撒種的比喻
4 耶穌又到湖邊講道，周圍聚集了許多人，耶穌只好上到湖邊的船上坐下，眾人都站在岸上。 2 耶穌用比喻教導他們許多事，在教導中祂說： 3 「聽著！有一個農夫出去撒種。 4 撒種的時候，有些種子落在路旁，被飛鳥吃掉了； 5 有些落在石頭地上，因為泥土不深，種子很快就發芽了， 6 然而因為沒有根，被太陽一曬就枯萎了； 7 有些落在荊棘叢中，荊棘長起來便把嫩苗擠住了，以致不能結實； 8 有些落在沃土裡，就發芽生長，結出果實，收成多達三十倍、六十倍、一百倍！」 9 然後祂說：「有耳可聽的，都應當聽。」
10 當耶穌獨自一人的時候，十二使徒和追隨祂的人來請教比喻的意思。 11 耶穌說：「上帝國的奧祕只讓你們知道，對於外人，我只用比喻， 12 使他們『看了又看，卻不領悟；聽了又聽，卻不明白，免得他們回心轉意，得到赦免。』」
13 耶穌又對他們說：「你們不明白這個比喻，又怎能明白其他比喻呢？ 14 農夫撒的是上帝的道。 15 種子落在路旁，是指人聽了道，撒旦立刻過來奪去了撒在他們心裡的道。 16 種子落在石頭地上，是指人聽了道後，立刻歡喜地接受了， 17 但他們心裡沒有根基，不過是暫時接受，一旦為道遭受患難和迫害，就立刻放棄了。 18 種子落在荊棘叢中，是指人雖然聽過道， 19 但生活的憂慮、錢財的迷惑和其他慾望把道擠住了，以致不能結出果實。 20 種子落在沃土裡，是指人聽了道，領受了，又結出果實，收成多達三十倍、六十倍、甚至一百倍。」
燈的比喻
21 耶穌繼續說：「人會把燈拿來放在籃子底下或床底下嗎？當然不會，他一定會把它放在燈臺上。 22 隱藏的事是不能掩蓋的，終會顯露出來。 23 有耳可聽的，就應當聽。」 24 耶穌又說：「要好好思想你們所聽到的，你們用什麼量器量給人，就用什麼量器量給你們，甚至要多給你們。 25 因為凡有的，還要給他更多；凡沒有的，連他僅有的也要奪去！」
種子生長的比喻
26 祂又說：「上帝的國就像一個人在地上撒種。 27 他天天日出而作，日落而息。種子就在他不知不覺中漸漸發芽長大。 28 大地會使種子生長，先發苗後吐穗，最終結出飽滿的籽粒。 29 莊稼成熟後，他就拿起鐮刀來收割，因為收成的時候到了。」
芥菜種的比喻
30 耶穌說：「我們拿什麼比作上帝的國呢？用什麼比喻來解釋呢？ 31 上帝的國就像一粒芥菜種。它是種子中最小的， 32 但種在地裡，卻能長得比各樣蔬菜都大，有粗大的枝條，可以讓飛鳥在它的樹蔭中築巢。」
33 耶穌用了許多類似的比喻，按照眾人所能領悟的，把上帝的道講給他們聽。 34 祂總是用比喻對他們講論，只有單獨和門徒在一起的時候，才把一切解釋清楚。
平息風浪
35 那天晚上，耶穌對門徒說：「我們渡到對面去吧。」 36 他們就離開眾人，上了耶穌乘坐的船，一起渡到湖的對岸，還有其他船隻跟著去。 37 忽然，湖面上狂風大作，波浪撞擊船身，船內幾乎灌滿了水。 38 耶穌卻還在船尾枕著枕頭睡覺。門徒叫醒了祂，說：「老師，我們快淹死了，你怎麼不管呢？」
39 耶穌起來斥責狂風，對著湖面說：「靜下來！停下來！」於是就風平浪靜了。 40 祂對門徒說：「你們為什麼這樣害怕呢？你們還是沒有信心嗎？」
41 他們極其害怕，彼此議論說：「祂到底是誰？連風浪都聽祂的！」
治好被鬼附身的人
5 他們來到湖對岸的格拉森地區。 2 耶穌剛下船，就遇見一個被污鬼附身的人從墳場迎面而來。 3 那人以墳場為家，從來沒有人能把他捆住，就算用鐵鏈也鎖不住他。 4 儘管有人多次用鐵鏈和腳鐐鎖住他，但他掙斷了鐵鏈，砸碎了腳鐐。沒有人能制伏他。 5 他晝夜在墳場和山野間大喊大叫，又用石頭砍自己。
6 他遠遠看見耶穌，就跑過去跪下來拜祂，喊著說： 7 「至高上帝的兒子耶穌啊，我和你有什麼關係？看在上帝的份上，求你不要折磨我！」 8 原來，耶穌已經對他身上的鬼說：「污鬼，從這人身上出來！」
9 耶穌問：「你叫什麼名字？」
他說：「我的名字叫『群』，因為我們是一大群。」
10 接著污鬼再三哀求耶穌，不要把牠們逐出那個地區。 11 當時有一大群豬在附近山坡上覓食。 12 污鬼就哀求耶穌說：「讓我們到豬群裡去，附在牠們身上吧！」
13 耶穌允許了，污鬼就離開那人，進入豬群。那群豬就一路奔下陡坡，衝進湖裡淹死了，約有兩千頭。
14 放豬的人都嚇跑了。他們把這消息傳遍了城裡鄉間，於是人人都跑來看個究竟。 15 他們到了耶穌那裡，看見那一度被群鬼附身的人神智清醒、衣著整齊地坐在那裡，都很害怕。 16 目睹這件事的人向他們講述整個經過。 17 他們請耶穌離開他們的地方。
18 耶穌上了船準備離開的時候，那被鬼附過的人懇求耶穌讓他隨行。 19 耶穌沒有答應，只對他說：「回去見你的家人，將主為你所做的事和祂憐憫你的經過告訴他們吧！」
20 這人就回到低加坡里一帶宣揚耶穌為他所行的奇事，大家都很驚奇。
耶穌醫治有信心的人
21 耶穌再坐船回到對岸，立刻有一大群人在岸邊圍著祂。 22 人群中有一位會堂的主管名叫雅魯，他一見到耶穌便俯伏在祂腳前， 23 懇求說：「我小女兒快要死了，求你去把手按在她身上，醫治她，救她一命。」
24 耶穌和他同去，一大群人跟著祂，擁擠著祂。
25 有一個婦人患血漏病已經十二年， 26 經過許多醫生的診治，受盡痛苦，耗盡錢財，病情仍沒有好轉，反而更加嚴重。 27 她聽見耶穌的事，就夾在人群中擠到耶穌背後摸祂的衣服， 28 心想：「只要摸到祂的衣服，我就痊癒了！」
29 她的血漏立刻停止了，她感到自己痊癒了。 30 耶穌馬上知道有能力從自己身上發出，便在人群中轉過身來問：「誰摸了我的衣服？」
31 門徒對祂說：「你看，這麼多人在你周圍擠來擠去，你怎麼問誰摸你呢？」
32 耶穌環視四周，要找出摸祂的人。 33 那婦人害怕得發抖，她知道在自己身上發生了什麼事，於是上前俯伏在耶穌面前，將實情說了出來。
34 耶穌說：「女兒，你的信心救了你。安心地回去吧！你的病好了。」
35 耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從雅魯家中趕來，對雅魯說：「你的女兒已經死了，何必麻煩老師呢？」
36 耶穌聽了，便對雅魯說：「不要怕，只要信。」 37 於是，祂帶著彼得、雅各和雅各的弟弟約翰去雅魯家，不准其他人跟著。 38 他們到了那裡，只見在場的人嚎啕大哭，場面混亂。 39 耶穌進去問道：「你們為什麼大哭大嚷呢？這孩子並沒有死，只是睡著了。」
40 這些人聽了，都譏笑祂。耶穌讓他們全部出去，然後帶著孩子的父母和三個門徒進了房間。 41 祂拉著孩子的手說：「大利大，古米！」意思是：「小女孩，我吩咐你起來！」
42 小女孩應聲而起，並且可以走動，那時她十二歲。在場的人都驚奇不已。 43 耶穌鄭重叮囑他們不要把這事張揚出去，又吩咐他們給女孩東西吃。
拿撒勒人厭棄耶穌
6 耶穌帶著門徒離開那地方，回到自己的家鄉。 2 到了安息日，祂開始在會堂裡教導人，眾人聽了都很驚奇，說：「這個人從哪裡學來這些本領？祂怎麼會有這種智慧？祂怎麼能行這樣的神蹟？ 3 這不是那個木匠嗎？祂不是瑪麗亞的兒子嗎？祂不是雅各、約西、猶大、西門的大哥嗎？祂的妹妹們不也住在我們這裡嗎？」他們就對祂很反感。
4 耶穌對他們說：「先知到處受人尊敬，只有在本鄉、本族、本家例外。」 5 耶穌不能在那裡行任何神蹟，只把手按在幾個病人身上，醫治了他們。 6 他們的不信令耶穌詫異，於是祂就去周圍的村莊教導人。
差遣十二使徒
7 耶穌召集了十二個使徒，差遣他們兩個兩個地出去，賜給他們制伏污鬼的權柄， 8 又吩咐他們除了手杖之外，不用帶食物和背囊，腰包裡也不要帶錢， 9 只穿一雙鞋子和一套衣服就夠了。 10 祂說：「你們無論到哪裡，就住在那些接待你們的人家裡，一直住到離開。 11 如果某地方的人不接待你們，不聽你們傳的道，你們在離開之前要跺掉腳上的塵土，作為對他們的警告！」
12 使徒便出去傳道，勸人悔改， 13 趕出許多鬼，為許多病人抹油，治好他們。
施洗者約翰遇害
14 耶穌聲名遠播，希律王也聽說了祂的事。有人說：「施洗者約翰從死裡復活了，所以能夠行這些神蹟。」
15 也有人說：「祂是先知以利亞。」
還有人說：「祂是個先知，跟古代的一位先知相似。」
16 希律聽到這些議論，就說：「祂一定是被我斬了頭的約翰從死裡復活了。」 17 原來希律娶了他兄弟腓力的妻子希羅底，並為她的緣故而派人逮捕了約翰，把他關押在監牢裡。 18 因為約翰屢次對希律說：「你娶弟弟的妻子不合法。」
19 希羅底對約翰懷恨在心，想要殺掉他，只是不能得逞。 20 因為希律知道約翰是個公義聖潔的人，所以敬畏他，並對他加以保護。儘管約翰所講的道理令他困惑不安，他仍然喜歡聽。
21 機會終於來了。希律在自己的生日那天設宴招待文武百官和加利利的顯要。 22 希羅底的女兒進來跳舞，甚得希律和客人的歡心。王對她說：「你想要什麼，只管說。」 23 王還對她起誓說：「無論你要什麼，哪怕是我的半壁江山，我都會給你。」
24 她便出去問她母親：「我應該要什麼呢？」
她母親說：「要施洗者約翰的頭！」
25 她馬上回去對王說：「願王立刻把施洗者約翰的頭放在盤子裡送給我。」
26 王聽了這個請求，感到十分為難，但因為在賓客面前起了誓言，就不好拒絕。 27 他立刻命令衛兵進監牢砍了約翰的頭， 28 放在盤子裡送給這女子，她又轉送給她母親。 29 約翰的門徒聽到這個消息，就來把約翰的屍體領回去，安葬在墳墓裡。
耶穌使五千人吃飽
30 使徒們聚集在耶穌身邊，向祂報告事工和傳道的經過。 31 耶穌對他們說：「你們私下跟我到僻靜的地方去歇一會兒吧。」因為當時來來往往找他們的人實在太多，他們連吃飯的時間都沒有。
32 他們乘船悄悄地到了一處僻靜的地方。 33 可是有許多人看見他們離開，認出了他們，便從各城鎮步行趕往那裡，比他們先到達。 34 耶穌一下船，看見這一大群人好像沒有牧人的羊，心裡憐憫他們，於是教導了他們許多道理。
35 天色晚了，門徒過來對耶穌說：「時候已經不早了，這裡又是荒郊野外， 36 請遣散眾人，好讓他們到周圍的村莊去自己買些吃的。」
37 耶穌說：「你們給他們吃的吧。」
門徒說：「我們哪來這麼多錢買東西給他們吃啊？」
38 耶穌說：「看看你們有多少餅。」
他們察看後，說：「有五個餅和兩條魚。」
