14 安息日，耶稣到一个法利赛人的首领家里去吃饭，他们就窥探他。 2 在他面前有一个患水臌的人。 3 耶稣对律法师和法利赛人说：“安息日治病可以不可以？” 4 他们却不言语。耶稣就治好那人，叫他走了。 5 便对他们说：“你们中间谁有驴或有牛在安息日掉在井里，不立时拉它上来呢？” 6 他们不能对答这话。
教训为客的
7 耶稣见所请的客拣择首位，就用比喻对他们说： 8 “你被人请去赴婚姻的筵席，不要坐在首位上，恐怕有比你尊贵的客被他请来， 9 那请你们的人前来对你说：‘让座给这一位吧！’你就羞羞惭惭地退到末位上去了。 10 你被请的时候，就去坐在末位上，好叫那请你的人来对你说：‘朋友，请上坐！’那时，你在同席的人面前就有光彩了。 11 因为凡自高的，必降为卑；自卑的，必升为高。”
教训为主的
12 耶稣又对请他的人说：“你摆设午饭或晚饭，不要请你的朋友、弟兄、亲属和富足的邻舍，恐怕他们也请你，你就得了报答。 13 你摆设筵席，倒要请那贫穷的、残废的、瘸腿的、瞎眼的，你就有福了！ 14 因为他们没有什么可报答你。到义人复活的时候，你要得着报答。”
藐视救恩
15 同席的有一人听见这话，就对耶稣说：“在神国里吃饭的有福了！” 16 耶稣对他说：“有一人摆设大筵席，请了许多客。 17 到了坐席的时候，打发仆人去对所请的人说：‘请来吧，样样都齐备了。’ 18 众人一口同音地推辞。头一个说：‘我买了一块地，必须去看看。请你准我辞了。’ 19 又有一个说：‘我买了五对牛，要去试一试。请你准我辞了。’ 20 又有一个说：‘我才娶了妻，所以不能去。’ 21 那仆人回来，把这事都告诉了主人。家主就动怒，对仆人说：‘快出去到城里大街小巷，领那贫穷的、残废的、瞎眼的、瘸腿的来。’ 22 仆人说：‘主啊，你所吩咐的已经办了，还有空座。’ 23 主人对仆人说：‘你出去到路上和篱笆那里，勉强人进来，坐满我的屋子。 24 我告诉你们：先前所请的人，没有一个得尝我的筵席！’”
当背十架跟从主
25 有极多的人和耶稣同行。他转过来对他们说： 26 “人到我这里来，若不爱我胜过爱[a]自己的父母、妻子、儿女、弟兄、姐妹和自己的性命，就不能做我的门徒。 27 凡不背着自己十字架跟从我的，也不能做我的门徒。 28 你们哪一个要盖一座楼，不先坐下算计花费，能盖成不能呢？ 29 恐怕安了地基，不能成功，看见的人都笑话他， 30 说：‘这个人开了工，却不能完工！’ 31 或是一个王出去和别的王打仗，岂不先坐下酌量，能用一万兵去敌那领二万兵来攻打他的吗？ 32 若是不能，就趁敌人还远的时候，派使者去求和息的条款。 33 这样，你们无论什么人，若不撇下一切所有的，就不能做我的门徒。 34 盐本是好的，盐若失了味，可用什么叫它再咸呢？ 35 或用在田里，或堆在粪里，都不合适，只好丢在外面。有耳可听的，就应当听！”

14 在一个安息日里，耶稣来到法利赛人的一个首领家里去吃饭。在场的人们都密切地注视着他， 2 因为耶稣面前有一个患水肿病的人。 3 耶稣一见他就开口问律法师和法利赛人∶“在安息日是否允许为人治病呢？” 4 可是，没有人作声，于是，耶稣扶着那个病人并治愈了他，然后叫他离开了。 5 耶稣又对律法师和法利赛人说∶“如果你们中间，有人的儿子、或者是他家的一头牛，在安息日时掉进了井里，那么，难道你们不会把他（它）马上拽上来吗？” 6 这些人立刻被问得哑口无言了。
不要自命不凡
7 耶稣看到客人都为自己挑选贵宾席位，所以耶稣给他们讲了一个比喻，他说： 8 “有人请你们去赴婚筵时，不要坐在贵宾席上，因为主人可能已邀请了比你们更重要的客人。 9 如果真的是那样的话，邀请你的人就会走到你身边，对你说∶‘请把你的座位让给这个人。’那时，你只好羞愧地退到最后的座位上去。 10 但是你们受到邀请时，你们主动坐到了末座上，所以，当主人来对你说∶‘朋友，请上座。’那时，你就会在所有的来客面前有光彩。 11 因为自命不凡的人将受到贬低，而自甘谦卑的人则受到器重。”
你将得回报
12 然后，耶稣又对邀请他的那个人说∶“你招待午餐或晚餐时，不要邀请你的朋友、兄弟、亲戚或富有的邻居，因为，他们这些人将回请你，那样的话，你就得了回报。 13 但是，你摆宴席时，要邀请穷人、残疾人，瘸腿的和瞎眼的， 14 他们拿不出什么东西回报你，这样，你就有福了，因为你们将在虔诚的人复活的日子里得到报偿。”
邀请赴宴的故事
15 当时，与耶稣同桌吃饭的一个人听到了这些话就对耶稣说∶“能在上帝王国里享受筵席的人是多么有福啊！”
16 耶稣对他说∶“一个人准备了一顿丰盛的宴席，又邀请了很多客人。 17 到了该吃饭的时候，他派奴仆去对客人说∶‘请来吧，一切都准备好了！’ 18 可是，这些客人都开始找借口来推辞。第一个人说∶‘我刚买了一块地，我必须出去看看，请原谅。’ 19 另一个人说∶‘我买了五对牛，要去试试它们，请原谅。’ 20 还有一个说∶‘我刚刚结婚，所以我不能来。’ 21 于是，那个仆人回来，把一切都报告给了主人，主人听后，很生气，便对仆人说∶‘你到大街小巷里去，把那些穷人、残疾人，瞎眼的、瘸腿的，都请来！’ 22 后来，仆人又说∶‘主人，我照您的吩咐做了，可是还有些空座位，’ 23 然后主人对仆人说∶‘出去到路上，沿着栅栏，劝人进来，让我的房子都坐满了人。 24 我告诉你们：我原来请的那些人，没有一个能尝到我的筵席！’”
决定是否你们能跟随我
25 有很多人与耶稣同行着，他转过身对他们说∶ 26 “到我这里来的人，如果爱我不能胜过爱他的父母、妻子、儿女、兄弟、姐妹，甚至自己的生命，那么，他就不能做我的门徒； 27 不肯背着他的十字架跟随我的人也不能做我的门徒； 28 如果你们中有人想造一座塔，他会不会首先坐下来，仔细计算费用，看看他是否有足够的钱去完工呢？ 29 否则，他有可能打下地基，但却不能完工。到那时，所有看到这一切人就都会嘲笑他说： 30 ‘这个人只能开工，但是却不能完工！’
31 “如果一个国王出征与另一个国王打仗，他会不会首先坐下来，仔细考虑他的一万个士兵是否能抵挡另一个拥有两万个士兵的国王呢？ 32 如果不能，他就应该趁敌人还在远方时，派谴使者去与对方谈判和平的条件。 33 同样，如果你们有谁不能放弃他拥有的财产，就不能成为我的门徒。
不要失去你们的影响
34 “盐是好东西，但是，如果盐失去了咸味，它怎么可能再变咸呢？ 35 不咸的盐甚至对土壤和肥料都毫无益处，只好扔掉。
“凡有耳朵听的人，都听着！”

Is It Right to Heal on the Sabbath?
14 On a Sabbath day, Jesus went to the home of a leading Pharisee to eat with him. The people there were all watching Jesus very closely. 2 A man with dropsy[a] was brought before Jesus. 3 Jesus said to the Pharisees and teachers of the law, “Is it right or wrong to heal on the Sabbath day?” 4 But they would not answer his question. So Jesus took the man, healed him, and sent him away. 5 Jesus said to the Pharisees and teachers of the law, “If your son[b] or ox falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not pull him out quickly?” 6 And they could not answer him.
