阴谋杀害耶稣
14 过两天就是逾越节和除酵节了。祭司长们和经文士们在图谋怎样用诡计拘捕耶稣，把他杀掉。 2 不过他们说：“不可在节日期间，免得民众发生骚乱。”
在伯大尼被膏抹
3 耶稣在伯大尼，在麻风病人西门家里坐席的时候，有一个女人拿着一个玉瓶进来。瓶里盛着[a]极其贵重的纯哪哒香液。她打破玉瓶，把香液浇在耶稣的头上。 4 有些人心里很不满，说：“为什么要这样浪费香液呢？ 5 这香液本来可以卖三百多个银币[b]，分给穷人。”他们就责备那女人。
6 耶稣说：“由她吧！你们为什么为难她呢？她为我做了一件美好的事。 7 要知道，你们总是有穷人与你们在一起，只要你们愿意，随时可以为他们做好事。但你们不总是有我。 8 她尽她所能的做了。她是为我的安葬，预先膏抹了我的身体。 9 我确实地告诉你们：在全世界，福音无论传到什么地方，这女人所做的事也将被述说，做为对她的记念。”
10 那时候，加略人犹大，就是十二使徒[c]中的一个，到祭司长们那里去，要把耶稣交给他们。 11 他们听了就欢喜，并且许诺给他银钱。于是犹大就图谋怎样找机会把耶稣交出去。
预备逾越节的晚餐
12 除酵节的第一日，就是人们宰杀逾越节羔羊的那一天，耶稣的门徒们问他：“你要我们到哪里去预备，好让你吃逾越节的晚餐呢？”
13 于是耶稣差派了他的两个门徒，对他们说：“你们进城去，会有一个人提着一罐水迎面而来，你们就跟着他。 14 他进哪一家，你们就对那家的主人说：‘老师问：我的客房，就是我与我的门徒们一起吃逾越节晚餐的客房在哪里呢？’ 15 他会给你们看楼上一间预备好的大房间。你们就在那里为我们预备吧。” 16 两个门徒出去，进了城，所看到的正如耶稣对他们所说的。他们就预备了逾越节的晚餐。
在逾越节被出卖
17 到了晚上，耶稣与十二使徒一起来了。 18 他们坐着吃饭的时候，耶稣说：“我确实地告诉你们：你们当中有一个人要出卖我，他正与我一起吃饭。”
19 他们开始感到忧伤，就一个接一个地问耶稣：“不会是我吧？”
20 耶稣对他们说：“是你们十二使徒中的一个。他正与我一同在盘子里蘸饼。 21 人子确实要离去，正如经上指着他所写的，但是出卖人子的那个人有祸了。对他来说，没有出生倒好。”
第一次圣餐
22 在他们吃的时候，耶稣拿起饼来，祝福了，就掰开，递给门徒们，说：“你们领受[d]吧，这是我的身体。”
23 接着，他拿起杯来，祝谢了，递给门徒们。他们都喝了。 24 耶稣对他们说：“这是我的血，是为立约[e]的，为许多人所流的。 25 我确实地告诉你们：我绝不再喝这葡萄汁[f]，直到我在神的国里喝新的那一天。” 26 他们唱了赞美诗[g]，就出来，往橄榄山去了。
预言彼得不认主
27 耶稣对他们说：“你们都将被绊倒[h]，因为经上记着：
‘我将击打牧人，
羊群就被分散。’[i]
28 但是我复活以后，要在你们之前到加利利去。”
29 彼得对耶稣说：“即使所有的人被绊倒[j]，我还是不会。”
30 可是耶稣对他说：“我确实地告诉你：今天，就在今夜，鸡叫两遍以前，你会三次不认我。”
31 彼得却坚决[k]地说：“就算我必须与你同死，我也绝不会不认你。”所有的门徒也都这么说。
园中的祷告
32 他们来到一个名叫客西马尼的地方。耶稣对他的门徒们说：“我祷告的时候，你们坐在这里。” 33 他带了彼得、雅各和约翰一起去。这时候，他开始忧惧起来，极其难过， 34 对他们说：“我的灵魂很忧伤，几乎要死。你们留在这里，要警醒。” 35 耶稣稍往前走，俯伏在地，祷告说，如果有可能，让那时刻离开他。 36 他说：“阿爸！父啊！在你，没有不可能的事，请把这杯从我这里拿走吧！但不要照我的意愿，而要照你的意愿。”
37 耶稣回来，看见他们睡着了，就对彼得说：“西门，你睡着了？难道你不能警醒一个小时吗？ 38 要警醒祷告，免得陷入试探。你们心灵虽然愿意，肉体却是软弱的。”