39 耶穌吩咐門徒叫大家分組坐在草地上。 40 於是眾人坐下，有的五十人一組，有的一百人一組。 41 耶穌拿起那五個餅、兩條魚，舉目望著天祝謝後，掰開遞給門徒，讓他們分給眾人。祂又照樣把那兩條魚分給眾人。 42 大家都吃了，並且吃飽了。 43 門徒把剩下的碎餅、碎魚收拾起來，裝滿了十二個籃子。 44 當時吃餅的男人有五千。
耶穌在湖面上行走
45 隨後，耶穌催門徒上船，叫他們先渡到湖對岸的伯賽大，祂則遣散眾人。 46 祂辭別了眾人後，就上山去禱告。 47 到了晚上，門徒的船在湖中心，耶穌獨自留在岸上。 48 大約凌晨三點鐘，祂看見門徒在逆風中搖櫓，非常吃力，就從水面上朝門徒走去，想要從他們旁邊經過。 49 門徒看見有人在湖面上走，以為是幽靈，嚇得驚叫起來。 50 全船的人看見祂，都嚇壞了，耶穌立刻對他們說：「放心吧，是我，不要怕！」
51 耶穌上了船，來到他們那裡，風便停了。門徒心裡十分驚奇， 52 因為他們仍然不明白耶穌分餅那件事的意義，心裡還是愚頑。 53 他們渡到湖對岸，來到革尼撒勒，在那裡靠岸， 54 剛一下船，眾人立刻認出了耶穌。 55 他們跑遍那一帶地方，用墊子把生病的人抬來，聽到耶穌在哪裡，就把病人抬到哪裡。 56 耶穌不論到哪一個城市、鄉鎮和村莊，人們總是把病人抬到街市上，求耶穌讓他們摸一摸祂衣裳的穗邊，所有摸過的病人都好了。
傳統與誡命
7 有法利賽人和一些律法教師從耶路撒冷來見耶穌。 2 他們看到祂的門徒有些吃飯前沒有照禮儀洗手。 3 因為法利賽人和所有的猶太人都拘守古人的傳統，總是先照禮儀洗手之後才吃飯； 4 從市場回來也要先潔淨自己，然後才吃飯。他們還拘守許多其他規矩，如洗杯、罐、銅器等。
5 他們質問耶穌：「為什麼你的門徒違背祖先的傳統，竟用不潔淨的手吃飯呢？」
6 耶穌回答說：「以賽亞先知針對你們這些偽君子所說的預言一點不錯，正如聖經上說，
『這些人嘴上尊崇我，
心卻遠離我。
7 他們的教導無非是人的規條，
他們敬拜我也是枉然。』
8 你們只知拘守人的傳統，卻無視上帝的誡命。」 9 耶穌又對他們說：「你們為了拘守自己的傳統，竟巧妙地廢除了上帝的誡命。 10 摩西說，『要孝敬父母』，又說，『咒罵父母的，必被處死。』 11 你們卻認為人若對父母說，『我把供養你們的錢財已經全部奉獻給上帝了』， 12 他就可以不奉養父母。 13 你們就是這樣為了拘守傳統而廢除上帝的道，類似的情形還有很多。」
內心的污穢
14 耶穌又召集眾人，教導他們說：「我的話，你們要聽明白， 15 從外面進去的不會使人污穢，只有從人裡面發出來的才會使人污穢。 16 有耳可聽的，都應當聽！」
17 耶穌離開眾人，進了屋子，門徒問祂這比喻的意思。 18 耶穌說：「你們也不明白嗎？你們不知道嗎？從外面進去的，不會使人污穢， 19 因為不能進入他的心，只能進他的腸胃，最後會排出來，也就是說所有的食物都是潔淨的。 20 從人裡面發出來的才使人污穢， 21 因為從裡面，就是從人的心裡能夠生出惡念、苟合、偷盜、謀殺、 22 通姦、貪婪、邪惡、詭詐、放蕩、嫉妒、毀謗、驕傲、狂妄。 23 這一切惡事都是從裡面生出來的，能使人污穢。」
外族婦人的信心
24 耶穌從那裡啟程去泰爾和西頓地區。祂進了一戶人家，原本不想讓人知道，卻無法避開人們的注意。 25-26 當時有一個婦人的小女兒被污鬼附身，她聽見耶穌的事，就來俯伏在祂腳前，懇求祂趕出她女兒身上的鬼。這婦人是希臘人，來自敘利亞的腓尼基。
27 耶穌對她說：「要先讓兒女們吃飽，因為把兒女的食物丟給狗吃不合適。」
28 婦人說：「主啊，你說的對，但桌子下的狗也吃孩子們掉下來的碎渣呀！」
29 耶穌說：「因為你這句話，你回去吧，鬼已經離開你的女兒了。」
30 她回到家裡，見女兒躺在床上，鬼已經離開了。
醫治聾啞的人
31 耶穌離開泰爾地區，經過西頓，來到低加坡里地區的加利利湖。 32 有人帶著一個又聾又啞的人來見耶穌，懇求祂把手按在這個人身上。 33 耶穌就帶他離開眾人走到一邊，用指頭伸進他的耳朵，又吐唾沫抹他的舌頭， 34 望天長歎，對他說：「以法大！」意思是「開了吧！」 35 他的耳朵立刻開了，舌頭靈活了，說話也清楚了。 36 耶穌吩咐他們不要將這事告訴人。可是耶穌越是這樣吩咐，他們越是極力宣揚， 37 聽見的人都十分驚奇，說：「祂做的事好極了，甚至叫聾子聽見，啞巴說話！」
耶穌使四千人吃飽
8 那時，又有一大群人聚在一起，他們沒有東西吃。耶穌就叫來門徒，說： 2 「我憐憫這些人，他們跟我在一起已經三天，沒有任何吃的了。 3 如果讓他們餓著肚子回家，他們在路上會體力不支，因為有些人是遠道而來的。」
4 門徒說：「在這荒野，如何找到足夠的食物給這些人吃呢？」
5 耶穌問：「你們有多少餅？」
門徒答道：「七個。」
6 耶穌便吩咐大家坐在地上，然後拿著那七個餅祝謝了，掰開，遞給門徒，讓門徒分給大家，門徒就把餅分給大家。 7 他們還有幾條小魚。耶穌祝謝了，叫門徒分給眾人。 8 大家都吃了，並且吃飽了，剩下的零碎裝滿了七個筐子。 9 吃的人約有四千。耶穌讓眾人回家後， 10 隨即和門徒上船，來到大瑪努他地區。
11 法利賽人出來盤問耶穌，要求祂從天上顯一個神蹟給他們看看，藉此試探祂。 12 耶穌深深歎息道：「這世代的人為什麼總是要看神蹟呢？我實在告訴你們，沒有神蹟給這世代的人看。」 13 然後，耶穌離開他們，乘船回對岸去了。
防備法利賽人和希律的酵
14 門徒忘了帶餅，船上只有一個餅。 15 耶穌警告他們：「你們要謹慎，要提防法利賽人和希律的酵！」
16 他們彼此議論說：「老師這樣說，是不是因為我們沒有帶餅呢？」
17 耶穌知道他們的心思，就說：「你們為什麼議論沒有帶餅的事呢？難道你們還不明白、不領悟嗎？你們的心還是愚頑嗎？ 18 你們有眼不會看，有耳不會聽嗎？你們不記得嗎？ 19 我掰開五個餅分給五千人吃的時候，你們撿了多少籃的零碎呢？」
門徒答道：「十二籃。」
20 耶穌又說：「我用七個餅餵飽四千人的時候，你們撿了多少筐零碎呢？」
門徒答道：「七筐。」
21 耶穌接著說：「你們還不明白嗎？」
治好伯賽大的瞎子
22 他們到了伯賽大，有人帶來一個瞎子，求耶穌摸他。 23 耶穌拉著瞎子的手帶他走到村外，吐唾沫在他的眼睛上，並把手按在他身上，問他：「你看見什麼了？」
24 他抬頭看了看，說：「我看見人們好像一棵棵的樹，走來走去。」
25 耶穌把手按在他的眼睛上，他定睛一看，便恢復了視力，什麼都看得清清楚楚。 26 耶穌叫他回家，並對他說：「不要再進這個村子了。」
彼得宣告耶穌是基督
27 耶穌和門徒前往凱撒利亞·腓立比境內的村莊。在路上，祂問門徒：「別人說我是誰？」
28 他們說：「有人說你是施洗者約翰，有人說你是以利亞，有人說你是眾先知中的一位。」
29 耶穌又問他們：「那麼，你們說我是誰？」
彼得回答說：「你是基督！」
30 耶穌吩咐他們不要洩露祂的身分。
耶穌預言自己的受難和復活
31 從此，耶穌便告訴他們，人子必須受許多苦，被長老、祭司長和律法教師棄絕，殺害，但必在三天之後復活。 32 耶穌清楚地把這些事告訴了他們，彼得就把祂拉到一邊，勸阻祂。 33 耶穌轉身看了看門徒，斥責彼得說：「撒旦，退到我後面去！因為你不考慮上帝的意思，只考慮人的意思。」
34 祂叫眾人和門徒一起過來，對他們說：「如果有人要跟從我，就應當捨己，背起他的十字架跟從我。 35 因為想救自己生命的，必失去生命；但為了我和福音而失去生命的，必得到生命。 36 人就是賺得全世界，卻喪失自己的生命，又有什麼益處呢？ 37 他還能用什麼換回生命呢？
38 「在這淫亂、罪惡的世代，如果有人以我和我的道為恥，人子在父的榮耀中與聖天使再來的時候，也要以他為恥。」
9 耶穌繼續說：「我實在告訴你們，有些站在這裡的人會在有生之年看見上帝的國帶著能力降臨。」
登山變象
2 六天後，耶穌帶著彼得、雅各和約翰暗暗地登上一座高山。耶穌在他們面前改變了形像， 3 衣服變得潔白放光，世上找不到漂得那麼白的布。 4 這時，以利亞和摩西在他們眼前出現，與耶穌談話。 5 彼得對耶穌說：「老師，我們在這裡真好！我們搭三座帳篷吧，一座給你，一座給摩西，一座給以利亞。」
6 其實彼得當時不知說什麼才好，因為他們都很害怕。 7 就在這時候，有一朵雲彩飄來遮住他們，雲彩中有聲音說：「這是我的愛子，你們要聽從祂。」 8 門徒立刻四處觀看，發現沒有其他人，只有耶穌和他們在那裡。
9 下山的時候，耶穌叮囑他們在人子還沒有從死裡復活之前，不要把剛才看見的告訴別人。
10 門徒把這話謹記在心，彼此議論「從死裡復活」這句話的意思。 11 他們問耶穌：「律法教師為什麼說以利亞必須先來？」
12 耶穌回答說：「以利亞固然要先來復興一切，但為什麼聖經上說人子一定會飽受痛苦、遭人蔑視呢？ 13 其實我告訴你們，以利亞已經來了，人們卻任意對待他，正如聖經的記載。」
治好污鬼附身的孩子
14 他們與其他門徒會合時，看見一大群人圍住門徒，幾個律法教師正在跟他們辯論。 15 大家一看到耶穌，都十分驚奇，立刻跑上去迎接祂。 16 耶穌問門徒：「你們跟他們辯論什麼？」
17 人群中有一個人說：「老師，我帶了我的兒子來找你，因為他被啞巴鬼附身。 18 每次鬼控制他，把他摔在地上，他就口吐白沫，咬牙切齒，全身僵硬。我請你的門徒趕走那鬼，他們卻辦不到。」
19 耶穌說：「唉，這不信的世代啊！我要跟你們在一起待多久，容忍你們多久呢？把他帶到我這裡吧。」
20 他們把那孩子帶到耶穌面前。那鬼一見耶穌，就使孩子抽搐，倒在地上打滾，口吐白沫。 21 耶穌問孩子的父親：「他這樣子多久了？」孩子的父親回答道：「他從小就這樣， 22 鬼常常將他扔進火裡或水裡，要害他的命。如果你能，求你憐憫我們，幫助我們吧！」
23 耶穌說：「如果你能？對於相信的人，凡事都有可能！」
24 孩子的父親立刻喊著說：「我信！但我信心不足，求你幫助我！」
25 耶穌看見人群都跑了過來，就斥責那污鬼：「你這個聾啞鬼，我命令你從他身上出來，不許再進去！」
26 那鬼發出喊叫，使孩子劇烈地抽搐了一陣，就出來了。孩子躺在地上一動也不動，大家都以為他死了。 27 但耶穌拉著他的手扶他起來，他就站了起來。
28 耶穌進屋後，門徒悄悄問祂：「我們為什麼趕不走那鬼呢？」
29 耶穌說：「要趕走這類鬼只有靠禱告[a]。」
再次預言受難
