骑驴进耶路撒冷
28 耶稣说完这个比喻，就走在众人前面上耶路撒冷去。
29 快到橄榄山附近的伯法其和伯大尼时，耶稣派了两个门徒，说： 30 “你们去前面的村庄，进村的时候，必看见一头从来没有人骑过的驴驹拴在那里，你们把它解开牵来。 31 若有人问你们为什么把它解开，就说，‘主要用它。’”
32 两个门徒出去后，所遇见的情形正如耶稣所说的。 33 当他们解开驴驹时，主人果然问他们：“你们为什么解开驴驹？”
34 他们说：“主要用它。”
35 他们牵着驴驹回去见耶稣，又把自己的外衣搭在驴背上，扶耶稣上驴。
36 耶稣骑着驴前行，众人用外衣为祂铺路。 37 祂正走下橄榄山，将近耶路撒冷的时候，众门徒因为以往所见的神迹奇事，就欢腾起来，高声赞美上帝：
38 “奉主名来的王当受称颂！
天上有平安，至高处有荣耀！”
39 百姓中有几个法利赛人对耶稣说：“老师，你要责备你的门徒。”
40 耶稣说：“我告诉你们，如果他们闭口不言，这些石头都要呼喊了！”
为耶路撒冷哀哭
41 耶稣快到耶路撒冷时，看见那城就哀哭， 42 说：“今天你若知道那能带给你平安的事就好了！可惜这事现在是隐藏的，你看不见！ 43 因为有一天敌人要在你周围筑起壁垒把你团团围住，四面攻击你。 44 他们要把你夷为平地，毁灭你城墙里的儿女，不会留下两块叠在一起的石头，因为你没有认识到上帝眷顾你的时刻。”
耶稣洁净圣殿
45 耶稣进入圣殿赶走里面做买卖的人， 46 并对他们说：“圣经上说，‘我的殿要成为祷告的殿’，你们竟把它变成了贼窝。”
47 祂天天在圣殿教导人，祭司长、律法教师和百姓的官长都想杀祂， 48 只是无从下手，因为百姓都十分喜爱听祂讲道。
质问耶稣的权柄
20 有一天，耶稣正在圣殿里教导人、传讲福音，祭司长、律法教师和长老上前， 2 质问祂：“告诉我们，你凭什么权柄做这些事？谁授权给你了？”
3 耶稣回答说：“我也问你们一个问题。你们告诉我， 4 约翰的洗礼是从天上来的还是从人来的？”
5 他们彼此议论说：“如果我们说‘是从天上来的’，祂一定会问，‘那你们为什么不相信他？’ 6 如果我们说‘是从人来的’，百姓会拿石头打死我们，因为他们相信约翰是先知。” 7 于是，他们回答说：“我们不知道约翰的洗礼是从哪里来的。”
8 耶稣说：“我也不告诉你们我凭什么权柄做这些事。”
利欲熏心的佃户
9 接着耶稣对众人讲了个比喻：“有人开垦了一个葡萄园，把园子租给几个佃户，就出远门了。 10 到了收获的季节，他差奴仆去葡萄园向佃户收取他应得的收成，但那些佃户却把奴仆揍了一顿，使他空手而归。 11 园主又派另一个奴仆去，那些佃户照样将他殴打并羞辱一番，使他空手而归。 12 园主又派第三个奴仆去，他们又把他打伤，抛在园外。
13 “园主说，‘我该怎样办呢？不如叫我所疼爱的儿子去吧。他们大概会尊敬他。’
14 “岂料那些佃户看见来人是园主的儿子，便彼此商量说，‘这个人是产业继承人，我们把他杀掉，这葡萄园就归我们了！’ 15 于是他们把园主的儿子拖到葡萄园外杀了。
“那么，园主会怎样处治他们呢？ 16 他必来杀掉这些佃户，把葡萄园转租给别人。”
众人听了就说：“但愿这种事永远不会发生！”
17 耶稣定睛看着他们，问道：“那么，圣经上说，
“‘工匠丢弃的石头已成了房角石’，
这句话是什么意思呢？ 18 凡跌在这石头上的人，将粉身碎骨；这石头落在谁身上，将把谁砸烂。”
纳税问题
19 律法教师和祭司长听出这比喻是针对他们说的，便想立刻下手捉拿耶稣，但又害怕百姓。 20 于是，他们密切地监视耶稣，又派遣密探假装好人，想从祂的话里找把柄抓祂去见总督。
21 那些密探问耶稣：“老师，我们知道你所讲所传的道都是正确的，也知道你不看人的情面，只按真理传上帝的道。 22 那么，我们向凯撒纳税对不对呢？”
23 耶稣看破他们的阴谋， 24 就叫他们拿一个银币来，问他们：“上面刻的是谁的像和名号？”他们说：“凯撒的。”
25 耶稣说：“属于凯撒的，要给凯撒；属于上帝的，要给上帝。”
26 耶稣的回答令他们惊奇，他们无法当众找到把柄，只好闭口不言。
论死人复活
27 撒督该人向来不相信有复活的事。有几个这一派的人来问耶稣： 28 “老师，按摩西为我们写的律例，如果有人娶妻后没有孩子就死了，他的兄弟应当娶嫂嫂，替哥哥传宗接代。 29 有弟兄七人，老大结了婚，没有孩子就死了。 30 二弟、 31 三弟、一直到七弟都相继娶了嫂嫂，都没有留下孩子就死了。 32 最后那个女人也死了。 33 那么，到复活的时候，她将是谁的妻子呢？因为七个人都娶过她。”
34 耶稣说：“今世的人才有嫁娶， 35 但那些配得将来的世界、从死里复活的人也不娶也不嫁， 36 就像天使一样永远不会死。他们既然从死里复活，就是上帝的儿女。 37 在记载有关燃烧的荆棘的篇章中，摩西也证实死人会复活，因为他称主是‘亚伯拉罕的上帝，以撒的上帝，雅各的上帝’。 38 上帝不是死人的上帝，而是活人的上帝。因为在祂那里的人都是活人。”
39 几位律法教师说：“老师答得好！” 40 此后，再没有人敢问耶稣问题了。
论基督
41 耶稣问他们：“人怎么说基督是大卫的后裔呢？ 42 大卫曾在诗篇里说，
“‘主对我主说，
你坐在我的右边，
43 等我使你的仇敌成为你的脚凳。’
44 既然大卫称基督为主，基督又怎么会是大卫的后裔呢？”
45 大家正在细听，耶稣对门徒说： 46 “你们要提防律法教师。他们爱穿着长袍招摇过市，喜欢人们在大街上问候他们，又喜欢会堂里的上座和宴席中的首位。 47 他们侵吞寡妇的财产，还假意做冗长的祷告。这种人必受到更严厉的惩罚！”
穷寡妇的奉献
21 耶稣抬头观看，见有钱人正把捐项投进奉献箱里， 2 又见一个穷寡妇投进两个小铜钱， 3 就说：“我实在告诉你们，这位穷寡妇奉献的比其他人都多。 4 因为他们不过奉献了自己剩余的，但这穷寡妇却奉献了她赖以为生的一切。”
预言将来的事
5 有些人正在谈论由精美的石头和珍贵的供物所装饰的圣殿， 6 耶稣说：“你们现在所见到的，将来有一天要被完全拆毁，找不到两块叠在一起的石头。”
7 他们问：“老师，这些事什么时候会发生呢？发生的时候有什么预兆呢？”
8 耶稣回答说：“你们要小心提防，不要被迷惑。因为将来会有许多人冒我的名来，说，‘我就是基督’，或说，‘时候到了’，你们切勿跟从他们。 9 你们听见打仗和叛乱的事，不要害怕，因为这些事一定会先发生，但末日将不会立刻来临。”
10 耶稣接着说：“民族将与民族互斗，国家将与国家相争， 11 将有大地震，各处将有饥荒和瘟疫，天上也将出现恐怖的景象和大异兆。