39 耶稣又去祷告，说了同样的话。 40 他又回来，看见他们在睡觉，因为他们的眼皮发沉，也不知道要回答耶稣什么。 41 耶稣第三次回来，对他们说：“你们还在睡觉、休息吗？已经够了，时候到了！看哪，人子被交在[l]罪人的手里了。 42 起来，我们走吧！看，那出卖我的人快到了！”
犹大亲吻的暗号
43 耶稣还在说话的时候，忽然十二使徒之一的犹大来了。有一群人拿着刀剑和棍棒与他一起来，他们是祭司长们、经文士们和长老们所派来的。 44 那出卖耶稣的人已经和他们定了一个暗号，说：“我如果亲吻谁，谁就是那个人。你们把他抓住，小心地带走。” 45 犹大一到，就上前对耶稣说：“拉比！”然后亲吻了他。 46 他们就下手拘捕了耶稣。 47 站在旁边的一个门徒拔出刀来，向大祭司的奴仆砍去，削掉了他的一个耳朵。
48 耶稣对他们说：“你们带着刀剑和棍棒出来抓我，就像对付强盗那样吗？ 49 我天天在圣殿里教导人，和你们在一起，而你们不抓我。不过这是为要应验那些经文。” 50 这时候，所有的门徒都离开他逃跑了。
51 有一个年轻人，赤身披上一块细麻布，跟在耶稣后面。那些人[m]就抓住他， 52 可是他却丢下麻布，赤着身子逃跑了。
在议员面前受审
53 他们把耶稣带到大祭司那里。所有的祭司长、长老和经文士都聚在一起。 54 彼得远远地跟着耶稣，直到进了大祭司的院子里。他与差役们一起坐在火边取暖。
55 当时，祭司长们和全议会的人为了要处死耶稣，都在寻找证据来控告他。可是他们找不出什么。 56 许多人做伪证诬告他，可是这些证词互相矛盾。 57 有一些人站起来做伪证控告他，说： 58 “我们听他说过‘我要拆毁这座人手所造的圣所，三天内另建一座不是人手所造的。’” 59 可是他们这个证词也是互相矛盾的。
60 于是大祭司就起来站到中间问耶稣，说：“对这些人控告你的事，你什么都不回应吗？” 61 耶稣沉默不语，什么也不回答。大祭司又问他，说：“你是基督——那当受颂赞者的儿子吗？”
62 耶稣说：“我就是。而且你们将看见人子坐在全能者的右边，在天上的云彩中来临。[n]”
63 大祭司就撕裂自己的衣服，说：“难道我们还需要什么见证人吗？ 64 你们都听见了这亵渎的话。你们怎么看？”
他们都判定他是该死的。 65 接着，有些人开始向他吐唾沫，蒙住他的脸，用拳头打他，对他说：“你说预言吧！”差役们也用手掌打他。
彼得不认主
66 彼得正在下边院子里的时候，大祭司的一个女仆过来了。 67 她看见彼得在取暖，就注视着他，说：“你也与那个拿撒勒人耶稣是一伙的。”
68 彼得却否认说：“我既不明白，也不知道你在说什么。”于是他就出去，到了门廊。这时候，鸡叫了[o]。
69 那女仆看见他，又开始对站在旁边的人说：“这个人是与他们一伙的。”
70 彼得再次否认。过了一会儿，站在旁边的人又对彼得说：“你真的是与他们一伙的，因为你也是加利利人[p]。”
71 他就开始赌咒并起誓说：“我不认识你们所讲的这个人。”
72 立时，鸡叫了第二遍。彼得想起耶稣对他说过的话：“鸡叫两遍以前，你会三次不认我”，他就忍不住痛哭起来。

Sfatul împotriva lui Isus
14 După două(A) zile era Praznicul Paştelor şi al Azimilor. Preoţii cei mai de seamă şi cărturarii căutau cum să prindă pe Isus cu vicleşug şi să-L omoare. 2 Căci ziceau: „Nu în timpul praznicului, ca nu cumva să se facă tulburare în norod”.
