耶穌受試探
4 耶穌充滿聖靈，從約旦河回來，被聖靈帶到曠野， 2 受魔鬼的試探四十天。在那些日子裡，耶穌什麼也沒有吃，四十天結束的時候[a]，他就餓了。 3 魔鬼對他說：「你如果是神的兒子，就吩咐這石頭變成食物吧！」
4 耶穌回答：「經上記著：『人活著不是單靠食物[b]。』[c]」
5 魔鬼[d]就把耶穌領上高處[e][f]，在一瞬間給他看天下萬國， 6 對他說[g]：「這一切權柄和榮耀我都將給你，因為這已經交給了我，我願意給誰就給誰。 7 所以，你如果在我面前下拜，這一切就都是你的了。」
8 耶穌回答說：「[h]經上記著：
『要敬拜主——你的神，
唯獨事奉他。』[i]」
9 魔鬼又帶耶穌到耶路撒冷，讓他站在聖殿的頂端，對他說：「你如果是神的兒子，就從這裡跳下去吧！ 10 因為經上記著：
『他會為你吩咐他的天使保護你；
11 他們會用手托住你，
免得你的腳撞在石頭上。』[j]」
12 耶穌回答說：「經上說：『不可試探主——你的神。』[k]」
13 魔鬼用盡種種試探以後，就暫時離開了耶穌。
在加利利的服事
14 耶穌帶著聖靈的能力[l]回到加利利，他的消息傳遍了周圍所有的地區。 15 他在他們的會堂裡教導人，受到所有人的讚揚。
在拿撒勒被拒絕
16 耶穌來到拿撒勒，就是他長大的地方。在安息日那天，他照自己的習慣進了會堂，站起來要誦讀經文。 17 有人就把先知以賽亞的書遞給他。他展開書卷，找到一處，那裡寫道：
20 然後耶穌把書捲好，還給會堂助理，坐了下來。會堂裡，眾人的眼睛都注視著他。 21 耶穌開始對他們說：「今天，在你們耳中的這段經文，已經應驗了。」
22 大家都讚許他，對他口裡所發出的恩典的話語感到驚奇，又說：「這不就是約瑟的兒子嗎？」
23 耶穌對他們說：「你們一定會用這句諺語對我說：『醫生啊，使你自己痊癒吧！』，『我們聽見在迦百農所發生的事，你在你的家鄉這裡也應該做！』」
24 耶穌又說：「我確實地告訴你們：沒有一位先知在自己的家鄉是受歡迎的。 25 我真的告訴你們：在以利亞的那些日子裡，天空閉塞了三年六個月，遍地有大饑荒，那時，在以色列有許多寡婦； 26 可是以利亞並沒有被派遣到她們中的任何一個人那裡，只被派遣到西頓的撒勒法一個寡婦那裡。 27 還有，在先知以利沙的時代，在以色列有許多痲瘋病人；可是除了敘利亞人奈曼以外，沒有一個人被潔淨。」
28 會堂裡的人聽了這些話，都滿腔怒火。 29 他們就起來把耶穌趕出城外，拉到山崖上，要把他推下去。他們的城是建在山上的。 30 但耶穌從他們中間穿過去，走開了。
驅趕鬼魔
31 耶穌下到加利利的一個城迦百農去，在安息日教導人。 32 眾人對他的教導都驚嘆不已，因為他的話具有權柄。 33 在會堂裡，有一個被汙穢的鬼魔之靈附身的人。他大聲喊叫： 34 「別管我們！拿撒勒人耶穌，我們與你有什麼關係？你來毀滅我們嗎？我知道你是誰，你是神的那位聖者。」
35 耶穌斥責汙靈說：「住口！從他身上出來！」
鬼魔把那個人摔倒在眾人中間，就從他身上出來了，但沒有傷害他。 36 大家都驚訝不已，彼此談論說：「這是什麼事呢？他帶著權柄和能力命令那些汙靈，它們就出來了！」 37 於是耶穌的名聲傳遍了那一帶所有的地方。
在迦百農治病
38 耶穌起身離開會堂，進了西門的家。西門的岳母正發高燒，他們就為她求耶穌。 39 耶穌就站在她旁邊，斥責那高燒，燒就退了。她立刻起來，服事他們。
40 日落的時候，眾人把患有各種疾病的人都帶到耶穌那裡。他按手在他們每一個人身上，使他們痊癒。 41 也有鬼魔從許多人身上出來，喊叫說：「你是[q]神的兒子！」耶穌斥責它們，不讓它們說話，因為它們知道他是基督。
在加利利傳道
42 天亮的時候，耶穌出去，走到一個荒僻的地方。眾人尋找他，來到他那裡，想留住他，不讓他離開。 43 但是耶穌對他們說：「我還必須到別的城去傳神國的福音，因為我是為此奉差派的。」 44 於是耶穌繼續在加利利[r]地區的各會堂裡傳道。

4 Then Yeshua, filled with the Ruach HaKodesh, returned from the Yarden and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days of testing by the Adversary. During that time he ate nothing, and afterwards he was hungry. 3 The Adversary said to him, “If you are the Son of God, order this stone to become bread.” 4 Yeshua answered him, “The Tanakh says, ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’”[a]
5 The Adversary took him up, showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world, 6 and said to him, “I will give you all this power and glory. It has been handed over to me, and I can give it to whomever I choose. 7 So if you will worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 Yeshua answered him, “The Tanakh says, ‘Worship Adonai your God and serve him only.’”[b]
9 Then he took him to Yerushalayim, set him on the highest point of the Temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, jump from here! 10 For the Tanakh says,
‘He will order his angels
to be responsible for you and to protect you.
