葡萄園主的比喻
12 耶穌開始用比喻對他們說：「有一個人栽種了一個葡萄園，四面圍上籬笆，挖了一個榨酒池，蓋了一座守望樓，然後把葡萄園租給一些農夫，就出外旅行。 2 到了收穫的[a]季節，他就派了一個奴僕到那些農夫那裡去，好從他們收取葡萄園的果子。 3 但他們抓住那奴僕，打了他，叫他空手回去。 4 園主又派另一個奴僕到他們那裡去。那些農夫[b]打傷了他的頭，並且侮辱他[c]。 5 園主再派另一個去，他們把他殺了。另派了許多去，有的被打，有的被殺。
6 「那園主還有一位——是他的愛子。最後他差派兒子到他們那裡，說：『他們一定會尊重我的兒子。』
7 「可是那些農夫彼此說：『這是繼承人。來，我們把他殺了，那繼業就歸我們了。』 8 於是他們抓住他，把他殺了，並扔出葡萄園外。
9 「那麼，葡萄園的主人會做什麼呢？他會來除滅那些農夫，把葡萄園交給別人。 10 你們難道也沒有讀過這段經文嗎？
『工匠所棄絕的石頭，
它已經成了房角的頭塊石頭；
11 這是主所成就的，
在我們眼中實在奇妙！』[d]」
12 祭司長們、律法師們和長老們知道這比喻是針對他們而說的，就想拘捕耶穌。可是他們怕民眾，於是離開耶穌走了。
神與凱撒
13 後來，他們派了一些法利賽人和希律黨的人到耶穌那裡，要找話柄來陷害他。 14 那些人來對耶穌說：「老師，我們知道你是真誠的。你不顧忌任何人，因為你不看人的情面，而是按真理教導神的道[e]。請問，向凱撒納稅，可以不可以呢？我們該交還是不該交呢？」
15 耶穌看出他們的假意，就對他們說：「你們為什麼試探我呢？拿一個銀幣[f]來給我看。」 16 他們就拿來了。耶穌問他們：「這是誰的像和名號？」
他們回答說：「是凱撒的。」
17 耶穌對他們說：「凱撒的歸給凱撒；神的歸給神。」這使他們感到驚奇。
撒都該人與復活
18 接著，撒都該人來到耶穌那裡，他們一向說沒有復活的事。他們問耶穌，說： 19 「老師，摩西為我們寫道：如果一個人的兄弟死了，撇下妻子而沒有留下孩子，他就應該娶這婦人，為兄弟留後裔。[g] 20 曾經有兄弟七人，第一個娶了妻子，死去了，沒有留下後裔。 21 第二個娶了這寡婦，也死了，沒有留下後裔。第三個也一樣。 22 結果，兄弟七個都[h]沒有留下後裔。到了最後，這婦人也死了。 23 既然這七個人都娶過她為妻，在復活的時候，當他們復活了[i]，她將是誰的妻子呢？」
24 耶穌說：「你們之所以錯了，不就是因為你們不明白經上的話，也不明白神的大能嗎？ 25 當人從死人中復活以後，他們既不娶也不嫁，而是像諸天之上的天使一樣。 26 關於死人復活的事，你們難道沒有讀過摩西書『荊棘篇』上，神怎樣對摩西說的嗎？神說『我是亞伯拉罕的神、以撒的神、雅各的神。』[j] 27 神不是死人的神，而是活人的神[k]。你們完全錯了！」
最重要的誡命
28 有一個經文士前來，聽見他們辯論，見耶穌回答得好，就問耶穌：「所有的誡命中，哪一條是最重要的呢？」
29 耶穌回答：「[l]最重要的是：
31 「其次就是『要愛鄰如己。』[p]沒有別的誡命比這兩條更大的了。」
32 那經文士就對耶穌說：「不錯，老師，你真的講了：神只有一位，除他以外沒有別的神。 33 以全心、全智、[q]全力來愛神，並且要愛鄰如己，這是比所有的燔祭和各種祭祀都重要的。」
34 耶穌見他回答得有智慧，就對他說：「你離神的國不遠了。」於是，沒有人敢再質問耶穌了。
有關基督的問題
35 耶穌在聖殿裡教導人的時候問：「經文士們怎麼說基督是大衛的後裔呢？ 36 大衛藉著聖靈，自己說過：
37 大衛自己稱基督為『主』，基督又怎麼會是大衛的後裔呢？」那一大群人都樂意聽耶穌講說。
要防備經文士
38 耶穌在他的教導中說：「你們要當心經文士們。他們喜歡穿著長袍走來走去，喜歡街市上的致敬問候， 39 又喜歡會堂裡的首位、宴席中的上座。 40 他們侵吞寡婦的家產，又假意做很長的禱告。這些人將受到更重的懲罰[t]。」
寡婦的奉獻
41 耶穌面對奉獻箱坐著，看眾人怎樣把錢投入奉獻箱裡。許多富有的人投進了很多錢。 42 有一個窮寡婦來，投進兩個小錢[u]，值一個銅幣[v]。 43 耶穌把他的門徒們召來，對他們說：「我確實地告訴你們：這窮寡婦所投入奉獻箱的，比所有的人投的更多。 44 因為大家是從自己的富餘中拿出來投進去；而這寡婦是從自己的缺乏中，把她所擁有的一切，就是她全部的養生費用都投進去了。」

佃户的比喻(A)
