路得遇見波阿斯
2 拿俄米的丈夫以利米勒有個親戚，名叫波阿斯，是個有名望的財主。 2 摩押女子路得對拿俄米說：「讓我到田裡去，跟在那些願意恩待我的人後面，撿些麥穗回來。」拿俄米說：「去吧，我的女兒！」 3 於是，路得便去了。她恰巧來到以利米勒的親戚波阿斯的田裡，跟在收割的人後面撿麥穗。 4 當時，波阿斯剛好從伯利恆來到田間，向那些收割的工人問安說：「願耶和華與你們同在。」他們回答說：「願耶和華賜福與你。」 5 波阿斯問負責收割的工頭說：「那是誰家的女子？」 6 工頭回答說：「她是摩押女子，跟拿俄米剛從摩押回來。 7 她求我讓她跟在收割的人後面，撿工人紮捆時遺落的麥穗。她一大早就來到這裡，一直撿到現在，除了在涼棚裡稍微坐了一會兒之外，幾乎沒有休息。」
8 波阿斯對路得說：「姑娘[a]，聽我說，你不用到別人的田裡去拾麥穗了，也不必離開這裡，只管留下來跟我的女工在一起。 9 你看我的工人在哪一塊田裡收割，就跟著我的女工去，我已經吩咐工人不可欺負你。要是你渴了，就去水罐那裡喝工人打回來的水。」 10 路得就俯伏在地叩謝他，說：「我不過是個外族人，你為什麼這樣恩待我、體恤我？」 11 波阿斯說：「自從你丈夫過世之後，你怎樣善待婆婆，怎樣離開父母和家鄉來到素不相識的人當中，我都聽說了。 12 願耶和華照你所行的獎賞你！你來投靠在以色列的上帝耶和華的翅膀下，願祂厚厚地賞賜你。」 13 路得說：「我主啊！我真是在你面前蒙恩，雖然我連你的婢女都不如，你還好言安慰我。」
14 吃飯的時候，波阿斯對路得說：「來，吃一點餅吧，可以蘸著醋吃。」路得便坐在那些收割工人旁邊。波阿斯遞給她一些烤好的麥穗。她吃飽了，還有剩餘的。 15 當她起來又要去撿麥穗的時候，波阿斯就吩咐他的工人說：「你們要任由她撿，就算她在割下的麥子中撿麥穗，你們也不要為難她。 16 甚至要從麥捆中抽一些出來讓她撿，不要責罵她。」
17 於是，路得便在田間繼續撿麥穗，到了黃昏，她把撿到的麥穗打了，大約有十三公斤大麥。 18 她把撿來的麥子帶回城裡給婆婆拿俄米看，又把剩下來的食物給婆婆。 19 婆婆問她：「你今天在哪裡拾麥穗？在哪裡做工？願那善待你的人蒙福！」她就告訴婆婆說：「今天我在一個名叫波阿斯的人那裡工作。」 20 拿俄米說：「願耶和華賜福給他，他對活著的和過世的都是那麼有情有義。」拿俄米又對路得說：「這人是我們本族的人，是我們的一個近親。」 21 摩押女子路得說：「他還對我說，『你可以跟在我的工人後面撿麥穗，直到他們把我的莊稼都收完為止。』」 22 拿俄米對兒媳路得說：「我的女兒啊，你就跟他的女工一起到田裡去，免得去別人的田裡被欺負。」 23 因此，路得便常跟波阿斯的女工在一起撿麥穗，直到大麥小麥都收割完畢。路得就這樣陪伴婆婆過日子。

Ruth Meets Boaz
2 Now Naomi had a relative of her husband, a man of prominence and means from the clan of Elimelek. His name was Boaz.
2 Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, “Please let me go into the field and glean among the heads of grain behind anyone in whose eyes I may find favor.”
Naomi said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So she went to glean in the field behind the harvesters. She happened to come to a part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.
4 Just then Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the harvesters, “May the Lord be with you!”
And they said to him, “May the Lord bless you.”
