在彼拉多面前受审
23 于是他们全体民众就起来，把耶稣带到彼拉多面前， 2 开始控告耶稣，说：“我们发现这个人在败坏我们的同胞，阻止纳税给凯撒，还自称是基督、是王。”
3 彼拉多问耶稣：“你是犹太人的王吗？”
耶稣回答说：“是你说的。” 4 彼拉多对祭司长们和众人说：“我查不出这个人有什么罪。”
5 他们却更加坚持说：“他在犹太全地教导、煽动民众，从加利利开始，一直到这里。”
在希律前受审
6 彼拉多听了[a]，就问：“这人是不是加利利人？” 7 当他了解耶稣属于希律管辖，就把他送到希律那里。在那些日子里，希律正好也在耶路撒冷。 8 希律见到耶稣就极其欢喜，因为他听说过耶稣的事，早就想要见他，一直希望看他行个神迹。 9 于是他问了耶稣许多话，但是耶稣什么都不回答。 10 祭司长们和经文士们都站在那里，极力控告他。 11 希律和他的军兵就藐视耶稣，戏弄他，给他披上华丽的衣服，然后把他送回彼拉多那里。 12 在这一天，希律和彼拉多竟互相成了朋友；原来他们两个人一向是彼此有仇的。
耶稣或巴拉巴
13 彼拉多召集了祭司长们、首领们和民众， 14 对他们说：“你们把这个人带到我这里来，说他是误导民众造反的。看，我已经当着你们的面审问了他，在他身上却一点也查不出你们所控告的罪。 15 其实希律也查不出来，所以把他送回给我们。看，他没有做过什么该死的事。 16 因此，惩罚了以后，我要释放他。” 17 每逢这节日，总督必须给他们释放一个囚犯。[b]
18 他们却一齐喊叫说：“除掉这个人！给我们释放巴拉巴！” 19 这巴拉巴是因为在城里发生的一个暴乱和杀人案，被投进监狱的。
20 彼拉多想要释放耶稣，就再次向他们呼吁。 21 但他们却一直喊叫说：“钉上十字架！把他钉上十字架！”
22 彼拉多第三次对他们说：“这个人到底做了什么恶事呢？我查不出他有什么该死的罪。所以，惩罚了以后，我要释放他！”
23 他们催逼彼拉多，大声要求把耶稣钉上十字架，他们[c]的喊声终于[d]得胜了。 24 于是，彼拉多决定成全他们所求的， 25 释放了他们所要的那个因暴乱和杀人被投进监狱的人，却随他们的意思，把耶稣交出去。
十字架之路
26 他们把耶稣带走的时候，抓了一个从乡下来的古利奈人西门，把十字架放在他身上，要他背着，跟在耶稣后面。 27 有一大群人跟着耶稣，其中有些妇女为他捶胸哀哭。 28 耶稣转过身来，对她们说：“耶路撒冷的女儿啊，不要为我哭，而要为你们自己、为你们的儿女哭！ 29 看，日子将要来到，那时人们会说：‘不能生育、没有怀过胎和没有乳养过婴儿的，是蒙福的！’ 30 那时人们将开始对山岭说：‘倒在我们身上吧！’对丘陵说：‘遮盖我们吧！’[e] 31 他们在树木青绿的时候尚且做这些事，那么在它枯萎的时候，还会发生什么呢？”
被钉在罪犯之间
32 另有两个囚犯也和耶稣一起被带去处死。 33 当他们来到一个地方，叫做“骷髅”，就在那里把耶稣钉上十字架，又钉了那两个囚犯，一个在右边，一个在左边。 34 那时，耶稣说：“父啊，赦免他们！因为他们不知道自己在做什么。”[f]士兵们[g]抽签分了他的衣服。
35 民众站着观看。首领们也讥笑，说：“他救了别人！如果这个人是神的基督，是蒙拣选的那一位，让他救自己吧！” 36 士兵们也上前来戏弄他，给他献上酸酒， 37 说：“你如果是犹太人的王，救救你自己吧！”
38 在耶稣的上方有一个牌子[h]：“这是犹太人的王。”
39 被悬挂的两个囚犯中，有一个辱骂他说：“你不是基督吗？救救你自己，也救救我们吧！”
40 另一个就应声斥责他，说：“你既然同样受惩罚，还不怕神吗？ 41 我们受刑[i]理所应当，因为我们所受的与我们所做的相称。但这个人却没有做过什么坏事。” 42 他接着说：“耶稣啊，[j][k]你进了你国度的时候，求你记念我。”
43 耶稣[l]对他说：“我确实地告诉你：今天你要与我一起在乐园里了。”
耶稣之死
44 那时大约是中午十二点[m]，黑暗笼罩了整个大地，一直到下午三点[n]。 45 太阳失去了光[o]，同时，圣所里的幔子裂成两半。 46 耶稣大声呼唤：“父啊，我把我的灵魂交托在你手中。”[p]说完这话，就断了气。
47 百夫长看见所发生的事，就不住地荣耀神，说：“这个人的确是义人。” 48 所有聚集见这场面的众人，看到所发生的事，都捶着胸回去了。 49 所有熟悉耶稣的人，包括那些从加利利一直跟着他来的妇女，都站在远处看这些事。
安葬
50 当时，有一个名叫约瑟的人，是犹太议会中的议员，为人公义良善。 51 这个人并没有赞同他们的计划和行为；他是犹太的亚利马太城的人，一直期待着神的国。 52 他来到彼拉多面前，请求要耶稣的遗体。 53 他把遗体取下来，用细麻布裹好，安放在一座岩石凿成的墓穴里，那里从来没有安放过人。 54 那天是预备日，安息日快要到了[q]。 55 那些从加利利陪耶稣一起来的妇女跟在后面。她们看到了那墓穴，也看到了耶稣的遗体怎样被安放， 56 就回去预备香料和香液。不过在安息日，她们还是按照诫命休息了。

Pilate Questions Jesus(A)
23 Then the entire assembly stood up and took him to Pilate.
2 They began to accuse Yeshua by saying, “We found that he stirs up trouble among our people: He keeps them from paying taxes to the emperor, and he says that he is Christ, a king.”
3 Pilate asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“Yes, I am,” Yeshua answered.
4 Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowd, “I can’t find this man guilty of any crime.”
Pilate Sends Jesus to Herod
5 The priests and the crowd became more forceful. They said, “He stirs up the people throughout Judea with his teachings. He started in Galilee and has come here.”
6 When Pilate heard that, he asked if the man was from Galilee. 7 When Pilate found out that he was, he sent Yeshua to Herod. Herod ruled Galilee and was in Jerusalem at that time.