11 They will support you with their hands,
so that you will not hurt your feet on the stones.’”[c]
12 Yeshua answered him, “It also says, ‘Do not put Adonai your God to the test.’”[d] 13 When the Adversary had ended all his testings, he let him alone until an opportune time.
14 Yeshua returned to the Galil in the power of the Spirit, and reports about him spread throughout the countryside. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone respected him.
16 Now when he went to Natzeret, where he had been brought up, on Shabbat he went to the synagogue as usual. He stood up to read, 17 and he was given the scroll of the prophet Yesha‘yahu. Unrolling the scroll, he found the place where it was written,
18 “The Spirit of Adonai is upon me;
therefore he has anointed me
to announce Good News to the poor;
he has sent me to proclaim freedom for the imprisoned
and renewed sight for the blind,
to release those who have been crushed,
19 to proclaim a year of the favor of Adonai.”[e]
20 After closing the scroll and returning it to the shammash, he sat down; and the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. 21 He started to speak to them: “Today, as you heard it read, this passage of the Tanakh was fulfilled!” 22 Everyone was speaking well of him and marvelling that such appealing words were coming from his mouth. They were even asking, “Can this be Yosef’s son?”
23 Then Yeshua said to them, “No doubt you will quote to me this proverb — ‘“Doctor, cure yourself!” We’ve heard about all the things that have been going on over in K’far-Nachum; now do them here in your home town!’ 24 Yes!” he said, “I tell you that no prophet is accepted in his home town. 25 It’s true, I’m telling you — when Eliyahu was in Isra’el, and the sky was sealed off for three-and-a-half years, so that all the Land suffered a severe famine, there were many widows; 26 but Eliyahu was sent to none of them, only to a widow in Tzarfat in the land of Tzidon. 27 Also there were many people with tzara‘at in Isra’el during the time of the prophet Elisha; but not one of them was healed, only Na‘aman the Syrian.”
28 On hearing this, everyone in the synagogue was filled with fury. 29 They rose up, drove him out of town and dragged him to the edge of the cliff on which their town was built, intending to throw him off. 30 But he walked right through the middle of the crowd and went away.
31 He went down to K’far-Nachum, a town in the Galil, and made a practice of teaching them on Shabbat. 32 They were amazed at the way he taught, because his word carried the ring of authority.
33 In the synagogue there was a man who had an unclean demonic spirit, who shouted in a loud voice, 34 “Yaah! What do you want with us, Yeshua from Natzeret? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are — the Holy One of God!” 35 But Yeshua rebuked it: “Be quiet, and come out of him!” The demonic spirit threw the man down in the middle of the crowd and came out of him, having done him no harm. 36 They were all astounded and said to one another, “What kind of teaching is this? Why, he gives orders with power and authority to the unclean spirits, and they come out!” 37 And reports about him went out through the whole surrounding district.
38 Leaving the synagogue, he went to Shim‘on’s house. Shim‘on’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him to do something for her. 39 So, standing over her, he rebuked the fever; and it left her. She immediately got up and began helping them.
40 After sunset, all those who had people sick with various diseases brought them to Yeshua, and he put his hands on each one of them and healed them; 41 also demons came out of many, crying, “You are the Son of God!” But, rebuking them, he did not permit them to say that they knew he was the Messiah.
