供應耶穌的婦女們
8 不久以後，耶穌走遍各個城鎮鄉村，講道、傳神國的福音。與他在一起的有十二使徒[a]。 2 還有一些從邪靈和疾病中被解脫出來[b]、得了痊癒的婦女，其中有那稱為茉大拉的瑪麗亞，從她身上曾經有七個鬼魔被趕出來， 3 又有希律的管家苦撒的妻子約亞娜，以及蘇珊娜和許多別的婦女，她們都用自己所擁有的來服事耶穌和門徒們[c]。
撒種的比喻
4 那時，有一大群人聚集，又有人從各城鎮來到耶穌那裡，耶穌就用比喻說： 5 「有一個撒種的出去撒種。他撒的時候，有的種子落在路邊，被人踐踏，天空的飛鳥也把它吃掉了。 6 有的落在岩石上，一長出來就枯萎了，因為得不到水份。 7 有的落進荊棘叢裡，荊棘與它一起生長，把它擠住了。 8 但另有落進好土壤裡的，長起來，結出百倍的果實。」耶穌講完這些話，就大聲說：「凡是有耳可聽的，就應當聽！」
用比喻的原因
9 耶穌的門徒們問他這比喻到底是什麼意思。 10 他說：「神國的奧祕已經賜下來讓你們知道，但是對其他的人就用比喻。這是為要使
『他們看，卻看不見；
聽，卻不領悟。』[d]
解明撒種的比喻
11 「原來，這個比喻是這樣的。那種子就是神的話語[e]。 12 那『路邊之地』，是這樣的人：他們聽了這話語，然後魔鬼就來，從他們心裡把話語奪走，免得他們信而得救。 13 那『岩石』，是這樣的人：他們一旦聽了，就懷著喜樂的心接受了這話語；可是這些人沒有根，他們暫時相信，而在試煉的時候，就離開信仰[f]了。 14 種子落在其中的那『荊棘叢』，是這樣的人：他們聽了，卻走自己的路[g]，被今生的憂慮、財富和享樂擠住了，結不出成熟的果實。 15 那『好土壤』，是這樣的人：他們聽了這話語，以誠實美善的心持守它，並且在忍耐中結出果實。
油燈的比喻
16 「沒有人點上油燈，用器皿蓋住或放在床底下，而是放在燈臺上，好讓進來的人能看見光。 17 隱祕的事沒有不顯露的，隱藏的事絕沒有不被知道、不顯露出來的。 18 所以，你們要留心怎樣去聽；因為凡是有的，還要賜給他；凡是沒有的，連他自以為有的也將從他那裡被拿走。」
真正的親屬
19 耶穌的母親和弟弟們[h]來到他那裡，可是由於人多，不能靠近他。 20 有人告訴他：「你母親和弟弟們站在外面，想要見你。」
21 耶穌回答他們，說：「我的母親、我的弟兄，是那些聽神的話語[i]而遵行的人。」
平靜風浪
22 就在那些日子裡，有一天耶穌和他的門徒們上了船，耶穌對他們說：「我們渡到湖對岸去吧。」他們就出發了。 23 船行的時候，耶穌睡著了。這時候，暴風降臨到湖上，他們不斷地被水浸灌，情況危險。 24 門徒們上前來叫醒耶穌，說：「老師，老師，我們沒命了！」耶穌就起來，斥責風和浪，風浪就止息，湖面就變得平靜。 25 耶穌對他們說：「你們的信仰在哪裡？」
他們又懼怕，又驚奇，彼此說：「這個人究竟是誰？他竟然命令風和水，連風和水也聽從他！」
在格拉森驅趕鬼魔
26 他們行船到了格拉森[j]人的地方，就是加利利的對岸。 27 耶穌剛上岸，那城裡一個有鬼魔附身的人就迎面而來。這個人已經很長時間不穿衣服，不住在家裡，而住在墓地裡。 28 他一看見耶穌，就喊叫起來，俯伏在耶穌面前，大聲說：「至高神的兒子耶穌，我與你有什麼關係？求求你不要折磨我！」 29 這是因為耶穌吩咐汙靈從那個人身上出來。原來汙靈曾多次抓住那個人，雖然他被鐵鏈和腳鐐捆鎖，被看守著，可是他掙斷鎖鏈，被鬼魔驅逐到曠野去。
30 耶穌問他：「你叫什麼名字？」
他回答說：「軍團。」因為有許多鬼魔進到他裡面。 31 那些鬼魔央求耶穌不要命令它們進無底坑去。
32 當時，那裡有一大群豬正在山上吃食。那些鬼魔就央求耶穌准許它們進入那些豬裡，耶穌准許了它們。 33 鬼魔就從那個人身上出來，進入豬裡面。於是那群豬從山崖衝到湖裡淹死了。 34 那些放豬的人看見所發生的事，就逃跑了，去[k]把這事傳到城裡城外。 35 人們就出來，要看所發生的事，他們來到耶穌那裡，看見鬼魔所離開的那人，穿著衣服，神志清醒地坐在耶穌腳前，他們就懼怕起來。 36 那些看見的人，就告訴大家被鬼魔附身的人怎樣得到救治。 37 格拉森[l]一帶的全體民眾請求耶穌離開他們，因為他們十分懼怕。耶穌就上船回去了。