5 Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of his harvesters, “Whose young woman is this?”
6 So the servant who was in charge of his harvesters answered, “She is the young Moabitess woman who came back with Naomi from the land of Moab. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather grain among the bundles behind the harvesters.’ So she came and has remained from morning until now, though she rested a little while in the house.”
8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter. Do not go to glean in another field and leave this one. Stay close to my young women. 9 Keep your eyes on the field in which they reap and follow after them. I have commanded the men not to touch you. When you are thirsty, go to the vessels and drink from what the young men have drawn.”
10 So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should acknowledge me, a foreigner?”
11 Boaz answered and said to her, “I have been told all that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, and how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to a people you did not know before. 12 May the Lord reward your deeds. May you have a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”
13 Then she said, “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord, for you have comforted me and have spoken kindly to your servant, though I am not like one of your servant girls.”
14 At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here, and eat some bread, and dip your piece in the vinegar.”
So she sat down beside the harvesters, and he passed her some roasted grain. She ate and was full and had some left over. 15 When she got up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, “Let her glean even among the bundles, and do not harm her. 16 Also pull out some grain for her from the bundles and leave it so that she may glean it, and do not rebuke her.”
17 So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah[a] of barley. 18 She took it up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. She drew it out and gave her what she had left, after she had been satisfied.
19 Her mother-in-law said to her, “Where did you glean today, and where did you work? May he who took notice of you be blessed.”
So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked, and said, “The name of the man with whom I worked today is Boaz.”
20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed of the Lord who has not withdrawn His kindness to the living and to the dead.” Naomi said to her, “This man is a close relative of ours, one of our redeeming relatives.”
21 Then Ruth the Moabitess said, “He even told me, ‘You should stay close to my servants until they have finished all my harvest.’ ”
22 Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It is better, my daughter, that you go with his young women, for in someone else’s field you might be harmed.”
23 So she stayed close to the young women of Boaz to glean until the end of barley harvest and wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law.

Ruth Meets Boaz in the Grain Field
2 Now Naomi had a relative(A) on her husband’s side, a man of standing(B) from the clan of Elimelek,(C) whose name was Boaz.(D)
2 And Ruth the Moabite(E) said to Naomi, “Let me go to the fields and pick up the leftover grain(F) behind anyone in whose eyes I find favor.(G)”
Naomi said to her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So she went out, entered a field and began to glean behind the harvesters.(H) As it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the clan of Elimelek.(I)
4 Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters, “The Lord be with you!(J)”
“The Lord bless you!(K)” they answered.
5 Boaz asked the overseer of his harvesters, “Who does that young woman belong to?”
6 The overseer replied, “She is the Moabite(L) who came back from Moab with Naomi. 7 She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves(M) behind the harvesters.’ She came into the field and has remained here from morning till now, except for a short rest(N) in the shelter.”
8 So Boaz said to Ruth, “My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field and don’t go away from here. Stay here with the women who work for me. 9 Watch the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the women. I have told the men not to lay a hand on you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled.”
10 At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground.(O) She asked him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me(P)—a foreigner?(Q)”
11 Boaz replied, “I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law(R) since the death of your husband(S)—how you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know(T) before.(U) 12 May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord,(V) the God of Israel,(W) under whose wings(X) you have come to take refuge.(Y)”
13 “May I continue to find favor in your eyes,(Z) my lord,” she said. “You have put me at ease by speaking kindly to your servant—though I do not have the standing of one of your servants.”
14 At mealtime Boaz said to her, “Come over here. Have some bread(AA) and dip it in the wine vinegar.”
When she sat down with the harvesters,(AB) he offered her some roasted grain.(AC) She ate all she wanted and had some left over.(AD) 15 As she got up to glean, Boaz gave orders to his men, “Let her gather among the sheaves(AE) and don’t reprimand her. 16 Even pull out some stalks for her from the bundles and leave them for her to pick up, and don’t rebuke(AF) her.”