12 耶稣又用比喻对他们说：“有一个人栽种了一个葡萄园，四面围上篱笆，挖了一个压酒池，盖了一座瞭望台，然后租给佃户，就远行去了。 2 到了时候，园主派了一个仆人到佃户那里，向佃户收取葡萄园一部分的果子。 3 佃户抓住他，打了他，放他空手回去。 4 园主再派另外一个仆人到他们那里，他们打伤了他的头，并且侮辱他。 5 园主又派另一个去，他们就把他杀了。后来又派去许多仆人，有的给他们打了，有的给他们杀了。 6 还有一个，就是园主的爱子，最后园主派他到那里去，说：‘他们必尊敬我的儿子。’ 7 那些佃户却彼此说：‘这是继承产业的；来，我们杀了他，产业就是我们的了。’ 8 于是抓住他，把他杀了，扔在葡萄园外。 9 这样，葡萄园的主人要怎么办呢？他要来除掉那些佃户，把葡萄园租给别人。 10 你们没有念过这段圣经吗：
‘建筑工人所弃的石头，
成了房角的主要石头；
11 这是主所作的，
在我们眼中看为希奇。’”
12 他们知道他这比喻是针对他们说的，就想要捉拿他，但因为害怕群众，只好离开他走了。
以纳税的事问难耶稣(B)
13 后来，他们派了几个法利赛人和希律党的人到耶稣那里去，要找他的把柄来陷害他。 14 他们来到了，就对他说：“老师，我们知道你为人诚实，不顾忌任何人，因为你不徇情面，只照着真理把 神的道教导人。请问纳税给凯撒可以不可以？我们该纳不该纳呢？” 15 耶稣看出他们的假意，就对他们说：“你们为甚么试探我呢？拿一个银币来给我，让我看看。” 16 他们就拿来了。耶稣问他们：“这是谁的像，谁的名号？”他们回答他：“凯撒的。” 17 耶稣说：“凯撒的应当归给凯撒， 神的应当归给 神。”他们就对他十分惊奇。
人复活后不娶不嫁(C)
18 撒都该人向来认为没有复活的事，他们来到耶稣那里，问他： 19 “老师，摩西曾写给我们说：‘如果一个人死了，留下妻子，没有儿女，他的弟弟就应当娶他的妻子，为哥哥立后。’ 20 从前有兄弟七人，头一个娶了妻子，死了，没有留下孩子； 21 第二个娶了她，也没有留下孩子，就死了；第三个也是这样。 22 那七个人都没有留下孩子，最后那女人也死了。 23 到了复活的时候，他们都要复活，她是哪一个的妻子呢？因为七个人都娶过她。” 24 耶稣对他们说：“你们错了，不正是因为你们不明白圣经，也不晓得 神的能力吗？ 25 因为人从死里复活以后，也不娶，也不嫁，而是像天上的天使一样。 26 关于死人复活的事，摩西的经卷中荆棘篇上， 神怎样对他说：‘我是亚伯拉罕的 神，以撒的 神，雅各的 神’，你们没有念过吗？ 27 他不是死人的 神，而是活人的 神。你们是大错特错了！”
最重要的诫命(D)
28 有一个经学家，听到他们的辩论，觉得耶稣回答得好，就来问他：“诫命中哪一条是第一重要的呢？” 29 耶稣回答：“第一重要的是：‘以色列啊，你要听！主我们的 神是独一的主。 30 你要全心、全性、全意、全力，爱主你的 神。’ 31 其次是：‘要爱人如己。’再没有别的诫命比这两条更重要的了。” 32 那经学家对耶稣说：“老师，是的，你说的很对， 神是独一的，除了他以外再没有别的 神。 33 我们要用全心、全意、全力去爱他，并且要爱人如己，这就比一切燔祭和各样祭物好得多了。” 34 耶稣见他回答得有智慧，就对他说：“你距离 神的国不远了。”从此再也没有人敢问他了。
大卫称基督为主(E)
35 耶稣在殿里教训人，说：“经学家怎么说基督是大卫的子孙呢？ 36 大卫自己被圣灵感动却说：
‘主对我的主说：
你坐在我的右边，
等我把你的仇敌放在你的脚下（有些抄本作“等我使你的仇敌作你的脚凳”）。’
37 大卫自己既然称他为主，他又怎么会是大卫的子孙呢？”群众都喜欢听他。
耶稣叫人提防经学家(F)
38 耶稣教导人的时候，说：“你们要提防经学家，他们喜欢穿长袍走来走去，喜欢人在市中心向他们问安， 39 又喜欢会堂里的高位，筵席上的首座。 40 他们吞没了寡妇的房产，又假装作冗长的祷告。这些人必受更重的刑罚。”
穷寡妇的奉献(G)
41 耶稣面对银库坐着，看着大家怎样把钱投入库中。许多有钱的人投入很多的钱。 42 后来，有一个穷寡妇来投入了两个小钱，就是一个铜钱。 43 耶稣把门徒叫过来，对他们说：“我实在告诉你们，这穷寡妇投入库里的，比众人投的更多。 44 因为他们都是把自己剩余的投入，这寡妇是自己不足，却把她一切所有的，就是全部养生的，都投进去了。”

12 ¶ Y comenzó a hablarles por parábolas: Plantó un hombre una viña, y la cercó con seto, y cavó un lagar, y edificó una torre, y la arrendó a labradores, y se fue lejos.
