安息日的主

有一次在安息日[a],耶稣从麦田经过,他的门徒们摘下麦穗,用手搓着吃。 有一些法利赛人说:“你们为什么做安息日不可以做[b]的事呢?”

耶稣回答他们,说:大卫和那些与他在一起的人饥饿时所做的事,你们难道这个也没有读过吗? 他怎样进了神的殿[c],拿了陈设饼吃,还分给与他在一起的人呢?这饼除了祭司一个人之外,谁都不可以吃。” 于是耶稣对他们说:“人子是安息日的主。”

治愈手萎缩的人

在另一个安息日的时候,耶稣进了会堂教导人。那里有一个人,右手枯萎了。 经文士们和法利赛人就密切注意耶稣会不会在安息日使人痊愈,为要找把柄[d]控告他。 耶稣知道他们的意念,就对那手枯萎的人说:“起来,站到中间来!”那人就起来,站着。 耶稣对他们说:“我问你们[e],在安息日是否可以行善或作恶,救命或害命?” 10 他环视周围所有的人,然后对那个人[f]说:“伸出你的手!”那个人一伸,他的手就复原了[g] 11 他们就满腔怒火[h],彼此商量到底怎么对付耶稣。

选定十二使徒

12 就在那些日子里,耶稣有一次出去到山上祷告;他整夜向神祷告。 13 一到天亮,他就招呼他的门徒,从他们中间拣选了十二个人,称他们为使徒:

14 西门——耶稣又称他为彼得
他的弟弟[i]安得烈
又有雅各约翰
腓力巴多罗迈
15 马太多马
亚勒腓的儿子[j]雅各
称为激进派[k]西门
16 雅各的儿子[l]犹大
还有那成为出卖者的加略犹大

教导、治病

17 耶稣与他们一起下了山,站在一块平地上。那里有他的一大[m]群门徒,还有来自整个犹太地区、耶路撒冷以及沿海的提尔西顿的一大群人。 18 他们来是要听他讲说,要他们的病得痊愈。那些被污灵折磨的,都得了痊愈。 19 众人都想要摸到他,因为有能力从他身上发出,使所有的人得痊愈。

论福

20 耶稣举目看着他的门徒们,说:

“贫乏的人是蒙福的,
因为神的国是你们的。
21 如今饥饿的人是蒙福的,
因为你们将得饱足。
如今哭泣的人是蒙福的,
因为你们将要欢笑。
22 当人们因人子的缘故憎恨你们,
排斥你们,责骂你们,
把你们当做恶人革除你们的名,
你们就是蒙福的。

23 “在那一天,你们当欢喜,当欢然跳跃,因为看哪,你们在天上的报偿是大的。要知道,那些人的祖先也是同样对待先知们的。

论祸

24 “不过富有的人,你们有祸了,
因为你们已经得到了你们的安慰。
25 如今[n]饱足的人,你们有祸了,
因为你们将要饥饿。
如今欢笑的人,你们有祸了,
因为你们将要悲伤、哭泣。
26 当所有的人都说你们好的时候,
你们有祸了,
因为他们的祖先也是同样对待假先知们的。

爱敌人

27 “然而我告诉你们这些正在听的人:要爱你们的敌人[o],善待那些恨你们的人; 28 要祝福那些诅咒你们的人,为那些诋毁你们的人祷告。 29 有人打你这边的脸,把另一边也让他打;有人拿走你的外衣,连里衣[p]也不要阻止他拿; 30 任何人求你,都要给他;有人拿走你的东西,不要讨回来。 31 你们希望别人怎样对待你们,你们也应当怎样对待别人。 32 如果你们只爱那些爱你们的人,难道有什么可称赞的吗?其实连罪人也爱那些爱他们的人。 33 如果你们只善待那些善待你们的人,难道有什么可称赞的吗?连罪人也这样做。 34 如果你们借东西,只借给那些有指望能从他们收取[q]的人,那有什么可称赞的呢?就是罪人也借给罪人,为要如数收回。 35 不过你们要爱你们的敌人[r],要善待人;借出去,不指望任何偿还[s]。这样,你们的报偿就大了,而且你们将成为至高者的儿女,因为他以仁慈待那些忘恩负义和邪恶的人。 36 你们要仁慈,正如你们的父是仁慈的。

不要评断

37 “不要评断人,你们就绝不被评断;不要定人的罪,你们就绝不被定罪;要饶恕人,你们就会被饶恕。 38 你们要给与,就会被赐予,而且用十足的量器,连摇带按、满满当当地倒在你们怀里,因为,你们用什么量器[t]来衡量,也会同样地被衡量。”

39 耶稣又对他们讲了一个比喻:“难道瞎子能给瞎子领路吗?两个人不都会掉进坑里吗? 40 学生不高于他的老师,但所有学成的人,将会像他的老师一样。

41 “你为什么看见你弟兄眼里的木屑,却不想自己眼里的梁木呢? 42 你看不见自己眼里的梁木,怎么能对你弟兄说‘弟兄啊,让我除掉你眼里的木屑’呢?你这伪善的人!先除掉你自己眼里的梁木,然后你才能看得清楚,好除掉你弟兄眼里的木屑。