8 Herod was very pleased to see Yeshua. For a long time he had wanted to see him. He had heard about Yeshua and hoped to see him perform some kind of miracle. 9 Herod asked Yeshua many questions, but Yeshua wouldn’t answer him. 10 Meanwhile, the chief priests and the experts in Moses’ Teachings stood there and shouted their accusations against Yeshua.
11 Herod and his soldiers treated Yeshua with contempt and made fun of him. They put a colorful robe on him and sent him back to Pilate. 12 So Herod and Pilate became friends that day. They had been enemies before this.
13 Then Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people. 14 He told them, “You brought me this man as someone who turns the people against the government. I’ve questioned him in front of you and haven’t found this man guilty of the crimes of which you accuse him. 15 Neither could Herod. So he sent this man back to us. This man hasn’t done anything to deserve the death penalty. 16 So I’m going to have him whipped and set free.”[a]
The Crowd Rejects Jesus(B)
18 The whole crowd then shouted, “Take him away! Free Barabbas for us.” 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for his involvement in a riot that had taken place in the city and for murder.)
20 But because Pilate wanted to free Yeshua, he spoke to the people again.
21 They began yelling, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22 A third time Pilate spoke to them. He asked, “Why? What has he done wrong? I haven’t found this man deserving of the death penalty. So I’m going to have him whipped and set free.”
23 But the crowd pressured Pilate. They shouted that Yeshua had to be crucified, and they finally won. 24 Pilate decided to give in to their demand. 25 He freed Barabbas, who had been put in prison for rioting and murdering, because that’s what they wanted. But he let them do what they wanted to Yeshua.
Jesus Is Led Away to Be Crucified
26 As the soldiers led Yeshua away, they grabbed a man named Simon, who was from the city of Cyrene. Simon was coming into Jerusalem. They laid the cross on him and made him carry it behind Yeshua.
27 A large crowd followed Yeshua. The women in the crowd cried and sang funeral songs for him. 28 Yeshua turned to them and said, “You women of Jerusalem, don’t cry for me! Rather, cry for yourselves and your children! 29 The time is coming when people will say, ‘Blessed are the women who couldn’t get pregnant, who couldn’t give birth, and who couldn’t nurse a child.’ 30 Then people will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us!’ 31 If people do this to a green tree, what will happen to a dry one?”
32 Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be executed with him.
The Crucifixion(C)
33 When they came to the place called The Skull, they crucified him. The criminals were also crucified, one on his right and the other on his left.