30 他們離開那裡，途經加利利。耶穌不想任何人知道祂的行蹤， 31 因為祂在教導門徒。祂說：「人子將被交在人的手中，被他們殺害，但三天之後，祂必復活。」 32 門徒卻不明白這句話的意思，又不敢問祂。
誰最偉大
33 他們回到迦百農的住所，耶穌問門徒：「你們一路上爭論些什麼？」
34 他們都沉默不語，因為剛才他們在爭論誰最偉大。 35 耶穌坐下，叫十二個門徒過來，對他們說：「誰想為首，就該在眾人中做最小的，作眾人的僕人。」 36 祂領了一個小孩子來，叫他站在門徒中間，又抱起他，對他們說： 37 「任何人為我的緣故接待這樣一個小孩子，就是接待我；凡接待我的，不單是接待我，也是接待差我來的那位。」
警戒犯罪
38 約翰對耶穌說：「老師，我們看見有人奉你的名趕鬼，就阻止他，因為他不是跟從我們的。」
39 耶穌說：「不要阻止他，因為沒有人奉我的名行過神蹟後，會很快毀謗我。 40 不反對我們的，就是支持我們的。 41 我實在告訴你們，若有人因為你們屬於基督而給你們一杯水喝，他也必得到賞賜。
42 「但若有人使這樣一個小信徒失足犯罪，他的下場比把大磨石掛在他脖子上扔到海裡還要慘。 43 如果你一隻手使你犯罪，就砍掉它！ 44 拖著殘廢的身體進入永生，勝過雙手健全卻落入地獄不滅的火中。 45 倘若你一隻腳使你犯罪，就砍掉它！瘸著腿進入永生， 46 勝過雙腳健全卻被丟進地獄！ 47 如果你的一隻眼睛使你犯罪，就剜掉它！獨眼進上帝的國，勝過雙目健全卻被丟進地獄。 48 在那裡，
『蟲是不死的，
火是不滅的。』
49 「每個人都要被火煉，像被鹽醃一樣。 50 鹽是好東西，但如果失去鹹味，怎能使它再鹹呢？你們裡面要有鹽，要彼此和睦。」
論婚姻
10 耶穌離開那裡，來到猶太地區和約旦河河東岸，人群又聚集到祂那裡。耶穌像往常一樣教導他們。 2 一些法利賽人想試探耶穌，就來問祂：「男人可以休妻嗎？」 3 耶穌反問道：「摩西怎麼吩咐你們的？」
4 他們說：「摩西准許人寫休書休妻。」
5 耶穌說：「摩西因為你們心硬，才給你們寫了這條誡命。 6 太初創造時，『上帝造了男人和女人。』 7 『因此，人要離開父母，與妻子結合， 8 二人成為一體。』這樣，夫妻不再是兩個人，而是一體了。 9 因此，上帝配合的，人不可分開。」
10 回到屋裡後，門徒追問耶穌這件事。 11 耶穌說：「任何人休妻另娶，就是對妻子不忠，是犯通姦罪。 12 同樣，妻子若離棄丈夫另嫁，也是犯通姦罪。」
祝福孩童
13 有人帶著小孩子來要讓耶穌摸一摸，門徒卻責備他們。 14 耶穌看見後很生氣，對門徒說：「讓小孩子到我這裡來，不要阻止他們，因為上帝的國屬於這樣的人。 15 我實在告訴你們，人若不像小孩子一樣接受上帝的國，絕不能進去。」 16 於是，耶穌抱起小孩子，把手按在他們身上，為他們祝福。
永生的代價
17 耶穌正要上路，有一個人跑來跪在祂跟前，問祂：「良善的老師，我該做什麼才能承受永生？」
18 耶穌說：「你為什麼稱呼我『良善的老師』呢？只有上帝是良善的。 19 你知道『不可殺人，不可通姦，不可偷盜，不可作偽證，不可欺詐，要孝敬父母』這些誡命。」
20 那人說：「老師，我從小就遵行這些誡命。」
21 耶穌望著他，心中愛他，便說：「你還有一件事沒有做，就是變賣你所有的產業，送給窮人，你必有財寶存在天上，然後你還要來跟從我。」
22 那人聽了，臉色驟變，便沮喪地走了，因為他有許多產業。 23 耶穌看看周圍的人，對門徒說：「有錢人進上帝的國真難啊！」
24 門徒聽了感到驚奇，耶穌便再次對他們說：「孩子們，[b]進上帝的國多麼難啊！ 25 駱駝穿過針眼比有錢人進上帝的國還容易呢！」
26 門徒更加驚奇，便議論說：「這樣，誰能得救呢？」
27 耶穌看著他們說：「對人而言，這不可能，但對上帝而言，凡事都可能。」
28 彼得說：「你看，我們已經撇下一切來跟從你了。」
29 耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，任何人為了我和福音而撇下房屋、弟兄、姊妹、父母、兒女或田地， 30 今世必在房屋、弟兄、姊妹、父母、兒女或田地方面獲得百倍的回報，來世必得永生。當然他也會受到迫害。 31 然而，許多為首的將要殿後，殿後的將要為首。」
耶穌第三次預言自己的受難
32 在前往耶路撒冷的路上，耶穌走在眾人前面，門徒感到驚奇，其他跟隨的人也很害怕。
耶穌把十二個門徒叫到一旁，再把自己將要遭遇的事告訴他們，說： 33 「聽著，我們現在前往耶路撒冷。人子將被交在祭司長和律法教師的手中，他們要判祂死刑，把祂交給外族人。 34 他們會嘲弄祂，向祂吐唾沫，鞭打祂，殺害祂。但是，三天之後祂必復活！」
雅各與約翰的請求
35 西庇太的兩個兒子雅各和約翰上前對耶穌說：「老師，請你答應我們一個要求。」
36 耶穌問：「什麼要求？」
37 他們說：「在你的榮耀中，求你讓我們一個坐在你右邊，一個坐在你左邊。」
38 耶穌說：「你們不知道自己在求什麼。我要喝的那杯，你們能喝嗎？我要受的洗，你們能受嗎？」
39 他們說：「我們能。」
耶穌說：「我要喝的那杯，你們也要喝；我所受的洗，你們也要受。 40 不過誰坐在我的左右不是我來定，而是為誰預備的，就讓誰坐。」
41 其他十個門徒聽見這事後，很生雅各和約翰的氣。 42 於是，耶穌把他們叫來，對他們說：「你們知道，外族人有君王統治他們，有大臣管理他們， 43 但你們不可這樣。你們中間誰要當首領，誰就要做大家的僕人； 44 誰要居首位，誰就要做大家的奴僕。 45 因為就連人子也不是來受人服侍，而是來服侍人，並且犧牲性命，作許多人的贖價。」
治好瞎子巴底買
46 耶穌和門徒來到耶利哥。當耶穌和門徒及眾人出城的時候，碰到一個瞎眼的乞丐坐在路旁乞討，他的名字叫巴底買，是底買的兒子。 47 巴底買一聽到經過的是拿撒勒人耶穌，就喊道：「大衛的後裔耶穌啊，可憐我吧！」
48 許多人都責備他，叫他不要吵，但他卻更加大聲喊道：「大衛的後裔啊，可憐我吧！」
49 耶穌停下腳步，叫人帶他過來。
他們就對瞎子巴底買說：「好了，起來吧，祂叫你呢。」
50 巴底買丟下外衣，跳了起來，走到耶穌面前。
51 耶穌問他：「你要我為你做什麼？」
瞎子說：「老師，我想能夠看見。」
52 耶穌說：「回去吧！你的信心救[c]了你。」那人立刻得見光明，在路上跟從了耶穌。
騎驢進耶路撒冷
11 耶穌和門徒將近耶路撒冷，快到橄欖山附近的伯法其和伯大尼兩個村莊時，祂派了兩個門徒， 2 對他們說：「你們去前面的村莊，一進村就會看見一頭從來沒有人騎過的驢駒拴在那裡，你們把牠解開牽來。 3 若有人問你們為什麼這樣做，就說，『主要用牠，很快會把牠送回來。』」 4 他們進了村子，果然看見有一頭驢駒拴在街道旁一戶人家的門外，就上前解開牠。 5 旁邊站著的幾個人就問他們：「你們為什麼要解開這頭驢駒？」
6 門徒依照耶穌的吩咐回答，那些人就讓他們牽走了。 7 他們把驢駒牽到耶穌面前，將自己的外衣搭在驢背上，耶穌就騎了上去。 8 很多人把衣服鋪在路上，有人將田間的樹枝砍下來鋪在路上。 9 大家前呼後擁，高聲歡呼：
「和散那[d]！
奉主名來的當受稱頌！
10 那將要來臨的我祖大衛的國度當受稱頌！
和散那歸於至高之處的上帝！」
11 耶穌進了耶路撒冷，來到聖殿，巡視各處。那時天色已晚，耶穌便和十二門徒出城前往伯大尼。
咒詛無花果樹
12 第二天，他們離開伯大尼後，耶穌餓了。 13 祂遠遠看見有一棵枝葉茂盛的無花果樹，就走過去找果子吃。到了樹下，卻什麼也找不到，只有滿樹的葉子，因為當時不是收無花果的季節。 14 祂對那棵樹說：「願無人再吃你的果子！」祂的門徒都聽見了這句話。
潔淨聖殿
15 他們來到耶路撒冷後，耶穌進入聖殿，趕走了裡面做買賣的人，推翻了兌換錢幣之人的桌子和賣鴿子之人的凳子， 16 不准人抬著貨物穿過聖殿。 17 祂教導他們說：「聖經上不是記載『我的殿必稱為萬民禱告的殿』嗎？你們竟把它變成了賊窩。」
18 祭司長和律法教師聽到這番話後，就策劃如何殺害耶穌，只是有些怕祂，因為百姓都對祂的教導感到驚奇。 19 到了傍晚，耶穌和門徒去了城外。
無花果樹的教訓
20 早上，他們又經過那棵無花果樹，看見它連根都枯了。 21 彼得想起昨天發生的事，就對耶穌說：「老師，你看！昨天你咒詛的無花果樹已經枯了。」
22 耶穌說：「要對上帝有信心。 23 我實在告訴你們，不論何人，只要有信心，毫不疑惑，就是對這座山說，『從這裡挪開，投進大海裡！』也必定為他成就。 24 所以我告訴你們，你們禱告時無論求什麼，只要相信已經得到了，就必得到。 25 你們站著禱告的時候，若想起有人得罪了你們，就要饒恕他。這樣，你們天上的父也會饒恕你們的過犯。 26 你們如果不饒恕別人，你們天上的父也不會饒恕你們的過犯。[e]」
質問耶穌的權柄
27 他們再次回到耶路撒冷。耶穌在聖殿裡行走的時候，祭司長、律法教師和長老上前質問祂： 28 「你憑什麼權柄做這些事？誰授權給你了？」
29 耶穌說：「我也要問你們一個問題，你們回答了，我就告訴你們我憑什麼權柄做這些事。 30 約翰的洗禮是從天上來的還是從人來的？請回答我！」
31 他們彼此議論說：「如果我們說『是從天上來的』，祂一定會問，『那你們為什麼不信他？』 32 如果我們說『是從人來的』，又怕觸怒百姓，因為他們都相信約翰真的是先知。」 33 於是，他們回答說：「我們不知道。」耶穌說：「我也不告訴你們我憑什麼權柄做這些事。」
兇狠的佃戶
12 耶穌用比喻對他們說：「有人開闢了一個葡萄園，在四周築起籬笆，又在園中挖了一個榨酒池，建了一座瞭望臺，然後把葡萄園租給佃戶，就出遠門了。
2 「到葡萄成熟時，園主派一個奴僕去收取他該得的一份。 3 那些佃戶卻捉住那個奴僕，打了他一頓，使他空手而歸。
4 「園主又差另一個奴僕去。這一次，佃戶不但侮辱他，還把他打得頭破血流。 5 園主再派一個奴僕前往，他們卻把他殺掉了。園主後來派去的人不是挨打，就是被殺。 6 最後只剩下園主的愛子，園主就派他去，以為那些佃戶會尊重他的兒子。 7 這班佃戶卻彼此商量說，『這個就是園主的繼承人。來吧！我們殺掉他，產業就歸我們了。』
8 「於是他們抓住他，殺了他，把他拋到葡萄園外。 9 那麼，園主會採取什麼行動呢？他必定會來殺掉這些佃戶，把葡萄園轉給別人。 10 聖經上說，
