施洗者約翰預備道路
1 有關上帝的兒子耶穌基督的福音是這樣開始的。
2 以賽亞先知書上說：
「看啊，
我要差遣我的使者在你前面為你預備道路。
3 他在曠野大聲呼喊，
『預備主的道，
修直祂的路。』」
4 果然，約翰出現了，他在曠野勸人悔改，接受洗禮，使罪得到赦免。 5 猶太全境和耶路撒冷的居民都到約翰那裡承認他們的罪，在約旦河裡接受他的洗禮。
6 約翰身穿駱駝毛的衣服，腰束皮帶，吃的是蝗蟲和野蜜。 7 他傳道說：「在我之後，有一位能力比我更大的要來，我連彎腰替祂解鞋帶也不配。 8 我是用水給你們施洗，但祂要用聖靈給你們施洗。」
耶穌受洗
9 那時，耶穌從加利利的拿撒勒來約旦河接受約翰的洗禮。 10 耶穌從水中一上來，就看見天開了，聖靈好像鴿子一樣降在祂身上， 11 從天上有聲音說：「你是我的愛子，我甚喜悅你。」
耶穌受試探
12 聖靈隨即催促祂到曠野。 13 祂在曠野受撒旦的試探四十天。祂與野獸在一起，有天使服侍祂。
呼召四漁夫
14 約翰被捕後，耶穌來到加利利宣講上帝的福音，說： 15 「時候到了，上帝的國臨近了，你們要悔改，相信福音。」
16 耶穌沿著加利利湖邊走，看見兩個漁夫——西門和他的弟弟安得烈正在湖上撒網捕魚。 17 耶穌對他們說：「來跟從我！我要使你們成為得人的漁夫。」 18 他們立刻拋下漁網，跟從了耶穌。
19 耶穌往前走了不遠，又看見西庇太的兩個兒子雅各和約翰正在船上補網， 20 便立刻呼召他們。他們就辭別父親和船上的工人，跟從了耶穌。
傳道趕鬼
21 他們到了迦百農，耶穌在安息日去會堂裡講道。 22 那裡的人都很吃驚，因為祂教導他們時像個有權柄的人，不像律法教師。 23 當時會堂裡有一個被污鬼附身的人喊道： 24 「拿撒勒的耶穌啊，我們和你有什麼關係？你是來毀滅我們嗎？我知道你是誰，你是上帝的聖者！」
25 耶穌責備牠說：「住口，從他身上出來！」
26 污鬼使那人抽搐了一陣，大叫一聲，就出來了。 27 在場的人十分驚訝，彼此議論說：「這是怎麼回事？真是充滿權柄的新教導啊！竟然連污鬼都服從祂的命令。」 28 於是，耶穌的名聲立刻傳遍了整個加利利。
醫病趕鬼
29 耶穌同雅各和約翰離開會堂，來到西門和安得烈家。 30 當時西門的岳母正發燒，躺在床上，他們立刻把這事告訴耶穌。 31 耶穌走到她的床邊，拉著她的手扶她起來，她的燒立刻退了，便起來服侍他們。
32 日落之後，有人把病人和被鬼附身的人都帶來見耶穌。 33 全城的人都聚在門前。 34 耶穌醫好了許多患各種疾病的人，又趕出很多鬼。祂不准鬼說話，因為鬼認識祂。
在加利利傳道
35 第二天清早，天還沒亮，耶穌就起來獨自走到曠野去禱告。 36 西門和同伴們四處尋找耶穌， 37 找到了，便對祂說：「大家都在找你呢！」
38 耶穌卻回答說：「我們到附近的鄉鎮去吧，我也好在那裡傳道，因為我就是為這事來的。」
39 於是，耶穌走遍加利利，在各會堂傳道，趕鬼。
治好痲瘋病人
40 有一次，一個患痲瘋病的人來到耶穌面前，跪下央求：「只要你肯，一定能使我潔淨。」
41 耶穌動了慈心，就伸手摸他，說：「我肯，你潔淨了吧！」 42 那人的痲瘋病立即消失了，他就潔淨了。 43 耶穌讓他回去並鄭重地叮囑： 44 「不要把這事告訴別人，要去讓祭司察看你的身體，並照摩西的規定獻祭，向眾人證明你已經潔淨了。」
45 但那人離開之後，卻到處傳揚這件事，以致耶穌無法再公開進城。祂只能待在城外的曠野，可是人們仍從各處來找祂。

