10 耶穌離開那裡，來到猶太地區和約旦河河東岸，人群又聚集到祂那裡。耶穌像往常一樣教導他們。 2 一些法利賽人想試探耶穌，就來問祂：「男人可以休妻嗎？」 3 耶穌反問道：「摩西怎麼吩咐你們的？」
4 他們說：「摩西准許人寫休書休妻。」
5 耶穌說：「摩西因為你們心硬，才給你們寫了這條誡命。 6 太初創造時，『上帝造了男人和女人。』 7 『因此，人要離開父母，與妻子結合， 8 二人成為一體。』這樣，夫妻不再是兩個人，而是一體了。 9 因此，上帝配合的，人不可分開。」
10 回到屋裡後，門徒追問耶穌這件事。 11 耶穌說：「任何人休妻另娶，就是對妻子不忠，是犯通姦罪。 12 同樣，妻子若離棄丈夫另嫁，也是犯通姦罪。」
祝福孩童
13 有人帶著小孩子來要讓耶穌摸一摸，門徒卻責備他們。 14 耶穌看見後很生氣，對門徒說：「讓小孩子到我這裡來，不要阻止他們，因為上帝的國屬於這樣的人。 15 我實在告訴你們，人若不像小孩子一樣接受上帝的國，絕不能進去。」 16 於是，耶穌抱起小孩子，把手按在他們身上，為他們祝福。
永生的代價
17 耶穌正要上路，有一個人跑來跪在祂跟前，問祂：「良善的老師，我該做什麼才能承受永生？」
18 耶穌說：「你為什麼稱呼我『良善的老師』呢？只有上帝是良善的。 19 你知道『不可殺人，不可通姦，不可偷盜，不可作偽證，不可欺詐，要孝敬父母』這些誡命。」
20 那人說：「老師，我從小就遵行這些誡命。」
21 耶穌望著他，心中愛他，便說：「你還有一件事沒有做，就是變賣你所有的產業，送給窮人，你必有財寶存在天上，然後你還要來跟從我。」
22 那人聽了，臉色驟變，便沮喪地走了，因為他有許多產業。 23 耶穌看看周圍的人，對門徒說：「有錢人進上帝的國真難啊！」
24 門徒聽了感到驚奇，耶穌便再次對他們說：「孩子們，[a]進上帝的國多麼難啊！ 25 駱駝穿過針眼比有錢人進上帝的國還容易呢！」
26 門徒更加驚奇，便議論說：「這樣，誰能得救呢？」
27 耶穌看著他們說：「對人而言，這不可能，但對上帝而言，凡事都可能。」
28 彼得說：「你看，我們已經撇下一切來跟從你了。」
29 耶穌說：「我實在告訴你們，任何人為了我和福音而撇下房屋、弟兄、姊妹、父母、兒女或田地， 30 今世必在房屋、弟兄、姊妹、父母、兒女或田地方面獲得百倍的回報，來世必得永生。當然他也會受到迫害。 31 然而，許多為首的將要殿後，殿後的將要為首。」
耶穌第三次預言自己的受難
32 在前往耶路撒冷的路上，耶穌走在眾人前面，門徒感到驚奇，其他跟隨的人也很害怕。
耶穌把十二個門徒叫到一旁，再把自己將要遭遇的事告訴他們，說： 33 「聽著，我們現在前往耶路撒冷。人子將被交在祭司長和律法教師的手中，他們要判祂死刑，把祂交給外族人。 34 他們會嘲弄祂，向祂吐唾沫，鞭打祂，殺害祂。但是，三天之後祂必復活！」
雅各與約翰的請求
35 西庇太的兩個兒子雅各和約翰上前對耶穌說：「老師，請你答應我們一個要求。」
36 耶穌問：「什麼要求？」
37 他們說：「在你的榮耀中，求你讓我們一個坐在你右邊，一個坐在你左邊。」
38 耶穌說：「你們不知道自己在求什麼。我要喝的那杯，你們能喝嗎？我要受的洗，你們能受嗎？」
39 他們說：「我們能。」
耶穌說：「我要喝的那杯，你們也要喝；我所受的洗，你們也要受。 40 不過誰坐在我的左右不是我來定，而是為誰預備的，就讓誰坐。」
41 其他十個門徒聽見這事後，很生雅各和約翰的氣。 42 於是，耶穌把他們叫來，對他們說：「你們知道，外族人有君王統治他們，有大臣管理他們， 43 但你們不可這樣。你們中間誰要當首領，誰就要做大家的僕人； 44 誰要居首位，誰就要做大家的奴僕。 45 因為就連人子也不是來受人服侍，而是來服侍人，並且犧牲性命，作許多人的贖價。」
治好瞎子巴底買
46 耶穌和門徒來到耶利哥。當耶穌和門徒及眾人出城的時候，碰到一個瞎眼的乞丐坐在路旁乞討，他的名字叫巴底買，是底買的兒子。 47 巴底買一聽到經過的是拿撒勒人耶穌，就喊道：「大衛的後裔耶穌啊，可憐我吧！」
48 許多人都責備他，叫他不要吵，但他卻更加大聲喊道：「大衛的後裔啊，可憐我吧！」
49 耶穌停下腳步，叫人帶他過來。
他們就對瞎子巴底買說：「好了，起來吧，祂叫你呢。」
50 巴底買丟下外衣，跳了起來，走到耶穌面前。
51 耶穌問他：「你要我為你做什麼？」
瞎子說：「老師，我想能夠看見。」
52 耶穌說：「回去吧！你的信心救[b]了你。」那人立刻得見光明，在路上跟從了耶穌。

10 ¶ Y partiendo de allí, vino a los términos de Judea y tras el Jordán; y volvió la multitud a juntarse a él; y les volvió a enseñar como acostumbraba.
2 Y acercándose los fariseos, le preguntaron, si era lícito al marido repudiar a su mujer, tentándolo.
