9 耶稣召集了十二使徒[a]，赐给他们能力和权柄胜过一切鬼魔，又能治愈各样疾病， 2 然后差派他们去宣讲神的国，并且使病人痊愈。
3 耶稣对他们说：“你们在路上什么都不要带。不要带手杖，不要带行囊，不要带食物，不要带银子，每个人也不要带两件衣服[b]。 4 你们无论进哪一家，就要住在那里，也要从那里再出发。 5 如果他们不接受你们，你们离开那城的时候，要把脚上的尘土跺掉，做为对他们的见证。” 6 使徒们就出去，走遍各村庄到处传福音，使人痊愈。
希律的困惑
7 分封王希律听说了所发生的这一切，就感到困惑，因为有些人说：“约翰从死人中复活了。” 8 也有些人说：“以利亚显现了。”还有些人说：“古时候的一位先知复活了。” 9 但希律却说：“我已经砍了约翰的头，而这个人又是谁呢？我竟听到关于他这样的事！”于是希律就想要见他。

预言受难与复活
21 耶稣告诫他们，吩咐他们不要把这事告诉任何人。 22 又说：“人子必须受很多苦害，被长老们、祭司长们和经文士们弃绝，并且被杀，然后在第三天复活。”
背起你的十字架
23 耶稣又对大家说：“如果有人想要来跟从我，他就当否定自己，天天[f]背起自己的十字架，然后跟从我。 24 因为凡想要保全[g]自己生命的，将失去生命；凡为我的缘故失去自己生命的，这个人将保全[h]生命。 25 一个人就是赚得了全世界，却丧失了自己，或赔上了自己，到底有什么益处呢？ 26 一个人如果以我和我的话为耻，当人子在自己、父，和圣天使们的荣耀中来临的时候，也要以这个人为耻。 27 我确实地告诉你们：站在这里的有些人，在还没有尝到死的滋味之前，必定见到神的国。”
登山变相
28 说了这些话以后约八天，耶稣带着彼得、约翰、雅各上山去祷告。 29 正在祷告的时候，耶稣的相貌改变了，衣服也洁白发光。 30 这时候，忽然有两个人和耶稣谈话——他们是摩西和以利亚—— 31 他们在荣光中显现，谈论耶稣离世的事，就是他将要在耶路撒冷成就的事。
32 彼得和他的同伴正在沉睡着。可是他们清醒过来时，看见了耶稣的荣光和同他站着的那两个人。 33 那两个人正要离开耶稣的时候，彼得对耶稣说：“老师，我们在这里真好！让我们来搭三座帐幕，一座为你，一座为摩西，一座为以利亚。”他不知道自己在说什么。

41 耶稣回答说：“唉，这个不信、歪曲的世代！我还要和你们在一起多久呢？我还要容忍你们多久呢？把你的儿子带到这里来吧！”
42 那孩子上前来的时候，鬼魔把他摔倒，使他剧烈地抽疯。耶稣就斥责那污灵，使孩子痊愈，把孩子交给他父亲。 43 大家都对神的威荣惊叹不已。
再次预言受难
正当大家对耶稣所做的一切感到惊奇的时候，耶稣对他的门徒们说： 44 “你们要把这话存在耳中：人子将要被交在[j]人的手中。”
45 可是他们不明白这话，因为这话的意思对他们是隐藏的，使他们不能领悟。他们也不敢问耶稣这话的意思。
谁是最大的
46 门徒之间起了争论：他们当中到底谁更大。 47 耶稣看出他们心中的意念，就领来一个小孩子，让他站在自己身旁， 48 然后对他们说：“无论谁奉我的名接受这小孩子，就是接受我；接受我的，就是接受差派我来的那一位。要知道，在你们当中谁更小，他才为大。”
奉耶稣的名
49 约翰回答说：“老师，我们看见一个人奉你的名驱赶鬼魔，我们就去阻止他，因为他不与我们一起跟从你。”
50 耶稣对他说：“不要阻止他，因为不反对你们的，就是支持你们的[k]。”
前往耶路撒冷
51 耶稣升天的日子快到了，他就坚定地面向耶路撒冷而去。 52 他派了几个使者在他前头。他们就去了，进到撒马利亚人的一个村子，要为他做预备。 53 但那里的人不接受他，因为他是往耶路撒冷去的。 54 门徒雅各和约翰看见了，就说：“主啊，你要我们[l]吩咐火从天上降下来烧灭他们吗？”
55 耶稣转过身来责备他们[m]。 56 于是他们往别的村子去了。
跟随耶稣
57 他们在路上走的时候，有一个人对耶稣说：“[n]无论你到哪里去，我都要跟从你。”

The Twelve sent out
9 Jesus called the Twelve together and he gave them power and authority over all demons and to heal sicknesses. 2 He sent them out to proclaim God’s kingdom and to heal the sick. 3 He told them, “Take nothing for the journey—no walking stick, no bag, no bread, no money, not even an extra shirt. 4 Whatever house you enter, remain there until you leave that place. 5 Wherever they don’t welcome you, as you leave that city, shake the dust off your feet as a witness against them.” 6 They departed and went through the villages proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
Herod’s confusion
7 Herod the ruler[a] heard about everything that was happening. He was confused because some people were saying that John had been raised from the dead, 8 others that Elijah had appeared, and still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. 9 Herod said, “I beheaded John, so now who am I hearing about?” Herod wanted to see him.