17 So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she threshed(AG) the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah.[a](AH) 18 She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over(AI) after she had eaten enough.
19 Her mother-in-law asked her, “Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you!(AJ)”
Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. “The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,” she said.
20 “The Lord bless him!(AK)” Naomi said to her daughter-in-law.(AL) “He has not stopped showing his kindness(AM) to the living and the dead.” She added, “That man is our close relative;(AN) he is one of our guardian-redeemers.[b](AO)”
21 Then Ruth the Moabite(AP) said, “He even said to me, ‘Stay with my workers until they finish harvesting all my grain.’”
22 Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, “It will be good for you, my daughter, to go with the women who work for him, because in someone else’s field you might be harmed.”
23 So Ruth stayed close to the women of Boaz to glean until the barley(AQ) and wheat harvests(AR) were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.

2 Now Naomi had a relative on her husband’s side named Boaz. He was a prominent man of noble character(A) from Elimelech’s family.
2 Ruth the Moabitess asked Naomi, “Will you let me go into the fields and gather fallen grain(B) behind someone who allows me to?”
Naomi answered her, “Go ahead, my daughter.” 3 So Ruth left and entered the field to gather grain behind the harvesters. She happened(C) to be in the portion of land belonging to Boaz, who was from Elimelech’s family.
4 Later, when Boaz arrived from Bethlehem, he said to the harvesters, “The Lord be with you.”(D)
“The Lord bless you,”(E) they replied.
5 Boaz asked his servant who was in charge of the harvesters, “Whose young woman is this?”
6 The servant answered, “She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab. 7 She asked, ‘Will you let me gather fallen grain among the bundles behind the harvesters?’ She came and has remained from early morning until now, except that she rested a little in the shelter.”[a]
8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen, my daughter.[b] Don’t go and gather grain in another field, and don’t leave this one, but stay here close to my female servants. 9 See which field they are harvesting, and follow them. Haven’t I ordered the young men not to touch you?[c] When you are thirsty, go and drink from the jars the young men have filled.”
10 She bowed with her face to the ground(F) and said to him, “Why are you so kind to notice me, although I am a foreigner?”
11 Boaz answered her, “Everything you have done for your mother-in-law since your husband’s death has been fully reported to me: how you left your father and mother and the land of your birth, and how you came to a people you didn’t previously know. 12 May the Lord reward you for what you have done,(G) and may you receive a full reward from the Lord God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge.”(H)
13 “My lord,” she said, “you have been so kind to me, for you have comforted and encouraged[d] your slave, although I am not like one of your female servants.”
14 At mealtime Boaz told her, “Come over here and have some bread and dip it in the vinegar sauce.” So she sat beside the harvesters, and he offered her roasted grain. She ate and was satisfied and had some left over.
15 When she got up to gather grain, Boaz ordered his young men, “Let her even gather grain among the bundles, and don’t humiliate her. 16 Pull out some stalks from the bundles for her and leave them for her to gather. Don’t rebuke her.” 17 So Ruth gathered grain in the field until evening. She beat out what she had gathered, and it was about 26 quarts[e] of barley. 18 She picked up the grain and went into the town, where her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. Then she brought out what she had left over from her meal and gave it to her.
19 Then her mother-in-law said to her, “Where did you gather barley today, and where did you work? May the Lord bless the man who noticed you.”(I)
Ruth told her mother-in-law about the men she had worked with and said, “The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz.”
20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, “May he be blessed by the Lord,(J) who has not forsaken his[f] kindness to the living or the dead.”(K) Naomi continued, “The man is a close relative. He is one of our family redeemers.”(L)
21 Ruth the Moabitess said, “He also told me, ‘Stay with my young men until they have finished all of my harvest.’”
22 So Naomi said to her daughter-in-law Ruth, “My daughter, it is good for you to work[g] with his female servants, so that nothing will happen to you in another field.” 23 Ruth stayed close to Boaz’s female servants and gathered grain until the barley and the wheat harvests were finished.(M) And she lived with[h] her mother-in-law.
