9 耶穌繼續說：「我實在告訴你們，有些站在這裡的人會在有生之年看見上帝的國帶著能力降臨。」
登山變象
2 六天後，耶穌帶著彼得、雅各和約翰暗暗地登上一座高山。耶穌在他們面前改變了形像， 3 衣服變得潔白放光，世上找不到漂得那麼白的布。 4 這時，以利亞和摩西在他們眼前出現，與耶穌談話。 5 彼得對耶穌說：「老師，我們在這裡真好！我們搭三座帳篷吧，一座給你，一座給摩西，一座給以利亞。」
6 其實彼得當時不知說什麼才好，因為他們都很害怕。 7 就在這時候，有一朵雲彩飄來遮住他們，雲彩中有聲音說：「這是我的愛子，你們要聽從祂。」 8 門徒立刻四處觀看，發現沒有其他人，只有耶穌和他們在那裡。

14 他們與其他門徒會合時，看見一大群人圍住門徒，幾個律法教師正在跟他們辯論。 15 大家一看到耶穌，都十分驚奇，立刻跑上去迎接祂。 16 耶穌問門徒：「你們跟他們辯論什麼？」
17 人群中有一個人說：「老師，我帶了我的兒子來找你，因為他被啞巴鬼附身。 18 每次鬼控制他，把他摔在地上，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齒，全身僵硬。我請你的門徒趕走那鬼，他們卻辦不到。」
19 耶穌說：「唉，這不信的世代啊！我要跟你們在一起待多久，容忍你們多久呢？把他帶到我這裡吧。」
20 他們把那孩子帶到耶穌面前。那鬼一見耶穌，就使孩子抽搐，倒在地上打滾，口吐白沫。 21 耶穌問孩子的父親：「他這樣子多久了？」孩子的父親回答道：「他從小就這樣， 22 鬼常常將他扔進火裡或水裡，要害他的命。如果你能，求你憐憫我們，幫助我們吧！」
23 耶穌說：「如果你能？對於相信的人，凡事都有可能！」
24 孩子的父親立刻喊著說：「我信！但我信心不足，求你幫助我！」
25 耶穌看見人群都跑了過來，就斥責那污鬼：「你這個聾啞鬼，我命令你從他身上出來，不許再進去！」
26 那鬼發出喊叫，使孩子劇烈地抽搐了一陣，就出來了。孩子躺在地上一動也不動，大家都以為他死了。 27 但耶穌拉著他的手扶他起來，他就站了起來。
28 耶穌進屋後，門徒悄悄問祂：「我們為什麼趕不走那鬼呢？」
29 耶穌說：「要趕走這類鬼只有靠禱告[a]。」
再次預言受難
30 他們離開那裡，途經加利利。耶穌不想任何人知道祂的行蹤， 31 因為祂在教導門徒。祂說：「人子將被交在人的手中，被他們殺害，但三天之後，祂必復活。」 32 門徒卻不明白這句話的意思，又不敢問祂。
誰最偉大
33 他們回到迦百農的住所，耶穌問門徒：「你們一路上爭論些什麼？」
34 他們都沉默不語，因為剛才他們在爭論誰最偉大。 35 耶穌坐下，叫十二個門徒過來，對他們說：「誰想為首，就該在眾人中做最小的，作眾人的僕人。」 36 祂領了一個小孩子來，叫他站在門徒中間，又抱起他，對他們說： 37 「任何人為我的緣故接待這樣一個小孩子，就是接待我；凡接待我的，不單是接待我，也是接待差我來的那位。」
警戒犯罪
38 約翰對耶穌說：「老師，我們看見有人奉你的名趕鬼，就阻止他，因為他不是跟從我們的。」
39 耶穌說：「不要阻止他，因為沒有人奉我的名行過神蹟後，會很快毀謗我。 40 不反對我們的，就是支持我們的。 41 我實在告訴你們，若有人因為你們屬於基督而給你們一杯水喝，他也必得到賞賜。
42 「但若有人使這樣一個小信徒失足犯罪，他的下場比把大磨石掛在他脖子上扔到海裡還要慘。 43 如果你一隻手使你犯罪，就砍掉它！ 44 拖著殘廢的身體進入永生，勝過雙手健全卻落入地獄不滅的火中。 45 倘若你一隻腳使你犯罪，就砍掉它！瘸著腿進入永生， 46 勝過雙腳健全卻被丟進地獄！ 47 如果你的一隻眼睛使你犯罪，就剜掉它！獨眼進上帝的國，勝過雙目健全卻被丟進地獄。 48 在那裡，
『蟲是不死的，
火是不滅的。』

9 Then Jesus said to the people, “I tell you the truth, some people standing here will not ·die [L taste death] before they see the kingdom of God ·come [arrive] with power.” [C “Seeing the kingdom of God” may refer to the Transfiguration that follows (9:1–8), Jesus’ resurrection, or the destruction of Jerusalem in ad 70.]
