安息日的主
12 在安息日那天，耶穌從麥田經過。他的門徒們餓了，就開始摘麥穗吃。 2 有些法利賽人看見了，就對耶穌說：「你看，你的門徒們做了在安息日不可以做的事。」
3 耶穌對他們說：「大衛和那些與他在一起的人飢餓時所做的事，你們難道沒有讀過嗎？ 4 他不是進了神的殿[a]，和他們吃了[b]陳設餅嗎？這餅是他和那些與他在一起的人不可以吃的，唯有祭司才可以吃。 5 再者，你們難道沒有在律法書上讀過：當安息日，祭司們在聖殿裡觸犯了安息日，也是無罪的嗎？ 6 但是我告訴你們：比聖殿更大的就在這裡！ 7 你們如果明白『我要的是憐憫，而不是祭祀』[c]這話是什麼意思，就不會把無罪的定為有罪了。 8 因為人子是安息日的主。」
治癒手萎縮的人
9 耶穌離開那地方，進了他們的會堂。 10 看哪，有個一隻手枯萎的人。有些人就問耶穌，說：「在安息日使人痊癒，是否可以呢？」這是為要控告耶穌。
11 耶穌對他們說：「你們當中有哪一個人，如果他有一隻羊在安息日掉進坑裡，他不會抓住羊，把牠拉上來呢？ 12 人比羊重要多了！所以，在安息日做好事是可以的。」
13 於是耶穌對那個人說：「伸出你的手！」他一伸出來，手就復原了，和另一隻一樣健全。 14 那些法利賽人就出去，商議怎樣對付耶穌，好除滅他。
神的僕人
15 耶穌知道了，就離開那裡。有一大群人跟隨他，耶穌使他們都痊癒了， 16 並且告誡他們不要把他傳揚出去。 17 這是為要應驗那藉著先知以賽亞所說的話：
18 「看哪，我所揀選的僕人，
我所愛的，心所喜悅的。
我要把我的靈賜給他，
他要向外邦人宣揚審判的事。
19 他不爭競、不喧嚷，
大街[d]上也沒有人聽見他的聲音。
20 壓傷的蘆葦，他不折斷；
將熄的燈火，他不吹滅，
直到他使公義得勝，
21 外邦人將要仰望他的名。」[e]
自相紛爭
22 那時，一個有鬼魔附身、又瞎又啞的人被帶到耶穌那裡。耶穌使他痊癒，那啞巴就能說話，也能看見了。 23 眾人都十分驚訝，說：「難道這個人就是『大衛的後裔』？」
24 但法利賽人聽見了卻說：「這個人如果不是靠著鬼魔的王別西卜，就不能驅趕鬼魔！」
25 耶穌知道他們的想法，就對他們說：「任何一個國家，如果自相紛爭就成為荒蕪；任何一個城或家庭，如果自相紛爭就站立不住。 26 如果撒旦驅趕撒旦，就是自相紛爭，它的國怎麼能站立得住呢？ 27 如果我是靠別西卜驅趕鬼魔，那麼，你們的子弟是靠誰驅趕鬼魔呢？為此，你們的子弟就將要成為你們的審判者了。 28 然而，如果我藉著神的靈驅趕鬼魔，那麼，神的國就已經臨到你們了。 29 人怎麼能進入一個壯士的家搶奪他的東西呢？如果不先把那壯士捆住，就不能搶奪他的家。 30 不與我在一起的，就是在反對我；不與我一起收集的，就是在拆散。 31 為此，我告訴你們：人一切的罪和褻瀆的話都能被赦免，但褻瀆聖靈卻不能被赦免。 32 凡是說話抵擋人子的，還能被赦免；但如果有人說話抵擋聖靈，無論在這世代，或在將要來的世代，都不能被赦免。
樹與果
33 「你們讓一棵樹好，它的果子就好；你們讓一棵樹壞，它的果子就壞；這樣，一棵樹是憑著果子被認出來。 34 你們這些毒蛇的子孫！你們做為惡人，怎麼能說出善的來呢？因為心裡所充滿的，口裡就說出來。 35 好人從他心裡[f]所存的善，發出善來；壞人從他心裡所存的惡，發出惡來。 36 我告訴你們：人所說的每一句無益的話，在那審判的日子，句句都要做出交代， 37 因為憑你的話，你將被稱為義；也憑你的話，你將被定有罪。」
約拿的神蹟
38 當時，有一些經文士和法利賽人對耶穌說：「老師，我們希望你顯個神蹟給我們看。」
39 耶穌回答他們，說：「一個邪惡、淫亂的世代會尋求神蹟；可是除了先知約拿的神蹟以外，不會有神蹟賜給它了。 40 就是說，正如約拿在大魚的肚子裡三天三夜，人子也照樣將要在地心三天三夜。 41 在審判的時候，尼尼微人將要與這世代一起復活[g]，並且要定這世代的罪，因為尼尼微人因著約拿的傳道就悔改了。看，比約拿更大的就在這裡！ 42 在審判的時候，南方的女王[h]將要與這世代一起復活[i]，並且要定這世代的罪，因為她從極遠的地方來，要聽所羅門智慧的話語。看，比所羅門更大的就在這裡！