Mirul turnat pe capul lui Isus
3 Pe(B) când şedea Isus la masă, în Betania, în casa lui Simon leprosul, a venit o femeie care avea un vas de alabastru cu mir de nard curat, foarte scump, şi, după ce a spart vasul, a turnat mirul pe capul lui Isus. 4 Unora dintre ei le-a fost necaz şi ziceau: „Ce rost are risipa aceasta de mir? 5 Mirul acesta s-ar fi putut vinde cu mai mult de trei sute de lei[a] şi să se dea săracilor.” Şi le era foarte necaz pe femeia aceea. 6 Dar Isus le-a zis: „Lăsaţi-o în pace. De ce-i faceţi supărare? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos faţă de Mine, 7 căci pe(C) săraci îi aveţi totdeauna cu voi şi le puteţi face bine oricând voiţi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi totdeauna. 8 Ea a făcut ce a putut; Mi-a uns trupul mai dinainte pentru îngropare. 9 Adevărat vă spun că, oriunde va fi propovăduită Evanghelia aceasta, în toată lumea, se va istorisi şi ce a făcut femeia aceasta, spre pomenirea ei.” 10 Iuda(D) Iscarioteanul, unul din cei doisprezece, s-a dus la preoţii cei mai de seamă, ca să le vândă pe Isus. 11 Când au auzit ei lucrul acesta, s-au bucurat şi i-au făgăduit bani. Şi Iuda căuta un prilej nimerit ca să-L dea în mâinile lor.
Prăznuirea Paştelor
12 În(E) ziua dintâi a Praznicului Azimilor, când jertfeau Paştele, ucenicii lui Isus I-au zis:
„Unde voieşti să ne ducem să-Ţi pregătim ca să mănânci Paştele?”
13 El a trimis pe doi din ucenicii Săi şi le-a zis: „Duceţi-vă în cetate. Acolo aveţi să întâlniţi un om ducând un urcior cu apă, mergeţi după el. 14 Unde va intra el, spuneţi stăpânului casei: ‘Învăţătorul zice: «Unde este odaia pentru oaspeţi, în care să mănânc Paştele cu ucenicii Mei?»’ 15 Şi are să vă arate o odaie mare de sus, aşternută gata; acolo să pregătiţi pentru noi.” 16 Ucenicii au plecat, au ajuns în cetate şi au găsit aşa cum le spusese El. Şi au pregătit Paştele. 17 Seara(F), Isus a venit cu cei doisprezece. 18 Pe când şedeau la masă şi mâncau, Isus a zis: „Adevărat vă spun că unul din voi, care mănâncă cu Mine, Mă va vinde”. 19 Ei au început să se întristeze şi să-I zică unul după altul: „Nu cumva sunt eu?” 20 „Este unul din cei doisprezece”, le-a răspuns El, „şi anume cel ce întinge mâna cu Mine în blid. 21 Fiul omului(G), negreşit, Se duce după cum este scris despre El. Dar vai de omul acela prin care este vândut Fiul omului! Mai bine ar fi fost pentru el să nu se fi născut.”
Cina cea de taină
22 Pe când(H) mâncau, Isus a luat o pâine şi, după ce a binecuvântat, a frânt-o şi le-a dat, zicând: „Luaţi, mâncaţi, acesta este trupul Meu.” 23 Apoi a luat un pahar şi, după ce a mulţumit lui Dumnezeu, li l-a dat şi au băut toţi din el. 24 Şi le-a zis: „Acesta este sângele Meu, sângele legământului celui nou, care se varsă pentru mulţi. 25 Adevărat vă spun că, de acum încolo, nu voi mai bea din rodul viţei până în ziua când îl voi bea nou în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.”
Înştiinţarea lui Petru
26 După ce(I) au cântat cântările de laudă, au ieşit în Muntele Măslinilor. 27 Isus(J) le-a zis: „În noaptea aceasta, toţi veţi avea un prilej de poticnire, pentru că este scris: ‘Voi bate(K) Păstorul, şi oile vor fi risipite’. 28 Dar, după(L) ce voi învia, voi merge înaintea voastră în Galileea.” 29 Petru(M) i-a zis: „Chiar dacă toţi ar avea un prilej de poticnire, eu nu voi avea”. 30 Şi Isus i-a zis: „Adevărat îţi spun că astăzi, chiar în noaptea aceasta, înainte ca să cânte cocoşul de două ori, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori”. 31 Dar Petru I-a zis cu şi mai multă tărie: „Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine”. Şi toţi ceilalţi au spus acelaşi lucru.
