各种灾祸的异象
7 以下是主耶和华让我看见的异象：看啊，祂造了一大群蝗虫。那时，王室的作物已经收割，第二季作物刚开始发苗。 2 蝗虫吃尽地上的青苗时，我说：“主耶和华啊，求你赦免！雅各那么弱小，他怎么受得了呢？” 3 于是，耶和华心生怜悯，说：“我不降这灾了。”
4 以下是主耶和华让我看见的异象：看啊，主耶和华降下审判的大火。大火烧干了深海，正在吞噬土地。 5 那时，我说：“主耶和华啊，求你停止吧！雅各那么弱小，他怎么受得了呢？” 6 于是，耶和华心生怜悯，说：“我也不降这灾了。”
7 以下是祂让我看见的异象：看啊，主站在一道按照准绳建造的墙边，手里拿着准绳。 8 耶和华对我说：“阿摩司，你看见什么？”我答道：“一条准绳。”主说：“我要在我的以色列子民中吊起准绳，量度他们，我不会再饶恕他们。 9 以撒子孙的丘坛必遭毁坏，以色列的庙宇必成废墟，我要用刀攻击耶罗波安王朝。”

10 伯特利的祭司亚玛谢派人告诉以色列王耶罗波安：“阿摩司在以色列家图谋背叛你，我们国家无法容忍他的言论。 11 因为阿摩司这样说，‘耶罗波安将丧身刀下，以色列人必被掳去，远离家乡。’”
12 亚玛谢对我说：“先见啊，走吧！逃回犹大去吧！你要在那里挣吃的，在那里说预言。 13 不可再在伯特利说预言，这里是王的圣所，是国庙。”
14 我答道：“我本不是先知，也不是先知的门徒。我只是一个牧人，也替人看护桑树。 15 但耶和华不再让我看守羊群，祂对我说，‘去！向我的以色列子民说预言。’ 16 亚玛谢啊，你说，‘不要说攻击以色列的预言，不要传讲攻击以撒子孙的信息。’现在你要听耶和华对你说的话。 17 耶和华说，‘你的妻子必在这城里沦为妓女，你的儿女必丧身刀下，你的田地必被人丈量、瓜分，你自己必死在异乡[a]。以色列人必被掳去，远离家乡。’”

7 이것은 주 여호와께서 나에게 환상으로 보여 주신 것이다: [a]왕에게 돌아갈 몫의 풀을 베고 난 후 다시 움이 돋기 시작할 무렵 주께서 메뚜기떼를 일으키시자
2 그 메뚜기떼가 그 땅의 푸른 것을 모조리 먹어 버렸다. 그래서 내가 “주 여호와여, 주의 백성을 용서하소서. 그들이 어떻게 살아 남을 수 있겠습니까? 그들은 아주 미약합니다” 하고 부르짖었다.
3 그러자 여호와께서는 마음을 돌리시고 “이런 일이 일어나지 않을 것이다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
4 주 여호와께서 나에게 또 다른 환상을 보여 주셨는데 그가 불의 심판을 명령하시자 그 불이 큰 바다를 태워 말리고 육지까지 삼키기 시작하였다.
5 그때 내가 “주 여호와여, 그치소서! [b]주의 백성이 어떻게 살아 남을 수 있겠습니까? 그들은 아주 미약합니다” 하고 부르짖자
6 여호와께서 마음을 돌이키시고 “이것도 일어나지 않을 것이다” 하고 말씀하셨다.
7 여호와께서 다시 나에게 이런 환상을 보여 주셨다: 추를 이용하여 쌓은 담 곁에 여호와께서 손에 다림줄을 잡고 서서
8 “아모스야, 네가 무엇을 보느냐?” 하고 물으셨다. 그래서 내가 “다림줄입니다” 하고 대답하자 주께서 이렇게 대답하셨다. “내가 다림줄로 내 백성을 시험하고 다시는 그들을 용서하지 않겠다.
9 이삭의 산당들이 황폐할 것이며 이스라엘의 성소들이 폐허가 될 것이다. 내가 일어나 칼로 여로보암의 집을 치겠다.”

