12 那時，耶穌在安息日從麥田經過。他的門徒餓了，就摘麥穗來吃。 2 法利賽人看見，對耶穌說：「看哪，你的門徒在安息日做不合法的事了。」 3 耶穌對他們說：「大衛和跟從他的人飢餓時所做的事，你們沒有念過嗎？ 4 他怎麼進了 神的居所，吃了供餅呢？這餅是他和跟從他的人不可以吃的，惟獨祭司才可以吃。 5 再者，律法上所記的，在安息日，祭司在聖殿裏犯了安息日也不算有罪，你們沒有念過嗎？ 6 但我告訴你們，比聖殿更大的在這裏。 7 『我喜愛憐憫，不喜愛祭祀。』你們若明白這話的意思，就不將無罪的當作有罪了。 8 因為人子是安息日的主。」
治好萎縮了的手(B)
9 耶穌離開那地方，進了猶太人的會堂； 10 那裏有個一隻手萎縮了的人。有人為了要控告耶穌，就問他：「安息日治病合不合法？」 11 耶穌對他們說：「你們中間誰有一隻羊在安息日掉在坑裏，不抓住牠，把牠拉上來呢？ 12 人比羊貴重得多了！所以，在安息日做善事是合法的。」 13 於是對那人說：「伸出手來！」他把手一伸，手就復原了，和另一隻一樣。 14 法利賽人出去，商議怎樣除掉耶穌。
神所揀選的僕人
15 耶穌知道了，就離開那裏，有一大羣人跟着他。他把所有的病人都治好了， 16 又囑咐他們不要把他宣揚出去。 17 這是要應驗以賽亞先知所說的話：
18 「看哪，我所揀選的僕人，
我所親愛，心所喜悅的；
我要將我的靈賜給他，
他必將公理傳給外邦。
19 他不爭吵，不喧嚷，
街上也沒有人聽見他的聲音。
20 壓傷的蘆葦，他不折斷，
將殘的燈火，他不吹滅，
直到他使公理得勝。
21 外邦人都要仰望他的名。」
誣蔑耶穌為別西卜(C)
22 當時，有人把一個被鬼附，又盲又啞的人帶到耶穌那裏，耶穌醫治他，那啞巴就能說話，又能看見。 23 眾人都驚奇，說：「這不是大衛之子嗎？」 24 但法利賽人聽見，就說：「這個人趕鬼，無非是靠着鬼王別西卜罷了。」 25 耶穌知道他們的心思，就對他們說：「一國自相紛爭，必定荒蕪；一城一家自相紛爭，必立不住。 26 若撒但趕出撒但，就是自相紛爭，他的國怎能立得住呢？ 27 我若靠着別西卜趕鬼，你們的子弟趕鬼又靠着誰呢？這樣，他們要作你們的判官。 28 我若靠着 神的靈趕鬼，那麼， 神的國就已臨到你們了。 29 人怎能進壯士家裏搶奪他的東西呢？除非先綁住那壯士，否則無法搶奪他的家。 30 不跟我一起的，就是反對我；不與我一起收聚的，就是在拆散。 31 所以我告訴你們，人一切的罪和褻瀆的話都可得赦免，但是褻瀆聖靈，總不得赦免。 32 凡說話干犯人子的，還可得赦免；但是說話干犯聖靈的，今世來世總不得赦免。」

33 「你們知道樹好，果子也好；又知道樹壞，果子也壞；因為看果子就可以知道樹。 34 毒蛇的孽種啊，你們既是惡人，怎能說出好話來呢？因為心裏所充滿的，口裏就說出來。 35 善人從他所存的善發出善來；惡人從他所存的惡發出惡來。 36 我告訴你們，凡是人所說的閒話，在審判的日子，要句句供出來； 37 因為要憑你的話定你為義，也要憑你的話定你有罪。」
求神蹟(E)
38 當時，有幾個文士和法利賽人對耶穌說：「老師，我們想請你顯個神蹟給我們看看。」 39 耶穌回答他們：「邪惡淫亂的世代求看神蹟，除了先知約拿的神蹟以外，再沒有神蹟給他們看了。 40 約拿三日三夜在大魚肚腹中，同樣，人子也要三日三夜在地裏面。 41 在審判的時候，尼尼微人要起來定這世代的罪，因為尼尼微人聽了約拿所傳的就悔改了。看哪，比約拿更大的在這裏！ 42 在審判的時候，南方的女王要起來定這世代的罪，因為她從地極而來，要聽所羅門智慧的話。看哪，比所羅門更大的在這裏！」

43 「污靈離了人身，走遍無水之地尋找安歇之處，卻找不到。 44 於是他說：『我要回到我原來的屋裏去。』他到了，看見裏面空着，打掃乾淨，修飾好了， 45 就去另帶了七個比自己更惡的靈來，都進去住在那裏。那人後來的景況比先前更壞了。這邪惡的世代也要如此。」
遵父旨意的人都是親屬(G)
46 耶穌還在對眾人說話的時候，不料，他母親和他兄弟站在外邊想要跟他說話。 47 有人告訴他：「看哪！你母親和你兄弟站在外邊，想要跟你說話。」[a] 48 他卻回答那對他說話的人，說：「誰是我的母親？誰是我的兄弟？」 49 於是他伸手指着門徒，說：「看哪，我的母親，我的兄弟！ 50 凡遵行我天父旨意的人就是我的兄弟、姊妹和母親。」

Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(A)
12 At that time Jesus was walking through some fields of grain on a Sabbath day. His ·followers [disciples] were hungry, so they began to pick the grain and eat it [Deut. 23:25]. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to Jesus, “Look! Your ·followers [disciples] are doing what is ·unlawful to do [forbidden] on the Sabbath day.” [C Gleaning was viewed as work, and therefore forbidden on the Sabbath; Ex. 34:21.]