43 「有個汙靈從一個人身上出來以後，走遍無水之地，尋找安歇的地方，卻找不到， 44 就說：『我要回到我離開的那屋裡去。』於是它回去，發現那裡空著，已被打掃乾淨，擺設整齊， 45 就去帶了另外七個比自己更邪惡的靈，進去住在那裡。那個人最後的情況就比先前更壞了。這邪惡的世代也將是這樣。」
真正的親屬
46 耶穌正在向人群講話，這時候他的母親和弟弟們[j]站在外面，想要和他說話。 47 有人告訴他：「看，你母親和弟弟們站在外面，想和你說話。」[k]
48 耶穌回答那對他說話的人，說：「我的母親是誰呢？我的弟兄是誰呢？」 49 他就伸手指著他的門徒們，說：「看，我的母親、我的弟兄！ 50 因為凡是遵行我天父旨意的人，他才是我的弟兄、姐妹和母親。」

12 فِي ذَلِكَ الوَقْتِ، ذَهَبَ يَسُوعُ لِيَتَمَشَّى فِي الحُقُولِ فِي يَوْمٍ مِنْ أيَّامِ السَّبْتِ. فَجَاعَ تَلَامِيذُهُ وَابْتَدَأُوا يَلْتَقِطُونَ سَنَابِلَ القَمْحِ وَيَأْكُلُونَهَا. 2 وَلَكِنْ عِنْدَمَا رَأى الفِرِّيسِيُّونَ ذَلِكَ قَالُوا لَهُ: «هَا إنَّ تَلَامِيذَكَ يَعْمَلُونَ مَا لَا يَجُوزُ فِعلُهُ فِي السَّبْتِ.»
3 فَقَالَ لَهُمْ يَسُوعُ: «ألَمْ تَقْرَأُوا فِي الكِتَابِ مَا فَعَلَهُ دَاوُدُ عِنْدَمَا جَاعَ هُوَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ؟ 4 لَقَدْ دَخَلَ إلَى بَيْتِ اللهِ وَأكَلَ مِنْ أرغِفَةِ الخُبْزِ المُقَدَّمَةِ إلَى اللهِ، مَعَ أنَّهُ لَا يَجُوزُ لَهُ وَلَا لِمَنْ مَعَهُ أنْ يَأْكُلَ ذَلِكَ الخُبْزَ، بَلْ يُسمَحُ ذَلِكَ لِلكَهَنَةِ وَحدَهُمْ. 5 ألَمْ تَقْرَأُوا أيْضًا فِي شَرِيعَةِ مُوسَى كَيْفَ أنَّ الكَهَنَةَ فِي يَوْمِ السَّبْتِ لَا يَحْفَظُونَ الشَّرِيعَةَ المُتَعَلِّقَةَ بِالسَّبْتِ؟ وَمَعَ هَذَا لَا يُحَاسَبُونَ عَلَى عَمَلِهِمْ هَذَا، 6 لَكِنِّي أقُولُ لَكُمْ إنَّ هُنَاكَ مَا هُوَ أعْظَمُ مِنَ الهَيْكَلِ هُنَا. 7 وَلَوْ عَرَفْتُمْ مَا يَعْنِيهِ الكِتَابُ حِينَ يَقُولُ: ‹أُريدُ رَحْمَةً لِلنَّاسِ، لَا ذَبَائِحَ حَيَوَانِيَّةً.›[a] لِمَا حَكَمْتُمْ عَلَى أُولَئِكَ الأبرِيَاءِ. 8 لِأنَّ ابْنَ الإنْسَانِ هُوَ رَبُّ السَّبْتِ.»