1 The beginning [of the facts] of the good news (the Gospel) of Jesus Christ, [a]the Son of God.
2 [b]Just as it is written in the prophet Isaiah: Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will make ready Your way—(A)
3 A voice of one crying in the wilderness [shouting in the desert], Prepare the way of the Lord, make His [c]beaten tracks straight (level and passable)!(B)
4 John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness (desert), preaching a baptism [[d]obligating] repentance ([e]a change of one’s mind for the better, heartily amending one’s ways, with abhorrence of his past sins) in order [f]to obtain forgiveness of and release from sins.
5 And there kept going out to him [continuously] all the country of Judea and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, [g]as they were confessing their sins.
6 And John wore clothing woven of camel’s hair and had a leather girdle around his loins and ate locusts and wild honey.
7 And he preached, saying, After me comes He Who is stronger (more powerful and more valiant) than I, the strap of Whose sandals I am not worthy or fit to stoop down and unloose.
8 I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
10 And when He came up out of the water, at once he [John] saw the heavens torn open and the [Holy] Spirit like a dove coming down [[h]to enter] [i]into Him.(C)
11 And there came a voice [j]out from within heaven, You are My Beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.(D)
12 Immediately the [Holy] Spirit [from within] drove Him out into the wilderness (desert),
13 And He stayed in the wilderness (desert) forty days, being tempted [all the while] by Satan; and He was with the wild beasts, and the angels ministered to Him [continually].
14 Now after John was arrested and put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom of God,
15 And saying, The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled (completed), and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ([k]have a change of mind which issues in regret for past sins and in change of conduct for the better) and believe (trust in, rely on, and adhere to) the good news (the Gospel).
16 And passing along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon [Peter] and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net [to and fro] in the sea, for they were fishermen.
17 And Jesus said to them, Come after Me and [l]be My disciples, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
18 And at once they left their nets and [[m]yielding up all claim to them] followed [with] Him [[n]joining Him as disciples and siding with His party].
19 He went on a little farther and saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in [their] boat putting their nets in order.
20 And immediately He called out to them, and [[o]abandoning all mutual claims] they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and went off after Him [[p]to be His disciples, side with His party, and follow Him].
21 And they entered into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He went into the synagogue and began to teach.
22 And they were completely astonished at His teaching, for He was teaching as One Who possessed authority, and not as the scribes.
23 Just at that time there was in their synagogue a man [who was in the power] of an unclean spirit; and now [immediately] he raised a deep and terrible cry from the depths of his throat, saying,
24 What have You to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hush up (be muzzled, gagged), and come out of him!
26 And the unclean spirit, throwing the man into convulsions and [q]screeching with a loud voice, came out of him.
27 And they were all so amazed and [r]almost terrified that they kept questioning and demanding one of another, saying, What is this? What new (fresh) teaching! With authority He gives orders even to the unclean spirits and they obey Him!
28 And immediately rumors concerning Him spread [everywhere] throughout all the region surrounding Galilee.
29 And at once He left the synagogue and went into the house of Simon [Peter] and Andrew, accompanied by James and John.
30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law [s]had for some time been lying sick with a fever, and at once they told Him about her.
31 And He went up to her and took her by the hand and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she began to wait on them.
32 Now when it was evening, after the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those under the power of demons,
33 Until the whole town was gathered together about the door.
34 And He cured many who were afflicted with various diseases; and He drove out many demons, but would not allow the demons to talk because they knew Him [[t]intuitively].