Ghetsimani
32 S-au(N) dus apoi într-un loc îngrădit, numit Ghetsimani. Şi Isus a zis ucenicilor Săi: „Şedeţi aici până Mă voi ruga”. 33 A luat cu El pe Petru, pe Iacov şi pe Ioan şi a început să Se înspăimânte şi să Se mâhnească foarte tare. 34 El le-a zis: „Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare(O) de moarte; rămâneţi aici şi vegheaţi!” 35 Apoi a mers puţin mai înainte, S-a aruncat la pământ şi Se ruga ca, dacă este cu putinţă, să treacă de la El ceasul acela. 36 El zicea: „Ava(P)– adică ‘Tată’ –, Ţie toate(Q) lucrurile Îţi sunt cu putinţă; depărtează de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuşi(R) facă-se nu ce voiesc Eu, ci ce voieşti Tu.” 37 Şi a venit la ucenici, pe care i-a găsit dormind. Şi a zis lui Petru: „Simone, tu dormi? Un ceas n-ai fost în stare să veghezi? 38 Vegheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită; duhul(S) este plin de râvnă, dar trupul este neputincios.” 39 S-a dus iarăşi şi S-a rugat, zicând aceleaşi cuvinte. 40 Apoi S-a întors din nou şi i-a găsit dormind, pentru că li se îngreunaseră ochii de somn. Ei nu ştiau ce să-I răspundă. 41 În sfârşit, a venit a treia oară şi le-a zis: „Dormiţi de acum şi odihniţi-vă! Destul! A(T) venit ceasul! Iată că Fiul omului este dat în mâinile păcătoşilor. 42 Sculaţi-vă(U); haidem să mergem; iată că se apropie vânzătorul!”
Prinderea lui Isus
43 Şi(V) îndată, pe când vorbea El încă, a venit Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, şi împreună cu el a venit o mulţime de oameni cu săbii şi cu ciomege, trimişi de preoţii cei mai de seamă, de cărturari şi de bătrâni. 44 Vânzătorul le dăduse semnul acesta: „Pe care-L voi săruta, acela este; să-L prindeţi şi să-L duceţi sub pază”. 45 Când a venit Iuda, s-a apropiat îndată de Isus şi I-a zis: „Învăţătorule!” Şi L-a sărutat mult. 46 Atunci, oamenii aceia au pus mâna pe Isus şi L-au prins. 47 Unul din cei ce stăteau lângă El a scos sabia, a lovit pe robul marelui preot şi i-a tăiat urechea. 48 Isus(W) a luat cuvântul şi le-a zis: „Aţi ieşit ca după un tâlhar, cu săbii şi cu ciomege, ca să Mă prindeţi. 49 În toate zilele am fost la voi şi învăţam pe oameni în Templu, şi nu M-aţi prins. Dar toate aceste lucruri s-au întâmplat ca să(X) se împlinească Scripturile.” 50 Atunci(Y), toţi ucenicii L-au părăsit şi au fugit. 51 După El mergea un tânăr care n-avea pe trup decât o învelitoare de pânză de in. Au pus mâna pe el, 52 dar el şi-a lăsat învelitoarea şi a fugit în pielea goală.
Isus osândit de Sinedriu
53 Pe(Z) Isus L-au dus la marele preot, unde s-au adunat toţi preoţii cei mai de seamă, bătrânii şi cărturarii. 54 Petru L-a urmat de departe până în curtea marelui preot, a şezut jos împreună cu aprozii şi se încălzea la para focului. 55 Preoţii(AA) cei mai de seamă şi tot soborul căutau vreo mărturie împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L omoare, dar nu găseau niciuna. 56 Pentru că mulţi făceau mărturisiri mincinoase împotriva Lui, dar mărturisirile lor nu se potriveau. 57 Unii s-au sculat şi au făcut o mărturisire mincinoasă împotriva Lui şi au zis: 58 „Noi L-am auzit zicând: ‘Eu(AB) voi strica Templul acesta, făcut de mâini omeneşti, şi în trei zile voi ridica un altul, care nu va fi făcut de mâini omeneşti’.” 59 Nici chiar în privinţa aceasta nu se potrivea mărturisirea lor. 60 Atunci(AC), marele preot s-a sculat în picioare în mijlocul adunării, a întrebat pe Isus şi I-a zis: „Nu răspunzi nimic? Ce mărturisesc oamenii aceştia împotriva Ta?” 61 Isus(AD) tăcea şi nu răspundea nimic. Marele(AE) preot L-a întrebat iarăşi şi I-a zis: „Eşti Tu, Hristosul, Fiul Celui binecuvântat?” 62 „Da, sunt”, i-a răspuns Isus. „Şi(AF) veţi vedea pe Fiul omului şezând la dreapta puterii şi venind pe norii cerului.” 63 Atunci, marele preot şi-a rupt hainele şi a zis: „Ce nevoie mai avem de martori? 64 Aţi auzit hula. Ce vi se pare?” Toţi L-au osândit să fie pedepsit cu moartea. 65 Şi unii au început să-L scuipe, să-I acopere faţa, să-L bată cu pumnii şi să-I zică: „Proroceşte!” Iar aprozii L-au primit în palme.