Jesus feeds the five thousand
10 When the apostles returned, they described for Jesus what they had done. Taking them with him, Jesus withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida. 11 When the crowds figured it out, they followed him. He welcomed them, spoke to them about God’s kingdom, and healed those who were sick.
12 When the day was almost over, the Twelve came to him and said, “Send the crowd away so that they can go to the nearby villages and countryside and find lodging and food, because we are in a deserted place.”
13 He replied, “You give them something to eat.”
But they said, “We have no more than five loaves of bread and two fish—unless we go and buy food for all these people.” 14 (They said this because about five thousand men were present.)
Jesus said to his disciples, “Seat them in groups of about fifty.” 15 They did so, and everyone was seated. 16 He took the five loaves and the two fish, looked up to heaven, blessed them, and broke them and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. 17 Everyone ate until they were full, and the disciples filled twelve baskets with the leftovers.
Following Christ
18 Once when Jesus was praying by himself, the disciples joined him, and he asked them, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”
19 They answered, “John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others that one of the ancient prophets has come back to life.”
20 He asked them, “And what about you? Who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered, “The Christ sent from God.”
21 Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell this to anyone. 22 He said, “The Human One[b] must suffer many things and be rejected—by the elders, chief priests, and the legal experts—and be killed and be raised on the third day.”
23 Jesus said to everyone, “All who want to come after me must say no to themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow me. 24 All who want to save their lives will lose them. But all who lose their lives because of me will save them. 25 What advantage do people have if they gain the whole world for themselves yet perish or lose their lives? 26 Whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Human One[c] will be ashamed of that person when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27 I assure you that some standing here won’t die before they see God’s kingdom.”
Jesus transformed
28 About eight days after Jesus said these things, he took Peter, John, and James, and went up on a mountain to pray. 29 As he was praying, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes flashed white like lightning. 30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, were talking with him. 31 They were clothed with heavenly splendor and spoke about Jesus’ departure, which he would achieve in Jerusalem. 32 Peter and those with him were almost overcome by sleep, but they managed to stay awake and saw his glory as well as the two men with him.
33 As the two men were about to leave Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, it’s good that we’re here. We should construct three shrines: one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”—but he didn’t know what he was saying. 34 Peter was still speaking when a cloud overshadowed them. As they entered the cloud, they were overcome with awe.
35 Then a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, my chosen one. Listen to him!” 36 Even as the voice spoke, Jesus was found alone. They were speechless and at the time told no one what they had seen.
Jesus heals a boy
37 The next day, when Jesus, Peter, John, and James had come down from the mountain, a large crowd met Jesus. 38 A man from the crowd shouted, “Teacher, I beg you to take a look at my son, my only child. 39 Look, a spirit seizes him and, without any warning, he screams. It shakes him and causes him to foam at the mouth. It tortures him and rarely leaves him alone. 40 I begged your disciples to throw it out, but they couldn’t.”
41 Jesus answered, “You faithless and crooked generation, how long will I be with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.” 42 While he was coming, the demon threw him down and shook him violently. Jesus spoke harshly to the unclean spirit, healed the child, and gave him back to his father. 43 Everyone was overwhelmed by God’s greatness.
Jesus warns about his arrest
While everyone was marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus said to his disciples, 44 “Take these words to heart: the Human One[d] is about to be delivered into human hands.” 45 They didn’t understand this statement. Its meaning was hidden from them so they couldn’t grasp it. And they were afraid to ask him about it.
Jesus corrects the disciples
46 An argument arose among the disciples about which of them was the greatest. 47 Aware of their deepest thoughts, Jesus took a little child and had the child stand beside him. 48 Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me. Whoever welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. Whoever is least among you all is the greatest.”
49 John replied, “Master, we saw someone throwing demons out in your name, and we tried to stop him because he isn’t in our group of followers.”
50 But Jesus replied, “Don’t stop him, because whoever isn’t against you is for you.”
Jesus sets out for Jerusalem
51 As the time approached when Jesus was to be taken up into heaven, he determined to go to Jerusalem. 52 He sent messengers on ahead of him. Along the way, they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his arrival, 53 but the Samaritan villagers refused to welcome him because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to consume them?” 55 But Jesus turned and spoke sternly to them, 56 and they went on to another village.
Following Jesus
57 As Jesus and his disciples traveled along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58 Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky have nests, but the Human One[e] has no place to lay his head.”
59 Then Jesus said to someone else, “Follow me.”
He replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. But you go and spread the news of God’s kingdom.”
61 Someone else said to Jesus, “I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say good-bye to those in my house.”
62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand on the plow and looks back is fit for God’s kingdom.”

3 And he said to them, Take nothing for the way, neither staff, nor scrip, nor bread, nor money; nor to have two body-coats apiece.