2 Y envió un esclavo a los labradores, al tiempo, para que tomara de los labradores del fruto de la viña.
3 Mas ellos, tomándole, le hirieron, y le enviaron vacío.
4 Y volvió a enviarles otro esclavo; mas apedreándole, le hirieron en la cabeza, y volvieron a enviarle afrentado.
5 Y volvió a enviar otro, y a aquel mataron; y a otros muchos, hiriendo a unos y matando a otros.
6 Teniendo pues aún un hijo suyo amado, lo envió también a ellos el postrero, diciendo: Tendrán en reverencia a mi hijo.
7 Mas aquellos labradores dijeron entre sí: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle, y la heredad será nuestra.
8 Y prendiéndole, le mataron, y le echaron fuera de la viña.
9 ¿Qué, pues, hará el señor de la viña? Vendrá, y destruirá a estos labradores, y dará su viña a otros.
10 ¿Ni aun esta Escritura habéis leído: La piedra que desecharon los que edificaban, Esta es puesta por cabeza de esquina;

14 Y viniendo ellos, le dicen: Maestro, ya sabemos que eres hombre de verdad, y que no te cuidas de nadie; porque no miras a la apariencia de hombres, antes con verdad enseñas el camino de Dios: ¿Es lícito dar tributo a César, o no? ¿Daremos, o no daremos?
15 Entonces él, como entendía la hipocresía de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis? Traedme la moneda para que la vea.
16 Y ellos se la trajeron y les dice: ¿De quién es esta imagen y esta inscripción? Y ellos le dijeron: De César.
17 Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Pagad lo que es de César a César; y lo que es de Dios, a Dios. Y se maravillaron de ello.
18 ¶ Entonces vinieron a él los saduceos, que dicen que no hay resurrección, y le preguntaron, diciendo:
19 Maestro, Moisés nos escribió, que si el hermano de alguno muriere, y dejara mujer, y no dejara hijos, que su hermano tome su mujer, y levante linaje a su hermano.