9 ثُمَّ تَرَكَ ذَلِكَ المَكَانَ، وَذَهَبَ إلَى مَجمَعِهِمْ. 10 وَكَانَ هُنَاكَ رَجُلٌ يَدُهُ مَشلُولَةٌ. فَسَألَ النَّاسُ يَسُوعَ: «هَلْ تَسْمَحُ الشَّرِيعَةُ بِشِفَاءِ يَدِ هَذَا الرَّجُلِ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ؟» سَألُوهُ ذَلِكَ، لِكَي يَكُونَ لَدَيهِمْ دَلِيلٌ يَشْتَكُونَ بِهِ عَلَيْهِ.
11 فَقَالَ لَهُمْ: «افتَرِضُوا أنَّ أحَدَكُمْ لَهُ خَرُوفٌ وَقَعَ فِي حُفرَةٍ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ، ألَا تُمسِكُونَهُ وَتُخرِجُونَهُ؟ 12 وَالإنْسَانُ أكْثَرُ أهَمِّيَّةً مِنَ الخَرُوفِ. إذًا فَعَمَلُ الخَيْرِ يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ، يَتَوَافَقُ مَعَ الشَّرِيعَةِ.»
13 ثُمَّ قَالَ يَسُوعُ لِلَّذِي يَدُهُ مَشلُولَةٌ: «ابسُطْ يَدَكَ.» فَبَسَطَهَا فَعَادَتْ سَلِيمَةً تَمَامًا كَيَدِهِ الأُخرَى. 14 فَخَرَجَ الفِرِّيسِيُّونَ وَابْتَدَأُوا يَتَآمَرُونَ لِيَعْرِفُوا كَيْفَ يَقْتُلُونَ يَسُوعَ.
يَسُوعُ: خَادِمُ اللهِ المُختَار
15 فَعَرَفَ يَسُوعُ مُخَطَّطَهُمْ، وَتَرَكَ ذَلِكَ المَكَانَ. فَتَبِعَتْهُ جَمَاهِيرُ كَبِيرَةٌ، فَشَفَاهُمْ جَمِيعًا، 16 وَأمَرَهُمْ أنْ لَا يَكْشِفُوا مَنْ هُوَ. 17 حَدَثَ هَذَا لِيَتِمَّ مَا قَالَهُ اللهُ عَلَىْ لِسَانِ النَّبِيِّ إشَعْيَاءَ:
18 «هُوَذَا خَادِمِي الَّذِي اختَرْتُهُ،
حَبِيبِي الَّذِي سُرِرْتُ بِهِ.
سَأضَعُ رُوحِي عَلَيْهِ،
فَيُعلِنَ العَدْلَ لِلأُمَمِ.
19 لَنْ يُخَاصِمَ أحَدًا وَلَنْ يَصْرُخَ،
وَلَنْ يُسمِعَ أحَدًا صَوْتَهُ فِي شَوَارِعِهِمْ.
20 لَنْ يَكْسِرَ حَتَّى القَصَبَةَ المُنحَنِيَةَ،
وَلَنْ يُطفِئَ حَتَّى الفَتِيلَةَ المُدَخِّنَةَ.
وَسَيَسْتَمِرُّ إلَى أنْ يَجْعَلَ العَدْلَ يَنْتَصِرُ.

22 ثُمَّ أحضَرُوا إلَيْهِ رَجُلًا أعْمَى وَأخرَسَ لِأنَّهُ كَانَ مَسكُونًا بِروحٍ شِرِّيرٍ، فَشَفَاهُ. فَصَارَ الأخرَسُ يَتَكَلَّمُ وَيَرَى. 23 فَانْدَهَشَ النَّاسُ وَقَالُوا: «هَلْ يُمْكِنُ أنْ يَكُونَ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ ابْنَ دَاوُدَ؟»
24 فَعِنْدَمَا سَمِعَ الفِرِّيسِيُّونَ هَذَا، قَالُوا: «هَذَا الرَّجُلُ يُخرِجُ الأروَاحَ الشِّرِّيرَةَ بِقُوَّةِ بَعلَزَبُولَ[c] رَئِيسِ الأرْوَاحِ الشِّرِّيرَةِ.»