4 And into whatsoever house ye enter, there abide and thence go forth.
5 And as many as may not receive you, going forth from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a witness against them.
6 And going forth they passed through the villages, announcing the glad tidings and healing everywhere.
7 And Herod the tetrarch heard of all the things which were done [by him], and was in perplexity, because it was said by some that John was risen from among [the] dead,
8 and by some that Elias had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.
9 And Herod said, John *I* have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things? and he sought to see him.
10 And the apostles having returned related to him whatever they had done. And he took them and withdrew apart into [a desert place of] a city called Bethsaida.
11 But the crowds knowing [it] followed him; and he received them and spake to them of the kingdom of God, and cured those that had need of healing.
12 But the day began to decline, and the twelve came and said to him, Send away the crowd that they may go into the villages around, and [into] the fields, and lodge and find victuals, for here we are in a desert place.
13 And he said to them, Give *ye them to eat. And they said, We have not more than five loaves and two fishes, unless *we* should go and buy food for all this people;
14 for they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down in companies by fifties.
15 And they did so, and made them all sit down.
16 And taking the five loaves and the two fishes, looking up to heaven he blessed them, and broke and gave to the disciples to set before the crowd.
17 And they all ate and were filled; and there was taken up of what had remained over and above to them in fragments twelve hand-baskets.
18 And it came to pass as he was praying alone, his disciples were with him, and he asked them saying, Who do the crowds say that I am?
19 But they answering said, John the baptist; but others, Elias; and others, that one of the old prophets has risen again.
20 And he said to them, But *ye*, who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
21 But, earnestly charging them, he enjoined [them] to say this to no man,
22 saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
23 And he said to [them] all, If any one will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me;
24 for whosoever shall desire to save his life shall lose it, but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake, *he* shall save it.
25 For what shall a man profit if he shall have gained the whole world, and have destroyed, or come under the penalty of the loss of himself?
26 For whosoever shall have been ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he shall come in his glory, and [in that] of the Father, and of the holy angels.
27 But I say unto you of a truth, There are some of those standing here who shall not taste death until they shall have seen the kingdom of God.
28 And it came to pass after these words, about eight days, that taking Peter and John and James he went up into a mountain to pray.
29 And as he prayed the fashion of his countenance became different and his raiment white [and] effulgent.
30 And lo, two men talked with him, who were Moses and Elias,
31 who, appearing in glory, spoke of his departure which he was about to accomplish in Jerusalem.
32 But Peter and those with him were oppressed with sleep: but having fully awoke up they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.
33 And it came to pass as they departed from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
34 But as he was saying these things, there came a cloud and overshadowed them, and they feared as they entered into the cloud:
35 and there was a voice out of the cloud saying, *This* is my beloved Son: hear him.
36 And as the voice was [heard] Jesus was found alone: and *they* kept silence, and told no one in those days any of the things they had seen.
37 And it came to pass on the following day, when they came down from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
38 And lo, a man from the crowd cried out saying, Teacher, I beseech thee look upon my son, for he is mine only child:
39 and behold, a spirit takes him, and suddenly he cries out, and it tears him with foaming, and with difficulty departs from him after crushing him.
40 And I besought thy disciples that they might cast him out, and they could not.
41 And Jesus answering said, O unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you and suffer you? Bring hither thy son.
42 But as he was yet coming, the demon tore him and dragged him all together. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child and gave him back to his father.
43 And all were astonished at the glorious greatness of God. And as all wondered at all the things which [Jesus] did, he said to his disciples,
44 Do *ye* let these words sink into your ears. For the Son of man is about to be delivered into men's hands.
45 But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them that they should not perceive it. And they feared to ask him concerning this saying.
46 And a reasoning came in amongst them, who should be [the] greatest of them.
47 And Jesus, seeing the reasoning of their heart, having taken a little child set it by him,
48 and said to them, Whosoever shall receive this little child in my name receives me, and whosoever shall receive me receives him that sent me. For he who is the least among you all, *he* is great.
49 And John answering said, Master, we saw some one casting out demons in thy name, and we forbad him, because he follows not with us.
50 And Jesus said to him, Forbid [him] not, for he that is not against you is for you.
51 And it came to pass when the days of his receiving up were fulfilled, that *he* stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.
52 And he sent messengers before his face. And having gone they entered into a village of the Samaritans that they might make ready for him.
53 And they did not receive him, because his face was [turned as] going to Jerusalem.
54 And his disciples James and John seeing [it] said, Lord, wilt thou that we speak [that] fire come down from heaven and consume them, as also Elias did?
55 But turning he rebuked them [and said, Ye know not of what spirit ye are].
56 And they went to another village.
57 And it came to pass as they went in the way, one said to him, I will follow thee wheresoever thou goest, Lord.
58 And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes and the birds of the heaven roosting-places, but the Son of man has not where he may lay his head.
59 And he said to another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, allow me to go first and bury my father.
60 But Jesus said to him, Suffer the dead to bury their own dead, but do *thou* go and announce the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, I will follow thee, Lord, but first allow me to bid adieu to those at my house.
62 But Jesus said to him, No one having laid his hand on [the] plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.
