1 在士師統治期間，國內發生了饑荒。有一個人帶著妻子和兩個兒子，從猶大的伯利恆前往摩押地去，寄居在那裡。 2 這個人名叫以利米勒，妻子名叫拿俄米，兩個兒子叫瑪倫和基連，都是猶大伯利恆的以法他人。他們到了摩押地，就在那裡住下來了。 3 後來拿俄米的丈夫以利米勒去世了，留下她和兩個兒子。 4 他們娶了摩押女子作妻子，一個名叫俄耳巴，一個名叫路得。他們在那裡住了約有十年。 5 後來，瑪倫和基連二人也死了，留下拿俄米，既沒有了兩個兒子，又沒有了丈夫。
拿俄米與路得同返伯利恆
6 拿俄米還在摩押地的時候，因為聽說耶和華眷顧他的子民，賜糧食給他們，就帶著兩個媳婦動身從摩押地回來。 7 她離開居住的地方，兩個媳婦也隨她出發，要回到猶大地去。 8 拿俄米對兩個媳婦說：“去吧，你們還是各自回娘家吧。願耶和華恩待你們，像你們善待已死的人和我一樣。 9 願耶和華使你們各人有機會再嫁（“有機會再嫁”原文作“在丈夫家裡”），找到歸宿。”跟著親吻她們，她們就發聲大哭， 10 說：“不，我們一定要跟你一起回到你同胞那裡去。” 11 拿俄米說：“我女兒啊，你們回去吧，為甚麼要跟我去呢？我肚子裡還有兒子作你們的丈夫嗎？ 12 走吧，我女兒啊，你們回去吧，因為我太老，不能嫁人了，就算我說我還有希望今天晚上有個丈夫，又生兒子， 13 你們可以等到他們長大嗎？你們可以為他們守節而不嫁人嗎？不行，我女兒啊，我為你們非常難過，因為耶和華伸手對付我。” 14 她們又放聲大哭。俄耳巴就和婆婆吻別，路得卻捨不得離開拿俄米。
15 拿俄米說：“你看，你嫂嫂已經回到她同胞和她的神那裡去了。你也跟著嫂嫂回去吧。” 16 路得說：“請不要逼我離開你回去，不跟從你。你到哪裡去，我也要到哪裡去；你在哪裡過夜，我也要在哪裡過夜；你的同胞就是我的同胞，你的 神就是我的 神； 17 你死在哪裡，我也要死在哪裡，葬在哪裡。除非死亡把你我分離；如果我離開你，願耶和華加倍懲罰我。” 18 拿俄米看路得堅決要跟她走，就不再多費唇舌了。
19 她們雙雙上路，來到伯利恆。她們到達的時候，全城都因她們的緣故騷動起來。婦女們說：“這是拿俄米嗎？” 20 拿俄米對她們說：“不要叫我拿俄米，叫我瑪拉吧，因為全能者使我吃盡了苦頭。 21 我滿滿地出去，耶和華卻使我空空地回來，你們為甚麼還叫我拿俄米呢？耶和華折磨我，全能者加害於我。”
22 拿俄米就這樣回來了。她媳婦摩押女子路得隨著她從摩押地回來。她們到達伯利恆，正是開始收割大麥的時候。

1 Y ACONTECIO en los días que gobernaban los jueces, que hubo hambre en la tierra. Y un varón de Beth-lehem de Judá, fué á peregrinar en los campos de Moab, él y su mujer, y dos hijos suyos.
2 El nombre de aquel varón era Elimelech, y el de su mujer Noemi; y los nombres de sus dos hijos eran, Mahalón y Chelión, Ephrateos de Beth-lehem de Judá. Llegaron pues á los campos de Moab, y asentaron allí.
3 Y murió Elimelech, marido de Noemi, y quedó ella con sus dos hijos;
4 Los cuales tomaron para sí mujeres de Moab, el nombre de la una Orpha, y el nombre de la otra Ruth; y habitaron allí unos diez años.
5 Y murieron también los dos, Mahalón y Chelión, quedando así la mujer desamparada de sus dos hijos y de su marido.
6 Entonces se levantó con sus nueras, y volvióse de los campos de Moab: porque oyó en el campo de Moab que Jehová había visitado á su pueblo para darles pan.
7 Salió pues del lugar donde había estado, y con ella sus dos nueras, y comenzaron á caminar para volverse á la tierra de Judá.
8 Y Noemi dijo á sus dos nueras: Andad, volveos cada una á la casa de su madre: Jehová haga con vosotras misericordia, como la habéis hecho con los muertos y conmigo.
