警告不義的有錢人

你們富有的人哪,應當為那將要臨到你們的災禍哭泣哀號。 你們的財物朽壞了,你們的衣服給蛀了, 你們的金銀生鏽,這鏽要成為控告你們的鐵證,又要像火一樣吞吃你們的肉。你們竟然在這末後的日子積聚財寶。 看哪,工人為你們收割莊稼,你們竟然剋扣他們的工資;那工資必為他們呼冤;收割者的呼聲,已經達到萬軍之主的耳中了。 你們在世上窮奢極侈,養肥了自己,竟不知屠宰的日子到了。 你們把義人定罪殺害,但他並沒有反抗。

忍耐的人有福了

所以,弟兄們,你們應當忍耐,直到主來。看哪,農夫等待著地裡寶貴的出產,為它忍耐,直到獲得秋霖春雨。 你們也應當忍耐,堅定自己的心;因為主再來的日子近了。 弟兄們,不要彼此抱怨,免得你們受審判。看哪,審判的主已經站在門前了。 10 弟兄們,你們應當效法奉主的名說話的先知,以他們為受苦忍耐的榜樣。 11 看哪,那些忍耐的人,我們稱他們是有福的;你們聽過約伯的忍耐,也看見了主賜給他的結局,知道主是滿有憐憫和仁慈的。

12 我的弟兄們,最要緊的是不可起誓:不可指著天起誓,也不可指著地起誓,任何的誓都當禁絕。你們的話,是就說是,不是就說不是;免得你們落在審判之下。

義人的祈禱大有功效

13 你們中間有人受苦嗎?他就應該禱告。有人心情愉快嗎?他就應該歌頌。 14 你們中間有人患病嗎?他就應該請教會的長老來,讓他們奉主的名為他抹油祈禱。 15 出於信心的祈禱,可以使病人康復,主必叫他起來;他若犯了罪,也必蒙赦免。 16 所以你們應當彼此認罪,互相代求,這樣你們就可以痊愈。義人祈禱所發出的力量,是大有功效的。 17 以利亞是與我們性情相同的人;他懇切祈求不要下雨,地上就三年零六個月沒有雨; 18 他又祈禱,天就下雨,地就生出土產來。

19 我的弟兄們,你們中間若有人被騙離開了真道,如果有人使他回頭, 20 你們應該知道,那使罪人從歧途上轉回的,就會拯救他的靈魂脫離死亡,也會遮蓋許多罪惡。

Warning to the Rich

Come now, you rich! Weep and cry aloud[a] over the miseries that are coming on you. Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted and their rust will be a witness against you. It will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have hoarded treasure![b] Look, the pay you have held back from the workers who mowed your fields cries out against you, and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.[c] You have lived indulgently and luxuriously on the earth. You have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.[d] You have condemned and murdered the righteous person, although he does not resist you.[e]

Patience in Suffering

So be patient, brothers and sisters,[f] until the Lord’s return.[g] Think of how the farmer waits[h] for the precious fruit of the ground and is patient[i] for it until it receives the early and late rains. You also be patient and strengthen your hearts, for the Lord’s return is near. Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters,[j] so that you may not be judged. See, the judge stands before the gates![k] 10 As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters,[l] take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name. 11 Think of how we regard[m] as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and you have seen the Lord’s purpose, that the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.[n] 12 And above all, my brothers and sisters,[o] do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath. But let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no, so that you may not fall into judgment.

Prayer for the Sick

13 Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone in good spirits? He should sing praises. 14 Is anyone among you ill? He should summon the elders of the church, and they should pray for him and anoint[p] him with olive oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick and the Lord will raise him up—and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.[q] 16 So confess your sins to one another and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great effectiveness.[r] 17 Elijah was a human being[s] like us, and he prayed earnestly[t] that it would not rain and there was no rain on the land for three years and six months! 18 Then[u] he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land sprouted with a harvest.

19 My brothers and sisters,[v] if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone turns him back, 20 he should know that the one who turns a sinner back from his wandering path[w] will save that person’s[x] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Patience in Suffering

Be patient, therefore, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious crop from the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains.(D) You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.[b](E) Brothers and sisters, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors!(F) 10 As an example of suffering and patience, brothers and sisters, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 Indeed, we call blessed those who showed endurance. You have heard of the endurance of Job, and you have seen the outcome that the Lord brought about, for the Lord is compassionate and merciful.(G)

12 Above all, brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.[c]

The Prayer of Faith

13 Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise.(H) 14 Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.(I) 15 The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up, and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.(J) 17 Elijah was a human like us, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.(K) 18 Then he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth yielded its harvest.(L)

19 My brothers and sisters, if anyone among you wanders from the truth[d] and is brought back by another, 20 you should know that whoever brings back a sinner from wandering will save the sinner’s[e] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.(M)