42 When day had come, he left and went away to a lonely spot. The people looked for him, came to him and would have kept him from leaving them. 43 But he said to them, “I must announce the Good News of the Kingdom of God to the other towns too — this is why I was sent.” 44 He also spent time preaching in the synagogues of Y’hudah.

Temptation in the Wilderness
4 Yeshua, now filled with the Ruach ha-Kodesh, returned from the Jordan. He was led by the Ruach in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tested by the devil. Now He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He was hungry.
3 The devil said to Him, “If You are Ben-Elohim, tell this stone to become bread.”
4 Yeshua answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’”[a]
5 And leading Him up, the devil showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in an instant. 6 And the devil said to Him, “I’ll give to You all this authority along with its glory, because it has been handed over to me and I can give it to anyone I wish. 7 Therefore, if you will worship before me, all this shall be Yours.”
8 But answering, Yeshua told him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship Adonai your God, and Him only shall you serve.’”[b]
9 Then he brought Yeshua to Jerusalem and placed Him on the highest point of the Temple. He said to Him, “If You are Ben-Elohim, throw Yourself down from here. 10 For it is written,
‘He will command His angels concerning you,
to guard you,’[c]
11 and ‘upon their hands they will lift you up,
so that you may not strike your foot against a stone.’”[d]
12 But answering, Yeshua said to him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put Adonai your God to the test.’” [e] 13 And when the devil had completed every test, he departed from Him until another occasion.
Isaiah’s Prophecy Fulfilled in Natzeret
14 Yeshua returned in the power of the Ruach to the Galilee, and news about Him went out through all the surrounding region. 15 He taught in their synagogues, and everyone was praising Him. 16 And He came to Natzeret, where He had been raised. As was His custom, He went into the synagogue on Shabbat, and He got up to read. 17 When the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him, He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
18 “The Ruach Adonai is on me,
because He has anointed me
to proclaim Good News to the poor.
He has sent me[f] to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
19 and to proclaim the year of Adonai’s favor.”[g]
20 He closed the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue were focused on Him. 21 Then He began to tell them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your ears.”
22 All were speaking well of Him and marveling at the gracious words coming out of His mouth. And they were saying, “Isn’t this the son of Joseph?”
23 But He said to them, “Doubtless you will say to Me this proverb, ‘Doctor, heal yourself!’ and ‘What we have heard was done at Capernaum, do as much here also in your hometown.’”
24 But He said, “Truly, I tell you, ‘No prophet is accepted in his own hometown.’ 25 But with all truthfulness I say to you, that there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when heaven was closed for three and a half years and there came a great famine over all the land. 26 Elijah was not sent to any of them, but only to Zarephath in the land of Sidon, to a widowed woman. [h] 27 There were many with tzara’at in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them were purified apart from Naaman the Syrian.”[i]
28 Now all in the synagogue were filled with rage upon hearing these things. 29 Rising up, they drove Him out of the town and brought Him as far as the edge of the mountain on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him off the cliff. 30 But passing through the middle of them, He went on His way.
Healing and Deliverance in Capernaum and Beyond
31 Yeshua came down to Capernaum, a town in the Galilee. He was teaching them on Shabbat, 32 and they were astounded at His teaching because His message had authority. 33 In the synagogue was a man who had an unclean demonic spirit, and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 “Ah! What have we to do with You, Yeshua of Natzeret? Have You come to destroy us? I know who You are! You are the Holy One of God!”
35 Yeshua rebuked him, saying, “Quiet! Come out of him!” And when the demon threw him down in their midst, it came out without hurting him.
36 They were all amazed, and they spoke to one another, saying, “What is this message? For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.” 37 So His reputation grew, spreading to every place in that region.
38 After He left the synagogue, Yeshua entered Simon’s home. Simon’s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they petitioned Him concerning her. 39 Then standing over her, He rebuked the fever and it left her. Immediately she arose to wait on them.
40 When the sun was setting, they brought to Yeshua all who were sick with various diseases. And He was laying hands on each one and healing them. 41 Even demons were coming out from many, shouting out and saying, “You are Ben-Elohim!”[j] But He was rebuking them and not permitting them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Messiah.
42 Now when it was day, He left and went to a desert place. The crowds were searching for Him, and they came to Him and were trying to keep Him from leaving them. 43 But He said to them, “I must proclaim the Good News of the kingdom of God[k] to the other towns also. It was for this purpose I was sent.” 44 So He kept preaching in the synagogues of Judea.
