傳統與誡命
15 有幾個法利賽人和律法教師從耶路撒冷來質問耶穌： 2 「為什麼你的門徒吃飯前不行洗手禮，破壞祖先的傳統呢？」
3 耶穌回答說：「為什麼你們拘守傳統而違背上帝的誡命呢？ 4 上帝說，『要孝敬父母』，又說，『咒罵父母的，必被處死。』 5 你們卻說，『人如果把供養父母的錢奉獻給上帝， 6 他就不必供養父母。』你們這是用傳統來廢掉上帝的誡命。 7 你們這些偽君子，以賽亞指著你們說的預言一點沒錯，
8 『這些人嘴上尊崇我，
心卻遠離我，
9 他們的教導無非是人的規條，
他們敬拜我也是枉然。』」
10 耶穌召集了眾人，對他們說：「你們要聽，也要明白。 11 入口的東西不會使人污穢，從口中出來的才會使人污穢。」
12 門徒上前對祂說：「你知道嗎？法利賽人聽見你的話很反感。」
13 耶穌回答說：「凡不是我天父栽種的都要被連根拔起來。 14 隨便他們吧！他們是瞎眼的嚮導。瞎子給瞎子領路，二人都會掉進坑裡。」
15 彼得對耶穌說：「請給我們解釋一下這個比喻。」
16 耶穌說：「你們還不明白嗎？ 17 豈不知入口的東西都是進到肚子裡，然後排泄到廁所裡嗎？ 18 可是，從口中出來的乃是發自內心，會使人污穢。 19 因為從心裡出來的有惡念、謀殺、通姦、淫亂、偷盜、假見證和毀謗， 20 這些東西才使人污穢。不洗手吃飯並不會使人污穢。」
迦南婦人的信心
21 耶穌從那裡退到泰爾和西頓境內。 22 那地方有個迦南的婦人前來大聲懇求耶穌：「主啊！大衛的後裔啊！可憐我吧！我的女兒被鬼附身，受盡折磨！」 23 耶穌卻一言不發。門徒上前求祂說：「請讓她走吧！她老是在後面喊叫。」
24 耶穌說：「我奉差遣只是來尋找以色列家迷失的羊。」
25 那婦人上前跪下，說：「主啊！求你幫幫我吧！」
26 耶穌答道：「把兒女的食物丟給狗吃，不合適。」
27 婦人說：「主啊，沒錯，可是狗也吃主人飯桌上掉下來的碎渣呀！」
28 耶穌說：「婦人，你的信心真大！我答應你的要求。」就在那一刻，她女兒就好了。
耶穌使四千人吃飽
29 耶穌離開那裡，來到加利利湖邊，上了山，在那裡坐下。 30 大群的人把瘸子、瞎子、殘疾的、啞巴及許多別的病人帶來，放在祂腳前，祂就治好了他們。 31 大家看見啞巴說話，殘疾的復原，瘸子走路，瞎子看見，都很驚奇，就讚美以色列的上帝。
32 耶穌把門徒召集過來，對他們說：「我憐憫這些人，他們跟我在一起已經三天，沒有任何吃的。我不願讓他們餓著肚子回去，以免他們在路上體力不支。」
33 門徒說：「在這荒野，我們到哪裡找足夠的食物給這麼多人吃呢？」
34 耶穌問：「你們有多少餅？」
門徒答道：「七個，還有幾條小魚。」
35 耶穌便吩咐大家坐在地上。 36 祂拿著那七個餅和幾條魚祝謝後，掰開，遞給門徒，門徒再分給大家。 37 大家都吃了，並且吃飽了，剩下的零碎裝滿了七個筐子。 38 當時吃飯的，除了婦女和小孩，共有四千男人。 39 隨後，耶穌叫眾人散去，自己坐船去了馬加丹地區。

The Tradition of the Elders
15 Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, 2 ‘Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands before they eat.’ 3 He answered them, ‘And why do you break the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said,[a] “Honour your father and your mother,” and, “Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must surely die.” 5 But you say that whoever tells father or mother, “Whatever support you might have had from me is given to God”,[b] then that person need not honour the father.[c] 6 So, for the sake of your tradition, you make void the word[d] of God. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied rightly about you when he said:
8 “This people honours me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me;
9 in vain do they worship me,
teaching human precepts as doctrines.”’
