質疑耶穌的權柄
20 就在那些日子裡，有一天耶穌在聖殿裡教導民眾、傳福音的時候，祭司長們、經文士們和長老們一起上前來， 2 對他說：「請告訴我們：你憑什麼權柄做這些事？是誰給你這權柄的？」
3 耶穌回答他們，說：「我也要問你們一個問題，你們告訴我： 4 約翰的洗禮是來自天上，還是來自人間呢？」
5 他們就彼此商量，說：「如果我們說『是來自天上』，他就會問『你們為什麼不相信他呢？』 6 但如果說『是來自人間』，那麼民眾都會用石頭砸我們，因為他們深信約翰是先知。」
7 於是他們回答：「不知道是從哪裡來的。」
8 耶穌就對他們說：「我也不告訴你們我憑什麼權柄做這些事。」
葡萄園主的比喻
9 接著，耶穌開始對民眾講這個比喻：「有一個人栽種了一個葡萄園，把它租給一些農夫，然後就出外旅行，去了許久。 10 到了收穫的[a]季節，他就派了一個奴僕到那些農夫那裡去，好讓他們從葡萄園的果子中把當納的[b]交給他。但那些農夫打了他，叫他空手回去。 11 園主又派另一個奴僕去，可是他們把那個人也打了，並且侮辱他，叫他空手回去。 12 於是，他又派了第三個人去，他們又把這個人打傷，趕了出去。
13 「葡萄園的主人就說：『我該做什麼呢？我要派遣我的愛子，或許他們[c]會尊重他。』
14 「可是那些農夫看見他，就彼此討論說：『這是繼承人。[d]我們把他殺了，那繼業就成為我們的了。』 15 於是他們把他扔出葡萄園外，殺了。
「那麼，葡萄園的主人會怎麼對待他們呢？ 16 他會來除滅這些農夫，把葡萄園交給別人。」
大家聽了就說：「絕不可有這樣的事！」
17 耶穌注視著他們，說：「那麼，經上記的『工匠所棄絕的石頭，它已經成了房角的頭塊石頭』[e]這話是什麼意思呢？ 18 所有跌落在那石頭上的，就將被破碎；那石頭落在誰的身上，就會把誰砸得稀爛。」
19 經文士和祭司長們知道這個比喻是針對他們而說的，當時就想下手捉拿耶穌，可是又怕民眾。
神與凱撒
20 於是，他們密切注意，派了一些奸細裝做好人，要抓耶穌的話柄，好把他交在總督的管理和權柄之下。 21 那些奸細問耶穌，說：「老師，我們知道你所說所教導的都是對的，你也不顧人的情面，而是按真理教導神的道[f]。 22 請問：我們向凱撒納稅，可以不可以呢？」
23 耶穌看出他們的詭詐，就對他們說：[g] 24 「拿一個銀幣[h]給我看。這上面是誰的像和名號？」
他們說：「是凱撒的。」
25 耶穌對他們說：「因此，凱撒的歸給凱撒；神的歸給神。」
26 他們在民眾面前抓不到耶穌的話柄，又對他的答覆感到驚奇，就啞口無言了。
撒都該人與復活
27 撒都該人來到耶穌那裡，他們一向說沒有復活的事。他們問耶穌， 28 說：「老師，摩西為我們寫道：如果一個人的兄弟死了，留下妻子而沒有孩子，他就應該娶這婦人，為他兄弟留後裔。[i] 29 曾經有兄弟七人，第一個娶了妻子，沒有孩子就死了。 30 第二個、[j] 31 第三個也娶了她；七個人都是這樣，沒有留下兒女就死了。 32 後來這婦人也死了。 33 既然這七個人都娶過她為妻，那麼，在復活的時候，這婦人是誰的妻子呢？」
34 耶穌對他們說：「這世代的兒女又娶又嫁； 35 但那些算是配得上承受那世代，又配得上從死人中復活的人，既不娶也不嫁。 36 事實上，他們再也不會死，因為就與天使一樣；他們既然是復活的兒女，就是神的兒女了。 37 至於死人復活的事，摩西在『荊棘篇』上也指明了，正如稱主是『亞伯拉罕的神、以撒的神、雅各的神。』[k] 38 所以神不是死人的神，而是活人的神；在神，人都是活著的。」
39 有一些經文士應聲說：「老師，你說得好。」 40 從此他們再也不敢質問他什麼了。
有關基督的問題
41 耶穌對他們說：「人怎麼說基督是大衛的後裔呢？ 42 大衛自己在詩篇裡說：
『主對我主說：
你坐在我的右邊，
43 等我把你的敵人放在你的腳下做腳凳。』[l]
44 大衛既然稱基督為『主』，基督又怎麼會是大衛的後裔呢？」
要防備經文士
45 全體民眾正在聽的時候，耶穌對他的門徒說： 46 「你們要提防經文士。他們喜歡穿著長袍走來走去，喜愛街市上的致敬問候，又喜愛會堂裡的首位、宴席中的上座。 47 他們侵吞寡婦的家產，又假意做很長的禱告。這些人將受到更重的懲罰[m]。」

