The Story of the Renters
12 Jesus began to speak to the people using stories. He said, “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it. He dug a pit for a winepress. He also built a lookout tower. He rented the vineyard out to some farmers. Then he went to another place. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the renters. He told the servant to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 But they grabbed the servant and beat him up. Then they sent him away with nothing. 4 So the man sent another servant to the renters. They hit this one on the head and treated him badly. 5 The man sent still another servant. The renters killed him. The man sent many others. The renters beat up some of them. They killed the others.
6 “The man had one person left to send. It was his son, and he loved him. He sent him last of all. He said, ‘They will respect my son.’
7 “But the renters said to each other, ‘This is the one who will receive all the owner’s property someday. Come, let’s kill him. Then everything will be ours.’ 8 So they took him and killed him. They threw him out of the vineyard.
9 “What will the owner of the vineyard do then? He will come and kill those renters. He will give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven’t you read what this part of Scripture says,
“ ‘The stone the builders didn’t accept
has become the most important stone of all.
11 The Lord has done it.
It is wonderful in our eyes’?” (Psalm 118:22,23)
12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest Jesus. They knew he had told the story against them. But they were afraid of the crowd. So they left him and went away.
Is It Right to Pay the Royal Tax to Caesar?
13 Later the religious leaders sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus. They wanted to trap him with his own words. 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of honor. You don’t let other people tell you what to do or say. You don’t care how important they are. But you teach the way of God truthfully. Is it right to pay the royal tax to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”
But Jesus knew what they were trying to do. So he asked, “Why are you trying to trap me? Bring me a silver coin. Let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin. He asked them, “Whose picture is this? And whose words?”
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar. And give back to God what belongs to God.”
They were amazed at him.
Marriage When the Dead Rise
18 The Sadducees came to Jesus with a question. They do not believe that people rise from the dead. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us about a man who died and didn’t have any children. But he did leave a wife behind. That man’s brother must get married to the widow. He must provide children to carry on his dead brother’s name. 20 There were seven brothers. The first one got married. He died without leaving any children. 21 The second one got married to the widow. He also died and left no child. It was the same with the third one. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 When the dead rise, whose wife will she be? All seven of them were married to her.”
24 Jesus replied, “You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures. And you do not know the power of God. 25 When the dead rise, they won’t get married. And their parents won’t give them to be married. They will be like the angels in heaven. 26 What about the dead rising? Haven’t you read in the Book of Moses the story of the burning bush? God said to Moses, ‘I am the God of Abraham. I am the God of Isaac. And I am the God of Jacob.’ (Exodus 3:6) 27 He is not the God of the dead. He is the God of the living. You have made a big mistake!”
The Most Important Commandment
28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard the Sadducees arguing. He noticed that Jesus had given the Sadducees a good answer. So he asked him, “Which is the most important of all the commandments?”
29 Jesus answered, “Here is the most important one. Moses said, ‘Israel, listen to me. The Lord is our God. The Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind and with all your strength.’ (Deuteronomy 6:4,5) 31 And here is the second one. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ (Leviticus 19:18) There is no commandment more important than these.”
32 “You have spoken well, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one. There is no other God but him. 33 To love God with all your heart and mind and strength is very important. So is loving your neighbor as you love yourself. These things are more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 Jesus saw that the man had answered wisely. He said to him, “You are not far from God’s kingdom.” From then on, no one dared to ask Jesus any more questions.
Whose Son Is the Messiah?
35 Jesus was teaching in the temple courtyard. He asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David? 36 The Holy Spirit spoke through David himself. David said,
“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your control.” ’ (Psalm 110:1)
37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ So how can he be David’s son?”
The large crowd listened to Jesus with delight.
Warning Against the Teachers of the Law
38 As he taught, he said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in long robes. They like to be greeted with respect in the market. 39 They love to have the most important seats in the synagogues. They also love to have the places of honor at dinners. 40 They take over the houses of widows. They say long prayers to show off. God will punish these men very much.”
The Widow’s Offering
41 Jesus sat down across from the place where people put their temple offerings. He watched the crowd putting their money into the offering boxes. Many rich people threw large amounts into them. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins. They were worth only a few pennies.
43 Jesus asked his disciples to come to him. He said, “What I’m about to tell you is true. That poor widow has put more into the offering box than all the others. 44 They all gave a lot because they are rich. But she gave even though she is poor. She put in everything she had. That was all she had to live on.”