25 وَإذْ عَرَفَ يَسُوعُ أفكَارَهُمْ، قَالَ لَهُمْ: «إنَّ مَصِيرَ كُلِّ مَملَكَةٍ يَنْقَسِمُ أهْلُهَا وَيَتَحَارَبُونَ هُوَ الخَرَابُ. وَكُلُّ مَدِينَةٍ أوْ بَيْتٍ يَتَحَارَبُ أهْلُهُ لَا يَدُومُ. 26 فَإذَا كَانَ الشَّيْطَانُ يَطْرُدُ الأروَاحَ وَيُحَارِبُ ذَاتَهُ، فَكَيْفَ يُمْكِنُ أنْ تَصْمُدَ مَملَكَتُهُ؟ 27 فَإنْ كُنْتُ أنَا أطرُدُ الأروَاحَ الشِّرِّيرَةَ بِقُوَّةِ بَعلَزَبُولَ، فَبِمَاذَا يَطْرُدُهَا تَلَامِيذُكُمْ؟ فَهُمُ الَّذِينَ يَحْكُمُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ. 28 لَكِنْ إنْ كُنْتُ أطرُدُ الأروَاحَ الشِّرِّيرَةَ بِرُوحِ اللهِ، فَقَدْ صَارَ وَاضِحًا أنَّ مَلَكُوتَ اللهِ قَدْ جَاءَ إلَيكُمْ. 29 كَيْفَ يُمْكِنُ لأحَدٍ أنْ يَدْخُلَ بَيْتَ رَجُلٍ قَوِيٍّ وَيَنْهَبَ أمْلَاكَهُ، إلَّا إذَا رَبَطَ الرَّجُلَ القَوِيَّ أوَّلًا؟ حِينَئِذٍ يُصْبِحُ قَادِرًا عَلَى نَهبِ بَيْتِهِ.
30 «مَنْ لَيْسَ مَعْي فَهُوَ ضِدِّي. وَمَنْ لَا يَجْمَعُ مَعِي فَهُوَ يُبَعثِرُ.» 31 لِذَلِكَ أقُولُ لَكُمْ: كُلُّ خَطِيَّةٍ وَإهَانَةٍ يُمْكِنُ أنْ تُغفَرَ لِلنَّاسِ، أمَّا إهَانَةُ الرُّوحِ القُدُسِ فَلَنْ تُغفَرَ. 32 مَنْ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِشَيءٍ ضِدَّ ابْنِ الإنْسَانِ يُغفَرُ لَهُ، وَأمَّا مَنْ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِشَيءٍ ضِدَّ الرُّوحِ القُدُسِ فَلَا يُمْكِنُ أنْ يُغفَرَ لَهُ، لَا فِي هَذَا العَالَمِ وَلَا فِي العَالَمِ الآتِي.
الثَّمَرُ يُظهِرُ الحَقِيقَة

33 «لِكَي تَنَالَ ثَمَرًا جَيِّدًا، ازرَعْ شَجَرَةً جَيِّدَةً. أمَّا الشَجَرَةُ الرَّديئَةُ، فَتُعْطِيكَ ثَمَرًا رَدِيئًا. لِأنَّ الشَّجَرَةَ تُعرَفُ بِثَمَرِهَا. 34 يَا أوْلَادَ الأفَاعِي، كَيْفَ يُمكِنُكُمْ أنْ تَتَكَلَّمُوا بِالأُمُورِ الصَّالِحَةِ وَأنْتُمْ أشرَارٌ؟ لِأنَّ الفَمَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا يَمْتَلِئُ بِهِ القَلْبُ. 35 فَالإنْسَانُ الصَّالِحُ يُخرِجُ مَا هُوَ صَالِحٌ مِنَ كَنزِهِ الصَّالِحِ، وَالإنْسَانُ الشِّرِّيرُ يُخرِجُ مَا هُوَ شِرِّيرٌ مِنَ الشَّرِّ المَخزُونِ لَدَيهِ. 36 وَلَكِنِّي أقُولُ لَكُمْ إنَّهُ فِي يَوْمِ الدَّينُونَةِ، سَيُسْألُ النَّاسُ عَنْ كُلِّ كَلِمَةٍ قَالُوهَا. 37 وَكَلَامُكَ سَيُقَرِّرُ بَرَاءَتَكَ أوْ إدَانَتَكَ.»
قَادَةُ اليَهُودِ يَطْلُبُونَ بُرهَانًا
(مَرْقُس 8:11-12؛ لُوقَا 11:29-32)
38 ثُمَّ طَلَبَ مِنْهُ بَعْضُ مُعَلِّمِي الشَّرِيعَةِ وَالفِرِّيسِيُّونَ وَقَالُوا: «يَا مُعَلِّمُ، نُرِيدُ أنْ نَرَى مَنْكَ بُرهَانًا مُعْجِزيًّا.»
