
44 And Pilate was amazed that Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach was already niftar (deceased), and Pilate summoned the centurion to question him whether Yehoshua was niftar already.
45 And having found out from the centurion, he gave the geviyah (body) to Yosef. [BERESHIS 47:18]
46 And having bought linen cloth tachrichim (shrouds) and having taken Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach down, he wrapped him in the tachrichim (shrouds) and placed him in a kever which had been cut from rock, and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the kever.
47 And Miryam of Magdala and Miryam the Em of Yosi were observing [T.N. as chevra kadesha shomrim eyewitnesses] of where Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach had been laid.

Jesus Before Pilate(A)
15 Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law(B) and the whole Sanhedrin,(C) made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate.(D)
2 “Are you the king of the Jews?”(E) asked Pilate.
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
3 The chief priests accused him of many things. 4 So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”
5 But Jesus still made no reply,(F) and Pilate was amazed.
6 Now it was the custom at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. 7 A man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising. 8 The crowd came up and asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did.
9 “Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?”(G) asked Pilate, 10 knowing it was out of self-interest that the chief priests had handed Jesus over to him. 11 But the chief priests stirred up the crowd to have Pilate release Barabbas(H) instead.
12 “What shall I do, then, with the one you call the king of the Jews?” Pilate asked them.
13 “Crucify him!” they shouted.
14 “Why? What crime has he committed?” asked Pilate.
But they shouted all the louder, “Crucify him!”
15 Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged,(I) and handed him over to be crucified.
The Soldiers Mock Jesus(J)
16 The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace(K) (that is, the Praetorium) and called together the whole company of soldiers. 17 They put a purple robe on him, then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him. 18 And they began to call out to him, “Hail, king of the Jews!”(L) 19 Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. 20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out(M) to crucify him.
The Crucifixion of Jesus(N)
21 A certain man from Cyrene,(O) Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus,(P) was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross.(Q) 22 They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means “the place of the skull”). 23 Then they offered him wine mixed with myrrh,(R) but he did not take it. 24 And they crucified him. Dividing up his clothes, they cast lots(S) to see what each would get.
25 It was nine in the morning when they crucified him. 26 The written notice of the charge against him read: the king of the jews.(T)
27 They crucified two rebels with him, one on his right and one on his left. [28] [a] 29 Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads(U) and saying, “So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,(V) 30 come down from the cross and save yourself!” 31 In the same way the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him(W) among themselves. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! 32 Let this Messiah,(X) this king of Israel,(Y) come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
The Death of Jesus(Z)
33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.(AA) 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b](AB)
35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”
36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar,(AC) put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.
37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.(AD)
38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.(AE) 39 And when the centurion,(AF) who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[c] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”(AG)
40 Some women were watching from a distance.(AH) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[d] and Salome.(AI) 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.(AJ)
The Burial of Jesus(AK)
42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath).(AL) So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council,(AM) who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,(AN) went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion(AO) that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.(AP) 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph(AQ) saw where he was laid.