Tăgăduirea lui Petru
66 Pe(AG) când stătea Petru jos în curte, a venit una din slujnicele marelui preot. 67 Când a văzut pe Petru încălzindu-se, s-a uitat ţintă la el şi i-a zis: „Şi tu erai cu Isus din Nazaret!” 68 El s-a lepădat şi a zis: „Nu ştiu, nici nu înţeleg ce vrei să zici”. Apoi a ieşit în pridvor. Şi a cântat cocoşul. 69 Când(AH) l-a văzut slujnica, a început iarăşi să spună celor ce stăteau acolo: „Acesta este unul dintre oamenii aceia”. 70 Şi el s-a lepădat din nou. După(AI) puţină vreme, cei ce stăteau acolo au zis iarăşi lui Petru: „Nu mai încape îndoială că eşti unul din oamenii aceia, căci(AJ) eşti galileean şi graiul tău seamănă cu al lor”. 71 Atunci, el a început să se blesteme şi să se jure: „Nu cunosc pe Omul acesta despre care vorbiţi!” 72 Îndată(AK) a cântat cocoşul a doua oară. Şi Petru şi-a adus aminte de vorba, pe care i-o spusese Isus: „Înainte ca să cânte cocoşul de două ori, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori”. Şi, gândindu-se la acest lucru, a început să plângă.

14 (A)Now (B)the Passover and Festival of Unleavened Bread were two days away; and the chief priests and the scribes (C)were seeking how to arrest Him covertly and kill Him; 2 for they were saying, “Not during the festival, otherwise there will be a riot of the people.”
3 (D)While He was in (E)Bethany at the home of Simon [a]the Leper, He was reclining at the table, and a woman came with an alabaster vial of very (F)expensive perfume of pure [b]nard. She broke the vial and poured the perfume over His head. 4 But there were some indignantly remarking to one another, “Why has this perfume been wasted? 5 For this perfume could have been sold for over three hundred [c]denarii, and the money given to the poor.” And they were scolding her. 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone! Why are you bothering her? She has done a good deed for Me. 7 For you always have (G)the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. 8 She has done what she could; (H)she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial. 9 Truly I say to you, (I)wherever the gospel is preached in the entire world, what this woman has done will also be told in memory of her.”
10 (J)Then Judas Iscariot, (K)who was one of the twelve, went off to the chief priests in order to [d]betray Him to them. 11 They were delighted when they heard this, and promised to give him money. And he began seeking how to betray Him at an opportune time.
The Last Passover
12 (L)On the first day of [e](M)Unleavened Bread, when [f]the Passover lamb was being (N)sacrificed, His disciples *said to Him, “Where do You want us to go and prepare for You to eat the Passover?” 13 And He *sent two of His disciples and *said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him; 14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is My (O)guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 15 And he himself will show you a large upstairs room furnished and ready; prepare for us there.” 16 The disciples left and came to the city, and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
17 (P)When it was evening He *came with the twelve. 18 And as they were reclining at the table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you that one of you will [g]betray Me—[h]one who is eating with Me.” 19 They began to be grieved and to say to Him one by one, “Surely not I?” 20 But He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, the one who dips bread with Me in the bowl. 21 For the Son of Man is going away just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man [i]by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good [j]for that man if he had not been born.”
The Lord’s Supper
22 (Q)While they were eating, He took some bread, and [k]after a (R)blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My (S)blood of the (T)covenant, which is being poured out for many. 25 Truly I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine again, until that day when I drink it, new, in the kingdom of God.”
26 (U)And after singing a [l]hymn, they went out to (V)the Mount of Olives.