39 فَأجَابَهُمْ: «هَذَا الجِيلُ الشِّرِّيرُ الفَاسِقُ يَبْحَثُ عَنْ بُرهَانٍ لِكَي يُؤمِنَ. وَلَنْ يُعْطَى إلَّا بُرْهَانَ النَّبِيِّ يُونَانَ. 40 فَكَمَا أنَّ يُونَانَ بَقِيَ فِي بَطنِ السَّمَكَةِ الكَبِيرَةِ ثَلَاثَةَ أيَّامٍ وَثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ، هَكَذَا سَيَبْقَى ابْنُ الإنْسَانِ فِي جَوفِ الأرْضِ ثَلَاثَةَ أيَّامٍ وَثَلَاثَ لَيَالٍ. 41 سَيَقِفُ أهْلُ نِينَوَى يَوْمَ الدَّينُونَةِ ضِدَّ هَذَا الجِيلِ، وَسَيَدِينُونَهُ لأنَّهُمْ تَابُوا إذْ سَمِعُوا تَحْذِيرَ يُونَانَ. وَالْآنَ هُنَا أمَامَكُمْ مَنْ هُوَ أعْظَمُ مِنْ يُونَانَ.
42 «وَسَتَقِفُ مَلِكَةُ الجَنُوبِ[d] يَوْمَ الدَّينُونَةِ ضِدَّ هَذَا الجِيلِ وَسَتُدِينُهُ. فَقَدْ جَاءَتْ مِنْ أقَاصِي الأرْضِ لِكَي تَسْمَعَ حِكْمَةَ سُلَيْمَانَ. وَالْآنَ هُنَا أمَامَكُمْ مَنْ هُوَ أعْظَمُ مِنْ سُلَيْمَانَ.

43 «عِنْدَمَا يَخْرُجُ رُوحٌ نَجِسٌ مِنْ إنْسَانٍ، فَإنَّهُ يَجتَازُ أمَاكِنَ جَافَّةً سَاعِيًا إلَى مَكَانِ رَاحَةٍ، فَلَا يَجِدُ، 44 حينَئِذٍ يَقُولُ: ‹سَأعُودُ إلَى بَيْتِي الَّذِي جِئتُ مِنْهُ.› فَيَذْهَبُ وَيَجِدُ البَيْتَ فَارِغًا وَمُكَنَّسًا وَمُرَتَّبًا. 45 حينَئِذٍ يَذْهَبُ وَيُحْضِرُ مَعَهُ سَبْعَةَ أروَاحٍ أُخَرَ تَفُوقُهُ شَرًّا، فَتَدْخُلُ وَتَسْكُنُ هُنَاكَ. وَهَكَذَا تَكُونُ حَالَةُ ذَلِكَ الإنْسَانِ الأخِيرَةُ أسوَأَ مِنْ حَالَتِهِ الأُولَى. هَكَذَا سَيَحْدُثُ مَعَ هَذَا الجِيلِ الحَاضِرِ الشِّرِّيرِ.»

46 وَبَيْنَمَا كَانَ يَسُوعُ يَتَكَلَّمُ إلَى جُمُوعِ النَّاسِ، أتَتْ أُمُّهُ وَإخوَتُهُ وَوَقَفُوا فِي الخَارِجِ، وَطَلَبُوا أنْ يَتَحَدَّثُوا إلَيْهِ. 47 فَقَالَ أحَدُ الأشخَاصِ لِيَسُوعَ: «أُمُّكَ وَإخوَتُكَ يَقِفُونَ فِي الخَارِجِ وَيُرِيدُونَ التَّحَدُّثَ إلَيْكَ.» 48 فَأجَابَهُ يَسُوعُ: «مَنْ هِيَ أُمِّي، وَمَنْ هُمْ إخْوَتِي؟» 49 ثُمَّ أشَارَ بِيَدِهِ إلَى تَلَامِيذِهِ وَقَالَ: «هَؤُلَاءِ هُمْ أُمِّي وَإخوَتِي، 50 لِأنَّ الَّذِي يَعْمَلُ مَشِيئَةَ أبِي الَّذِي فِي السَّمَاءِ هُوَ أخِي وَأُختِي وَأُمِّي.»

12 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?
24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?
27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.
28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.
29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.
30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.
31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.
34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.
36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.
43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished.
45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