38 鬼魔所離開的那人央求耶穌，要和他在一起，但耶穌[m]讓他走，說： 39 「你回家去吧，述說神為你做了什麼。」於是他就離開了，在全城裡傳揚耶穌為他做了什麼樣的事[n]。
少女復活、婦人痊癒
40 耶穌回來的時候，一群人來歡迎他，原來大家一直在等候他。 41 這時候，來了一個名叫睚魯的人，他是一個會堂主管。他俯伏在耶穌腳前，懇求耶穌到他家裡去， 42 因為他有一個約十二歲的獨生女兒，快要死了。
耶穌去的時候，人群擁擠著他。 43 有一個婦人，患了十二年的血漏病，在醫生那裡花盡了她所有的養生費用，[o]卻沒有一個人能使她痊癒。 44 她從耶穌後面過來，摸了一下耶穌的衣服穗子，立刻，她的血漏就止住了。
45 耶穌說：「誰摸了我？」
大家都否認。彼得[p]就說：「老師，人群正圍著擁擠你呢！[q]」
46 但是耶穌說：「有人摸了我，因為我知道有能力從我身上出去了。」 47 那婦人知道瞞不過了，就戰戰兢兢地上前俯伏在耶穌面前，在全體民眾面前說出她是因什麼理由摸了耶穌，以及怎樣立刻得了痊癒。 48 耶穌對她說：「女兒，[r]你的信救了你，平平安安地去吧。」
49 耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從會堂主管的家[s]來，對睚魯[t]說：「你的女兒已經死了，不要再麻煩老師了。」
50 耶穌聽了，就對睚魯說：「不要怕，只要信！她就會得救治。」 51 耶穌來到他的家，除了彼得、約翰、雅各和孩子的父母以外，不准任何人與他一起進去。 52 大家都在為那女孩捶胸哀哭。耶穌說：「不要哭！她不是死了，而是睡了。」
53 他們知道女孩已經死了，就譏笑耶穌。 54 但是耶穌[u]握著女孩的手，呼喚說：「孩子，起來！」 55 於是她的靈魂回來了，她就立刻起來。耶穌吩咐給她吃東西。 56 她的父母十分驚訝，耶穌吩咐他們不要把所發生的事告訴任何人。

撒種的比喻
8 此後，耶穌到各城鎮去傳揚上帝國的福音。同行的有十二使徒， 2 還有幾個曾被邪靈和疾病纏身、現在已被醫治的婦女。其中有抹大拉的瑪麗亞，耶穌曾經從她身上趕出七個鬼， 3 還有希律的管家苦撒的妻子約亞娜，此外還有蘇珊娜等其他婦女。她們用自己的錢財資助耶穌和門徒。
4 那時，人群絡繹不絕地從各地聚集到耶穌面前，耶穌用比喻教導他們，說： 5 「有一個農夫到田裡撒種，有些種子落在路旁，被人踐踏，又被飛鳥吃掉了； 6 有些落在蓋著淺土的石頭地上，因水分不足，幼苗剛長出來就枯萎了； 7 有些落在荊棘叢中，荊棘長起來便把幼苗擠住了； 8 有些落在沃土裡，發芽生長，結出百倍的果實。」耶穌講完這番話後，高聲說：「有耳可聽的，就要留心聽。」
9 門徒請耶穌解釋這比喻的意思， 10 耶穌便說：「上帝國的奧祕只讓你們知道，對其他人，我就用比喻，使他們看卻看不見，聽卻聽不明白。 11 這個比喻的意思是這樣，種子代表上帝的道， 12 種子落在路旁是指人聽了道，隨後魔鬼來把道從他們心裡奪走了，不讓他們相信並得救； 13 種子落在蓋著淺土的石頭地上是指人聽了道，欣然接受了，但是沒有根基，只是暫時相信，一遇到試煉就放棄了； 14 種子落在荊棘叢中是指人聽了道，後來被生活的憂慮、錢財和享樂纏住了，以致結不出成熟的果實來； 15 種子落在沃土裡則是指人聽了道，用誠實良善的心堅忍持守，至終結出果實。
點燈的比喻
16 「沒有人點了燈，卻用器皿把它蓋起來或放到床底下，而是放在燈臺上，使進來的人能見到光。 17 掩蓋的事終會暴露出來，隱藏的秘密終會被人知道。 18 因此，你們要留心聽，因為凡有的，還要給他更多；凡沒有的，連他自以為已經擁有的也要被奪去。」
耶穌的親屬
19 這時，耶穌的母親和兄弟來找祂，由於人太多，他們無法靠近耶穌， 20 有人就對祂說：「你的母親和兄弟在外面想見你。」 21 耶穌卻說：「聽見上帝的話語並遵行的人就是我的母親、我的弟兄。」
平靜風浪
