¹⁷但他們心裡沒有根基，不過是暫時接受，一旦為道遭受患難和迫害，就立刻放棄了。 ¹⁸種子落在荊棘叢中，是指人雖然聽過道， ¹⁹但生活的憂慮、錢財的迷惑和其他慾望把道擠住了，以致不能結出果實。

New International Version

¹⁷But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. ¹⁸Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; ¹⁹but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth^(A) and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

¹⁷And they have no root in themselves, but ^(A)endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately ^(B)they fall away.^[a] ¹⁸And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, ¹⁹but ^(C)the cares of ^(D)the world and ^(E)the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