Things That Defile
10 Then he called the crowd to him and said to them, ‘Listen and understand: 11 it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but it is what comes out of the mouth that defiles.’ 12 Then the disciples approached and said to him, ‘Do you know that the Pharisees took offence when they heard what you said?’ 13 He answered, ‘Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind.[e] And if one blind person guides another, both will fall into a pit.’ 15 But Peter said to him, ‘Explain this parable to us.’ 16 Then he said, ‘Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth enters the stomach, and goes out into the sewer? 18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this is what defiles. 19 For out of the heart come evil intentions, murder, adultery, fornication, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile.’
The Canaanite Woman’s Faith
21 Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 22 Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, ‘Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon.’ 23 But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, ‘Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us.’ 24 He answered, ‘I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.’ 25 But she came and knelt before him, saying, ‘Lord, help me.’ 26 He answered, ‘It is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the dogs.’ 27 She said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.’ 28 Then Jesus answered her, ‘Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.’ And her daughter was healed instantly.
Jesus Cures Many People
29 After Jesus had left that place, he passed along the Sea of Galilee, and he went up the mountain, where he sat down. 30 Great crowds came to him, bringing with them the lame, the maimed, the blind, the mute, and many others. They put them at his feet, and he cured them, 31 so that the crowd was amazed when they saw the mute speaking, the maimed whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they praised the God of Israel.
Feeding the Four Thousand
32 Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, ‘I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat; and I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way.’ 33 The disciples said to him, ‘Where are we to get enough bread in the desert to feed so great a crowd?’ 34 Jesus asked them, ‘How many loaves have you?’ They said, ‘Seven, and a few small fish.’ 35 Then ordering the crowd to sit down on the ground, 36 he took the seven loaves and the fish; and after giving thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 37 And all of them ate and were filled; and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. 38 Those who had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 After sending away the crowds, he got into the boat and went to the region of Magadan.[f]

15 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, who were from Jerusalem, saying,
2 “Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they wash not their hands when they eat bread.”
3 But He answered and said unto them, “Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
4 For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor thy father and mother,’ and, ‘He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.’
5 But ye say that whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, ‘by whatsoever thou might have profited by me, it is a gift,’
6 and honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
7 Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
8 ‘This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoreth Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.
9 But in vain they do worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.’”
10 And He called the multitude and said unto them, “Hear and understand:
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man, but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.”
12 Then came His disciples and said unto Him, “Knowest Thou that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying?”
13 But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up.
14 Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”
15 Then answered Peter and said unto Him, “Explain to us this parable.”
16 And Jesus said, “Are ye also yet without understanding?
17 Do ye not yet understand that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the drain?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
20 these are the things which defile a man. But to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man.”
21 Then Jesus went thence and departed into the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same region and cried unto Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Thou Son of David! My daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.”
23 But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and besought Him, saying, “Send her away, for she crieth after us.”
24 But He answered and said, “I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord help me.”
26 But He answered and said, “It is not meet to take children’s bread and cast it to dogs.”
27 And she said, “Truth, Lord; yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, “O woman, great is thy faith. Be it unto thee even as thou wilt.” And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
29 And Jesus departed from thence and came nigh unto the Sea of Galilee, and went up onto a mountain and sat down there.
30 And great multitudes came unto Him, having with them those who were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them,
31 insomuch that the multitude wondered when they saw the dumb to speak, and the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see. And they glorified the God of Israel.
32 Then Jesus called His disciples unto Him and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with Me now three days and have had nothing to eat; and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint on the way.”
33 And His disciples said unto Him, “From whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness as to fill so great a multitude?”
34 And Jesus said unto them, “How many loaves have ye?” And they said, “Seven, and a few little fishes.”
35 And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 And He took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and broke them and gave to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
37 And they all ate and were filled. And they took up of the broken pieces that were left, seven baskets full.
38 And those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.
39 And He sent away the multitude, and took the boat and went into the coasts of Magdala.