『工匠丟棄的石頭已成了房角石。
11 這是主的作為，
在我們看來奇妙莫測。』
你們沒有讀過這經文嗎？」
12 他們聽出這比喻是針對他們說的，就想逮捕耶穌，但又害怕百姓，只好先離開了。
納稅給凱撒的問題
13 後來，他們派了幾個法利賽人和希律黨人到耶穌那裡，企圖利用祂所說的話設計陷害祂。
14 他們上前對耶穌說：「老師，我們知道你誠實無偽，不看人的情面，因為你不以貌取人，而是按真理傳上帝的道。那麼，向凱撒納稅對不對呢？ 15 我們該不該納呢？」耶穌看破他們的陰謀，就說：「你們為什麼試探我呢？拿一個銀幣來給我看。」
16 他們就拿來一個銀幣，耶穌問他們：「上面刻的是誰的像和名號？」
他們說：「凱撒的。」
17 耶穌說：「屬於凱撒的東西應該給凱撒，屬於上帝的東西應該給上帝。」
他們聽了這話，都很驚奇。
論復活
18 撒都該人向來不相信有復活的事，他們來問耶穌： 19 「老師，摩西為我們寫下律例，如果一個人死了，遺下妻子，又沒有兒女，他的兄弟就當娶嫂嫂，替哥哥傳宗接代。 20 有弟兄七人，老大結了婚，沒有孩子就死了。 21 二弟把大嫂娶過來，也沒有生孩子就死了，三弟也是一樣， 22 七個人都沒有留下孩子。最後，那女人也死了。 23 那麼，到復活的時候，她將是誰的妻子呢？因為七個人都娶過她。」
24 耶穌說：「你們弄錯了，因為你們不明白聖經，也不知道上帝的能力。 25 死人復活之後，將不娶也不嫁，就像天上的天使一樣。 26 關於死人復活的事，你們沒有讀過摩西書有關火中荊棘的記載嗎？上帝對摩西說，『我是亞伯拉罕的上帝，以撒的上帝，雅各的上帝。』 27 上帝不是死人的上帝，而是活人的上帝。你們大錯了！」
最大的誡命
28 有一位律法教師聽到他們的辯論，覺得耶穌的回答很精彩，就走過去問道：「誡命中哪一條最重要呢？」
29 耶穌回答道：「最重要的誡命是，『聽啊，以色列！主——我們的上帝是獨一的主。 30 你要全心、全情、全意、全力愛主——你的上帝』； 31 其次就是『要愛鄰如己』。再也沒有任何誡命比這兩條更重要了。」
32 那位律法教師說：「老師，你說得對，上帝只有一位，除祂以外，別無他神。 33 我們要全心、全意、全力愛祂，又要愛鄰如己。這樣做比獻什麼祭都好。」
34 耶穌見他答得很有智慧，就告訴他：「你離上帝的國不遠了。」此後，沒人再敢問耶穌問題了。
基督的身分
35 耶穌在聖殿裡教導的時候，問道：「律法教師為什麼說基督是大衛的後裔呢？ 36 大衛自己曾經受聖靈的感動，說，
『主對我主說，
你坐在我的右邊，
等我使你的仇敵伏在你腳下。』
37 既然大衛自己稱基督為主，基督又怎能是大衛的後裔呢？」百姓聽得津津有味。 38 耶穌又教導他們，說：「你們要提防律法教師，他們愛穿著長袍招搖過市，喜歡人們在大街上問候他們， 39 又喜歡會堂裡的上座和宴席中的首位。 40 他們侵吞寡婦的財產，還假意做冗長的禱告。這種人必受到更嚴厲的懲罰。」
窮寡婦的奉獻
41 然後，耶穌走到聖殿的奉獻箱對面坐下，看大家怎樣奉獻。很多財主奉獻了大量的錢。 42 後來一個窮寡婦來了，投進了相當於一文錢的兩個小銅錢。 43 耶穌叫門徒來，說：「我實在告訴你們，這位窮寡婦比其他人奉獻的都多， 44 因為他們不過奉獻了自己剩餘的，但這窮寡婦卻奉獻了她賴以為生的。」
預言聖殿被毀
13 耶穌走出聖殿的時候，有一個門徒對祂說：「老師，你看！這是多麼大的石頭，多麼宏偉的建築啊！」
2 耶穌說：「你看見這宏偉的建築了嗎？將來它要被完全拆毀，找不到兩塊疊在一起的石頭。」
3 耶穌面向聖殿坐在橄欖山上，彼得、雅各、約翰和安得烈私下來問祂： 4 「請告訴我們，這些事什麼時候會發生？有什麼預兆？」
5 耶穌對他們說：「你們要小心，免得被人迷惑。 6 將有很多人冒我的名來，說，『我是基督』，欺騙許多人。
7 「你們聽見戰爭爆發、戰訊頻傳時，不要驚慌，因為這些事必然發生，只是末日還沒有到。
8 「民族將與民族互鬥，國家將與國家相爭，各處將有地震和饑荒。這些只是災難[f]的開始。
9 「你們要小心，因為你們將被送上法庭，將在會堂裡受鞭打，又將為了我的緣故在官長和君王面前做見證。 10 不過，福音一定要先傳遍天下。 11 你們被拘捕，受審訊的時候，不用預先考慮怎樣辯解，到時候賜給你們什麼話，你們就說什麼話，因為那時候說話的不是你們自己，而是聖靈。
12 「那時，人必把自己的弟兄置於死地，父親必把兒子置於死地，兒女必反叛父母，置他們於死地。 13 你們將為我的名而被眾人憎恨，但堅忍到底的必定得救。
大災難
14 「當你們看見『那帶來毀滅的可憎之物』站在不當站的地方時（讀者須會意），住在猶太地區的人要逃到山上去； 15 在屋頂上的人不要下來，不要進房屋收拾行李； 16 在田間的人不要回家取外衣。 17 那時，孕婦和哺育嬰兒的母親們可就遭殃了！ 18 你們要祈求上帝使這些事不要在冬天發生， 19 因為那是上帝創造天地以來空前絕後的大災難。 20 如果主不縮短災期，恐怕沒有人能活命，但為了祂所揀選的子民，祂已經縮短災期。 21 那時，如果有人對你們說，『看啊！基督在這裡』，或說，『基督在那裡』，你們不要相信。 22 因為假基督和假先知將出現，行各種神蹟奇事，如果可能，甚至會迷惑上帝揀選的子民。 23 你們要小心，我已經把一切預先告訴你們了。
人子降臨
24 「大災難過後，
太陽昏暗，
月亮無光，
25 星宿隕落，
天體震動。
26 那時，世人必看到人子駕著雲、帶著極大的能力和榮耀降臨。 27 祂必差遣天使從四面八方、天涯海角招聚祂揀選的人。
28 「你們可以從無花果樹學個道理。當無花果樹發芽長葉的時候，你們就知道夏天快來了。 29 同樣，當你們看見這些事情發生時，就知道人子快來了，就在門口。 30 我實在告訴你們，這個世代還沒有過去，這一切都要發生。 31 天地都要過去，我的話卻永遠長存。
32 「但沒有人知道那日子和時辰何時來到，連天上的天使和人子都不知道，只有天父知道。 33 你們要小心，警醒禱告，因為你們不知道那日子何時來到。
34 「這就好像一個人在出遠門之前，把家中的事交給僕人，讓他們各做各的工作，又吩咐守門的人要警醒。 35 所以你們要警醒，因為你們不知道主人什麼時候回來，可能是黃昏，可能是夜半，也可能是黎明或早上。 36 別讓他突然回來時看到你們在睡覺。 37 我勸你們也勸所有的人，要警醒！」
謀害耶穌
14 再過兩天就是逾越節和除酵節，祭司長和律法教師正暗暗地找機會拘捕、殺害耶穌。
2 他們說：「我們不能在節期那天下手，以免在百姓中引起騷亂。」
耶穌受膏
3 耶穌在伯大尼村患過痲瘋病的西門家裡吃飯，有個女人帶了一瓶極貴重的純哪噠香膏進來，把玉瓶打破，將香膏倒在耶穌頭上。 4 有些人生氣地彼此議論說：「為什麼這樣浪費？ 5 這瓶香膏可以賣三百多個銀幣[g]來賙濟窮人。」他們就責備那女人。
6 耶穌說：「隨她吧！何必為難她呢？她在我身上做的是一件美事。 7 因為你們身邊總會有窮人，你們隨時都可以幫助他們，可是你們身邊不會總有我。 8 她做了自己能做的。她是為我的安葬做準備，提前用香膏抹了我的身體。 9 我實在告訴你們，無論福音傳到世界哪個角落，人們都會傳揚這女人的事蹟，紀念她。」
猶大出賣耶穌
10 十二門徒當中的加略人猶大去見祭司長，要把耶穌出賣給他們。 11 他們聽了喜出望外，答應給他酬金。於是猶大伺機出賣耶穌。
最後的晚餐
12 除酵節的第一天，就是宰殺逾越節羔羊的那天，門徒問耶穌：「我們該到什麼地方為你準備逾越節的晚餐呢？」
13 耶穌就派了兩個門徒，並囑咐他們：「你們進城會看到一個人帶著一瓶水迎面而來，你們就跟著他。 14 他進哪一家，你們也跟著進去，對那家的主人說，『我們的老師問你，祂的客房在哪裡，祂要和門徒在裡面吃逾越節的晚餐。』 15 主人會帶你們到樓上一間布置整齊的大房間，你們就在那裡準備吧。」
16 兩個門徒出去，進了城，所遇見的果然和耶穌所說的一樣。他們預備了逾越節的晚餐。
17 傍晚時分，耶穌帶著十二門徒來了。 18 用餐的時候，耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，你們中間有一個人要出賣我，他現在正和我同桌吃飯。」
19 他們聽了都感到不安，一個一個地問耶穌：「不是我吧？」 20 耶穌說：「是你們十二個人中的一個，他現在正和我一起在盤子裡蘸餅吃。 21 人子一定會受害，正如聖經的記載，但出賣人子的人有禍了，他還不如不生在這世上！」
22 他們吃的時候，耶穌拿起餅來，祝謝後，便掰開，分給門徒，說：「拿去吃吧！這是我的身體。」 23 接著又拿起杯來，祝謝後，遞給他們，他們都喝了。 24 耶穌說：「這是我為萬人所流的立約之血。 25 我實在告訴你們，從今天起，一直到我在上帝的國喝新酒的那天之前，我不會再喝這葡萄酒。」
26 他們唱完詩歌，就出門去了橄欖山。
預言彼得不認主
27 耶穌對他們說：「你們都要背棄我，因為聖經上說，
『我要擊打牧人，
羊群將四散。』
28 但我復活後，要先你們一步去加利利。」
29 彼得說：「即使所有人都背棄你，我也決不會背棄你！」
30 耶穌說：「我實在告訴你，就在今天晚上雞叫兩次以前，你會三次不認我。」
31 彼得鄭重地說：「就算要我跟你一起死，我也不會不認你。」其他門徒也都這樣說。
客西馬尼園的禱告
32 他們到了客西馬尼園，耶穌對門徒說：「你們坐在這裡，我要去禱告。」
33 於是耶穌帶著彼得、雅各和約翰向前走。祂覺得極其難過，非常傷痛， 34 說：「我心裡非常憂傷，幾乎要死，你們留在這裡警醒。」 35 耶穌往前走了不遠，俯伏在地禱告，如果可以，不要讓那時刻臨到祂。
36 祂說：「阿爸，父啊，你無所不能，求你撤去此杯。然而，願你的旨意成就，而非我的意願。」
37 祂回來，見他們都睡著了，就對彼得說：「西門，你在睡覺嗎？你不能警醒一時嗎？ 38 你們要警醒禱告，免得陷入誘惑。你們的心靈雖然願意，肉體卻很軟弱。」
39 耶穌又去禱告，所祈求的跟上次一樣。 40 祂回來時見他們又睡著了，因為他們睏得眼皮發沉，也不知道對祂說什麼。 41 祂第三次禱告回來後，對他們說：「你們還在睡覺休息嗎？夠了，時候到了，看啊，人子要被出賣、交在罪人的手裡了。 42 起來，我們走吧。看啊，出賣我的人已經來了！」