34 Then Yeshua said, “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they’re doing.”[b]
Meanwhile, the soldiers divided his clothes among themselves by throwing dice.
35 The people stood there watching. But the rulers were making sarcastic remarks. They said, “He saved others. If he’s the Messiah that God has chosen, let him save himself!” 36 The soldiers also made fun of him. They would go up to him, offer him some vinegar, 37 and say, “If you’re the king of the Jews, save yourself!”
38 A written notice was placed above him. It said, “This is the king of the Jews.”
Criminals Talk to Jesus
39 One of the criminals hanging there insulted Yeshua by saying, “So you’re really the Messiah, are you? Well, save yourself and us!”
40 But the other criminal scolded him: “Don’t you fear God at all? Can’t you see that you’re condemned in the same way that he is? 41 Our punishment is fair. We’re getting what we deserve. But this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Yeshua, remember me when you enter your kingdom.”
43 Yeshua said to him, “I can guarantee this truth: Today you will be with me in paradise.”
Jesus Dies on the Cross(D)
44 Around noon darkness came over the entire land and lasted until three in the afternoon. 45 The sun had stopped shining. The curtain in the temple was split in two.
46 Yeshua cried out in a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit.” After he said this, he died.
47 When an army officer saw what had happened, he praised God and said, “Certainly, this man was innocent!” 48 Crowds had gathered to see the sight. But when all of them saw what had happened, they cried and returned to the city. 49 All his friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance and watched everything.
Jesus Is Placed in a Tomb(E)
50 There was a good man who had God’s approval. His name was Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish council, 51 but he had not agreed with what they had done. He was from the Jewish city of Arimathea, and he was waiting for the kingdom of God.
52 He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Yeshua. 53 After he took it down from the cross, he wrapped it in linen. Then he laid the body in a tomb cut in rock, a tomb in which no one had ever been buried. 54 It was Friday, and the day of worship was just beginning.
55 The women who had come with Yeshua from Galilee followed closely behind Joseph. They observed the tomb and how his body was laid in it. 56 Then they went back to the city and prepared spices and perfumes. But on the day of worship they rested according to the commandment.

2 E cominciarono ad accusarlo, dicendo: «Abbiamo trovato quest'uomo che sovvertiva la nostra nazione, istigava a non pagare i tributi a *Cesare e diceva di essere lui il Cristo re». 3 Pilato lo interrogò, dicendo: «Sei tu il re dei Giudei?» E Gesú gli rispose: «Tu lo dici».
4 Pilato disse ai capi dei *sacerdoti e alla folla: «Non trovo nessuna colpa in quest'uomo». 5 Ma essi insistevano, dicendo: «Egli sobilla il popolo insegnando per tutta la *Giudea; ha cominciato dalla *Galilea ed è giunto fin qui».
Pilato manda Gesú da Erode
6 (B)Quando Pilato udí questo, domandò se quell'uomo fosse Galileo. 7 Saputo che egli era della giurisdizione di *Erode, lo mandò da Erode, che si trovava anch'egli a *Gerusalemme in quei giorni.
8 Quando vide Gesú, Erode se ne rallegrò molto, perché da lungo tempo desiderava vederlo, avendo sentito parlare di lui; e sperava di vedergli fare qualche miracolo[a]. 9 Gli rivolse molte domande, ma Gesú non gli rispose nulla. 10 Or i capi dei sacerdoti e gli *scribi stavano là, accusandolo con veemenza. 11 Erode, con i suoi soldati, dopo averlo vilipeso e schernito, lo vestí di un manto splendido, e lo rimandò da Pilato. 12 In quel giorno, Erode e Pilato divennero amici; prima infatti erano stati nemici.
Gesú o Barabba?
13 (C)Pilato, riuniti i capi dei sacerdoti, i magistrati e il popolo, disse loro: 14 «Avete fatto comparire davanti a me quest'uomo come sovversivo; ed ecco, dopo averlo esaminato in presenza vostra, non ho trovato in lui nessuna delle colpe di cui l'accusate; 15 e neppure Erode, poiché egli l'ha rimandato da noi; ecco egli non ha fatto nulla che sia degno di morte. 16 Perciò, dopo averlo castigato lo libererò».