3 Jesus answered, “Have you not read what David did when he and ·the people with him [his companions] were hungry? 4 He went into God’s house, and he and ·those with him [his companions] ate the ·holy bread [consecrated bread; L bread of presentation], which was ·lawful [allowed] only for priests to eat [Ex. 25:30; Lev. 24:5–9]. 5 And have you not read in the ·law of Moses [L Law] that on every Sabbath day the priests in the Temple ·break this law about [violate; desecrate; profane] the Sabbath day [C by working when they offer sacrifices]? But the priests are ·not wrong for doing that [L innocent; not guilty]. 6 I tell you that there is ·something [or someone; C may refer to Jesus himself or to the arrival of the kingdom] here that is greater than the Temple. 7 The Scripture says, ‘I want ·kindness more than I want animal sacrifices [L mercy and not sacrifice; Hos. 6:6].’ If you ·understood [had known] what these words mean, you would not have ·judged those who have done nothing wrong [condemned the innocent/guiltless].
8 “·So [For] the Son of Man is ·Lord [Master] of the Sabbath day.”
Jesus Heals a Man’s Hand(B)
9 Jesus left there and went into their synagogue, 10 ·where [L and look/T behold] there was a man with a ·crippled [paralyzed; deformed; shriveled] hand. They were looking for a reason to ·accuse [bring charges against] Jesus, so they asked him, “Is it ·right [lawful] to ·heal [cure] on the Sabbath day?”
11 Jesus answered, “If any of you has a sheep, and it falls into a ·ditch [pit; hole] on the Sabbath day, ·you will [would you not…?] ·help [L grab it and lift] it out of the ditch. 12 ·Surely a human being is more important [L How much better is a person] than a sheep. So it is ·lawful [permitted] to do ·good things [good] on the Sabbath day.”
13 Then Jesus said to the man, “·Hold [Stretch] out your hand.” The man ·held [stretched] out his hand, and it ·became well again [was restored], ·like [L as healthy as] the other hand. 14 But the Pharisees left and ·made plans [plotted; conspired] to ·kill [destroy] Jesus.
Jesus Is God’s Chosen Servant(C)
15 Jesus knew ·what the Pharisees were doing [L this], so he left that place. ·Many people [Large crowds] followed him, and he healed all who were sick. 16 But Jesus warned the people not to ·tell who he was [make him known]. 17 He did these things to ·bring about [fulfill] what Isaiah the prophet had said:
18 “·Here is [L Behold; Look!] my servant whom I have chosen.
·I love him [The one I love; My beloved], ·and I am pleased with him [L in whom my soul delights/is well pleased].
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will ·tell of my [proclaim] justice to ·all people [the nations/Gentiles].