耶穌被捕

大祭司審問耶穌
53 他們把耶穌押到大祭司那裡，眾祭司長、長老和律法教師都來了。 54 那時彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，一直來到大祭司的院子，與衛兵們坐在一起烤火。 55 祭司長和全公會的人正在尋找證據控告耶穌，要定祂死罪，只是找不到。 56 不少人作偽證控告祂，他們的證詞卻不一致。 57 後來，有幾個人站起來作偽證說： 58 「我們聽見祂說，『我要拆毀這座人手建造的聖殿，三天內不靠人力另造一座。』」 59 即使這樣，他們的證詞也不一致。
60 最後，大祭司在眾人面前站起來質問耶穌：「你不回答嗎？這些人作證控告你的是什麼呢？」
61 耶穌還是沉默不語，什麼也不答。大祭司又問祂：「你是那當受稱頌者的兒子基督嗎？」 62 耶穌說：「我是！將來你們要看見人子坐在全能上帝的右邊，駕著天上的雲降臨。」
63 大祭司便撕裂衣服，說：「我們還需要什麼證人呢？ 64 你們聽見祂說褻瀆的話了，你們看怎麼辦？」他們都判祂死罪。
65 有幾個人向祂吐唾沫，蒙上祂的眼睛，揮拳打祂，嘲笑祂說：「你說預言吧！」衛兵押祂下去時，也打祂。
彼得三次不認耶穌
66 那時，彼得仍在院子裡，大祭司的一個婢女走過來， 67 見彼得在烤火，打量了他一番，說：「你也是那個拿撒勒人耶穌的同夥。」
68 「我不知道也不明白你在說什麼！」彼得一邊否認，一邊躲到外院去。那時，雞叫了。
69 一會兒，那婢女又看見彼得，就對旁邊的人說：「他是跟他們一夥的！」 70 彼得又加以否認。
再過了一會兒，旁觀的人也指著彼得說：「你一定是跟他們一夥的，因為你也是加利利人！」

The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)
4 Again Jesus began to teach by the lake.(C) The crowd that gathered around him was so large that he got into a boat and sat in it out on the lake, while all the people were along the shore at the water’s edge. 2 He taught them many things by parables,(D) and in his teaching said: 3 “Listen! A farmer went out to sow his seed.(E) 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, some multiplying thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times.”(F)
9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(G)
10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables. 11 He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God(H) has been given to you. But to those on the outside(I) everything is said in parables 12 so that,
“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,
and ever hearing but never understanding;
otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’[a]”(J)
13 Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? 14 The farmer sows the word.(K) 15 Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan(L) comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. 16 Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. 17 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth(M) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. 20 Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”
A Lamp on a Stand
21 He said to them, “Do you bring in a lamp to put it under a bowl or a bed? Instead, don’t you put it on its stand?(N) 22 For whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.(O) 23 If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear.”(P)
24 “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.(Q) 25 Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.”(R)
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like.(S) A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”(T)
The Parable of the Mustard Seed(U)
30 Again he said, “What shall we say the kingdom of God is like,(V) or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.”
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand.(W) 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable.(X) But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.
Jesus Calms the Storm(Y)
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat.(Z) There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”(AA)
41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(AB)(AC)
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[b] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat,(AD) a man with an impure spirit(AE) came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(AF) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(AG) In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,”(AH) he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion(AI) of demons,(AJ) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them(AK) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[c](AL) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(AM)
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,(AN) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.(AO) 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(AP) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(AQ) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(AR) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(AS) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(AT)
30 At once Jesus realized that power(AU) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(AV) Go in peace(AW) and be freed from your suffering.”