The Transfiguration on the Mountain(A)
2 Six days later, Jesus took Peter, James, and John [L and led them] up on a high mountain by themselves. ·While they watched [In their presence; In front of them], Jesus’ appearance was ·changed [transformed; T transfigured]. 3 His clothes became shining white, whiter than any ·person [launderer on earth] could ·make them [bleach them]. 4 Then Elijah and Moses appeared to them, talking with Jesus. [C God had given the Law through Moses, and Elijah was an important prophet (see 6:1); together they signify that Jesus fulfills the OT.]
5 Peter said to Jesus, “·Teacher [L Rabbi], it is good that we are here. Let us make three ·tents [shelters; shrines; tabernacles; Lev. 23:42]—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” [C Perhaps Peter wanted to prolong their stay or to commemorate their visit.] 6 Peter did not know what to say, because he and the others were so frightened.
7 Then a cloud came and ·covered [overshadowed; Ex. 24:15] them, and a voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my ·Son, whom I love [dearly loved Son; Ps. 2:7; Gen. 22:2; Mark 1:11]. Listen to him [Deut. 18:15; Acts 3:22]!”
8 Suddenly Peter, James, and John looked around, but they saw only Jesus there alone with them.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus ·commanded [instructed] them not to tell anyone about what they had seen until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
10 So they ·obeyed Jesus [kept this statement/matter to themselves], but they discussed what he meant about rising from the dead.
11 Then they asked Jesus, “Why do the ·teachers of the law [scribes] say that Elijah must come first [Mal. 3:1; 4:5]?”
12 Jesus answered, “·They are right to say that Elijah must come first and [L Elijah is indeed coming, and he will] ·make everything the way it should be [restore/prepare everything]. But why does the Scripture say that the Son of Man will suffer much and ·that people will treat him as if he were nothing [be despised; be treated with contempt; be rejected; Is. 52:13—53:12]? 13 [L But] I tell you that Elijah has already come. And ·people [L they] did to him whatever they wanted to do, just as ·the Scriptures said it would happen [it is written about him].”
Jesus Heals a Sick Boy(B)
14 When Jesus, Peter, James, and John came back to the other ·followers [disciples], they saw a great crowd around them and the ·teachers of the law [scribes] arguing with them. 15 But as soon as the crowd saw Jesus, the people were ·surprised [amazed] and ran to welcome him.
16 Jesus asked, “What are you arguing about?”
17 A man [in the crowd] answered, “Teacher, I brought my son to you. He has an evil spirit in him that ·stops him from talking [makes him mute]. 18 When the spirit attacks him, it throws him on the ground. Then my son foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes ·very stiff [rigid]. I asked your ·followers [disciples] to ·force [drive; cast] the evil spirit out, but they couldn’t.”
19 Jesus answered, “You ·people have no faith [unbelieving/faithless generation]. How long must I stay with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So ·the followers [L they] brought him to Jesus. As soon as the evil spirit saw Jesus, it ·made the boy lose control of himself [threw the boy into convulsions], and he fell down and rolled on the ground, foaming at the mouth.
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has this been happening?”
The father answered, “Since ·he was very young [childhood]. 22 The spirit often throws him into a fire or into water to ·kill [destroy] him. If you can do anything for him, please have ·pity [compassion] on us and help us.”
23 Jesus said to the father, “You said, ‘If you can!’ All things are possible for the one who believes.”
24 Immediately the father cried out, “I do believe! Help ·me to believe more [me not to doubt; me overcome my unbelief; L my unbelief]!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was quickly gathering, he ·ordered [rebuked] the ·evil [defiling; L unclean] spirit, saying, “You deaf and mute spirit, I command you to come out of this boy and never enter him again!”
26 The evil spirit screamed and ·caused the boy to fall on the ground again [convulsed him violently]. Then the spirit came out. The boy looked as if he were dead, and many people said, “He is dead!” 27 But Jesus took hold of the boy’s hand and helped him to stand up.
28 When Jesus went into the house, his ·followers [disciples] began asking him privately, “Why couldn’t we ·force [drive; cast] that evil spirit out?”