17 [Ora egli aveva l'obbligo di liberare loro un carcerato in occasione della *festa; ] 18 ma essi gridarono tutti insieme: «Fa' morire costui e liberaci *Barabba!» 19 Barabba era stato messo in prigione a motivo di una sommossa avvenuta in città e di un omicidio. 20 E Pilato parlò loro di nuovo perché desiderava liberare Gesú; 21 ma essi gridavano: «Crocifiggilo, crocifiggilo!» 22 Per la terza volta egli disse loro: «Ma che male ha fatto? Io non ho trovato nulla in lui, che meriti la morte. Perciò, dopo averlo castigato, lo libererò». 23 Ma essi insistevano a gran voce, chiedendo che fosse crocifisso; e le loro grida finirono per avere il sopravvento. 24 Pilato decise che fosse fatto quello che domandavano: 25 liberò colui che era stato messo in prigione per sommossa e omicidio, e che essi avevano richiesto; ma abbandonò Gesú alla loro volontà.
In cammino verso il Golgota
26 (D)Mentre lo portavano via, presero un certo *Simone, di *Cirene, che veniva dalla campagna, e gli misero addosso la croce perché la portasse dietro a Gesú.
27 Lo seguiva una gran folla di popolo e di donne che facevano cordoglio e lamento per lui. 28 Ma Gesú, voltatosi verso di loro, disse: «Figlie di Gerusalemme, non piangete per me, ma piangete per voi stesse e per i vostri figli. 29 Perché, ecco, i giorni vengono nei quali si dirà: “Beate le sterili, i grembi che non hanno partorito e le mammelle che non hanno allattato”. 30 Allora cominceranno a dire ai monti: “Cadeteci addosso”; e ai colli: “Copriteci”[b]. 31 Perché se fanno questo al legno verde, che cosa sarà fatto al secco?»
32 Ora, altri due, malfattori, erano condotti per essere messi a morte insieme a lui.
La crocifissione di Gesú
33 (E)Quando furono giunti al luogo detto «il Teschio[c]», vi crocifissero lui e i malfattori, uno a destra e l'altro a sinistra.
34 [Gesú diceva: «Padre, perdona loro, perché non sanno quello che fanno».] Poi divisero le sue vesti, tirandole a sorte[d].
35 Il popolo stava a guardare. E anche i magistrati si beffavano di lui, dicendo: «Ha salvato altri, salvi sé stesso, se è il Cristo, l'Eletto di Dio!» 36 Pure i soldati lo schernivano, accostandosi, presentandogli dell'aceto e dicendo: 37 «Se tu sei il re dei Giudei, salva te stesso!»
38 Vi era anche questa iscrizione sopra il suo capo: QUESTO È IL RE DEI GIUDEI.
39 Uno dei malfattori appesi lo insultava, dicendo: «Non sei tu il Cristo? Salva te stesso e noi!» 40 Ma l'altro lo rimproverava, dicendo: «Non hai nemmeno timor di Dio, tu che ti trovi nel medesimo supplizio? 41 Per noi è giusto, perché riceviamo la pena che ci meritiamo per le nostre azioni; ma questi non ha fatto nulla di male». 42 E diceva: «Gesú, ricòrdati di me quando entrerai nel tuo regno!» 43 Gesú gli disse: «Io ti dico in verità, oggi tu sarai con me in *paradiso».
Morte di Gesú
44 (F)Era circa l'*ora sesta[e], e si fecero tenebre su tutto il paese fino all'ora nona[f]; 45 il sole si oscurò. La *cortina del *tempio si squarciò nel mezzo.
46 Gesú, gridando a gran voce, disse: «Padre, nelle tue mani rimetto lo spirito mio»[g]. Detto questo, spirò.
47 Il *centurione, veduto ciò che era accaduto, glorificava Dio dicendo: «Veramente, quest'uomo era giusto».
48 E tutta la folla che assisteva a questo spettacolo, vedute le cose che erano accadute, se ne tornava battendosi il petto. 49 Ma tutti i suoi conoscenti e le donne che lo avevano accompagnato dalla Galilea stavano a guardare queste cose da lontano.
Il seppellimento di Gesú
50 (G)C'era un uomo, di nome *Giuseppe, che era membro del Consiglio, uomo giusto e buono, 51 il quale non aveva acconsentito alla deliberazione e all'operato degli altri. Egli era di *Arimatea, città della Giudea, e aspettava il regno di Dio. 52 Si presentò a Pilato e chiese il corpo di Gesú. 53 E, trattolo giú dalla croce, lo avvolse in un lenzuolo e lo mise in una tomba scavata nella roccia, dove nessuno era ancora stato deposto. 54 Era il giorno della Preparazione, e stava per cominciare il sabato.
55 Le donne che erano venute con Gesú dalla Galilea, seguito Giuseppe, guardarono la tomba, e come vi era stato deposto il corpo di Gesú. 56 Poi, tornarono indietro e prepararono aromi e profumi. Durante il sabato si riposarono, secondo il comandamento.