22 有一天，耶穌對門徒說：「我們到湖的對岸去吧。」於是他們坐船前往對岸。 23 途中耶穌睡著了。不料湖上忽然狂風大作，船灌滿了水，非常危險。 24 門徒過來喚醒耶穌，說：「主啊，主啊！我們快淹死了！」
耶穌醒來，就斥責風浪，頓時風平浪靜了。
25 耶穌對他們說：「你們的信心在哪裡呢？」
門徒又驚又怕，彼此議論說：「祂究竟是誰？一發命令，連風浪都聽祂的！」
格拉森趕鬼
26 他們渡過加利利湖，到了格拉森地區。 27 耶穌上岸後，迎面遇見當地一個被鬼附身的人。那人長期赤身露體，不住在房屋裡，只住在墓穴中。 28 他一見到耶穌，就仆倒在祂面前，高聲喊叫：「至高上帝的兒子耶穌，我和你有什麼關係？求求你，不要折磨我！」 29 這是因為耶穌已命令污鬼離開那人。那人多次被污鬼操縱，人們用鐵鏈腳鐐把他鎖起來看管，他竟把鎖鏈也扯斷，被鬼催逼到荒野。
30 耶穌問他：「你叫什麼名字？」
他說：「我叫『群』。」因為有一大群鬼附在那人身上。 31 鬼不斷央求耶穌不要叫牠們到無底坑去。
32 當時有一大群豬在附近山坡上覓食，污鬼就央求耶穌准許牠們進入豬群，耶穌答應了。 33 於是那群鬼便離開那人，進入豬群。那群豬就一路奔下陡坡，衝進湖裡淹死了。 34 放豬的人見此情形拔腿就跑，把這事告訴了城裡和鄉下的人。 35 人們出來看個究竟，到了耶穌那裡，發現那曾被鬼附身的人衣著整齊、神智清醒地坐在耶穌腳前，他們都很害怕。 36 目擊者把事情的始末告訴了他們。 37 格拉森地區的居民都十分害怕，請求耶穌離開那裡，耶穌便乘船回去了。
38 那從前被鬼附身的人懇求跟耶穌同行，耶穌卻對他說： 39 「你回家吧，把上帝為你所行的奇事告訴別人。」他就回去，走遍全城，四處傳揚耶穌為他所行的奇事。
雅魯求救
40 耶穌回到對岸，受到等候在那裡的百姓的歡迎。 41 一個名叫雅魯的會堂主管走過來俯伏在耶穌腳前，求耶穌到他家去，因為他有一個大約十二歲的獨生女快要死了。
42 耶穌前去雅魯家的時候，人群擁擠著祂。
患血漏病婦人的信心
43 有一個患了十二年血漏病的婦人耗盡了積蓄，到處求醫，但沒有人能醫治她。 44 婦人擠到耶穌的背後，摸了一下祂衣服的穗邊，她的血漏立刻止住了。
45 耶穌問：「誰摸我？」沒有人說摸過祂。
彼得說：「老師，眾人都在擁擠你。」
46 耶穌卻說：「一定有人摸了我，因為我感覺有能力從我身上出去。」
47 那婦人知道無法隱瞞，就戰戰兢兢地走過來，俯伏在耶穌腳前，把她摸了耶穌的衣裳後頑疾馬上痊癒的始末當眾說了出來。
48 耶穌對她說：「女兒，你的信心救了你！安心回去吧。」
雅魯女兒死而復活
49 耶穌還在說話的時候，有人從雅魯家趕來，對雅魯說：「你的女兒已經死了，不用麻煩老師了。」
50 耶穌聽見，就對雅魯說：「不要怕，只要信。你的女兒一定會好的！」
51 到了雅魯家，耶穌只准彼得、雅各、約翰和雅魯夫婦跟祂進去。 52 屋內的人都在為那女孩哀傷哭泣，耶穌說：「不要哭，她沒有死，只是睡著了。」 53 眾人就譏笑祂，因為他們明明知道那女孩死了。 54 耶穌拉著那女孩的手，說：「孩子，起來！」 55 她的靈魂就回來了，她立刻站了起來。耶穌吩咐人給她東西吃。 56 她的父母非常驚訝，耶穌卻囑咐他們不要把這事傳開。

8 Después de esto, Jesús estuvo recorriendo los pueblos y las aldeas, proclamando las buenas noticias del reino de Dios. Lo acompañaban los doce 2 y también algunas mujeres que habían sido sanadas de espíritus malignos y de enfermedades: María, a la que llamaban Magdalena y de la que habían salido siete demonios; 3 Juana, esposa de Cuza, el administrador de Herodes; Susana y muchas más que los ayudaban con sus propios recursos.