35 And in the morning, long before daylight, He got up and went out to a [u]deserted place, and there He prayed.
36 And Simon [Peter] and those who were with him followed Him [[v]pursuing Him eagerly and hunting Him out],
37 And they found Him and said to Him, Everybody is looking for You.
38 And He said to them, Let us be going on into the neighboring country towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out.
39 [So] He went throughout the whole of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
40 And a leper came to Him, begging Him on his knees and saying to Him, If You are willing, You are able to make me clean.
41 And being moved with pity and sympathy, Jesus reached out His hand and touched him, and said to him, I am willing; be made clean!
42 And at once the leprosy [completely] left him and he was made clean [by being healed].
43 And Jesus charged him sternly (sharply and threateningly, and with earnest admonition) and [acting with deep feeling thrust him forth and] sent him away at once,
44 And said to him, See that you tell nothing [of this] to anyone; but begone, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your purification what Moses commanded, as a proof (an evidence and witness) to the people [that you are really healed].(E)
45 But he went out and began to talk so freely about it and blaze abroad the news [spreading it everywhere] that [Jesus] could no longer openly go into a town but was outside in [lonely] desert places. But the people kept on coming to Him from [w]all sides and every quarter.

De boodschap van Johannes de Doper
1 In dit boek wordt het goede nieuws van Jezus Christus verteld. 2 Het is precies zoals geschreven staat in het boek van de profeet Jesaja: ‘Luister, Ik stuur mijn boodschapper voor u uit om voor u een weg te banen.’ 3 En: ‘Ik hoor de stem van iemand die roept in de woestijn: “Baan een weg voor de Here, maak zijn wegen recht.” ’ 4 Deze boodschapper was Johannes de Doper. Hij leefde in de woestijn en vertelde de mensen dat zij zich moesten laten dopen als een openbaar getuigenis van hun besluit om de zonde de rug toe te keren, zodat God hen kon vergeven. 5 Uit Jeruzalem en de provincie Judea kwamen vele mensen naar Johannes toe. Zij beleden hun zonden en lieten zich door hem dopen in de rivier de Jordaan. 6 Johannes droeg kleren van kameelhaar en had een leren riem om. Hij at sprinkhanen en honing van wilde bijen. 7 ‘Na mij,’ riep hij, ‘komt er Iemand die belangrijker is dan ik. Ik ben het niet eens waard de riem van zijn sandalen los te maken. 8 Ik heb u gedoopt met water, maar Hij zal u dopen met de Heilige Geest.’
Het eerste optreden van Jezus
9 Op een dag kwam Jezus daar ook. Hij was uit Nazareth gekomen om Zich door Johannes in de Jordaan te laten dopen. 10 Direct toen Hij uit het water kwam, zag Jezus dat de hemel openscheurde en de Heilige Geest als een duif op Hem neerdaalde. 11 Een stem uit de hemel zei: ‘U bent mijn geliefde Zoon. U verheugt mijn hart.’ 12 Onmiddellijk daarna werd Jezus door de Heilige Geest naar de woestijn gestuurd. 13 Daar werd Hij veertig dagen lang door Satan op de proef gesteld. Hij was er alleen met de wilde dieren en de engelen zorgden voor Hem.
14 Later, toen Johannes de Doper door koning Herodes gevangen was genomen, ging Jezus terug naar Galilea om de mensen het goede nieuws van God te vertellen. 15 ‘Eindelijk is het zover!’ riep Hij. ‘Het Koninkrijk van God is vlakbij. Keer u af van de zonde en geloof het goede nieuws.’ 16 Toen Jezus op een dag langs het meer van Galilea liep, zag Hij twee vissers, Simon en zijn broer Andreas. Zij waren bezig hun netten uit te werpen in het meer. 17 Hij zei tegen hen: ‘Ga met Mij mee! Dan zal Ik van jullie vissers maken die mensen bij Mij brengen.’ 18 Zij lieten hun netten liggen en gingen onmiddellijk met Hem mee. 19 Iets verderop zag Hij nog twee vissers, Jakobus en Johannes, de zonen van Zebedeüs. Zij zaten in hun boot de netten te repareren. 20 Hij riep hen ook en zij lieten hun vader met de knechten in de boot achter en gingen met Jezus mee.