12 “这些事情出现之前，人们要拘捕你们，迫害你们，把你们押到会堂和监牢，你们将为了我的名而被君王和官长审问。 13 那时，正是你们为我做见证的好机会。 14 你们要立定心志，不要为怎样申辩而忧虑， 15 因为我会赐给你们口才、智慧，使你们的仇敌全无反驳的余地。 16 你们将被父母、弟兄、亲戚、朋友出卖，你们有些人会被他们害死。 17 你们将为我的名而被众人憎恨， 18 但你们连一根头发也不会失落。 19 你们只要坚忍到底，必能保全自己的灵魂。
20 “你们看见耶路撒冷被重兵包围时，就知道它被毁灭的日子快到了。 21 那时，住在犹太地区的人要赶快逃到山上去，住在城里的人要跑到城外，住在乡村的人不要进城， 22 因为那是报应的日子，要应验圣经的全部记载。 23 那时，孕妇和哺育婴儿的母亲们可就遭殃了！因为将有大灾难降在这地方，烈怒要临到这些人民。 24 他们要死在刀剑之下，要被掳到外国去。耶路撒冷要被外族人蹂躏，直到外族人肆虐的日期满了为止。
25 “日月星辰必显出异兆，怒海汹涌、波涛翻腾，令各国惊恐不安。 26 天体必震动，人类想到世界要面临的事都吓得魂不附体。 27 那时，他们要看见人子驾着云、带着能力和极大的荣耀降临。 28 当这些事发生时，你们要昂首挺胸，因为你们蒙救赎的日子近了。”
警醒祷告
29 耶稣又讲了一个比喻：“看看无花果树和其他树木吧。 30 当你们看见树木发芽长叶时，就知道夏天近了。 31 同样，当你们看见这些事情发生时，就知道上帝的国近了。
32 “我实在告诉你们，这个世代还没有过去，这一切都要发生。 33 天地都要消逝，但我的话永不消逝。
34 “你们要小心，不要被宴乐、醉酒和人生的挂虑所拖累，免得那日子像网罗般突然临到你们， 35 因为那日子将要这样临到世上每一个人。 36 你们要时刻警醒，常常祷告，使你们能逃过这一切将要发生的灾难，并能站在人子面前。”
37 耶稣每天在圣殿里讲道，晚上则到城外的橄榄山上过夜。 38 百姓一早都赶去圣殿听祂的教导。
犹大出卖耶稣
22 除酵节，又名逾越节，快到了。 2 祭司长和律法教师因为害怕百姓，便密谋如何杀害耶稣。 3 这时，撒旦进入加略人犹大的心，这人原是十二使徒之一。 4 他去见祭司长和圣殿护卫长，商议如何把耶稣出卖给他们， 5 他们喜出望外，答应给犹大一笔酬金。 6 犹大同意了，便伺机找百姓不在的场合将耶稣交给他们。
最后的晚餐
7 除酵节到了，那天要宰杀逾越羊羔。 8 耶稣差派彼得和约翰出去，说：“你们为我们准备逾越节吃的晚餐。”
9 他们问：“你要我们到哪里去预备呢？”
10 耶稣回答说：“你们进城的时候，一个男子会扛着一瓶水迎面走来，你们要跟着他，他进哪所房子，你们也进去， 11 对房子的主人说，‘老师问你客房在哪里，祂要和门徒在里面吃逾越节的晚餐。’ 12 那主人会带你们到楼上一间布置整齐的大房间，你们就在那里预备吧。”
13 他们进了城，所遇见的果然和耶稣所说的一样。他们便在那里预备逾越节的晚餐。
设立圣餐
14 晚餐时，耶稣和使徒们一同坐席。 15 耶稣对他们说：“我一直盼望在受难之前和你们同吃这个逾越节的宴席。 16 我告诉你们，在这宴席成就在上帝的国度之前，我不会再吃这宴席了。”
17 祂接过杯来，祝谢后，说：“你们拿去分着喝吧。 18 我告诉你们，在上帝的国降临之前，我不会再喝这葡萄酒了。”
19 接着，祂拿起饼来，祝谢后，掰开递给他们，说：“这是我为你们牺牲的身体，你们今后也要这样做，以纪念我。”
20 饭后，祂又举起杯来，说：“这杯是用我的血立的新约，这血是为你们流的。
21 “但是看啊，那出卖我之人的手和我的手都在桌子上。 22 按照所定的，人子要死去，但那出卖人子的人有祸了！” 23 他们开始彼此追问谁会出卖耶稣。
谁最伟大
24 门徒又开始争论他们当中谁最伟大。 25 耶稣对他们说：“外族人有君王统治他们，那些统治者被称为恩主， 26 但你们不可这样。相反，你们中间地位最高的，要像最卑微的；做首领的，要像服侍人的。 27 坐着吃饭的和伺候的哪个地位高呢？难道不是坐着的那个吗？然而，我在你们当中是服侍人的。
28 “在我患难之时，你们一直在我身边， 29 所以，我父怎样将国赐给我，我也照样将国赐给你们， 30 使你们在我的国中和我一同坐席，并且坐在宝座上审判以色列的十二个支派。”
预言彼得不认主
31 耶稣说：“西门！西门！撒旦已经要求像筛麦子一样筛你们， 32 但我已经为你祷告了，叫你不至于失去信心。你回头以后，要让你的弟兄刚强。”
33 西门·彼得说：“主啊，我愿意和你一起坐牢，一起受死！”
34 耶稣说：“彼得，我告诉你，明早鸡叫之前，你会三次不认我。”
35 耶稣又问门徒：“我派你们出去的时候，无钱袋、背包和鞋子，你们有任何缺乏吗？”
他们答道：“没有。”
36 耶稣说：“但现在如果有钱袋或背包，都要带着；如果没有刀剑，要卖掉衣服买刀剑。 37 我告诉你们，‘祂要被列在罪犯中’这句经文必在我身上应验，因为圣经上有关我的事情快要实现了。”
38 他们说：“主啊，请看，这里有两把刀。”耶稣说：“够了。”
橄榄山上的祷告
39 耶稣离开，像往常一样前往橄榄山，门徒也跟去了。 40 到了山上，祂对门徒说：“你们要祷告，以免陷入诱惑！”
41 然后，祂独自走到离门徒约有扔一块石头那么远的地方跪下祷告： 42 “父啊，若你愿意，求你撤去此杯。然而，愿你的旨意成就，而非我的意愿。” 43 有一位从天上来的天使向祂显现，给祂加添力量。
44 祂心中极其悲痛，祷告更恳切，汗珠如血滴在地上。
45 祂祷告完后，便起身回到门徒那里，看见他们因忧愁而疲惫地睡着了， 46 就说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？要起来祷告，以免陷入诱惑！”
耶稣被捕
47 耶稣还在说话的时候，十二使徒中的犹大已带着一群人赶到，他上前亲吻耶稣。 48 耶稣对他说：“犹大，你用亲吻的暗号来出卖人子吗？”
49 跟随耶稣的人见他们来势汹汹，就说：“主啊，我们该拔刀抵抗吗？” 50 其中一人拔刀朝大祭司的奴仆砍过去，削掉了他的右耳。
51 耶稣却说：“住手！够了！”于是祂摸那奴仆的耳朵，治好了他， 52 然后对前来抓祂的祭司长、圣殿护卫长和长老说：“你们像对付强盗一样拿着刀棍来抓我吗？ 53 我天天和你们一起在圣殿里，你们没有抓我。但现在正是黑暗当权、你们得势的时候了！”
彼得不认主
54 他们把耶稣押到大祭司的府第。彼得远远地跟在后面。
55 他们在庭院当中生起了火，围坐取暖，彼得也坐在他们中间。 56 有个婢女看见彼得坐在火堆边，打量他一番后，说：“这人是与耶稣一伙的！”
57 彼得却否认说：“你这女子，我不认识祂。”
58 过了一会儿，又有个人看见了彼得，就说：“你也是跟他们一伙的！”
彼得说：“你这人，我不是！”
59 大约一小时之后，又有人指着彼得肯定地说：“这人确实是和耶稣一伙的，因为他也是加利利人。”