4 De cada pueblo salía gente para ver a Jesús y cuando se reunió una gran multitud, él contó esta parábola: 5 «Un sembrador salió a sembrar. Al esparcir las semillas, una parte cayó junto al camino; fue pisoteada y los pájaros se la comieron. 6 Otra parte cayó sobre las piedras y cuando brotó, las plantas se secaron por falta de humedad. 7 Otra parte cayó entre espinos que, al crecer junto con las semillas, ahogaron las plantas. 8 Pero otra parte cayó en buen terreno; así que brotó y produjo una cosecha del ciento por uno».
Dicho esto, exclamó: «El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga».
9 Sus discípulos preguntaron cuál era el significado de esta parábola. 10 Jesús respondió:
«A ustedes se les ha concedido conocer los misterios del reino de Dios; pero a los demás se les habla por medio de parábolas para que
»“aunque miren, no vean;
aunque oigan, no entiendan”.[a]
11 »Este es el significado de la parábola: La semilla es la palabra de Dios. 12 Los que están junto al camino son los que oyen, pero luego viene el diablo y les quita la palabra del corazón, no sea que crean y se salven. 13 Los que están sobre las piedras son los que reciben la palabra con alegría cuando la oyen, pero no tienen raíz. Estos creen por algún tiempo, pero se apartan cuando llega la prueba. 14 La parte que cayó entre espinos son los que oyen, pero los ahogan las preocupaciones, las riquezas y los placeres de esta vida, y no maduran. 15 Pero la parte que cayó en buen terreno son los que oyen la palabra con corazón noble y bueno, la retienen y, como perseveran, producen una buena cosecha.