20 Fueron pues siete hermanos; y el primero tomó mujer, y muriendo, no dejó simiente;
21 y la tomó el segundo, y murió, y ni aquel tampoco dejó simiente; y el tercero, de la misma manera.
22 Y la tomaron los siete, y tampoco dejaron simiente; a la postre murió también la mujer.
23 En la resurrección, pues, cuando resucitaren, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer? Porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer.
24 Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dice: ¿No erráis por eso, porque no sabéis las Escrituras, ni la potencia de Dios?
25 Porque cuando resucitaran de los muertos, ni se casarán, ni maridos toman mujeres, ni mujeres maridos, mas son como los ángeles que están en los cielos.
26 Y de los muertos que hayan de resucitar, ¿no habéis leído en el libro de Moisés cómo le habló Dios en la zarza, diciendo: Yo Soy el Dios de Abraham, y el Dios de Isaac, y el Dios de Jacob?
27 No es Dios de muertos, mas Dios de vivos; así que vosotros mucho erráis.
28 ¶ Y acercándose uno de los escribas, que los había oído disputar, y sabía que les había respondido bien, le preguntó: ¿Cuál es el principal mandamiento de todos?
29 Y Jesús le respondió: El principal mandamiento de todos es: Oye Israel, el Señor nuestro Dios; el Señor uno es.
30 Amarás pues al Señor tu Dios de todo tu corazón, y de toda tu alma, y de todo tu pensamiento, y de todas tus fuerzas: éste es el principal mandamiento.
31 Y el segundo es semejante a él: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo. No hay otro mandamiento mayor que éstos.
32 Entonces el escriba le dijo: Bien, Maestro, verdad has dicho, que uno es Dios, y no hay otro fuera de él;
33 y que amarle de todo corazón, y de todo entendimiento, y de toda el alma, y de todas las fuerzas; y amar al prójimo como a sí mismo, más es que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios.
34 Jesús entonces, viendo que había respondido sabiamente, le dice: No estás lejos del Reino de Dios. Y ya ninguno osaba preguntarle.
35 ¶ Y respondiendo Jesús decía, enseñando en el Templo: ¿Cómo dicen los escribas que el Cristo es hijo de David?
36 Porque el mismo David dijo por el Espíritu Santo: Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi diestra, hasta que ponga tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.
37 Luego llamándole el mismo David, Señor, ¿de dónde, pues, es su hijo? Y muchas personas le oían de buena gana.
38 Y les decía en su doctrina: Guardaos de los escribas, que quieren andar con ropas largas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas,
39 y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas;
40 que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacen largas oraciones. Estos recibirán mayor juicio.
41 ¶ Y estando sentado Jesús delante del arca de la ofrenda, miraba cómo el pueblo echaba dinero en el arca; y muchos ricos echaban mucho.
42 Y como vino una viuda pobre, echó dos centavos, que es un cuadrante.
43 Entonces llamando a sus discípulos, les dice: De cierto os digo, que esta viuda pobre echó más que todos los que han echado en el arca;
44 porque todos han echado de lo que les sobra; mas ésta, de su pobreza echó todo lo que tenía, todo su alimento.

Los labradores malvados

12 Entonces comenzó Jesús a decirles por parábolas: Un hombre plantó una viña,(A) la cercó de vallado, cavó un lagar, edificó una torre, y la arrendó a unos labradores, y se fue lejos. 2 Y a su tiempo envió un siervo a los labradores, para que recibiese de estos del fruto de la viña. 3 Mas ellos, tomándole, le golpearon, y le enviaron con las manos vacías. 4 Volvió a enviarles otro siervo; pero apedreándole, le hirieron en la cabeza, y también le enviaron afrentado. 5 Volvió a enviar otro, y a este mataron; y a otros muchos, golpeando a unos y matando a otros. 6 Por último, teniendo aún un hijo suyo, amado, lo envió también a ellos, diciendo: Tendrán respeto a mi hijo. 7 Mas aquellos labradores dijeron entre sí: Este es el heredero; venid, matémosle, y la heredad será nuestra. 8 Y tomándole, le mataron, y le echaron fuera de la viña. 9 ¿Qué, pues, hará el señor de la viña? La piedra que desecharon los edificadores
Ha venido a ser cabeza del ángulo;
11 El Señor ha hecho esto,
Y es cosa maravillosa a nuestros ojos(B)?