12 Ngài bắt đầu dùng ngụ ngôn nói với họ, “Một người kia trồng một vườn nho, dựng hàng rào chung quanh, đào một hầm ép rượu, và xây một tháp canh. Ðoạn người ấy cho các tá điền thuê vườn nho đó, rồi đi phương xa. 2 Ðến mùa thu hoạch, người ấy sai một đầy tớ đến gặp các tá điền để thu nhận hoa lợi của vườn nho mình. 3 Nhưng các tá điền túm lấy người đầy tớ ấy, đánh người ấy, rồi đuổi người ấy về tay không. 4 Chủ điền lại sai một đầy tớ khác. Chúng đập đầu người ấy và làm nhục người ấy. 5 Sau đó ông lại sai một đầy tớ khác nữa, nhưng chúng giết người ấy; và đối với các đầy tớ khác được sai đến, chúng đều đối xử như vậy, kẻ thì chúng đánh, người thì chúng giết. 6 Ông còn một người nữa, đó là con trai yêu dấu của ông. Cuối cùng ông sai con trai ông đến gặp họ; ông tự nhủ, ‘Họ sẽ nể con ta.’ 7 Nhưng các tá điền đó nói với nhau, ‘Con thừa kế đây rồi. Hãy đến, chúng ta hãy giết nó đi, như vậy sản nghiệp của nó sẽ thuộc về chúng ta.’ 8 Thế là chúng bắt lấy con trai của chủ, giết đi, rồi ném xác ra ngoài vườn nho. 9 Khi ấy chủ của vườn nho sẽ làm gì? 13 Sau đó họ sai một số người Pha-ri-si và một số người của Hê-rốt đến gài bẫy để Ðức Chúa Jesus lỡ lời. 14 Họ đến với Ngài và nói, “Thưa Thầy, chúng tôi biết Thầy là người chân thật và không thiên vị ai, vì Thầy không cả nể ai, nhưng cứ theo chân lý dạy dỗ đường lối của Ðức Chúa Trời. Có nên nộp thuế cho Sê-sa không? Chúng tôi nên nộp hay không nên nộp?”
15 Nhưng khi thấy vẻ đạo đức giả của họ, Ngài nói với họ, “Tại sao các ngươi muốn thử Ta? Hãy đem cho Ta xem một đồng tiền.”[a]
16 Họ đem cho Ngài một đồng tiền. Ngài hỏi họ, “Hình ảnh và danh hiệu này của ai?”
Họ trả lời Ngài, “Của Sê-sa.”
17 Ðức Chúa Jesus nói với họ, “Hãy trả cho Sê-sa những gì của Sê-sa, và hãy trả cho Ðức Chúa Trời những gì của Ðức Chúa Trời.” Họ đều sững sờ về câu trả lời của Ngài.
Sự Sống Lại của Người Chết

18 Những người Sa-đu-sê, những người nói rằng không có sự sống lại, đến gặp Ngài và hỏi, 19 “Thưa Thầy, Môi-se đã viết cho chúng ta rằng nếu anh hoặc em trai của ai qua đời, để lại vợ góa mà không con nối dõi, thì em trai hoặc anh của người ấy phải lấy người vợ góa để sinh con cho người quá cố, hầu lưu truyền dòng giống của anh hoặc em mình. 20 Có bảy anh em trai kia. 24 Ðức Chúa Jesus nói với họ, “Há chẳng phải các ngươi sai lầm vì các ngươi không hiểu Kinh Thánh và quyền năng của Ðức Chúa Trời sao? 25 Vì khi từ cõi chết sống lại người ta sẽ không cưới không gả, nhưng sẽ như các thiên sứ trên trời. 26 Còn về sự sống lại của người chết, các ngươi chưa đọc trong sách của Môi-se, thể nào Ðức Chúa Trời đã phán với ông ấy qua bụi gai cháy rằng, ‘Ta là Ðức Chúa Trời của Áp-ra-ham, Ðức Chúa Trời của I-sác, và Ðức Chúa Trời của Gia-cốp’
Ðiều Răn Lớn Nhất
(Mat 22:34-40; Lu 10:25-28)
28 Một trong các thầy dạy giáo luật đến gần để nghe họ tranh luận. Khi thấy Ngài đối đáp quá hay, ông hỏi Ngài, “Thưa Thầy, điều răn nào là lớn hơn hết?”