10 그때 벧엘의 제사장 아마샤가 이스라엘의 여로보암왕에게 이런 전갈을 보냈다. “이스라엘 백성 가운데 아모스가 왕을 해칠 음모를 꾸미고 있습니다. [c]그의 선동으로 이 땅에 감당할 수 없는 반란이 일어날지도 모릅니다.
11 아모스는 왕이 칼날에 죽을 것이며 이스라엘 백성은 포로가 되어 이 땅을 떠날 것이라고 말하고 있습니다.”
12 그런 다음 아마샤는 아모스에게 이렇게 말하였다. “예언자야, 너는 이 곳에서 떠나라. 너는 유다 땅으로 도망가서 거기서 예언하여 밥벌이를 하고
13 다시는 벧엘에서 예언하지 말아라. 이 곳은 왕의 성소이며 왕의 궁전이다.”
14 그때 아모스가 아마샤에게 대답하였다. “나는 예언자도 아니고 예언자의 아들도 아니며 다만 목자요 뽕나무를 재배하는 사람에 불과하다.
15 그러나 여호와께서 양떼를 치는 나를 불러 ‘너는 가서 내 백성 이스라엘에게 예언하라’ 하고 말씀하셨다.
16 그러므로 이제 너는 여호와의 말씀을 들어라. 너는 나에게 예언하지 말고 이스라엘 백성에게 외치지 말라고 하였다.
17 그러므로 여호와께서 너에게 이렇게 말씀하신다. ‘네 아내는 성에서 창녀가 될 것이며 네 자녀들은 칼날에 쓰러지고 네 땅은 측량되어 나누일 것이며 너는 [d]이방 나라에서 죽을 것이다. 그리고 이스라엘은 포로가 되어 본토에서 떠날 것이다.’ ”

Locusts, Fire and a Plumb Line
7 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me:(A) He was preparing swarms of locusts(B) after the king’s share had been harvested and just as the late crops were coming up. 2 When they had stripped the land clean,(C) I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, forgive! How can Jacob survive?(D) He is so small!(E)”
3 So the Lord relented.(F)
“This will not happen,” the Lord said.(G)
4 This is what the Sovereign Lord showed me: The Sovereign Lord was calling for judgment by fire;(H) it dried up the great deep and devoured(I) the land. 5 Then I cried out, “Sovereign Lord, I beg you, stop! How can Jacob survive? He is so small!(J)”
6 So the Lord relented.(K)
“This will not happen either,” the Sovereign Lord said.(L)
7 This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb,[a] with a plumb line[b] in his hand. 8 And the Lord asked me, “What do you see,(M) Amos?(N)”
“A plumb line,(O)” I replied.
Then the Lord said, “Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.(P)
9 “The high places(Q) of Isaac will be destroyed
and the sanctuaries(R) of Israel will be ruined;
with my sword I will rise against the house of Jeroboam.(S)”
Amos and Amaziah
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel(T) sent a message to Jeroboam(U) king of Israel: “Amos is raising a conspiracy(V) against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.(W) 11 For this is what Amos is saying:
“‘Jeroboam will die by the sword,
and Israel will surely go into exile,(X)
away from their native land.’”(Y)
12 Then Amaziah said to Amos, “Get out, you seer!(Z) Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.(AA) 13 Don’t prophesy anymore at Bethel,(AB) because this is the king’s sanctuary and the temple(AC) of the kingdom.(AD)”
14 Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet(AE) nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees.(AF) 15 But the Lord took me from tending the flock(AG) and said to me, ‘Go,(AH) prophesy(AI) to my people Israel.’(AJ) 16 Now then, hear(AK) the word of the Lord. You say,
“‘Do not prophesy against(AL) Israel,
and stop preaching against the descendants of Isaac.’
17 “Therefore this is what the Lord says:

7 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.
2 And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
3 The Lord repented for this: It shall not be, saith the Lord.
4 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
5 Then said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
6 The Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord God.
7 Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
8 And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
9 And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
10 Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
11 For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
12 Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
13 But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king's chapel, and it is the king's court.
14 Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
15 And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
16 Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
17 Therefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