21 Jezus en zijn metgezellen kwamen in Kafarnaüm aan. Op de sabbat (zaterdag, de Joodse rustdag) ging Hij naar de synagoge en sprak de mensen toe. 22 Zij waren verbaasd over wat Hij hun leerde, want Hij sprak als iemand met gezag, die wist waarover Hij het had. Dit was iets heel anders dan zij gewend waren van hun bijbelgeleerden. 23 In die synagoge was een man met een boze geest. Hij begon te schreeuwen: 24 ‘Ik wil niets met U te maken hebben, Jezus van Nazareth. U bent gekomen om ons te vernietigen! Ik weet wel wie U bent: de heilige Zoon van God!’ 25 ‘Zwijg,’ zei Jezus tegen de boze geest. ‘Ga onmiddellijk uit die man weg!’
26 De boze geest rukte en trok aan de man, gilde vreselijk en verliet hem. 27 De mensen keken hun ogen uit en vroegen elkaar: ‘Wat is dit toch? Iemand die iets nieuws leert en die gezag heeft! Hij zegt zelfs tegen de boze geesten dat zij moeten gaan en ze gaan nog ook!’ 28 Dit nieuws ging als een lopend vuurtje door heel Galilea.
29 Uit de synagoge ging Jezus met Simon en Andreas mee naar huis. Jakobus en Johannes waren er ook bij. 30 Simons schoonmoeder was ziek en lag met koorts op bed. De mannen vertelden het aan Jezus. 31 Toen Hij binnenkwam, ging Hij naar haar toe, pakte haar bij de hand en hielp haar overeind. De koorts verdween meteen. Zij stond op en maakte eten voor hen klaar. 32 Die avond na zonsondergang bracht men alle zieken en bezetenen bij Hem. 33 Veel nieuwsgierigen waren te hoop gelopen en voor het huis was het een drukte van belang. 34 Jezus genas heel veel mensen, wat voor ziekte ze ook hadden. Uit vele anderen verjoeg Hij de boze geesten. Hij liet niet toe dat die boze geesten iets zeiden, want zij wisten wie Hij was.
35 Op een morgen stond Jezus voor dag en dauw op en ging alleen naar een stil plekje om te bidden. 36 Later gingen Simon en de anderen Hem achterna. 37 Toen zij Hem gevonden hadden, zeiden zij: ‘Iedereen is op zoek naar U.’ 38 Maar Hij antwoordde: ‘Kom, wij gaan naar andere dorpen en steden hier in de buurt. Dan kan Ik de mensen daar ook over het goede nieuws van God vertellen. Daarvoor ben Ik immers gekomen.’
39 Zo reisde Hij heel Galilea door en sprak overal in de synagogen. Uit vele mensen verjoeg Hij boze geesten.
40 Op een dag kwam er een melaatse man naar Hem toe. Hij viel voor Jezus op zijn knieën en smeekte: ‘Als U wilt, kunt U mij genezen.’ 41 Toen Jezus zag hoe erg die man eraan toe was, kreeg Hij medelijden met hem. 42 Hij raakte hem aan en zei: ‘Dat wil Ik, word gezond!’ De melaatsheid verdween onmiddellijk en de man was helemaal genezen! 43 Jezus vond het niet goed dat de man bij Hem bleef. 44 ‘Ga direct naar de priester,’ zei Hij streng, ‘en laat u onderzoeken. Pas op dat u niemand iets vertelt! Neem het offer mee dat volgens de wet van Mozes gebracht moet worden, als iemand van melaatsheid genezen is. Dan zal het voor iedereen duidelijk zijn dat u genezen bent.’ 45 Maar de man kon het toch niet voor zich houden. Overal vertelde hij dat Jezus hem had genezen. Jezus kwam zo in de belangstelling te staan dat Hij niet meer onopgemerkt een stad kon binnengaan. Daarom bleef Hij maar buiten op het platteland. Maar ook daar wisten de mensen Hem te vinden.