12 Y procuraban prenderle, porque entendían que decía contra ellos aquella parábola; pero temían a la multitud, y dejándole, se fueron.
La cuestión del tributo

13 Y le enviaron algunos de los fariseos y de los herodianos, para que le sorprendiesen en alguna palabra. 14 Viniendo ellos, le dijeron: Maestro, sabemos que eres hombre veraz, y que no te cuidas de nadie; porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres, sino que con verdad enseñas el camino de Dios. ¿Es lícito dar tributo a César, o no? ¿Daremos, o no daremos? 15 Mas él, percibiendo la hipocresía de ellos, les dijo: ¿Por qué me tentáis? Traedme la moneda para que la vea. 16 Ellos se la trajeron; y les dijo: ¿De quién es esta imagen y la inscripción? Ellos le dijeron: De César. 17 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Dad a César lo que es de César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios. Y se maravillaron de él.
La pregunta sobre la resurrección

18 Entonces vinieron a él los saduceos, que dicen que no hay resurrección,(C) y le preguntaron, diciendo: 19 Maestro, Moisés nos escribió(D) que si el hermano de alguno muriere y dejare esposa, pero no dejare hijos, que su hermano se case con ella, y levante descendencia a su hermano. 20 Hubo siete hermanos; el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin dejar descendencia. 21 Y el segundo se casó con ella, y murió, y tampoco dejó descendencia; y el tercero, de la misma manera. 22 Y así los siete, y no dejaron descendencia; y después de todos murió también la mujer. 23 En la resurrección, pues, cuando resuciten, ¿de cuál de ellos será ella mujer, ya que los siete la tuvieron por mujer?
24 Entonces respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: ¿No erráis por esto, porque ignoráis las Escrituras, y el poder de Dios? 25 Porque cuando resuciten de los muertos, ni se casarán ni se darán en casamiento, sino serán como los ángeles que están en los cielos. 26 Pero respecto a que los muertos resucitan, ¿no habéis leído en el libro de Moisés cómo le habló Dios en la zarza, diciendo: Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob?(E) 27 Dios no es Dios de muertos, sino Dios de vivos; así que vosotros mucho erráis.
El gran mandamiento
(Mt. 22.34-40)
28 Acercándose uno de los escribas, que los había oído disputar, y sabía que les había respondido bien, le preguntó:(F) ¿Cuál es el primer mandamiento de todos? 29 Jesús le respondió: El primer mandamiento de todos es: Oye, Israel; el Señor nuestro Dios, el Señor uno es. 30 Y amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente y con todas tus fuerzas.(G) Este es el principal mandamiento. 31 Y el segundo es semejante: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.(H) No hay otro mandamiento mayor que estos. 32 Entonces el escriba le dijo: Bien, Maestro, verdad has dicho, que uno es Dios, y no hay otro fuera de él;(I) 33 y el amarle con todo el corazón, con todo el entendimiento, con toda el alma, y con todas las fuerzas, y amar al prójimo como a uno mismo, es más que todos los holocaustos y sacrificios.(J) 34 Jesús entonces, viendo que había respondido sabiamente, le dijo: No estás lejos del reino de Dios. ¿De quién es hijo el Cristo?

35 Enseñando Jesús en el templo, decía: ¿Cómo dicen los escribas que el Cristo es hijo de David? 36 Porque el mismo David dijo por el Espíritu Santo:
Dijo el Señor a mi Señor:
Siéntate a mi diestra,
Hasta que ponga tus enemigos por estrado de tus pies.(K)
37 David mismo le llama Señor; ¿cómo, pues, es su hijo? Y gran multitud del pueblo le oía de buena gana.
Jesús acusa a los escribas
(Mt. 23.1-36; Lc. 11.37-54; 20.45-47)
38 Y les decía en su doctrina: Guardaos de los escribas, que gustan de andar con largas ropas, y aman las salutaciones en las plazas, 39 y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas, y los primeros asientos en las cenas; 40 que devoran las casas de las viudas, y por pretexto hacen largas oraciones. Estos recibirán mayor condenación.
