饒恕、信心、服事等教訓(A)

17 耶穌又對門徒說:“使人犯罪的事是免不了的,但那使人犯罪的人有禍了! 就算拿一塊大磨石拴在他的頸項上,把他沉在深海裡,比他使這小子中的一個犯罪還好。 你們應當謹慎。如果你弟兄得罪你,就勸戒他;他若懊悔,就饒恕他。 如果他一天七次得罪你,又七次回轉,對你說:‘我懊悔了!’你總要饒恕他。”

使徒對主說:“請你加添我們的信心。” 主說:“如果你們有信心像一粒芥菜種,就是對這棵桑樹說:‘拔起根來,栽到海裡去!’它也必聽從你們。

“你們中間誰有僕人去耕地或是放羊,從田裡回來,你就對他說:‘快過來坐下吃飯’; 而不對他說:‘給我預備晚餐,束起腰來服事我,等我吃喝完了,你才吃喝’呢? 僕人作了所吩咐的事,主人還謝謝他嗎? 10 你們也是這樣,作完一切吩咐你們的事,應該說:‘我們是無用的僕人,我們只作了應分作的。’”

治好十個痲風病人

11 耶穌往耶路撒冷去,經過撒瑪利亞和加利利的邊境。 12 他走進一個村莊,有十個痲風病人迎面而來,遠遠地站著, 13 大聲說:“主耶穌啊,可憐我們吧!” 14 他看見了,就對他們說:“你們去給祭司檢查吧。”他們去的時候就潔淨了。 15 內中有一個人見自己已經好了,就回來大聲頌讚 神, 16 在耶穌腳前把臉伏在地上感謝他。他是一個撒瑪利亞人。 17 耶穌說:“潔淨了的不是有十個人嗎?那九個在哪裡? 18 除了這外族人,再沒有一個回來頌讚 神嗎?” 19 耶穌就對他說:“起來,走吧,你的信使你痊愈了。”

 神的國降臨的情形(B)

20 法利賽人問耶穌:“ 神的國甚麼時候來到呢?”他回答:“ 神的國來到,是眼睛看不見的。 21 人不能說:‘看哪!在這裡’,或說:‘在那裡’;因為 神的國就在你們裡面。” 22 他又對門徒說:“日子將到,你們渴望看見人子的一個日子,卻見不到。 23 有人會對你們說:‘看哪,在那裡;看哪,在這裡!’你們不要出去,也不要追隨他們。 24 電光怎樣從天這邊一閃,直照到天那邊,人子在他的日子也是這樣。 25 但他必須先受許多苦,被這個世代棄絕。 26 挪亞的時代怎樣,人子的時代也是怎樣。 27 當時人們吃喝嫁娶,直到挪亞進入方舟的那一天,洪水來了,把他們全都滅掉。 28 在羅得的時代也是這樣,人們吃喝買賣,耕種建造, 29 直到羅得離開所多瑪的那一天,火與硫磺從天上降下來,把他們全都滅掉。 30 人子顯現的日子也是這樣。 31 當那日,人在房頂上,器具在屋裡,不要下來拿;在田裡的,照樣不要回家。 32 應當記著羅得的妻子的教訓。 33 凡是想保全生命的,必喪掉生命;凡是犧牲生命的,卻必保全生命。 34 我告訴你們,當那夜,兩個人在一張床上,一個被接去,一個被撇下。 35 兩個女人一起推磨,一個被接去,一個被撇下。”(有些抄本有第36節:“兩個人在田裡,一個被接去,一個撇下來。”) 37 門徒問耶穌:“主啊,這些事會在哪裡發生呢?”主說:“屍首在哪裡,鷹也會聚集在哪裡。”

Chapter 17

Temptations to Sin. (A)He said to his disciples, “Things that cause sin will inevitably occur, but woe to the person through whom they occur. It would be better for him if a millstone were put around his neck and he be thrown into the sea than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. Be on your guard![a] If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.(B) And if he wrongs you seven times in one day and returns to you seven times saying, ‘I am sorry,’ you should forgive him.”(C)