29 Ðức Chúa Jesus đáp, “Ðiều răn lớn nhất là, ‘Hãy nghe đây, hỡi I-sơ-ra-ên: Chúa, Ðức Chúa Trời chúng ta, là Chúa có một không hai. 30 Ngươi phải hết lòng, hết linh hồn, hết trí, và hết sức yêu kính Chúa, Ðức Chúa Trời của ngươi.’ 31 Còn đây là điều răn thứ hai, ‘Ngươi phải yêu người lân cận như mình.’ Chẳng có điều răn nào lớn hơn hai điều răn đó.”
32 Thầy dạy giáo luật đó nói với Ngài, “Thưa Thầy, Thầy nói rất đúng. ‘Ðức Chúa Trời là Ðấng độc nhất vô nhị; ngoài Ngài, không có Ðấng nào khác,’ 33 và ‘yêu kính Chúa hết lòng, hết trí, và hết sức,’ cùng ‘thương người lân cận như mình’ thật quan trọng hơn mọi của lễ thiêu và các của lễ khác.”
34 Khi Ðức Chúa Jesus thấy người ấy trả lời cách khôn ngoan, Ngài bảo, “Ngươi không xa vương quốc Ðức Chúa Trời đâu.” Sau đó không ai dám chất vấn Ngài điều gì nữa.
Liên Hệ Giữa Chúa và Vua Ða-vít
(Mat 22:41-46; Lu 20:41-44)
35 Khi Ðức Chúa Jesus đang giảng dạy trong đền thờ, Ngài hỏi, “Làm thể nào các thầy dạy giáo luật bảo rằng Ðấng Christ là Con của Ða-vít? 36 Chính Ða-vít đã được Ðức Thánh Linh cảm thúc và nói,
‘Chúa phán với Chúa của tôi,
“Con hãy ngồi bên phải Ta cho đến khi Ta đặt những kẻ thù của Con làm bệ chân Con.”
37 Vậy nếu chính Ða-vít đã gọi Ngài là ‘Chúa,’ thì thể nào Ngài là Con của Ða-vít được?”
Ðoàn dân đông lấy làm thích thú lắng nghe Ngài.
Chúa Quở Trách Các Thầy Dạy Giáo Luật

38 Trong lúc giảng dạy, Ngài nói, “Các ngươi hãy coi chừng những thầy dạy giáo luật, những người thích đi dạo trong chiếc áo dài lụng thụng, muốn được chào hỏi kính cẩn giữa chợ, 39 luôn giành những chỗ ngồi tôn trọng nhất trong các hội đường, và thích ngồi ở bàn danh dự trong các đám tiệc. 40 Họ nuốt nhà các bà góa, nhưng lúc nào cũng làm ra vẻ đạo mạo bằng những bài cầu nguyện dài lê thê. Những người ấy sẽ nhận bản án nặng nề hơn.”

The Parable of the Tenants(A)
12 Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard.(B) He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place. 2 At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenants to collect from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 But they seized him, beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 Then he sent another servant to them; they struck this man on the head and treated him shamefully. 5 He sent still another, and that one they killed. He sent many others; some of them they beat, others they killed.
6 “He had one left to send, a son, whom he loved. He sent him last of all,(C) saying, ‘They will respect my son.’
7 “But the tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8 So they took him and killed him, and threw him out of the vineyard.
9 “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and kill those tenants and give the vineyard to others. 10 Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture:
“‘The stone the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;(D)
11 the Lord has done this,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’[a]?”(E)
12 Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd;(F) so they left him and went away.(G)
Paying the Imperial Tax to Caesar(H)
13 Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians(I) to Jesus to catch him(J) in his words. 14 They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax[b] to Caesar or not? 15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?”
But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”
“Caesar’s,” they replied.
17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”(K)
And they were amazed at him.
Marriage at the Resurrection(L)
18 Then the Sadducees,(M) who say there is no resurrection,(N) came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.(O) 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures(P) or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.(Q) 26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’[d]?(R) 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
The Greatest Commandment(S)
28 One of the teachers of the law(T) came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”
29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[f](U) 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[g](V) There is no commandment greater than these.”
32 “Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.(W) 33 To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”(X)
34 When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.”(Y) And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.(Z)
Whose Son Is the Messiah?(AA)(AB)
35 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts,(AC) he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?(AD) 36 David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit,(AE) declared:
37 David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?”
The large crowd(AG) listened to him with delight.
Warning Against the Teachers of the Law
38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets.(AH) 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.”
The Widow’s Offering(AI)
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put(AJ) and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”(AK)