29 Jesus answered, “That kind of spirit can only be forced out by prayer.”[a]
Jesus Again Talks About His Death(C)
30 Then Jesus and his ·followers [disciples] left that place and went through Galilee. He didn’t want anyone to know where he was, 31 because he was teaching his ·followers [disciples]. He said to them, “The Son of Man will be ·handed over [delivered over; betrayed] to ·people [L human hands], and they will kill him [C the “handing over” may be Judas’ betrayal or God’s actions in “giving up” his Son to accomplish salvation; Rom. 4:25]. After three days, he will rise from the dead.” 32 But they did not understand what Jesus meant, and they were afraid to ask him.
Who Is the Greatest?(D)
33 Jesus and his ·followers [disciples] went to Capernaum. When they went into a house there, he asked them, “What were you ·arguing about [discussing] on the road?” 34 But they did not answer, because their ·argument [discussion] on the road was about which one of them was the greatest.
35 Jesus sat down and called ·the twelve apostles [the Twelve] to him. He said, “Whoever wants to be ·the most important [first] must be last of all and servant of all.”
36 Then Jesus took a small child and had ·him [or her; C the Greek here does not specify gender] stand among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said, 37 “Whoever ·accepts [welcomes; receives] a child like this in my name [C as a representative or follower of Jesus] accepts me. And whoever ·accepts [welcomes; receives] me accepts [not only me, but] the One who sent me.” [C Children had low social status, so the saying indicates concern for the lowly.]
Anyone Not Against Us Is for Us(E)
38 Then John said, “Teacher, we saw someone using your name [C invoking your authority] to ·force [drive; cast] demons out of a person. We told him to stop, because he does not belong to our group.”
39 But Jesus said, “Don’t stop him, because anyone who uses my name to do powerful things will not ·easily [quickly] say evil things about me. 40 Whoever is not against us is ·with [for] us. 41 I tell you the truth, whoever gives you a drink of water because you belong to the ·Christ [Messiah] will ·truly get [L certainly not lose] his reward.
42 “If someone causes one of these little children who believes in me to ·sin [lose faith; stumble], it would be better for that person to have a ·large stone [large millstone; L millstone of a donkey] tied around his neck and be ·drowned [L thrown] in the sea. 43 If your hand causes you ·to sin [lose faith; stumble], cut it off. It is better for you ·to lose part of your body and live forever [L to enter life maimed] than to have two hands and go to ·hell [L Gehenna; C a valley outside of Jerusalem where in the OT period children were sacrificed to a pagan god; later used as a burning trash heap; a metaphor for hell], where the fire never goes out. |44 In hell the worm does not die; the fire is never put out.|[b] 45 If your foot causes you to ·sin [lose faith; stumble], cut it off. 2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

The Transfiguration(C)(D)
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(E) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white,(F) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(G) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(H) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(I)
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(J) what they had seen until the Son of Man(K) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(L) must suffer much(M) and be rejected?(N) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(O) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(P)
14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(Q)
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(R)
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(S) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(T) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[a]”
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(U)
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(V) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(W) and after three days(X) he will rise.”(Y) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(Z) and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum.(AA) When he was in the house,(AB) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(AC)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(AD)
36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms,(AE) he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”(AF)
Whoever Is Not Against Us Is for Us(AG)
38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”(AH)
39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us.(AI) 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.(AJ)
Causing to Stumble
42 “If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble,(AK) it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.(AL) 43 If your hand causes you to stumble,(AM) cut it off. Låt oss göra tre hyddor, en åt dig, en åt Mose och en åt Elia." 6 Han visste inte vad han skulle säga, så förskräckta var de. 7 Då kom ett moln och sänkte sig ner över dem, och ur molnet hördes en röst: "Denne är min Son, den Älskade. Lyssna till honom!" 8 Och plötsligt, när de såg sig omkring, såg de inte längre någon utom Jesus.
9 På vägen ner från berget sade han åt dem att inte berätta vad de hade sett förrän Människosonen uppstått från de döda. 10 De tog fasta på det ordet och talade med varandra om vad som menades med att uppstå från de döda. 11 De frågade honom: "Varför säger då de skriftlärda att Elia först måste komma?"[b] 12 Han sade till dem: "Elia kommer visserligen först och återupprättar allt. Men hur kan det då vara skrivet att Människosonen skall lida mycket och bli föraktad? 13 Jag säger er: Elia har verkligen kommit, och de gjorde med honom som de ville, som det är skrivet om honom."
