路得麥場見波阿斯
3 一天，路得的婆婆拿俄米對她說：「我的女兒啊，我實在應該為你找個好歸宿，使你生活幸福。 2 波阿斯不是我們的親戚嗎？而且你又常與他的女工在一起。今天晚上他會在麥場簸大麥。 3 你要梳洗打扮、抹上香膏、換件衣服，然後去麥場，但不要讓他認出你是誰。等他吃飽喝足， 4 躺下睡覺的時候，你看準他躺臥的地方，去掀開蓋在他腳上的被，躺在那裡，到時他必定會告訴你該怎樣做。」 5 路得說：「好，我一定照你的吩咐去做。」
6 於是，路得就到麥場去，照她婆婆吩咐的去做。 7 波阿斯吃過晚飯，心裡舒暢，便躺在麥堆旁邊睡著了。路得悄悄過去掀起蓋在他腳上的被，躺在他腳旁。 8 到了半夜，波阿斯忽然驚醒，翻過身來，發現一個女子躺在他的腳旁， 9 便問道：「你是誰？」她答道：「我是你的婢女路得，請用你的衣襟遮蓋我，因為你是我的近親。」 10 波阿斯說：「姑娘，願耶和華賜福給你，因為你一直對婆家情深義重，現在更是如此。你本來可以找一個或窮或富的年輕丈夫，然而你卻沒有這樣做。 11 姑娘，不要怕，你所說的一切，我都會去為你安排，城裡所有的人都知道你是個賢德的女子。 12 不錯，我是你的近親，可是有一個人比我更近。 13 你今晚就留在這裡，明天早上，如果他答應盡親屬的義務，就由他照顧你；如果他不肯，我憑永活的耶和華起誓，我會盡我的本分。現在你只管安心睡覺吧。」
14 路得就躺在波阿斯的腳旁。天未亮，還看不清人的時候，路得就起來了。因為波阿斯曾對她說：「不可讓別人知道有女人來過這裡。」 15 離開的時候，波阿斯對她說：「把你的外衣拿來鋪開。」路得就照做了。他用路得的外衣包了六簸箕大麥，幫她扛在肩上，她便回城了。 16 回到家中，婆婆問她：「女兒啊，怎麼樣了？」路得便將事情的經過都告訴了婆婆。 17 她又說：「那個人給了我六簸箕大麥，對我說，『不要空手回去見你婆婆。』」 18 拿俄米說：「女兒啊！你只管安靜等候，看這事怎樣發展，因為那人今天不把事情辦妥，是絕不會休息的。」

3 路得的婆婆拿俄米對她說：“女兒啊，我不是應當為你找個歸宿，使你得到幸福嗎？ 2 你常常和他的女傭人在一起的波阿斯不是我們的親戚嗎？他今天晚上要在禾場上簸大麥。 3 你洗個澡，抹上香膏，穿上斗篷，就下到禾場去。不過，那個人還沒有吃喝完畢，別讓他認出你來。 4 等到他躺下來，你要弄清楚他所躺的地方，進去掀露他的腳，然後躺下去。他就會告訴你該作甚麼。” 5 路得對她說：“你吩咐的，我就去作。”

6 於是，她下到禾場去，照著婆婆吩咐的一切去作。 7 波阿斯吃喝完了，心裡舒暢，就去躺在麥堆的旁邊。路得悄悄地來，掀露他的腳，躺臥下去。 8 到了夜半，波阿斯驚醒過來，一翻身就看到一個女子躺在他的腳邊， 9 就說：“你是誰？”她回答：“我是你的婢女路得，請用你的衣襟遮蓋你的婢女，因為你是我一個有買贖權的近親。” 10 波阿斯說：“我女兒，願你蒙耶和華賜福。你末後表現的愛心比起初更大，因為年輕人無論貧富，你都沒有跟從。 11 我女兒，現在你不要怕，你所說的，我一定去作。本城的人都知道你是個賢慧的女人。 12 不錯，我是你那有買贖權的近親，可惜還有一個有買贖權的近親比我更親。 13 今晚你就在這裡過夜，明早如果他肯盡買贖你的本分，好，就由他來履行；假如他不願意這樣作，我指著永活的耶和華起誓，我一定盡買贖你的本分。你只管躺到天亮吧。”
14 路得躺在波阿斯腳邊直到早晨。因為波阿斯說過不可以讓人知道有女人來過禾場，路得就趁天色未明，人們彼此無法辨認的時候就起來。 15 他又說：“拿你所披的外衣來，把它打開。”她打開了，他就量了六簸箕大麥，放在她的肩上。路得就進城去。