19 He will not ·argue [quarrel; fight] or ·cry out [shout];
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 He will not break a ·crushed blade of grass [battered/bruised reed]
or ·put out [extinguish] ·even a weak flame [a flickering candle; L a smoldering wick]
until he ·makes justice win the [leads justice to] victory.
21 In ·him [L his name] will the ·Gentiles [nations; non-Jewish people] ·find [put their] hope [Is. 42:1–4].”
Jesus’ Power Is from God(D)
22 Then some people brought to Jesus a man who was blind and ·could not talk [mute], because he ·had a demon [was demon-possessed/demonized]. Jesus healed the man so that he could talk and see. 23 All the people were amazed and said, “Perhaps this man is the Son of David [C a title for the Messiah, a descendant of King David; 2 Sam. 7:11–16]!”
24 When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “This man uses the power of Beelzebul [C another name for Satan], the ruler of demons, to ·force [drive; cast] demons out of people.”
25 Jesus knew what the Pharisees were thinking, so he said to them, “Every kingdom that is ·divided against [at war with] itself ·will be destroyed [is doomed/headed for ruin]. And any city or ·family [L house] that is ·divided against [at war with] itself will not ·continue [survive; stand]. 26 And if Satan ·forces out himself [L drives/casts out Satan], then Satan is ·divided against [at war with] himself, and ·his kingdom will not continue [L how will his kingdom stand?]. 27 You say that I use the power of Beelzebul [v. 24] to ·force [drive; cast] out demons. If that is true, then what power do your ·people [own exorcists; followers; L sons] use to ·force [drive; force] out demons? So they will be your judges. 28 But if I use the power of God’s Spirit to ·force [drive; cast] out demons, then the kingdom of God has ·come to you [arrived among you; or overtaken you; caught you unaware].
29 “·If anyone wants to [L Or how can anyone…?] enter a strong person’s house and ·steal [seize; plunder] his things, he must first ·tie up [bind] the strong person. Then he can ·steal [seize; plunder] the things from the house. [C Satan is the strong man and his possessions are the people Jesus is freeing from Satan’s power.]
The Sin Against the Holy Spirit(E)
30 “Whoever is not with me is against me. Whoever does not ·work [gather] with me ·is working against me [scatters; C probably a reference to gathering or scattering a flock; John 10:12]. 31 So I tell you, people can be forgiven for every sin and ·everything they say against God [blasphemy]. But whoever ·speaks [blasphemes] against the ·Holy Spirit [L Spirit] will not be forgiven. 32 Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, ·now or in the future [L neither in this age, nor the one to come].
People Know You by Your Words
33 “If you want good fruit, you must ·make the tree good [grow a good/healthy tree]. If ·your tree is not good [you grow a bad/unhealthy tree], it will have bad fruit. A tree is ·known [identified; recognized] by the kind of fruit it produces. 34 You ·snakes [T brood/offspring of vipers]! You are evil people, so how can you say anything good? [L For] The mouth speaks the things that ·are in [overflow from] the heart. 35 Good people ·have good things in their hearts, and so they say good things [L bring forth good things from the good treasure/storehouse]. But evil people ·have evil in their hearts, so they say evil things [L bring forth evil things from the evil treasure/storehouse]. 36 And I tell you that on the judgment day people will ·be responsible [give an accounting; answer] for every ·careless [idle; thoughtless; unhelpful] ·thing [word] they have said. 37 ·The words you have said will be used to judge you. Some of your words will prove you right, but some of your words will prove you guilty [L For by your words you will be acquitted/justified, and by your words you will be condemned].”
The People Ask for a Miracle(F)
38 Then some of the Pharisees and ·teachers of the law [scribes] answered Jesus, saying, “Teacher, we want to see ·you work a miracle as a sign [L a sign from you].”
