11 耶穌吩咐完了十二個門徒，就離開那裏，往各城去傳道，教導人。
施洗約翰的門徒來見耶穌(A)
2 約翰在監獄裏聽見基督所做的事，就派他的門徒去， 3 問耶穌：「將要來的那位就是你嗎？還是我們要等候另一位呢？」 4 耶穌回答他們：「你們去，把所聽見、所看見的告訴約翰： 5 就是盲人看見，瘸子行走，痲瘋病人得潔淨，聾子聽見，死人復活，窮人聽到福音。 6 凡不因我跌倒的有福了！」 7 他們一走，耶穌就對眾人談到約翰，說：「你們從前到曠野去，是要看甚麼呢？看風吹動的蘆葦嗎？ 8 你們出去到底是要看甚麼？看穿細軟衣服的人嗎？那穿細軟衣服的人是在王宮裏。 9 你們出去究竟是要看甚麼？是先知嗎？是的，我告訴你們，他比先知大多了。 10 這個人就是經上所說的：
『看哪，我要差遣我的使者在你面前，
他要在你前面為你預備道路。』
11 我實在告訴你們，凡女子所生的，沒有一個比施洗約翰大；但在天國裏，最小的比他還大。 12 從施洗約翰的日子到今天，天國受到強烈的攻擊，強者奪取它[a]。 13 眾先知和律法，直到約翰為止，都說了預言。 14 如果你們願意接受，這人就是那要來的以利亞。 15 有耳的，就應當聽！
16 「我該用甚麼來比這世代呢？這正像孩童坐在街市上向同伴呼喊：
17 『我們為你們吹笛，你們不跳舞；
我們唱哀歌，你們不捶胸。』
18 約翰來了，既不吃也不喝，人們就說他是被鬼附的； 19 人子來了，也吃也喝，他們又說這人貪食好酒，是稅吏和罪人的朋友。而智慧是由它的果子來證實的[b]。」
耶穌責備不悔改的城(B)
20 那時，耶穌在一些城行了許多異能。因為城裏的人不肯悔改，他就責備那些城說： 21 「哥拉汛哪，你有禍了！伯賽大啊，你有禍了！因為在你們中間所行的異能若行在推羅、西頓，他們早已披麻蒙灰悔改了。 22 但我告訴你們，在審判的日子，推羅和西頓所受的，比你們還容易受呢！ 23 迦百農啊，
你以為要被舉到天上嗎？
你要被推下陰間！
因為在你那裏所行的異能，若行在所多瑪，它還可以存留到今日。 24 但我告訴你們，在審判的日子，所多瑪地方所受的，比你們還容易受呢！」
到我這裏來(C)
25 那時，耶穌說：「父啊，天地的主，我感謝你！因為你把這些事向聰明智慧的人隱藏起來，而向嬰孩啟示出來。 26 父啊，是的，因為你的美意本是如此。 27 一切都是我父交給我的；除了父，沒有人知道子；除了子和子所願意啟示的人，沒有人知道父。 28 凡勞苦擔重擔的人都到我這裏來，我要使你們得安息。 29 我心裏柔和謙卑，你們當負我的軛，向我學習；這樣，你們的心靈就必得安息。 30 因為我的軛是容易的，我的擔子是輕省的。」

11 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.
7 And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings' houses.
9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
12 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.
13 For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.
15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16 But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
17 And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein most of his mighty works were done, because they repented not:
21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Jesus svarar på Johannes döparens fråga
(Luk 7:18-35; 16:16)
11 När Jesus hade gett sina tolv lärjungar dessa föreskrifter, gick han vidare för att undervisa och förkunna i städerna i Galileen.
2 Johannes döparen, som satt i fängelse, fick höra om Kristus gärningar och skickade därför iväg några av sina lärjungar 3 för att fråga honom: ”Är du den som ska komma, eller ska vi vänta på någon annan?”
4 Jesus svarade dem: ”Gå tillbaka till Johannes och berätta för honom vad ni har hört och sett: 5 att blinda börjar se, förlamade går, spetälska blir rena, döva hör, döda uppstår, och de fattiga får höra evangeliet.[a] 6 Lycklig är den som inte kommer på fall för min skull.”
