门徒当以试炼为喜乐
1 做神和主耶稣基督仆人的雅各，请散住十二个支派之人的安！
2 我的弟兄们，你们落在百般试炼中，都要以为大喜乐， 3 因为知道，你们的信心经过试验就生忍耐。 4 但忍耐也当成功，使你们成全、完备，毫无缺欠。
要凭着信心求
5 你们中间若有缺少智慧的，应当求那厚赐于众人也不斥责人的神，主就必赐给他。 6 只要凭着信心求，一点不疑惑；因为那疑惑的人就像海中的波浪，被风吹动翻腾。 7 这样的人不要想从主那里得什么， 8 心怀二意的人在他一切所行的路上都没有定见。
9 卑微的弟兄升高，就该喜乐； 10 富足的降卑也该如此，因为他必要过去，如同草上的花一样。 11 太阳出来，热风刮起，草就枯干，花也凋谢，美容就消没了；那富足的人在他所行的事上，也要这样衰残。
忍受试探的人是有福的
12 忍受试探的人是有福的！因为他经过试验以后，必得生命的冠冕，这是主应许给那些爱他之人的。 13 人被试探，不可说“我是被神试探”，因为神不能被恶试探，他也不试探人。 14 但各人被试探，乃是被自己的私欲牵引、诱惑的。 15 私欲既怀了胎，就生出罪来；罪既长成，就生出死来。 16 我亲爱的弟兄们，不要看错了。 17 各样美善的恩赐和各样全备的赏赐都是从上头来的，从众光之父那里降下来的，在他并没有改变，也没有转动的影儿。 18 他按自己的旨意，用真道生了我们，叫我们在他所造的万物中好像初熟的果子。
要行道不要单听道
19 我亲爱的弟兄们，这是你们所知道的，但你们各人要快快地听，慢慢地说，慢慢地动怒， 20 因为人的怒气并不成就神的义。 21 所以，你们要脱去一切的污秽和盈余的邪恶，存温柔的心领受那所栽种的道，就是能救你们灵魂的道。 22 只是你们要行道，不要单单听道，自己欺哄自己。 23 因为听道而不行道的，就像人对着镜子看自己本来的面目， 24 看见，走后，随即忘了他的相貌如何。 25 唯有详细察看那全备、使人自由之律法的，并且时常如此，这人既不是听了就忘，乃是实在行出来，就在他所行的事上必然得福。
何为真实的虔诚
26 若有人自以为虔诚，却不勒住他的舌头，反欺哄自己的心，这人的虔诚是虚的。 27 在神我们的父面前，那清洁没有玷污的虔诚就是看顾在患难中的孤儿寡妇，并且保守自己不沾染世俗。

1 我是作上帝和主耶穌基督奴僕的雅各，問候散居各地的十二支派的人。
信心和忍耐
2 我的弟兄姊妹，當你們遭遇各種磨煉的時候，都要認為是喜樂的事。 3 要知道你們的信心經過考驗會產生堅忍。 4 你們要堅忍到底，使你們纯全、完備、毫無缺欠。
5 如果你們誰缺少智慧，就當求慷慨施恩、不責備人的上帝，上帝必賜給他智慧。 6-8 但他要憑信心毫不疑惑地祈求，因為疑惑的人三心二意，行事為人沒有定見，就像海上隨風翻騰的波濤，這種人從主那裡什麼也得不到。
9 卑微的弟兄高升，應當快樂。 10 富有的弟兄降卑，也要快樂，因為他會像花草一樣衰殘。 11 驕陽升起，草就乾枯，花也凋謝，美麗就消失了。富有的人在忙忙碌碌中也會如此衰殘。
12 在試煉中能夠忍耐到底的人有福了，因為他若經得起考驗，就會得到主應許賜給愛祂之人的生命冠冕。 13 當人受到誘惑時，不可說：「是上帝在誘惑我。」因為上帝不受邪惡的誘惑，也不誘惑人。 14 其實每個受到誘惑的人都是受自己的私慾慫恿和誘惑。 15 私慾懷了胎，便生出罪，罪一旦長成，便帶來死亡。
16 我親愛的弟兄姊妹，不要上當受騙。 17 一切良善的施予和完美的恩賜都是從天上，從眾光之父那裡來的。祂不像轉動的影子變幻無常。 18 祂按照自己的旨意，藉著真道重生了我們，使我們在祂所造的萬物之中好像初熟的果實。
聽道與行道
19 我親愛的弟兄姊妹，請記住：每個人都要快快地聽，慢慢地說，慢慢地動怒。 20 因為人的憤怒不能成就上帝的公義。 21 所以你們要除去所有的污穢和一切的惡習，謙卑地領受那已經栽種在你們心裡、能救你們靈魂的真道。
22 你們要行道，不要只是聽道，自己欺騙自己。 23 因為人聽道而不行道，就像照鏡子一樣， 24 看過後就走了，隨即忘記了自己的容貌。 25 但詳細查考那使人得自由的全備律法並且持之以恆的人，不是聽了就忘，而是身體力行，這樣的人必在他所行的事上蒙福。
26 如果有人自以為虔誠，卻不勒住自己的舌頭，就等於是自己欺騙自己，他的所謂虔誠也毫無價值。 27 在父上帝看來，純潔無暇的虔誠是指照顧患難中的孤兒寡婦，並且不讓自己被世俗玷污。

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