Una lámpara en una repisa
16 »Nadie enciende una lámpara para después cubrirla con una vasija o ponerla debajo de la cama, sino para ponerla en un candelero, a fin de que los que entren tengan luz. 17 Porque no hay nada escondido que no llegue a descubrirse ni nada oculto que no llegue a conocerse públicamente. 18 Por lo tanto, pongan mucha atención. Al que tiene se le dará más; al que no tiene hasta lo que cree tener se le quitará».
La madre y los hermanos de Jesús(B)
19 La madre y los hermanos de Jesús fueron a verlo, pero, como había mucha gente, no lograban acercársele.
20 —Tu madre y tus hermanos están afuera y quieren verte —le avisaron.
21 Pero él contestó:
—Mi madre y mis hermanos son los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la ponen en práctica.
Jesús calma la tormenta(C)
22 Un día subió Jesús con sus discípulos a una barca.
—Crucemos al otro lado del lago —dijo.
Así que partieron, 23 y mientras navegaban, él se durmió. Entonces se desató una tormenta sobre el lago, de modo que la barca comenzó a inundarse y corrían gran peligro.
24 Los discípulos fueron a despertarlo.
—¡Maestro, Maestro, nos vamos a ahogar! —gritaron.
Él se levantó y reprendió al viento y a las olas; la tormenta se apaciguó y todo quedó tranquilo.
25 —¿Dónde está la fe de ustedes? —preguntó a sus discípulos.
Con temor y asombro ellos se decían unos a otros: «¿Quién es este que manda aun a los vientos y al agua, y le obedecen?».
Liberación de un endemoniado(D)(E)
26 Navegaron hasta la región de los gerasenos,[b] que está al otro lado del lago, frente a Galilea. 27 Al desembarcar Jesús, un endemoniado que venía del pueblo salió a su encuentro. Hacía mucho tiempo que este hombre no se vestía; tampoco vivía en una casa, sino en los sepulcros. 28 Cuando vio a Jesús, dio un grito y se arrojó a sus pies. Entonces exclamó con fuerza:
—¿Por qué te entrometes, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? ¡Te ruego que no me atormentes!
29 Es que Jesús había ordenado al espíritu maligno que saliera del hombre. Se había apoderado de él muchas veces y, aunque le sujetaban los pies y las manos con cadenas y lo mantenían bajo custodia, rompía las cadenas y el demonio lo arrastraba a lugares solitarios.
30 —¿Cómo te llamas? —le preguntó Jesús.
—Legión —respondió, ya que habían entrado en él muchos demonios.
31 Y estos suplicaban a Jesús que no los mandara al abismo. 32 En una colina estaba alimentándose una manada de muchos cerdos. Entonces los demonios rogaron a Jesús que los dejara entrar en ellos. Así que él les dio permiso. 33 Cuando los demonios salieron del hombre, entraron en los cerdos; entonces la manada se precipitó al lago por el despeñadero y se ahogó.
34 Al ver lo sucedido, los que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron y avisaron en el pueblo y por los campos, 35 por lo que la gente salió a ver lo que había pasado. Llegaron adonde estaba Jesús y encontraron, sentado a sus pies, al hombre de quien habían salido los demonios. Cuando lo vieron vestido y en su sano juicio, tuvieron miedo. 36 Los que habían presenciado estas cosas contaron a la gente cómo el endemoniado había sido sanado. 37 Entonces toda la gente de la región de los gerasenos pidió a Jesús que se fuera de allí, porque les había entrado mucho miedo. Así que él subió a la barca para irse.
38 Ahora bien, el hombre de quien habían salido los demonios rogaba que le permitiera acompañarlo, pero Jesús lo despidió y dijo:
39 —Vuelve a tu casa y cuenta todo lo que Dios ha hecho por ti.
Así que el hombre se fue y proclamó por todo el pueblo lo mucho que Jesús había hecho por él.
Una niña muerta y una mujer enferma(F)
40 Cuando Jesús regresó, la multitud se alegró de verlo, pues todos estaban esperándolo. 41 En esto llegó un hombre llamado Jairo, que era jefe de la sinagoga. Se arrojó a los pies de Jesús y le suplicó que fuera a su casa 42 porque su única hija, de unos doce años, estaba muriendo.