Saying of Faith. And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” The Lord replied, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you would say to [this] mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.(D)

Attitude of a Servant.[b] “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? 10 So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’”

The Cleansing of Ten Lepers.[c] 11 As he continued his journey to Jerusalem,(E) he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.[d] 12 As he was entering a village, ten lepers met [him]. They stood at a distance from him 13 and raised their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!”(F) 14 And when he saw them, he said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.”[e] As they were going they were cleansed.(G) 15 And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; 16 and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. He was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? 18 Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?” 19 Then he said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.”(H)

The Coming of the Kingdom of God. 20 [f]Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he said in reply, “The coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed,(I) 21 [g]and no one will announce, ‘Look, here it is,’ or, ‘There it is.’(J) For behold, the kingdom of God is among you.”

The Day of the Son of Man. 22 Then he said to his disciples, “The days will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. 23 There will be those who will say to you, ‘Look, there he is,’ [or] ‘Look, here he is.’ Do not go off, do not run in pursuit.(K) 24 For just as lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be [in his day].(L) 25 But first he must suffer greatly and be rejected by this generation.(M) 26 As it was in the days of Noah,(N) so it will be in the days of the Son of Man; 27 they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage up to the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 (O)Similarly, as it was in the days of Lot: they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting, building; 29 on the day when Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained from the sky to destroy them all. 30 So it will be on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31 (P)On that day, a person who is on the housetop and whose belongings are in the house must not go down to get them, and likewise a person in the field must not return to what was left behind.(Q) 32 Remember the wife of Lot. 33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.(R) 34 I tell you, on that night there will be two people in one bed; one will be taken, the other left. 35 (S)And there will be two women grinding meal together; one will be taken, the other left.” [36 ][h] 37 They said to him in reply, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the body is, there also the vultures will gather.”(T)

  1. 17:3 Be on your guard: the translation takes Lk 17:3a as the conclusion to the saying on scandal in Lk 17:1–2. It is not impossible that it should be taken as the beginning of the saying on forgiveness in Lk 17:3b–4.
  2. 17:7–10 These sayings of Jesus, peculiar to Luke, which continue his response to the apostles’ request to increase their faith (Lk 17:5–6), remind them that Christian disciples can make no claim on God’s graciousness; in fulfilling the exacting demands of discipleship, they are only doing their duty.
  3. 17:11–19 This incident recounting the thankfulness of the cleansed Samaritan leper is narrated only in Luke’s gospel and provides an instance of Jesus holding up a non-Jew (Lk 17:18) as an example to his Jewish contemporaries (cf. Lk 10:33 where a similar purpose is achieved in the story of the good Samaritan). Moreover, it is the faith in Jesus manifested by the foreigner that has brought him salvation (Lk 17:19; cf. the similar relationship between faith and salvation in Lk 7:50; 8:48, 50).

  6. 17:20–37 To the question of the Pharisees about the time of the coming of God’s kingdom, Jesus replies that the kingdom is among you (Lk 17:20–21). The emphasis has thus been shifted from an imminent observable coming of the kingdom to something that is already present in Jesus’ preaching and healing ministry. Luke has also appended further traditional sayings of Jesus about the unpredictable suddenness of the day of the Son of Man, and assures his readers that in spite of the delay of that day (Lk 12:45), it will bring judgment unexpectedly on those who do not continue to be vigilant.
  7. 17:21 Among you: the Greek preposition translated as among can also be translated as “within.” In the light of other statements in Luke’s gospel about the presence of the kingdom (see Lk 10:9, 11; 11:20) “among” is to be preferred.
  8. 17:36 The inclusion of Lk 17:36, “There will be two men in the field; one will be taken, the other left behind,” in some Western manuscripts appears to be a scribal assimilation to Mt 24:40.