3 Mas él respondiendo, les dijo: ¿Qué os mandó Moisés?
4 Y ellos dijeron: Moisés permitió escribir carta de divorcio, y repudiar.
5 Y respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Por la dureza de vuestro corazón os escribió este mandamiento;
6 pero al principio de la creación, macho y hembra los hizo Dios.
7 Por esto (dice) dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madre, y se juntará a su mujer.
8 Y los que eran dos, serán hechos una carne; así que no son más dos, sino una carne.
9 Pues lo que Dios juntó, no lo aparte el hombre.
10 Y en casa volvieron los discípulos a preguntarle de lo mismo.
11 Y les dice: Cualquiera que repudiare a su mujer, y se casare con otra, comete adulterio contra ella;
12 y si la mujer repudiare a su marido y se casare con otro, comete adulterio.
13 ¶ Y le presentaban niños para que los tocara; y los discípulos reñían a los que los presentaban.
14 Y viéndolo Jesús, se enojó, y les dijo: Dejad los niños venir, y no se lo estorbéis; porque de los tales es el Reino de Dios.
15 De cierto os digo, que el que no recibiere el Reino de Dios como un niño, no entrará en él.
16 Y tomándolos en los brazos, poniendo las manos sobre ellos, los bendecía.
17 ¶ Y saliendo él para seguir su camino, vino uno corriendo, e hincando la rodilla delante de él, le preguntó: Maestro bueno, ¿qué haré para poseer la vida eterna?
18 Y Jesús le dijo: ¿Por qué me dices bueno? Ninguno hay bueno, sino sólo uno, Dios.
19 Los mandamientos sabes: No adulteres. No cometas homicidio. No hurtes. No digas falso testimonio. No defraudes. Honra a tu padre y a tu madre.
20 El entonces respondiendo, le dijo: Maestro, todo esto he guardado desde mi juventud.
21 Entonces Jesús mirándole, le amó, y le dijo: Una cosa te falta: ve, vende todo lo que tienes, y da a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme, tomando tu madero (si quieres ser perfecto).
22 Mas él, entristecido por esta palabra, se fue triste, porque tenía muchas posesiones.
23 Entonces Jesús, mirando alrededor, dice a sus discípulos: ¡Cuán difícilmente entrarán en el Reino de Dios los que tienen riquezas!