La ofrenda de la viuda

41 Estando Jesús sentado delante del arca de la ofrenda, miraba cómo el pueblo echaba dinero en el arca; y muchos ricos echaban mucho. 42 Y vino una viuda pobre, y echó dos blancas, o sea un cuadrante. 43 Entonces llamando a sus discípulos, les dijo: De cierto os digo que esta viuda pobre echó más que todos los que han echado en el arca; 44 porque todos han echado de lo que les sobra; pero esta, de su pobreza echó todo lo que tenía, todo su sustento.

The Parable of the Tenants
12 (A)And he began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted (B)a vineyard (C)and put a fence around it and dug a pit for the wine press and built a tower, and (D)leased it to tenants and (E)went into another country. 2 When the season came, he sent a servant[a] to the tenants to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. 3 (F)And they took him and beat him and sent him away empty-handed. 4 (G)Again (H)he sent to them another servant, and (I)they struck him on the head and (J)treated him shamefully. 5 (K)And he sent another, and him they killed. And so with many others: some they beat, and some they killed. 6 He had still one other, (L)a beloved son. (M)Finally he sent him to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 7 But those tenants said to one another, (N)‘This is the heir. Come, (O)let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’ 8 And they took him and killed him and (P)threw him out of the vineyard. 9 What will the owner of the vineyard do? (Q)He will (R)come and destroy the tenants and (S)give the vineyard to others. 10 (T)Have you not read (U)this Scripture:
(V)“‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;[b]
11 this was the Lord's doing,
and it is marvellous in our eyes’?”
12 And (W)they were seeking to arrest him (X)but feared the people, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them. So they (Y)left him and went away.
Paying Taxes to Caesar
13 (Z)And they sent to him some of (AA)the Pharisees and some of (AB)the Herodians, to (AC)trap him in his talk. 14 And they came and said to him, “Teacher, (AD)we know that you are true and do not care about anyone's opinion. For (AE)you are not swayed by appearances,[c] but truly teach (AF)the way of God. Is it lawful to pay (AG)taxes to (AH)Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” 15 But, knowing (AI)their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why (AJ)put me to the test? Bring me (AK)a denarius[d] and let me look at it.” 16 And they brought one. And he said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar's.” 17 Jesus said to them, (AL)“Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.” And they marvelled at him.
The Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection
18 And (AM)Sadducees came to him, (AN)who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying, 19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that (AO)if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife, but leaves no child, the man[e] must take the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; the first took a wife, and when he died left no offspring. 21 And the second took her, and died, leaving no offspring. And the third likewise. 22 And the seven left no offspring. Last of all the woman also died. 23 In the resurrection, when they rise again, whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.”
24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are wrong, because (AP)you know neither the Scriptures nor (AQ)the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither (AR)marry nor (AS)are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 26 And as for the dead being raised, (AT)have you not read in (AU)the book of Moses, in (AV)the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, (AW)‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong.”
The Great Commandment
28 (AX)And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, (AY)‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, (AZ)the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 (BA)The second is this: (BB)‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no other commandment (BC)greater than these.” 32 And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that (BD)he is one, and (BE)there is no other besides him. 33 And to love him with all the heart and with all (BF)the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbour as oneself, (BG)is much more than all (BH)whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” (BI)And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.
Whose Son Is the Christ?
35 (BJ)And as (BK)Jesus taught in the temple, he said, “How can the scribes say that (BL)the Christ is the son of David? 36 David himself, (BM)in the Holy Spirit, declared,
37 David himself calls him Lord. So (BP)how is he his son?” And the great throng (BQ)heard him gladly.
Beware of the Scribes
38 (BR)And in his teaching he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the market-places 39 and have the best seats in the synagogues and (BS)the places of honour at feasts, 40 (BT)who devour widows' houses and (BU)for a pretence make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.”
The Widow's Offering
41 (BV)And he sat down opposite (BW)the treasury and watched the people (BX)putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two (BY)small copper coins, which make a penny.[f] 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, (BZ)this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her (CA)poverty has put in everything she had, all (CB)she had to live on.”