60 彼得说：“你这人，我不知道你在说什么！”话才出口，鸡就叫了。
61 这时，主转过头来望着彼得，彼得想起主对他说的话：“明早鸡叫之前，你会三次不认我。” 62 他就到外面，痛哭起来。
在公会受审
63 看守耶稣的人嘲弄祂，殴打祂， 64 蒙住祂的眼睛，对祂说：“说预言吧！是谁在打你？” 65 还说了许多侮辱祂的话。
66 天亮后，民间的长老、祭司长和律法教师聚在一起，把耶稣押到他们的公会， 67 对祂说：“如果你是基督，就告诉我们。”
耶稣说：“即使我告诉你们，你们也不会相信。 68 如果我问你们，你们也不会回答。 69 但从今以后，人子要坐在全能上帝的右边。”
70 他们都问：“那么，你是上帝的儿子吗？”耶稣回答说：“你们说我是。”
71 他们说：“我们还需要什么见证呢？我们已经听见祂自己说的了。”
在彼拉多面前受审
23 于是，众人动身把耶稣押到彼拉多那里， 2 指控祂说：“这人蛊惑民心，禁止百姓向凯撒纳税，又说自己是基督，是君王。”
3 彼拉多问耶稣：“你是犹太人的王吗？”
耶稣回答说：“如你所言。”
4 彼拉多转过身来，对祭司长和百姓宣布：“我查不出这人有什么罪。” 5 但他们坚持说：“这个人从加利利开始一直到这里，在犹太地区四处传道，煽动民心。”
6 彼拉多听后，问道：“祂是加利利人吗？” 7 他得知耶稣来自分封王希律的辖区后，便把耶稣送交希律，希律刚巧在耶路撒冷。
在希律面前受辱
8 希律见到耶稣，十分高兴，因为他听过耶稣的事，早就想见祂，希望看祂行神迹。 9 他问了耶稣许多问题，耶稣却一言不发。 10 祭司长和律法教师站在那里极力地指控耶稣。
11 希律和他的卫兵嘲弄侮辱耶稣，给祂穿上华丽的袍子，把祂押回彼拉多那里。 12 希律和彼拉多向来互相敌视，但在那一天竟化敌为友。
无辜被判死罪
13 彼拉多召来祭司长、官长和百姓， 14 对他们说：“你们带这个人来，指控祂煽动百姓造反，我当着你们的面审问了祂，却查不出祂有任何你们指控祂的罪。 15 希律也查不出祂有什么罪，所以把祂送回来了。可见，这人并没有犯什么该死的罪。 16 因此，我要惩戒祂，然后释放祂。” 17 每逢逾越节，总督总是按惯例给他们释放一个囚犯。[a]
18 这时，众人齐声呼喊：“杀掉祂！释放巴拉巴！” 19 巴拉巴是因在城里叛乱杀人而被下在监里的。
20 彼拉多想释放耶稣，便劝解他们。 21 但他们一直喊：“把祂钉在十字架上！把祂钉在十字架上！”
22 彼拉多第三次问百姓：“为什么？祂犯了什么罪？我找不出该处死祂的罪证。因此，我要惩戒祂，然后释放祂。”
23 众人却继续大声喊叫，执意要求把耶稣钉在十字架上。最后，他们的声势占了上风。 24 于是，彼拉多依照他们的要求， 25 释放了叛乱杀人的囚犯巴拉巴，并把耶稣交给他们任意处置。
钉十字架
26 他们带耶稣出去的时候，抓住从乡下来的古利奈人西门，让他背着十字架跟在耶稣后面。
27 有一大群人跟在耶稣后面，其中有不少妇女为耶稣伤心痛哭。 28 耶稣转过身来，对她们说：“耶路撒冷的女儿啊，不要为我哭，为你们自己和你们的儿女哭吧！ 29 因为日子快到了，人们将说，‘不曾生育、不曾怀孕、不曾哺乳的女子有福了！’ 30 到时候，人们会向大山说，‘倒在我们身上吧！’又会对小山说，‘遮盖我们吧！’ 31 树木青葱的时候，他们尚且做这些事，树木枯干的时候，又会怎样呢？[b]”
32 当时有两个罪犯和耶稣一同被押去受刑。 33 他们到了一个叫“髑髅”的地方，便把耶稣钉在十字架上，又将两个罪犯分别钉在祂左右两边。
34 耶稣祷告说：“父啊，赦免他们！因为他们不知道自己在做什么。”士兵抽签分了耶稣的衣裳。
35 百姓站着观看，官长嘲笑耶稣说：“祂救了别人，如果祂是上帝所选立的基督，让祂救自己吧！”
36 士兵们也戏弄祂，拿了些酸酒上前给祂喝， 37 又说：“如果你是犹太人的王，救救自己呀！”
38 耶稣上方有一块牌子，上面写着：“这是犹太人的王”。
39 跟耶稣同钉十字架的一个罪犯也讥笑耶稣，说：“你不是基督吗？救你自己和我们呀！”
40 另一个罪犯却责备他说：“你同样是受刑的，难道不怕上帝吗？ 41 我们是罪有应得，但这个人没有犯过罪。” 42 他随即恳求耶稣：“耶稣啊，当你来执掌王权的时候，请你记得我。”
43 耶稣对他说：“我实在告诉你，今天你要和我一起在乐园里了。”
耶稣之死
44 那时大约是正午，黑暗笼罩着整个大地，一直到下午三点， 45 太阳黯然无光。忽然挂在圣殿里的幔子从中间裂成两半。 46 耶稣大声喊着说：“父啊，我将我的灵魂交在你手中。”说完，就断气了。
47 百夫长见此情形，便赞美上帝，说：“这人的确是个义人。”
48 围观的人见状，无不捶胸顿足黯然离去。 49 耶稣熟识的人和从加利利跟着祂来的妇女们都站在远处观看。
耶稣的安葬
50 有一位名叫约瑟的公会议员心地善良、为人正直， 51 住在犹太地区的亚利马太城，一直在等候上帝国的降临。他并不苟同公会的决定。 52 他去求见彼拉多，要求领取耶稣的遗体。 53 他把耶稣的遗体从十字架上取下来，用细麻布裹好，然后安放在一个从岩壁上凿出的新墓穴里。 54 当天是预备日，安息日快到了。
55 和耶稣一起从加利利来的妇女跟在约瑟后面，看到了耶稣的坟墓，并且看到祂的遗体被安放好之后， 56 便回家去预备香料和膏油。安息日到了，她们按律法的规定休息了一天。
耶稣死里复活
24 周日黎明时分，几位妇女带着预备好的香料来到坟前， 2 发现墓口的大石头已经滚到旁边， 3 便进去，却没有看见主耶稣的遗体。 4 正在猜疑之间，突然有两个衣服发光的人站在旁边， 5 她们吓得俯伏在地。那两个人对她们说：“你们为什么在死人中找活人呢？ 6 祂不在这里，已经复活了！记住祂在加利利对你们说的话， 7 ‘人子必须被交在罪人的手中，被钉在十字架上，在第三天复活。’”
8 她们想起耶稣的话来， 9 便离开墓地回去把事情的经过告诉十一个使徒和其他人。 10 这些妇女就是抹大拉的玛丽亚、约亚娜、雅各的母亲玛丽亚及其他人。
11 大家听了都不相信，认为是无稽之谈。 12 彼得却起身跑到墓地，屈身往墓里张望，只见细麻布在那里，他便离开了，对发生的事大惑不解。
耶稣的显现
13 同一天，有两个门徒前往离耶路撒冷十一公里的以马忤斯村， 14 一路谈论着最近发生的一切事。 15 正谈论的时候，耶稣走过来和他们同行。 16 可是，他们认不出耶稣。
17 耶稣问他们：“你们一路上在谈论什么？”
他们停下脚步，满面愁容，

29 And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
30 Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.