树与果

43 “好树不结坏果子,坏[u]树也不结好果子。 44 这样,每一棵树都是凭着它的果子被认出来。人不从蒺藜中收无花果,也不从荆棘上摘葡萄。 45 好人从他心里所存的善,发出善来;坏人从他心里所存的[v]恶,发出恶来;因为人心里所充满的,口里就说出来。

两种根基

46 “你们为什么称呼我‘主啊,主啊!’却不遵行我所说的话呢? 47 我要指示你们,凡是到我这里来听了我的话而实行的人是什么样的人: 48 他好比一个人建造房子,深深地挖掘,把根基立在磐石上。洪水泛滥,急流冲击那房子,也不能使它摇动,因为建造得稳固[w][x] 49 然而,那听见而不实行的人,就好比一个人把房子建在地面上,没有根基。急流一冲,立刻倒塌了,并且那房子毁坏得非常厉害。”

Lord of the Sabbath

On a Sabbath, he passed through the cornfields.(A) His disciples were picking ears of corn, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them. But some of the Pharisees said, ‘Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath? ’(B)

Jesus answered them, ‘Haven’t you read what David and those who were with him did when he was hungry –  how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?(C) He even gave some to those who were with him.’(D) Then he told them, ‘The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.’

On another Sabbath(E) he entered the synagogue and was teaching. A man was there whose right hand was shrivelled. The scribes and Pharisees were watching him closely,(F) to see if he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they could find a charge against him.(G) But he knew their thoughts(H) and told the man with the shrivelled hand, ‘Get up and stand here.’[a] So he got up and stood there. Then Jesus said to them, ‘I ask you: Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it? ’(I) 10 After looking round at them all,(J) he told him, ‘Stretch out your hand.’(K) He did, and his hand was restored.[b] 11 They, however, were filled with rage and started discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Twelve Apostles

12 During those days he went out to the mountain to pray(L) and spent all night in prayer to God. 13 When daylight came, he summoned his disciples,(M) and he chose twelve of them, whom he also named apostles:(N) 14 Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; 15 Matthew and Thomas;(O) James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; 16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Teaching and Healing

17 After coming down with them, he stood on a level place with a large crowd of his disciples and a great number of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon.(P) 18 They came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those tormented by unclean spirits were made well. 19 The whole crowd was trying to touch him,(Q) because power was coming out from him and healing them all.(R)

The Beatitudes

20 Then looking up at his disciples, he said:(S)

Blessed are you who are poor,
because the kingdom of God is yours.
21 Blessed are you who are hungry now,
because you will be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
because you will laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you,
when they exclude you,(T) insult you,
and slander your name as evil(U)
because of the Son of Man.(V)

23 ‘Rejoice in that day and leap for joy. Take note – your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets.(W)

Woe to the Self-Satisfied

24 But woe to you who are rich,
for you have received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are now full,
for you will be hungry.
Woe to you[c] who are now laughing,
for you will mourn and weep.
26 Woe to you[d]
when all people speak well of you,
for this is the way their ancestors
used to treat the false prophets.(X)

Love Your Enemies

27 ‘But I say to you who listen: Love your enemies, do what is good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.(Y) 29 If anyone hits you on the cheek,(Z) offer the other also. And if anyone takes away your coat, don’t hold back your shirt either. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and from someone who takes your things, don’t ask for them back. 31 Just as you want others to do for you, do the same for them.(AA) 32 If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.(AB) 33 If you do what is good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you?(AC) Even sinners lend to sinners, to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High.(AD) For he is gracious to the ungrateful and evil. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.(AE)

Do Not Judge

37 ‘Do not judge, and you will not be judged.(AF) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.(AG) 38 Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure – pressed down, shaken together, and running over – will be poured into your lap.(AH) For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.’(AI)

39 He also told them a parable: ‘Can the blind guide the blind? Won’t they both fall into a pit?(AJ) 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.(AK)

41 ‘Why do you look at the splinter in your brother’s eye, but don’t notice the beam of wood in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,” when you yourself don’t see the beam of wood in your eye? Hypocrite! First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the splinter in your brother’s eye.

A Tree and Its Fruit

43 ‘A good tree doesn’t produce bad fruit; on the other hand, a bad tree doesn’t produce good fruit.[e](AL) 44 For each tree is known by its own fruit. Figs aren’t gathered from thorn bushes, or grapes picked from a bramble bush. 45 A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart. An evil person produces evil out of the evil stored up in his heart, for his mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.

The Two Foundations

46 ‘Why do you call me “Lord, Lord,” and don’t do the things I say?(AM) 47 I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, hears my words, and acts on them:(AN) 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great.’(AO)