24 Y los discípulos se espantaron de sus palabras; mas Jesús respondiendo, les volvió a decir: ¡Hijos, cuán difícil es entrar en el Reino de Dios, los que confían en las riquezas!
25 Más fácil es pasar un cable por el ojo de una aguja, que el rico entrar en el Reino de Dios.
26 Mas ellos se espantaban más, diciendo dentro de sí: ¿Y quién podrá salvarse?
27 Entonces Jesús mirándolos, dice: Para los hombres es imposible; mas para Dios, no; porque todas las cosas son posibles para Dios.
28 Entonces Pedro comenzó a decirle: He aquí, nosotros hemos dejado todas las cosas, y te hemos seguido.
29 Y respondiendo Jesús, dijo: De cierto os digo, que no hay ninguno que haya dejado casa, o hermanos, o hermanas, o padre, o madre, o mujer, o hijos, o heredades, por causa de mí y del Evangelio,
30 que no reciba cien tantos ahora en este tiempo, casas, y hermanos, y hermanas, y madres, e hijos, y heredades, con persecuciones; y en el siglo venidero la vida eterna.
31 Pero muchos primeros serán postreros, y postreros, primeros.
32 ¶ Y estaban en el camino subiendo a Jerusalén; y Jesús iba delante de ellos, y se espantaban, y le seguían con miedo; entonces volviendo a tomar a los doce aparte, les comenzó a decir las cosas que le habían de acontecer:
33 He aquí subimos a Jerusalén, y el Hijo del hombre será entregado a los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y a los escribas, y le condenarán a muerte, y le entregarán a los gentiles;
34 y le escarnecerán, y le azotarán, y escupirán en él, y le matarán, mas al tercer día resucitará.
35 Entonces Jacobo y Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, se llegaron a él, diciendo: Maestro, querríamos que nos hagas lo que pidiéremos.
36 Y él les dijo: ¿Qué queréis que os haga?
37 Y ellos le dijeron: Danos que en tu gloria nos sentemos el uno a tu diestra, y el otro a tu siniestra.
38 Entonces Jesús les dijo: No sabéis lo que pedís. ¿Podéis beber el vaso que yo bebo, o ser bautizados del bautismo de que yo soy bautizado?
39 Y ellos dijeron: Podemos. Y Jesús les dijo: A la verdad, el vaso que yo bebo, beberéis; y del bautismo de que soy bautizado, seréis bautizados.
40 Mas que os sentéis a mi diestra y a mi siniestra, no es mío darlo, sino a quienes está aparejado.
41 Cuando lo oyeron los diez, comenzaron a enojarse contra Jacobo y Juan.
42 Mas Jesús, llamándolos, les dice: Sabéis que los que se ven ser príncipes entre los gentiles, se enseñorean de ellos, y los que entre ellos son grandes, tienen sobre ellos potestad.
43 Mas no será así entre vosotros: antes cualquiera que quisiere hacerse grande entre vosotros, será vuestro servidor;
44 y cualquiera de vosotros que quisiere hacerse el primero, será esclavo de todos.
45 Porque el Hijo del hombre tampoco vino para ser servido, mas para servir, y dar su vida en rescate por muchos.
46 ¶ Entonces vienen a Jericó; y saliendo él de Jericó y sus discípulos y una gran multitud, Bartimeo el ciego, hijo de Timeo, estaba sentado junto al camino mendigando.
47 Y oyendo que era Jesús el Nazareno, comenzó a dar voces y decir: Jesús, Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.
48 Y muchos le reñían, que callara; mas él daba mayores voces: Hijo de David, ten misericordia de mí.
49 Entonces Jesús parándose, mandó llamarle; y llaman al ciego, diciéndole: Ten confianza; levántate, te llama.
50 El entonces, echando su capa, se levantó, y vino a Jesús.
51 Y respondiendo Jesús, le dice: ¿Qué quieres que te haga? Y el ciego le dice: Maestro, que reciba la vista.
52 Y Jesús le dijo: Ve, tu fe te ha salvado. Y luego recibió la vista, y seguía a Jesús en el camino.

Ang Katuruan ni Jesus tungkol sa Paghihiwalay ng Mag-asawa(A)
10 Pag-alis doon, si Jesus ay nagpunta sa lupain ng Judea at tumawid sa ibayo ng Ilog Jordan. Muling dumagsa ang maraming tao at tulad ng kanyang palaging ginagawa, sila'y kanyang tinuruan.