39 Jesus answered, “Evil and sinful people [L An evil and adulterous/unfaithful generation] are the ones who ·want to see [seek after; ask for; demand] ·a miracle for a sign [L a sign]. But no sign will be given to them, except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40 [L For just as] Jonah was in the stomach of the ·big fish [sea monster; sea creature] for three days and three nights [Jon. 1:17]. In the same way, the Son of Man will be in the ·grave [L heart of the earth] three days and three nights. 41 On the judgment day the ·people [or men] from Nineveh will stand up with ·you people who live now [this generation], and they will ·show that you are guilty [condemn you]. [L Because] When Jonah preached to them, they ·were sorry and changed their lives [repented]. And ·I tell you that [L look; T behold] ·someone [or something; C either Jesus or the Kingdom of God] greater than Jonah is here. 42 On the judgment day, the Queen of the South will ·stand [rise] up with ·you people who live today [this generation]. She will ·show that you are guilty [condemn you], because she came from ·far away [the ends of the earth] to listen to Solomon’s wise teaching [1 Kin. 10:1–13]. People Today Are Full of Evil(G)
43 “When an ·evil [defiling; L unclean] spirit comes out of a person, it travels through ·dry [waterless; arid] places, looking for a place to rest, but it doesn’t find it. 44 So the spirit says, ‘I will go back to the house [C the person] I left.’ When the spirit comes back, it finds the house still empty, swept clean, and ·made neat [put in order; fixed up]. 45 Then the evil spirit goes out and brings seven other spirits even more ·evil [wicked] than it is, and they go in and live there. So ·the person has even more trouble than before [L the last state of that person is worse than the first]. ·It is the same way [L So it will be] with ·the evil people who live today [this evil generation].”
Jesus’ True Family(H)
46 While Jesus was talking to the ·people [crowds], [L look; T behold] his mother and ·brothers [or brothers and sisters; C the Greek word can mean “siblings”] stood outside, ·trying to find a way [seeking; asking] to talk to him. 47 Someone told Jesus, “[L Look; T Behold] Your mother and brothers [and sisters] are standing outside, ·and they want [seeking; asking] to talk to you.”[a]
48 He answered, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers [and sisters]?” 49 Then he ·pointed to [or stretched out his hand toward] his ·followers [disciples] and said, “·Here are [L Look; T Behold] my mother and my brothers. 50 My true brother and sister and mother are those who do ·what my Father in heaven wants [the will of my Father in heaven].”

12 Naquele tempo, passou Jesus pelas searas, em um sábado; e os seus discípulos, tendo fome, começaram a colher espigas e a comer. 2 E os fariseus, vendo isso, disseram-lhe: Eis que os teus discípulos fazem o que não é lícito fazer num sábado. 3 Ele, porém, lhes disse: Não tendes lido o que fez Davi, quando teve fome, ele e os que com ele estavam? 4 Como entrou na Casa de Deus e comeu os pães da proposição, que não lhe era lícito comer, nem aos que com ele estavam, mas só aos sacerdotes? 5 Ou não tendes lido na lei que, aos sábados, os sacerdotes no templo violam o sábado e ficam sem culpa? 6 Pois eu vos digo que está aqui quem é maior do que o templo. 7 Mas, se vós soubésseis o que significa: Misericórdia quero e não sacrifício, não condenaríeis os inocentes. 8 Porque o Filho do Homem até do sábado é Senhor.
A cura do homem que tinha uma das mãos mirrada(B)
9 E, partindo dali, chegou à sinagoga deles. 10 E estava ali um homem que tinha uma das mãos mirrada; e eles, para acusarem Jesus, o interrogaram, dizendo: É lícito curar nos sábados? 11 E ele lhes disse: Qual dentre vós será o homem que, tendo uma ovelha, se num sábado ela cair numa cova, não lançará mão dela e a levantará? 12 Pois quanto mais vale um homem do que uma ovelha? É, por consequência, lícito fazer bem nos sábados. 13 Então disse àquele homem: Estende a mão. E ele a estendeu, e ficou sã como a outra. 14 E os fariseus, tendo saído, formaram conselho contra ele, para o matarem.
15 Jesus, sabendo isso, retirou-se dali, e acompanhou-o uma grande multidão de gente, e ele curou a todos. 16 E recomendava-lhes rigorosamente que o não descobrissem, 17 para que se cumprisse o que fora dito pelo profeta Isaías, que diz: 18 Eis aqui o meu servo que escolhi, o meu amado, em quem a minha alma se compraz; porei sobre ele o meu Espírito, e anunciará aos gentios o juízo. 19 Não contenderá, nem clamará, nem alguém ouvirá pelas ruas a sua voz; 20 não esmagará a cana quebrada e não apagará o morrão que fumega, até que faça triunfar o juízo. 21 E, no seu nome, os gentios esperarão.