31 And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.
32 And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.
33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.
35 And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
36 And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
37 And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.
39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.
40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.
41 And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,
42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
44 And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.
45 And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;
46 Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.
47 And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,
48 And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
20 And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,
2 And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?
3 And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?
5 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?
6 But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.
7 And they answered, that they could not tell whence it was.
8 And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
9 Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.
10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.
11 And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12 And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
13 Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
16 He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
17 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
19 And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.
20 And they watched him, and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.
21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?
23 But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?
24 Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.
25 And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.
27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,
28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.
30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.
31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.
32 Last of all the woman died also.
33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.
34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:
35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:
36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.
39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.
40 And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.
41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?
42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
45 Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,
46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
21 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.
2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.
3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:
4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.
5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?
8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them.
9 But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by.
10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:
11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake.
13 And it shall turn to you for a testimony.
14 Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer:
15 For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.
16 And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death.
17 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake.
18 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.
19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.
21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.
22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.
23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.
24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
26 Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees;
30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand.
31 So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
32 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled.
33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
37 And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives.
38 And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him.
22 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.
2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.
4 And he went his way, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him unto them.
5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.
6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him unto them in the absence of the multitude.
7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.
8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat.
9 And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
10 And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in.
11 And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
12 And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
13 And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table.
22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed!
23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40 And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
47 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him.
48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
49 When they which were about him saw what would follow, they said unto him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
54 Then took they him, and led him, and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off.
55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.
56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.
57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.
58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.
59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.
60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him.
64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying,
67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe:
68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.
69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.
71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
23 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.
4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.
5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.
6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.
7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.
13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
14 Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and release him.
17 (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:
19 (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.
22 And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.
23 And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.
24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.
28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
32 And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.
36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
37 And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself.
38 And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, This Is The King Of The Jews.
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.
44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.
45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.
47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.
49 And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.
50 And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:
51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
24 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,
7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
8 And they remembered his words,
9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.
10 It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.
11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.
12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
13 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.
14 And they talked together of all these things which had happened.
15 And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.
16 But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.
17 And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?