27 (W)And Jesus *said to them, “You will all [m]fall away, because it is written: ‘(X)I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ 28 But after I am raised, (Y)I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” 29 But Peter said to Him, “Even if they all [n]fall away, yet I will not!” 30 And Jesus *said to him, “Truly I say to you, that [o](Z)this very night, before (AA)a rooster crows twice, you yourself will deny Me three times.” 31 But [p]Peter repeatedly said insistently, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing as well.

32 (AB)They *came to a place named [q]Gethsemane; and He *said to His disciples, “Sit here until I have prayed.” 33 And He *took with Him Peter, [r]James, and John, and began to be very (AC)distressed and troubled. 34 And He *said to them, “(AD)My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and [s]keep watch.” 35 And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began praying that if it were possible, (AE)the hour might [t]pass Him by. 36 And He was saying, “(AF)Abba! [u]Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; (AG)yet not what I will, but what You will.” 37 And He *came and *found them sleeping, and *said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Could you not [v]keep watch for one hour? 38 [w](AH)Keep watching and praying, so that you will not come into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” 39 And again He went away and prayed, saying the same [x]words. 40 And again He came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to say in reply to Him. 41 And He *came the third time, and *said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? That is enough. (AI)The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being [y]betrayed into the hands of sinners. 42 Get up, let’s go; behold, the one who is betraying Me is near!”
Betrayal and Arrest
43 (AJ)And immediately, while He was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, *came up, [z]accompanied by a crowd with swords and clubs who were from the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders. 44 Now he who was betraying Him had given them a signal, saying, “Whomever I kiss, He is the one; arrest Him and lead Him away [aa]under guard.” 45 And after coming, Judas immediately went to Him and *said, “(AK)Rabbi!” and kissed Him. 46 And they laid hands on Him and arrested Him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword, and struck the slave of the high priest and [ab]cut off his ear. 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest Me, as you would against a man inciting a revolt? 49 Every day I was with you (AL)within the temple grounds teaching, and you did not arrest Me; but this has taken place so that the Scriptures will be fulfilled.” 50 And [ac]His disciples all left Him and fled.
51 A young man was following Him, wearing nothing but a linen sheet over his naked body; and they *seized him. 52 But he [ad]pulled free of the linen sheet and escaped naked.
Jesus before His Accusers
53 (AM)They led Jesus away to the high priest; and all the chief priests, the elders, and the scribes *gathered together. 54 And Peter had followed Him at a distance, (AN)right into (AO)the courtyard of the high priest; and he was sitting with the [ae]officers and (AP)warming himself at the [af]fire. 55 Now the chief priests and the entire [ag](AQ)Council were trying to obtain testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, and they were not finding any. 56 For many people were giving false testimony against Him, and so their testimonies were not consistent. 57 And then some stood up and began giving false testimony against Him, saying, 58 “We heard Him say, ‘(AR)I will destroy this [ah]temple that was made by hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.’” 59 And not even in this respect was their testimony consistent. 60 And then the high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, “Do You not offer any answer for what these men are testifying against You?” 61 (AS)But He kept silent and did not offer any answer. (AT)Again the high priest was questioning Him, and *said to Him, “Are You the [ai]Christ, the Son of [aj]the Blessed One?” 62 And Jesus said, “I am; and you shall see (AU)the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and (AV)coming with the clouds of heaven.” 63 (AW)Tearing his clothes, the high priest *said, “What further need do we have of witnesses? 64 You have heard the (AX)blasphemy; how does it seem to you?” And they all condemned Him as deserving of death. 65 And some began to (AY)spit on Him, and [ak](AZ)to blindfold Him, and to beat Him with their fists and say to Him, “(BA)Prophesy!” Then the officers took custody of Him [al]and slapped Him in the face.
Peter’s Denials
66 (BB)And while Peter was below in (BC)the courtyard, one of the slave women of the high priest *came, 67 and seeing Peter (BD)warming himself, she looked at him and *said, “You were with Jesus the (BE)Nazarene as well.” 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you are talking about.” And he (BF)went out onto the [am]porch.[an] 69 The slave woman saw him, and began once more to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them!” 70 But again (BG)he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders were again saying to Peter, “You really are one of them, (BH)for you are a Galilean as well.” 71 But he began to [ao]curse himself and to swear, “I do not know this Man of whom you speak!” 72 And immediately a rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had made the remark to him, “Before (BI)a rooster crows twice, you will deny Me three times.” And [ap]he hurried on and began to weep.