A blasfêmia dos fariseus(C)
22 Trouxeram-lhe, então, um endemoninhado cego e mudo; e, de tal modo o curou, que o cego e mudo falava e via. 23 E toda a multidão se admirava e dizia: Não é este o Filho de Davi? 24 Mas os fariseus, ouvindo isso, diziam: Este não expulsa os demônios senão por Belzebu, príncipe dos demônios. 25 Jesus, porém, conhecendo os seus pensamentos, disse-lhes: Todo reino dividido contra si mesmo é devastado; e toda cidade ou casa dividida contra si mesma não subsistirá. 26 E, se Satanás expulsa a Satanás, está dividido contra si mesmo; como subsistirá, pois, o seu reino? 27 E, se eu expulso os demônios por Belzebu, por quem os expulsam, então, os vossos filhos? Portanto, eles mesmos serão os vossos juízes. 28 Mas, se eu expulso os demônios pelo Espírito de Deus, é conseguintemente chegado a vós o Reino de Deus. 29 Ou como pode alguém entrar em casa do homem valente e furtar os seus bens, se primeiro não manietar o valente, saqueando, então, a sua casa? 30 Quem não é comigo é contra mim; e quem comigo não ajunta espalha. 31 Portanto, eu vos digo: todo pecado e blasfêmia se perdoará aos homens, mas a blasfêmia contra o Espírito não será perdoada aos homens. 32 E, se qualquer disser alguma palavra contra o Filho do Homem, ser-lhe-á perdoado, mas, se alguém falar contra o Espírito Santo, não lhe será perdoado, nem neste século nem no futuro.
Árvores e seus frutos(D)
33 Ou dizeis que a árvore é boa e o seu fruto, bom, ou dizeis que a árvore é má e o seu fruto, mau; porque pelo fruto se conhece a árvore. 34 Raça de víboras, como podeis vós dizer boas coisas, sendo maus? Pois do que há em abundância no coração, disso fala a boca. 35 O homem bom tira boas coisas do seu bom tesouro, e o homem mau do mau tesouro tira coisas más. 36 Mas eu vos digo que de toda palavra ociosa que os homens disserem hão de dar conta no Dia do Juízo. 37 Porque por tuas palavras serás justificado e por tuas palavras serás condenado.
O milagre de Jonas(E)
38 Então, alguns dos escribas e dos fariseus tomaram a palavra, dizendo: Mestre, quiséramos ver da tua parte algum sinal. 39 Mas ele lhes respondeu e disse: Uma geração má e adúltera pede um sinal, porém não se lhe dará outro sinal, senão o do profeta Jonas, 40 pois, como Jonas esteve três dias e três noites no ventre da baleia, assim estará o Filho do Homem três dias e três noites no seio da terra. 41 Os ninivitas ressurgirão no Juízo com esta geração e a condenarão, porque se arrependeram com a pregação de Jonas. E eis que está aqui quem é mais do que Jonas. 42 A Rainha do Sul se levantará no Dia do Juízo com esta geração e a condenará, porque veio dos confins da terra para ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão. E eis que está aqui quem é mais do que Salomão.
43 E, quando o espírito imundo tem saído do homem, anda por lugares áridos, buscando repouso, e não o encontra. 44 Então, diz: Voltarei para a minha casa, donde saí. E, voltando, acha-a desocupada, varrida e adornada. 45 Então, vai e leva consigo outros sete espíritos piores do que ele, e, entrando, habitam ali; e são os últimos atos desse homem piores do que os primeiros. Assim acontecerá também a esta geração má.
A família de Jesus(F)
46 E, falando ele ainda à multidão, eis que estavam fora sua mãe e seus irmãos, pretendendo falar-lhe. 47 E disse-lhe alguém: Eis que estão ali fora tua mãe e teus irmãos, que querem falar-te. 48 Porém ele, respondendo, disse ao que lhe falara: Quem é minha mãe? E quem são meus irmãos? 49 E, estendendo a mão para os seus discípulos, disse: Eis aqui minha mãe e meus irmãos; 50 porque qualquer que fizer a vontade de meu Pai, que está nos céus, este é meu irmão, e irmã, e mãe.