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(AX) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing[d] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(AY) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(AZ) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(BA) 40 But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(BB) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(BC) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(BD) and told them to give her something to eat.
A Prophet Without Honor(BE)
6 Jesus left there and went to his hometown,(BF) accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came,(BG) he began to teach in the synagogue,(BH) and many who heard him were amazed.(BI)
“Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph,[e] Judas and Simon?(BJ) Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him.(BK)
4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”(BL) 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on(BM) a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith.
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve(BN)
Then Jesus went around teaching from village to village.(BO) 7 Calling the Twelve to him,(BP) he began to send them out two by two(BQ) and gave them authority over impure spirits.(BR)
8 These were his instructions: “Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts. 9 Wear sandals but not an extra shirt. 10 Whenever you enter a house, stay there until you leave that town. 11 And if any place will not welcome you or listen to you, leave that place and shake the dust off your feet(BS) as a testimony against them.”
12 They went out and preached that people should repent.(BT) 13 They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil(BU) and healed them.
John the Baptist Beheaded(BV)(BW)
14 King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying,[f] “John the Baptist(BX) has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.”
15 Others said, “He is Elijah.”(BY)
And still others claimed, “He is a prophet,(BZ) like one of the prophets of long ago.”(CA)
16 But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”
17 For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had him bound and put in prison.(CB) He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”(CC) 19 So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, 20 because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man.(CD) When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled[g]; yet he liked to listen to him.
21 Finally the opportune time came. On his birthday Herod gave a banquet(CE) for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee.(CF) 22 When the daughter of[h] Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests.
The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” 23 And he promised her with an oath, “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.”(CG)
24 She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?”
“The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.
25 At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
26 The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27 So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, 28 and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother. 29 On hearing of this, John’s disciples came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.
Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand(CH)(CI)
30 The apostles(CJ) gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught.(CK) 31 Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat,(CL) he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
32 So they went away by themselves in a boat(CM) to a solitary place. 33 But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. 34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.(CN) So he began teaching them many things.
35 By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and it’s already very late. 36 Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”
37 But he answered, “You give them something to eat.”(CO)
They said to him, “That would take more than half a year’s wages[i]! Are we to go and spend that much on bread and give it to them to eat?”
38 “How many loaves do you have?” he asked. “Go and see.”