16 到她婆婆那裡，婆婆就問：“我女兒，怎樣了？”路得就把那人對她所作的一切都告訴了婆婆， 17 又說：“他給我這六簸箕大麥，對我說：‘不要空手去見你婆婆。’” 18 拿俄米說：“我女兒，你儘管安靜等候，直到你知道事情怎樣了結，因為那人今天不把事情辦妥，絕不歇息。”

Ruth’s Redemption
3 One day Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, “My daughter, why should I not find a home that will be good for you? 2 Now is not Boaz our relative, with whose young women you have been working? Tonight he winnows barley on the threshing floor. 3 Now wash and anoint yourself, and put on your best clothes. Then go down to the threshing floor, but do not let the man know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 When he lies down, notice the place where he is lying. Go in and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what you will do.”
5 She said to her, “All that you say to me I will do.” 6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did all that her mother-in-law had instructed.
7 When Boaz had eaten and drunk and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain. Then Ruth came softly, uncovered his feet, and lay down. 8 At midnight, the man was startled and rolled over; and there, a woman was lying at his feet.
9 He said, “Who are you?”
And she answered, “I am Ruth, your maidservant. Spread your cloak over me, for you are a redeeming kinsman.”
10 He said, “May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last act of kindness to be greater than the first, because you have not pursued young men, whether poor or rich. 11 So now, my daughter, do not worry. All that you ask me, I will do for you. All of my fellow townsmen know that you are a woman of noble character. 12 Now it is true that I am a redeeming kinsman. Yet there is another redeemer closer than I am. 13 Stay here tonight, and in the morning if he wants to redeem you, very well. Let him do so. Yet if he does not want to redeem you, then I will redeem you. I will, as the Lord lives! Sleep here until morning.”
14 So she lay at his feet until morning, but she arose before one could recognize another. Then he said, “It must not be known that a woman came to the threshing floor.”
15 He said, “Bring me the shawl you have on you, and hold it.” So she held it, and he poured six measures of barley into it and placed it on her. Then she went into the city.
16 When Ruth came to her mother-in-law, Naomi said, “How did it go, my daughter?”
Then she told her all that Boaz had done for her. 17 She said, “He gave me these six ephahs of barley, for he said to me, ‘Do not return to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’ ”
18 Then Naomi said, “Wait here, my daughter, until you learn what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today.”

Ruth and Boaz at the Threshing Floor
3 One day Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi(A) said to her, “My daughter, I must find a home[a](B) for you, where you will be well provided for. 2 Now Boaz, with whose women you have worked, is a relative(C) of ours. Tonight he will be winnowing barley on the threshing floor.(D) 3 Wash,(E) put on perfume,(F) and get dressed in your best clothes.(G) Then go down to the threshing floor, but don’t let him know you are there until he has finished eating and drinking.(H) 4 When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what to do.”
5 “I will do whatever you say,”(I) Ruth answered. 6 So she went down to the threshing floor(J) and did everything her mother-in-law told her to do.
7 When Boaz had finished eating and drinking and was in good spirits,(K) he went over to lie down at the far end of the grain pile.(L) Ruth approached quietly, uncovered his feet and lay down. 8 In the middle of the night something startled the man; he turned—and there was a woman lying at his feet!
9 “Who are you?” he asked.
“I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment(M) over me, since you are a guardian-redeemer[b](N) of our family.”
10 “The Lord bless you,(O) my daughter,” he replied. “This kindness is greater than that which you showed earlier:(P) You have not run after the younger men, whether rich or poor. 11 And now, my daughter, don’t be afraid. I will do for you all you ask. All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.(Q) 12 Although it is true that I am a guardian-redeemer of our family,(R) there is another who is more closely related than(S) I. 13 Stay here for the night, and in the morning if he wants to do his duty as your guardian-redeemer,(T) good; let him redeem you. But if he is not willing, as surely as the Lord lives(U) I will do it.(V) Lie here until morning.”
14 So she lay at his feet until morning, but got up before anyone could be recognized; and he said, “No one must know that a woman came to the threshing floor.(W)”(X)
15 He also said, “Bring me the shawl(Y) you are wearing and hold it out.” When she did so, he poured into it six measures of barley and placed the bundle on her. Then he[c] went back to town.
16 When Ruth came to her mother-in-law, Naomi asked, “How did it go, my daughter?”
Then she told her everything Boaz had done for her 17 and added, “He gave me these six measures of barley, saying, ‘Don’t go back to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’”
18 Then Naomi said, “Wait, my daughter, until you find out what happens. For the man will not rest until the matter is settled today.”(Z)