2 May ilang Pariseong gustong subukin si Jesus; kaya't lumapit sila at nagtanong, “Naaayon po ba sa Kautusan na hiwalayan ng lalaki ang kanyang asawa?”
3 Sumagot siya, “Ano ba ang utos ni Moises sa inyo?”
4 Sumagot(B) naman sila, “Ipinahintulot po ni Moises na ang lalaki ay gumawa ng kasulatan ng paghihiwalay bago niya hiwalayan at palayasin ang kanyang asawa.”
5 Ngunit sinabi ni Jesus, “Ginawa ni Moises ang utos na iyon dahil sa katigasan ng inyong ulo. 6 Subalit(C) simula pa nang likhain ng Diyos ang sanlibutan, nilalang niya ang tao na lalaki at babae. 7 ‘Dahil(D) dito'y iiwan ng lalaki ang kanyang ama at ina, [magsasama sila ng kanyang asawa][a] 8 at ang dalawa'y magiging isa.’ Hindi na sila dalawa kundi isa. 9 Ang pinagsama ng Diyos ay huwag paghiwalayin ng tao.”
10 Pagdating sa bahay, ang mga alagad naman ang nagtanong kay Jesus tungkol sa bagay na ito. 11 Sinabi(E) niya sa kanila, “Kapag hiniwalayan ng isang lalaki ang kanyang asawa at mag-asawa ng iba, siya ay nagkakasala ng pangangalunya sa kanyang asawa. 12 Gayon din naman, ang babaing humiwalay sa kanyang asawa at mag-asawa ng iba ay nagkakasala rin ng pangangalunya.”
Binasbasan ni Jesus ang Maliliit na Bata(F)
13 May mga taong nagdala ng mga bata kay Jesus upang hilinging ipatong niya sa mga ito ang kanyang kamay, ngunit sinaway sila ng mga alagad. 14 Nagalit si Jesus nang makita ito at sinabi sa kanila, “Hayaan ninyong lumapit sa akin ang mga bata, at huwag ninyo silang pagbawalan, sapagkat ang mga katulad nila ang mapapabilang sa kaharian ng Diyos. 15 Tandaan(G) ninyo: ang sinumang hindi tumatanggap sa kaharian ng Diyos, tulad sa pagtanggap ng isang bata, ay hinding-hindi makakapasok sa kaharian ng Diyos.” 16 Kinalong ni Jesus ang mga bata, ipinatong ang kanyang mga kamay sa kanila at binasbasan sila.
Ang Lalaking Mayaman(H)
17 Nang siya'y paalis na, may isang lalaking patakbong lumapit kay Jesus, lumuhod sa harapan niya at nagtanong, “Mabuting Guro, ano po ba ang dapat kong gawin upang makamtan ko ang buhay na walang hanggan?”
18 Sumagot si Jesus, “Bakit mo ako tinatawag na mabuti? Walang mabuti kundi ang Diyos lamang. 19 Alam(I) mo ang mga utos ng Diyos, ‘Huwag kang papatay; huwag kang mangangalunya; huwag kang magnanakaw; huwag kang sasaksi nang walang katotohanan; huwag kang mandaraya; igalang mo ang iyong ama at ina.’”
20 Sumagot ang lalaki, “Guro, mula pa sa aking pagkabata ay tinupad ko na ang lahat ng mga iyan.”
21 Magiliw siyang tiningnan ni Jesus at sinabi, “May isang bagay pa na dapat mong gawin. Ipagbili mo ang iyong mga ari-arian at ipamigay mo sa mahihirap, at magkakaroon ka ng kayamanan sa langit. Pagkatapos, bumalik ka at sumunod ka sa akin.” 22 Nang marinig ito ng lalaki, siya'y nanlumo at malungkot na umalis sapagkat siya'y lubhang napakayaman.