When they found out, they said, “Five—and two fish.”(CP)
39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.(CQ) Then he gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied, 43 and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces of bread and fish. 44 The number of the men who had eaten was five thousand.
Jesus Walks on the Water(CR)(CS)
45 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat(CT) and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida,(CU) while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray.(CV)
47 Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost.(CW) They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified.
Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”(CX) 51 Then he climbed into the boat(CY) with them, and the wind died down.(CZ) They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.(DA)
53 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there.(DB) 54 As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. 55 They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he went—into villages, towns or countryside—they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak,(DC) and all who touched it were healed.
That Which Defiles(DD)
7 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus 2 and saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled,(DE) that is, unwashed. 3 (The Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they give their hands a ceremonial washing, holding to the tradition of the elders.(DF) 4 When they come from the marketplace they do not eat unless they wash. And they observe many other traditions, such as the washing of cups, pitchers and kettles.[j])(DG)
5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, “Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders(DH) instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”
6 He replied, “Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
“‘These people honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.’[k](DI)
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”(DJ)
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe[l] your own traditions!(DK) 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,’[m](DL) and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’[n](DM) 11 But you say(DN) that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God)— 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God(DO) by your tradition(DP) that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
14 Again Jesus called the crowd to him and said, “Listen to me, everyone, and understand this. 15 Nothing outside a person can defile them by going into them. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles them.” [16] [o]
17 After he had left the crowd and entered the house, his disciples asked him(DQ) about this parable. 18 “Are you so dull?” he asked. “Don’t you see that nothing that enters a person from the outside can defile them? 19 For it doesn’t go into their heart but into their stomach, and then out of the body.” (In saying this, Jesus declared all foods(DR) clean.)(DS)
20 He went on: “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. 21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed,(DT) malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Jesus Honors a Syrophoenician Woman’s Faith(DU)
24 Jesus left that place and went to the vicinity of Tyre.[p](DV) He entered a house and did not want anyone to know it; yet he could not keep his presence secret. 25 In fact, as soon as she heard about him, a woman whose little daughter was possessed by an impure spirit(DW) came and fell at his feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter.
27 “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
28 “Lord,” she replied, “even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.”
29 Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.”
30 She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.
Jesus Heals a Deaf and Mute Man(DX)
31 Then Jesus left the vicinity of Tyre(DY) and went through Sidon, down to the Sea of Galilee(DZ) and into the region of the Decapolis.[q](EA) 32 There some people brought to him a man who was deaf and could hardly talk,(EB) and they begged Jesus to place his hand on(EC) him.