9 Déos Jehová que halléis descanso, cada una en casa de su marido: besólas luego, y ellas lloraron á voz en grito.
10 Y dijéronle: Ciertamente nosotras volveremos contigo á tu pueblo.
11 Y Noemi respondió: Volveos, hijas mías: ¿para qué habéis de ir conmigo? ¿tengo yo más hijos en el vientre, que puedan ser vuestros maridos?
12 Volveos, hijas mías, é idos; que yo ya soy vieja para ser para varón. Y aunque dijese: Esperanza tengo; y esta noche fuese con varón, y aun pariese hijos;
13 ¿Habíais vosotras de esperarlos hasta que fuesen grandes? ¿habías vosotras de quedaros sin casar por amor de ellos? No, hijas mías; que mayor amargura tengo yo que vosotras, pues la mano de Jehová ha salido contra mí.
14 Mas ellas alzando otra vez su voz, lloraron: y Orpha besó á su suegra, mas Ruth se quedó con ella.
15 Y Noemi dijo: He aquí tu cuñada se ha vuelto á su pueblo y á sus dioses; vuélvete tú tras ella.
16 Y Ruth respondió: No me ruegues que te deje, y que me aparte de ti: porque donde quiera que tú fueres, iré yo; y donde quiera que vivieres, viviré. Tu pueblo será mi pueblo, y tu Dios mi Dios.
17 Donde tú murieres, moriré yo, y allí seré sepultada: así me haga Jehová, y así me dé, que sólo la muerte hará separación entre mí y ti.
18 Y viendo Noemi que estaba tan resuelta á ir con ella, dejó de hablarle.
19 Anduvieron pues ellas dos hasta que llegaron á Beth-lehem: y aconteció que entrando en Beth-lehem, toda la ciudad se conmovió por razón de ellas, y decían: ¿No es ésta Noemi?
20 Y ella les respondiá: No me llaméis Noemi, sino llamadme Mara: porque en grande amargura me ha puesto el Todopoderoso.
21 Yo me fuí llena, mas vacía me ha vuelto Jehová. ¿Por qué me llamaréis Noemi, ya que Jehová ha dado testimonio contra mí, y el Todopoderoso me ha afligido?
22 Así volvió Noemi y Ruth Moabita su nuera con ella; volvió de los campos de Moab, y llegaron á Beth-lehem en el principio de la siega de las cebadas.

Naomi’s Husband and Sons Die
1 Now it happened in the days (A)when the judges judged, that there was (B)a famine in the land. And a certain man (C)of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the fields of Moab [a]with his wife and his two sons. 2 The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife, Naomi; and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. Now they (D)came to the fields of Moab and remained there. 3 Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left with her two sons. 4 They took for themselves Moabite women as wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. And they lived there about ten years. 5 Then [b]both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and the woman was left without her two children and her husband.
Ruth Is Determined to Go with Naomi
6 Then she arose with her daughters-in-law and returned from the fields of Moab, for she had heard in the fields of Moab that [c]Yahweh had (E)visited His people to (F)give them [d]food. 7 So she went forth from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. 8 And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each of you to her mother’s house. (G)May Yahweh [e]show lovingkindness with you as you have [f]shown with the dead and with me. 9 May Yahweh grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband.” Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. 10 And they said to her, “No, but we will return with you to your people.” 11 But Naomi said, “Return, my daughters. Why should you go with me? Have I yet sons in my womb, that (H)they may be your husbands? 12 Return, my daughters! Go, for I am too old to have a husband. If I said I have hope, if I should even have a husband tonight and also bear sons, 13 would you therefore wait until they were grown? Would you therefore refrain from marrying? No, my daughters; for it is more bitter for me than for you, for (I)the hand of Yahweh has gone forth against me.” 14 And they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her.
15 Then she said, “Behold, your sister-in-law has returned to her people and her (J)gods; return after your sister-in-law.” 16 But Ruth said, “Do not press me to forsake you in turning back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. Thus may (K)Yahweh do to me, and more, if anything but death separates you and me.” 18 So (L)she saw that she was determined to go with her, and she [g]said no more to her.
19 Then they both went until they came to Bethlehem. Now it happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, (M)all the city was stirred because of them, and [h]the women said, “Is this Naomi?” 20 She said to them, “Do not call me [i]Naomi; call me [j]Mara, for [k](N)the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. 21 I went out full, but (O)Yahweh has caused me to return empty. Why do you call me Naomi? Yahweh has answered against me, and [l]the Almighty has brought calamity against me.”
22 So Naomi returned, and with her Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, who returned from the fields of Moab. Now they came to Bethlehem at (P)the beginning of barley harvest.
