3 犹大是法勒斯和谢拉的父亲，
他玛是法勒斯和谢拉的母亲，
法勒斯是希斯仑的父亲，
希斯仑是亚兰的父亲，
4 亚兰是亚米拿达的父亲，
亚米拿达是拿顺的父亲，
拿顺是撒门的父亲，
5 撒门是波阿斯的父亲，
波阿斯的母亲是喇合，
波阿斯是俄备得的父亲，
俄备得的母亲是路得，
俄备得是耶西的父亲，
6 耶西是大卫王的父亲，
大卫王是所罗门的父亲，
（所罗门的母亲曾经是乌利亚的妻子。）
7 所罗门是罗波安的父亲，

11 约西亚是耶哥尼雅及其兄弟们的父亲，
（此时以色列人被驱逐到了巴比伦。）
12 被驱逐到巴比伦以后，
耶哥尼雅做了撒拉铁的父亲，
撒拉铁是所罗巴伯的父亲，
13 所罗巴伯是亚比玉的父亲，
亚比玉是以利亚敬的父亲，
以利亚敬是亚所的父亲，
14 亚所是撒督的父亲，
撒督是亚金的父亲，

15 以律是以利亚撒的父亲，
以利亚撒是马但的父亲，
马但是雅各的父亲，
16 雅各是约瑟的父亲，
约瑟是马利亚的丈夫，

耶稣被人们称为弥赛亚
—即基督。
17 总而言之，从亚伯拉罕到大卫共十四代，从大卫到以色列人被驱逐到巴比伦为止，也是十四代，从定居巴比伦到基督出生，又是十四代。

17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.