7 När Johannes lärjungar hade gått, började Jesus tala till folket om Johannes. Han sa: ”När ni gick ut i ödemarken, vad ville ni då se? Ett grässtrå som vajar för vinden? 8 Eller vad gick ni ut för att se? En man klädd i fina kläder? Nej, män som går omkring i dyrbara kläder finns i kungapalatsen. 9 Vad gick ni ut för att se? En profet? Ja, jag säger er: han är mer än en profet. 10 Han är den som det står skrivet om:
’Se! Jag ska sända min budbärare före dig,
och han ska bereda vägen för dig.’[b]
11 Sannerligen säger jag er: ingen av kvinna född har trätt fram som är större än Johannes döparen. Ändå är den minsta i himmelriket större än han.
12 Ända sedan Johannes döparens tid och fram tills nu har himmelriket trängt fram, och det finns de som vill få det att ske med våld[c]. 13 Lagen och profeterna har profeterat fram till Johannes. 14 Och vare sig ni tror det eller inte, så är han Elia[d] som skulle komma[e]. 15 Lyssna, hör, den som har öron!
16 Vad ska jag jämföra detta släkte med? De är som barn som leker på torget och ropar till de andra barnen:
17 ’Vi spelade flöjt för er,
men ni ville inte dansa.
Vi sjöng klagosång för er,
men ni ville inte sörja.’
18 Johannes döparen kom och går ofta utan mat och dricker inte vin, och då säger man: ’Han är besatt av en ond ande.’ 19 Men Människosonen har kommit och äter och dricker, och då säger folk: ’Se vilken frossare och drinkare, en vän till tullindrivare och syndare! Men vishetens gärningar ger ändå visheten rätt.[f]’ ”
Jesus anklagar galileiska städer
(Luk 10:13-15)
20 Sedan började Jesus anklaga människorna i de städer där han hade gjort de flesta av sina under, eftersom de inte hade omvänt sig. Han sa:
21 ”Ve dig, Korasin, och ve dig, Betsaida! För om de under som gjorts hos er hade gjorts i Tyros och Sidon[g], hade de för länge sedan omvänt sig i säck och aska. 22 Men jag säger er, att på domens dag ska både Tyros och Sidon få det lindrigare än ni. 23 Och du, Kafarnaum, du ska väl inte bli upphöjt till himlen? Nej, ner till dödsriket ska du störtas. För om de under som gjorts hos dig hade utförts i Sodom[h], skulle den staden ha funnits kvar än idag. 24 Jag kan försäkra er, att Sodom ska slippa lindrigare undan på domens dag än du!”
Jesus utlovar ro och vila
(Luk 10:21-22)
25 Vid den tiden sa Jesus: ”Jag prisar dig, Fader, du som är Herre över himlen och jorden, för att du har dolt detta för de lärda och kloka, men visat det för dem som är som barn. 26 Ja, Fader, så har du bestämt.
27 Min fader har överlämnat allt åt mig. Ingen känner Sonen, utom Fadern, och ingen känner Fadern, utom Sonen och de som Sonen vill uppenbara honom för. 28 Kom till mig alla ni som är trötta och bär tunga bördor, så ska jag ge er vila. 29 Gå in under mitt ok och lär av mig. Jag är mild och ödmjuk i hjärtat. Hos mig finner ni ro för era själar. 30 Mitt ok är behagligt och min börda är lätt.”

Jesus and John the Baptist(A)
11 After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples,(B) he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.[a]
2 When John,(C) who was in prison,(D) heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come,(E) or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[b] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(F) 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”(G)
7 As John’s(H) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness(I) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet?(J) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[d] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.(M) 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.(N) 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.(O)
16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating(P) nor drinking,(Q) and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(R) But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”
Woe on Unrepentant Towns(S)
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the towns in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!(T) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon,(U) they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.(V) 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.(W) 23 And you, Capernaum,(X) will you be lifted to the heavens? No, you will go down to Hades.[e](Y) For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”(Z)
The Father Revealed in the Son(AA)
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,(AB) Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.(AC) 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me(AD) by my Father.(AE) No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.(AF)
28 “Come to me,(AG) all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.(AH) 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,(AI) for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.(AJ) 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”(AK)