23 Tiningnan ni Jesus ang mga nasa paligid niya at sinabi sa mga alagad, “Tunay ngang napakahirap para sa mayayaman ang makapasok sa kaharian ng Diyos!” 24 Nagtaka ang mga alagad sa sinabi niyang ito. Ngunit muling sinabi ni Jesus, “Mga anak, talagang napakahirap [para sa mga mayayaman na][b] makapasok sa kaharian ng Diyos! 25 Mas madali pang dumaan ang kamelyo sa butas ng karayom kaysa isang mayaman na pumasok sa kaharian ng Diyos.”
26 Lalong nagtaka ang mga alagad, kaya't nagtanong sila, “Kung gayon, sino pa kaya ang maliligtas?”
27 Tiningnan sila ni Jesus at sinabi sa kanila, “Hindi ito kayang gawin ng tao, ngunit hindi ito imposible sa Diyos. Sapagkat ang lahat ng bagay ay kayang gawin ng Diyos.”
28 At nagsalita si Pedro, “Tingnan po ninyo, iniwan na namin ang lahat at kami'y sumunod sa inyo.”
29 Sumagot si Jesus, “Tandaan ninyo: ang sinumang nag-iwan ng kanyang tahanan, o mga kapatid, mga magulang, mga anak, mga lupain, dahil sa akin at sa Magandang Balita, 30 ay tatanggap sa buhay na ito ng isandaang ulit pa ng mga iyon; mga bahay, mga kapatid, mga ina, mga anak, at mga lupain, ngunit may kalakip na pag-uusig. At sa panahong darating, magtatamo siya ng buhay na walang hanggan. 31 Ngunit(J) maraming nauuna na mahuhuli, at maraming nahúhulí ang mauuna.”
Ang Ikatlong Pagbanggit tungkol sa Kamatayan at Muling Pagkabuhay ni Jesus(K)
32 Nasa daan sila papuntang Jerusalem. Nauuna sa kanila si Jesus; nangangamba ang mga alagad at natatakot naman ang ibang mga taong sumusunod sa kanya. Muling ibinukod ni Jesus ang Labindalawa at sinabi sa kanila ang mangyayari sa kanya. 33 Sabi niya, “Papunta tayo ngayon sa Jerusalem kung saan ang Anak ng Tao'y ipagkakanulo sa mga punong pari at sa mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan. Siya'y hahatulan nila ng kamatayan at ibibigay sa mga Hentil. 34 Siya ay kanilang hahamakin, duduraan, hahagupitin, at papatayin. Ngunit pagkaraan ng tatlong araw, siya'y muling mabubuhay.”
Ang Pagiging Dakila(L)
35 Lumapit kay Jesus ang mga anak ni Zebedeo na sina Santiago at Juan. Sinabi nila, “Guro, may hihilingin po sana kami sa inyo.”
36 “Ano ang nais ninyo?” tanong ni Jesus.
37 Sumagot sila, “Sana po ay makasama kami sa inyong karangalan at maupo ang isa sa kanan at isa sa kaliwa.”
38 Ngunit(M) sabi ni Jesus sa kanila, “Hindi ninyo nalalaman ang inyong hinihingi. Makakaya ba ninyong tiisin ang hirap na aking daranasin? Makakaya ba ninyo ang bautismong ibabautismo sa akin?”
39 “Opo,” tugon nila.
Sinabi ni Jesus, “Ang kopang aking iinuman ay iinuman nga ninyo, at babautismuhan nga kayo sa bautismong tatanggapin ko. 40 Ngunit hindi ako ang magpapasya kung sino ang mauupo sa aking kanan at sa aking kaliwa. Ang mga karangalang iyan ay para sa mga pinaglaanan.”