33 After he took him aside, away from the crowd, Jesus put his fingers into the man’s ears. Then he spit(ED) and touched the man’s tongue. 34 He looked up to heaven(EE) and with a deep sigh(EF) said to him, “Ephphatha!” (which means “Be opened!”). 35 At this, the man’s ears were opened, his tongue was loosened and he began to speak plainly.(EG)
36 Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone.(EH) But the more he did so, the more they kept talking about it. 37 People were overwhelmed with amazement. “He has done everything well,” they said. “He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”
Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand(EI)(EJ)(EK)
8 During those days another large crowd gathered. Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, 2 “I have compassion for these people;(EL) they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. 3 If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance.”
4 His disciples answered, “But where in this remote place can anyone get enough bread to feed them?”
5 “How many loaves do you have?” Jesus asked.
“Seven,” they replied.
6 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. When he had taken the seven loaves and given thanks, he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute to the people, and they did so. 7 They had a few small fish as well; he gave thanks for them also and told the disciples to distribute them.(EM) 8 The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.(EN) 9 About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, 10 he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha.
11 The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven.(EO) 12 He sighed deeply(EP) and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” 13 Then he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to the other side.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Herod
14 The disciples had forgotten to bring bread, except for one loaf they had with them in the boat. 15 “Be careful,” Jesus warned them. “Watch out for the yeast(EQ) of the Pharisees(ER) and that of Herod.”(ES)
16 They discussed this with one another and said, “It is because we have no bread.”
17 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked them: “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not see or understand? Are your hearts hardened?(ET) 18 Do you have eyes but fail to see, and ears but fail to hear? And don’t you remember? 19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
“Twelve,”(EU) they replied.
20 “And when I broke the seven loaves for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did you pick up?”
They answered, “Seven.”(EV)
21 He said to them, “Do you still not understand?”(EW)
Jesus Heals a Blind Man at Bethsaida
22 They came to Bethsaida,(EX) and some people brought a blind man(EY) and begged Jesus to touch him. 23 He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit(EZ) on the man’s eyes and put his hands on(FA) him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
24 He looked up and said, “I see people; they look like trees walking around.”
25 Once more Jesus put his hands on the man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 Jesus sent him home, saying, “Don’t even go into[r] the village.”
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(FB)
27 Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?”
28 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(FC) others say Elijah;(FD) and still others, one of the prophets.”
29 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.”(FE)
30 Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.(FF)
Jesus Predicts His Death(FG)
31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man(FH) must suffer many things(FI) and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(FJ) and that he must be killed(FK) and after three days(FL) rise again.(FM) 32 He spoke plainly(FN) about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.
33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!”(FO) he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(FP) 35 For whoever wants to save their life[s] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.(FQ) 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man(FR) will be ashamed of them(FS) when he comes(FT) in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
9 And he said to them, “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see that the kingdom of God has come(FU) with power.”(FV)
The Transfiguration(FW)(FX)
2 After six days Jesus took Peter, James and John(FY) with him and led them up a high mountain, where they were all alone. There he was transfigured before them. 3 His clothes became dazzling white,(FZ) whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them. 4 And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses, who were talking with Jesus.
5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi,(GA) it is good for us to be here. Let us put up three shelters—one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 6 (He did not know what to say, they were so frightened.)
7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice came from the cloud:(GB) “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”(GC)
8 Suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone(GD) what they had seen until the Son of Man(GE) had risen from the dead. 10 They kept the matter to themselves, discussing what “rising from the dead” meant.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
12 Jesus replied, “To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man(GF) must suffer much(GG) and be rejected?(GH) 13 But I tell you, Elijah has come,(GI) and they have done to him everything they wished, just as it is written about him.”
Jesus Heals a Boy Possessed by an Impure Spirit(GJ)
14 When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15 As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.
16 “What are you arguing with them about?” he asked.
17 A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18 Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.”
19 “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.”
20 So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth.(GK)
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”(GL)
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene,(GM) he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” 27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 After Jesus had gone indoors, his disciples asked him privately,(GN) “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
29 He replied, “This kind can come out only by prayer.[t]”
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time(GO)
30 They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, 31 because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, “The Son of Man(GP) is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him,(GQ) and after three days(GR) he will rise.”(GS) 32 But they did not understand what he meant(GT) and were afraid to ask him about it.
33 They came to Capernaum.(GU) When he was in the house,(GV) he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.(GW)
35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”(GX)

7 Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.
2 And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
3 For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.
4 And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.
5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
12 And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

22 And he cometh to Bethsaida; and they bring a blind man unto him, and besought him to touch him.
23 And he took the blind man by the hand, and led him out of the town; and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asked him if he saw ought.
24 And he looked up, and said, I see men as trees, walking.
25 After that he put his hands again upon his eyes, and made him look up: and he was restored, and saw every man clearly.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Neither go into the town, nor tell it to any in the town.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Caesarea Philippi: and by the way he asked his disciples, saying unto them, Whom do men say that I am?
28 And they answered, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets.
29 And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.
31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.
33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.
34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
9 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into an high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them.
3 And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them.
4 And there appeared unto them Elias with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus.
5 And Peter answered and said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
6 For he wist not what to say; for they were sore afraid.
7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.
8 And suddenly, when they had looked round about, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with themselves.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.
10 And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.
11 And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?
12 And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
13 But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.
14 And when he came to his disciples, he saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld him, were greatly amazed, and running to him saluted him.
16 And he asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
30 And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that any man should know it.
31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33 And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
34 But they held their peace: for by the way they had disputed among themselves, who should be the greatest.
35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
36 And he took a child, and set him in the midst of them: and when he had taken him in his arms, he said unto them,
37 Whosoever shall receive one of such children in my name, receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
38 And John answered him, saying, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us.
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me.
40 For he that is not against us is on our part.
41 For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.
42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea.
43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:
48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt.
50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
10 And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judaea by the farther side of Jordan: and the people resort unto him again; and, as he was wont, he taught them again.
2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him.
3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you?
4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away.
5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept.
6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.
7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;
8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter.
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.
13 And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.
14 But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
15 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.
16 And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.
17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
32 And they were in the way going up to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before them: and they were amazed; and as they followed, they were afraid. And he took again the twelve, and began to tell them what things should happen unto him,
33 Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
35 And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.
36 And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?
37 They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.
38 But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?
39 And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
40 But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared.
41 And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.
42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
11 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples,
2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him.
3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.
4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him.
5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt?
6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him.
8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way.
9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord:
10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
12 And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
15 And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;
16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves.
18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.
19 And when even was come, he went out of the city.
20 And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders,
28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things?
29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him?
32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
12 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country.
2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard.
3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
4 And again he sent unto them another servant; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled.
5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.
6 Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be ours.'
8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
11 This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.
13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.
16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.
17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.
18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,
19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.
21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.
22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.
23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?
27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?
29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
33 And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David?
36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
37 David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:
40 Which devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.
42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
13 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!
2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
5 And Jesus answering them began to say, Take heed lest any man deceive you:
6 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
7 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet.
8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.
9 But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.
11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
12 Now the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the son; and children shall rise up against their parents, and shall cause them to be put to death.
13 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
14 But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:
15 And let him that is on the housetop not go down into the house, neither enter therein, to take any thing out of his house:
16 And let him that is in the field not turn back again for to take up his garment.
17 But woe to them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!
18 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter.
19 For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be.
20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days.
21 And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not:
22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
23 But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
24 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,
25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken.
26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
28 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near:
29 So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.
30 Verily I say unto you, that this generation shall not pass, till all these things be done.
31 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.
34 For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.
35 Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:
36 Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.
37 And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.
14 After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.
2 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.
3 And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.
4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?
5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.
9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou mayest eat the passover?
13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
18 And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.
22 And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.
23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them: and they all drank of it.
24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.
25 Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.
26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.
28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.
31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.
32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words.
40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy,) neither wist they what to answer him.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.
43 And immediately, while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders.
44 And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.
45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, master; and kissed him.
46 And they laid their hands on him, and took him.
47 And one of them that stood by drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.
48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.
50 And they all forsook him, and fled.
51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him:
52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked.
53 And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.
54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.
56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.
57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.
59 But neither so did their witness agree together.
60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?
62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?
64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.
66 And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:
67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.
69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.