Jesús se puso en camino y las multitudes se agolpaban sobre él. 43 Había entre la gente una mujer que hacía doce años padecía de hemorragias,[c] sin que nadie pudiera sanarla. Había gastado todo lo que tenía en médicos. 44 Ella se le acercó por detrás, tocó el borde de su manto y al instante cesó su hemorragia.
45 —¿Quién me ha tocado? —preguntó Jesús.
Como todos negaban haberlo tocado, Pedro le dijo:
—Maestro, son multitudes las que te aprietan y te oprimen.
46 —No, alguien me ha tocado —respondió Jesús—; yo sé que de mí ha salido poder.
47 La mujer, al ver que no podía pasar inadvertida, se acercó temblando y se arrojó a sus pies. En presencia de toda la gente, contó por qué lo había tocado y cómo había sido sanada al instante.
48 —¡Hija, tu fe te ha sanado! —dijo Jesús—. Vete en paz.
49 Todavía estaba hablando Jesús cuando alguien llegó de la casa de Jairo, jefe de la sinagoga, para decirle:
—Tu hija ha muerto. No molestes más al Maestro.
50 Al oír esto, Jesús dijo a Jairo:
—No tengas miedo; nada más cree y ella será sanada.
51 Cuando llegó a la casa de Jairo, no dejó que nadie entrara con él, excepto Pedro, Juan y Santiago, y también el padre y la madre de la niña. 52 Todos estaban llorando muy afligidos por ella.
—Dejen de llorar —dijo Jesús—. No está muerta, sino dormida.
53 Entonces ellos empezaron a burlarse de él porque sabían que estaba muerta. 54 Pero él la tomó de la mano y dijo:
—¡Niña, levántate!
55 Ella recobró la vida[d] y al instante se levantó. Jesús mandó a darle de comer. 56 Los padres se quedaron atónitos, pero él les advirtió que no contaran a nadie lo que había sucedido.

4 And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable:
5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
9 And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand.
11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
12 Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
13 They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.
15 But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.
16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
18 Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.
19 Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press.
20 And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.
21 And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
22 Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth.
23 But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy.
24 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.
25 And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee.
27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him.
31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep.
32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.
33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country.
35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.
36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.
37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.
38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
40 And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him.
41 And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:
42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.
49 While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master.
50 But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.
51 And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden.
52 And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.
53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise.
55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.
56 And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.

The Parable of the Sower(A)
8 After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.(B) The Twelve were with him, 2 and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene)(C) from whom seven demons had come out; 3 Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s(D) household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. 6 Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”
When he said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(E)
9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you,(F) but to others I speak in parables, so that,
11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.(H) 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.(I) 14 The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches(J) and pleasures, and they do not mature. 15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
A Lamp on a Stand
16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.(K) 17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.(L) 18 Therefore consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what they think they have will be taken from them.”(M)
Jesus’ Mother and Brothers(N)
19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they were not able to get near him because of the crowd. 20 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers(O) are standing outside, wanting to see you.”
21 He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”(P)
Jesus Calms the Storm(Q)(R)
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master,(S) we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked(T) the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.(U) 25 “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples.
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.”
Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(V)(W)
26 They sailed to the region of the Gerasenes,[b] which is across the lake from Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(X) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(Y) I beg you, don’t torture me!” 29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.(Z)
32 A large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. The demons begged Jesus to let them go into the pigs, and he gave them permission. 33 When the demons came out of the man, they went into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake(AA) and was drowned.
34 When those tending the pigs saw what had happened, they ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, 35 and the people went out to see what had happened. When they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet,(AB) dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who had seen it told the people how the demon-possessed(AC) man had been cured. 37 Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,(AD) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
38 The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(AE)
40 Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41 Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader,(AF) came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42 because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.
As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(AG) for twelve years,[c] but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak,(AH) and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked.
When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master,(AI) the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me;(AJ) I know that power has gone out from me.”(AK)
47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(AL) Go in peace.”(AM)
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(AN) “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”
50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”
51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James,(AO) and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning(AP) for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”(AQ)
53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!”(AR) 55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.(AS)