41 Nang malaman ito ng sampung alagad, nagalit sila sa magkapatid. 42 Kaya't(N) pinalapit sila ni Jesus at sinabi, “Alam ninyo na ang mga itinuturing na pinuno ng mga Hentil ay namumuno bilang mga panginoon sa kanila, at ang kagustuhan ng mga nasa kapangyarihan ang siyang nasusunod. 43 Ngunit(O) hindi ganyan ang dapat umiral sa inyo. Sa halip, ang sinuman sa inyo na nais maging dakila ay dapat maging lingkod ninyo, 44 at ang sinumang nais maging pinuno ay dapat maging alipin ng lahat. 45 Sapagkat ang Anak ng Tao ay naparito hindi upang paglingkuran kundi upang maglingkod at upang mag-alay ng kanyang buhay para sa ikatutubos ng marami.”
Pinagaling si Bartimeo(P)
46 Dumating sina Jesus sa Jerico. Nang papaalis na siya kasama ang kanyang mga alagad at marami pang iba, may nadaanan silang isang bulag na nakaupo sa tabi ng daan at namamalimos. Siya'y si Bartimeo na anak ni Timeo. 47 Nang marinig ng bulag na ang nagdaraan ay si Jesus na taga-Nazaret, sumigaw siya nang sumigaw, “Jesus, Anak ni David, mahabag po kayo sa akin!”
48 Pinagsabihan siya ng mga taong naroroon upang tumahimik, ngunit lalo pa siyang nagsisigaw, “Anak ni David, mahabag po kayo sa akin!”
49 Tumigil si Jesus at kanyang sinabi, “Dalhin ninyo siya rito.”
At tinawag nga nila ang bulag. “Lakasan mo ang iyong loob. Tumayo ka. Ipinapatawag ka ni Jesus,” sabi nila.
50 Inihagis niya ang kanyang balabal, paluksong tumayo at lumapit kay Jesus.
51 “Ano ang gusto mong gawin ko para sa iyo?” tanong sa kanya ni Jesus.
Sumagot ang bulag, “Guro, gusto ko pong makakitang muli.”
52 Sinabi ni Jesus, “Makakaalis ka na. Magaling ka na dahil sa iyong pananampalataya.”
Noon di'y nakakita siyang muli, at sumunod kay Jesus.

Divorce(A)
10 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan.(B) Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.(C)
2 Some Pharisees(D) came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
3 “What did Moses command you?” he replied.
4 They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”(E)
5 “It was because your hearts were hard(F) that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied. 6 “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’[a](G) 7 ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8 and the two will become one flesh.’[c](H) So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”
10 When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.(I) 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”(J)
The Little Children and Jesus(K)
13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.(L) 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”(M) 16 And he took the children in his arms,(N) placed his hands on them and blessed them.
The Rich and the Kingdom of God(O)
17 As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees(P) before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”(Q)
18 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, you shall not defraud, honor your father and mother.’[d]”(R)
20 “Teacher,” he declared, “all these I have kept since I was a boy.”
21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor,(S) and you will have treasure in heaven.(T) Then come, follow me.”(U)
22 At this the man’s face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth.
23 Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for the rich(V) to enter the kingdom of God!”
24 The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, “Children, how hard it is[e] to enter the kingdom of God!(W) 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”(X)
26 The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”(Y)
28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!”(Z)
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much(AA) in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come(AB) eternal life.(AC) 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”(AD)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(AE)
32 They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid. Again he took the Twelve(AF) aside and told them what was going to happen to him. 33 “We are going up to Jerusalem,”(AG) he said, “and the Son of Man(AH) will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law.(AI) They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, 34 who will mock him and spit on him, flog him(AJ) and kill him.(AK) Three days later(AL) he will rise.”(AM)
The Request of James and John(AN)
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”
36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”(AO)
38 “You don’t know what you are asking,”(AP) Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup(AQ) I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”(AR)
39 “We can,” they answered.
Jesus said to them, “You will drink the cup I drink and be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with,(AS) 40 but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared.”
41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(AT) 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(AU) and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(AV)
Blind Bartimaeus Receives His Sight(AW)
46 Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth,(AX) he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David,(AY) have mercy on me!”
48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
49 Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.”
So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus.
51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi,(AZ) I want to see.”
52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.”(BA) Immediately he received his sight and followed(BB) Jesus along the road.