3 耶稣回答说：“我也问你们一个问题。你们告诉我， 4 约翰的洗礼是从天上来的还是从人来的？”
5 他们彼此议论说：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，祂一定会问，‘那你们为什么不相信他？’ 6 如果我们说‘是从人来的’，百姓会拿石头打死我们，因为他们相信约翰是先知。” 7 于是，他们回答说：“我们不知道约翰的洗礼是从哪里来的。”

利欲熏心的佃户
9 接着耶稣对众人讲了个比喻：“有人开垦了一个葡萄园，把园子租给几个佃户，就出远门了。 10 到了收获的季节，他差奴仆去葡萄园向佃户收取他应得的收成，但那些佃户却把奴仆揍了一顿，使他空手而归。 11 园主又派另一个奴仆去，那些佃户照样将他殴打并羞辱一番，使他空手而归。 12 园主又派第三个奴仆去，他们又把他打伤，抛在园外。
13 “园主说，‘我该怎样办呢？不如叫我所疼爱的儿子去吧。他们大概会尊敬他。’
14 “岂料那些佃户看见来人是园主的儿子，便彼此商量说，‘这个人是产业继承人，我们把他杀掉，这葡萄园就归我们了！’ 15 于是他们把园主的儿子拖到葡萄园外杀了。
“那么，园主会怎样处治他们呢？ 16 他必来杀掉这些佃户，把葡萄园转租给别人。”
众人听了就说：“但愿这种事永远不会发生！”
17 耶稣定睛看着他们，问道：“那么，圣经上说，
“‘工匠丢弃的石头已成了房角石’，
这句话是什么意思呢？ 18 凡跌在这石头上的人，将粉身碎骨；这石头落在谁身上，将把谁砸烂。”
纳税问题
19 律法教师和祭司长听出这比喻是针对他们说的，便想立刻下手捉拿耶稣，但又害怕百姓。 20 于是，他们密切地监视耶稣，又派遣密探假装好人，想从祂的话里找把柄抓祂去见总督。
21 那些密探问耶稣：“老师，我们知道你所讲所传的道都是正确的，也知道你不看人的情面，只按真理传上帝的道。 22 那么，我们向凯撒纳税对不对呢？”
23 耶稣看破他们的阴谋， 24 就叫他们拿一个银币来，问他们：“上面刻的是谁的像和名号？”他们说：“凯撒的。”
25 耶稣说：“属于凯撒的，要给凯撒；属于上帝的，要给上帝。”
26 耶稣的回答令他们惊奇，他们无法当众找到把柄，只好闭口不言。
论死人复活
27 撒督该人向来不相信有复活的事。有几个这一派的人来问耶稣： 28 “老师，按摩西为我们写的律例，如果有人娶妻后没有孩子就死了，他的兄弟应当娶嫂嫂，替哥哥传宗接代。 29 有弟兄七人，老大结了婚，没有孩子就死了。 30 二弟、 31 三弟、一直到七弟都相继娶了嫂嫂，都没有留下孩子就死了。 32 最后那个女人也死了。 33 那么，到复活的时候，她将是谁的妻子呢？因为七个人都娶过她。”
34 耶稣说：“今世的人才有嫁娶， 35 但那些配得将来的世界、从死里复活的人也不娶也不嫁， 36 就像天使一样永远不会死。他们既然从死里复活，就是上帝的儿女。 37 在记载有关燃烧的荆棘的篇章中，摩西也证实死人会复活，因为他称主是‘亚伯拉罕的上帝，以撒的上帝，雅各的上帝’。 38 上帝不是死人的上帝，而是活人的上帝。因为在祂那里的人都是活人。”
39 几位律法教师说：“老师答得好！” 40 此后，再没有人敢问耶稣问题了。

41 耶稣问他们：“人怎么说基督是大卫的后裔呢？ 42 大卫曾在诗篇里说，

44 既然大卫称基督为主，基督又怎么会是大卫的后裔呢？”
45 大家正在细听，耶稣对门徒说： 46 “你们要提防律法教师。他们爱穿着长袍招摇过市，喜欢人们在大街上问候他们，又喜欢会堂里的上座和宴席中的首位。 47 他们侵吞寡妇的财产，还假意做冗长的祷告。这种人必受到更严厉的惩罚！”

20 And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
2 And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
3 And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
6 But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
8 And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
9 Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
11 And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12 And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32 Last of all the woman died also.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
40 And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
45 Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
