18 Sự giáng sinh của Ðức Chúa Jesus Christ đã xảy ra như thế này: Ma-ry mẹ Ngài đã đính hôn với Giô-sép, nhưng trước khi hai người đến với nhau, nàng đã thụ thai bởi Ðức Thánh Linh. 19 Giô-sép chồng nàng, một người có tình nghĩa[a] và không muốn cho nàng mang tiếng xấu, nên định kín đáo từ hôn với nàng. 20 Tuy nhiên, đang khi Giô-sép suy nghĩ về việc ấy, này, một thiên sứ của Chúa hiện đến với chàng trong chiêm bao, bảo rằng, “Hỡi Giô-sép, con cháu[b] Ða-vít, chớ ngại lấy Ma-ry làm vợ, vì thai nhi trong dạ nàng đã được thụ thai bởi Ðức Thánh Linh.

18 Sự giáng sinh của Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-su đã xảy ra như sau: Ma-ri, mẹ Ngài, đã đính hôn cùng Giô-sép, nhưng trước khi hai người chung sống, Ma-ri đã thụ thai do quyền phép[a] của Đức Thánh Linh. 19 Giô-sép, chồng hứa[b] của nàng là người có tình nghĩa,[c] không muốn nàng bị bêu xấu, nên định âm thầm từ hôn.
20 Đang khi ông suy tính như vậy, một thiên sứ của Chúa hiện đến trong giấc mộng và bảo: “Này Giô-sép, con cháu Đa-vít, đừng ngại cưới Ma-ri làm vợ vì thai nàng đang mang là bởi Đức Thánh Linh.

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[a]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit.(A) 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[b] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce(B) her quietly.
20 But after he had considered this, an angel(C) of the Lord appeared to him in a dream(D) and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