Jesus botar en pojke med en stum ande
14 När de kom till de andra lärjungarna, såg de mycket folk omkring dem och skriftlärda som diskuterade med dem. 15 Så snart allt folket fick se Jesus blev de mycket häpna och skyndade fram och hälsade på honom. 16 Han frågade dem: "Vad är det ni diskuterar om?" 17 En man i skaran svarade honom: "Mästare, jag har fört till dig min son som har en stum ande. 18 Och var den än får tag i honom slår den ner honom, och han tuggar fradga och skär tänder och blir stel. Jag bad dina lärjungar driva ut den, men de kunde inte." 19 Jesus svarade dem: "Du släkte som inte vill tro! Hur länge måste jag vara hos er? Hur länge skall jag stå ut med er? För honom till mig!" 20 Och de kom med honom till Jesus. Så snart anden fick se honom slet den i pojken, och han föll till marken och vältrade sig och tuggade fradga. 21 Jesus frågade hans far: "Hur länge har det varit så med honom?" Fadern svarade: "Sedan han var barn. 22 Ofta kastar anden honom än i elden och än i vattnet för att ta livet av honom. Men om du kan, så förbarma dig över oss och hjälp oss!" 23 Jesus sade till honom: "Om du kan, säger du. Allt förmår den som tror." 24 Genast ropade barnets far: "Jag tror. Hjälp min otro!" 25 Jesus såg att ännu mer folk strömmade till, och han sade strängt till den orene anden: "Du stumme och döve ande, jag befaller dig: far ut ur honom och kom aldrig mer in i honom!" 26 Den orene anden skrek och ryckte våldsamt i honom och for ut. Pojken var som livlös, och de flesta sade att han var död. 27 Men Jesus tog honom i handen och reste upp honom, och han steg upp. 28 När Jesus hade kommit inomhus och lärjungarna var ensamma med honom, frågade de: "Varför kunde inte vi driva ut honom?" 29 Han svarade: "Detta slag kan endast drivas ut med bön."[c]
Jesus talar än en gång om sitt lidande
30 Sedan gick de därifrån och vandrade genom Galileen. Jesus ville inte att någon skulle få veta det, 31 eftersom han höll på att undervisa sina lärjungar. Han sade: "Människosonen skall utlämnas i människors händer, och de kommer att döda honom, och efter tre dagar skall han uppstå." 32 Men de förstod inte vad han sade och vågade inte fråga honom.
Vem är störst?
33 De kom till Kapernaum. När Jesus nu var hemma, frågade han dem: "Vad var det ni talade om på vägen?" 34 De teg, eftersom de på vägen hade talat med varandra om vem som var störst. 35 Jesus satte sig ner, kallade på de tolv och sade till dem: "Om någon vill vara den förste skall han vara den siste av alla och allas tjänare." 36 Sedan tog han ett litet barn och ställde det mitt ibland dem, slöt det i sin famn och sade till dem: 37 "Den som tar emot ett sådant barn i mitt namn, han tar emot mig. Och den som tar emot mig, han tar inte bara emot mig utan honom som har sänt mig."
Inte mot oss utan för oss
38 Johannes sade till Jesus: "Mästare, vi såg en man som drev ut onda andar i ditt namn, och vi försökte hindra honom eftersom han inte följde oss." 39 Men Jesus sade: "Hindra honom inte. Ingen som utför en kraftgärning i mitt namn kan sedan genast tala illa om mig. 40 Den som inte är mot oss är för oss. 41 Den som räcker er en bägare vatten att dricka därför att ni tillhör Kristus - amen säger jag er: Han skall inte gå miste om sin lön.
Frestelser och förförelser
42 Den som förleder en av dessa små som tror på mig, för honom är det bättre att en kvarnsten läggs om hans hals och han kastas i havet. 43 Om din hand förleder dig till synd, så hugg av den! Det är bättre för dig att gå in i livet stympad än att ha båda händerna i behåll och komma till Gehenna,[d] till elden som aldrig släcks.[e] 45 Och om din fot förleder dig till synd, så hugg av den! Det är bättre för dig att gå in i livet halt än att ha båda fötterna i behåll och kastas i Gehenna. 47 Och om ditt öga förleder dig till synd, så riv ut det! Det är bättre för dig att gå in i Guds rike med ett öga än att med båda ögonen i behåll kastas i Gehenna, 48 där deras mask inte dör och elden inte släcks. 49 Ty var och en skall saltas med eld. 50 Salt är bra, men om saltet förlorar sin sälta, hur skall ni då få det salt igen? Ha salt i er och håll fred med varandra!"