Don’t Make Yourself Important
7 Then Jesus noticed that some of the guests were choosing the best places to sit. So Jesus told this story: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, don’t take the most important seat. The host may have invited someone more important than you. 9 And if you are sitting in the most important seat, the host will come to you and say, ‘Give this man your seat.’ Then you will begin to move down to the last place. And you will be very embarrassed. 10 So when you are invited, go sit in a seat that is not important. Then the host will come to you and say, ‘Friend, move up here to a more important place!’ Then all the other guests will respect you. 11 Everyone who makes himself great will be made humble. But the person who makes himself humble will be made great.”
You Will Be Rewarded
12 Then Jesus said to the man who had invited him, “When you give a lunch or a dinner, don’t invite only your friends, brothers, relatives, and rich neighbors. At another time they will invite you to eat with them. Then you will have your reward. 13 Instead, when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame and the blind. 14 Then you will be blessed, because they cannot pay you back. They have nothing. But you will be rewarded when the good people rise from death.”
A Story About a Big Banquet
15 One of the men sitting at the table with Jesus heard these things. The man said to Jesus, “The people who will eat a meal in God’s kingdom are blessed.”
16 Jesus said to him, “A man gave a big banquet and invited many people. 17 When it was time to eat, the man sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come! Everything is ready!’
18 “But all the guests said they could not come. Each man made an excuse. The first one said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go look at it. Please excuse me.’ 19 Another man said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen; I must go and try them. Please excuse me.’ 20 A third man said, ‘I just got married; I can’t come.’ 21 So the servant returned. He told his master what had happened. Then the master became angry and said, ‘Go at once into the streets and alleys of the town. Bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’ 22 Later the servant said to him, ‘Master, I did what you told me to do, but we still have places for more people.’ 23 The master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes. Tell the people there to come. I want my house to be full! 24 None of those men that I invited first will ever eat with me!’”
You Must First Plan
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus. He turned and said to them, 26 “If anyone comes to me but loves his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, or sisters more than he loves me, then he cannot be my follower. A person must love me more than he loves himself! 27 If anyone is not willing to die on a cross when he follows me, then he cannot be my follower. 28 If you wanted to build a tower, you would first sit down and decide how much it would cost. You must see if you have enough money to finish the job. 29 If you don’t do that, you might begin the work, but you would not be able to finish. And if you could not finish it, then all who would see it would laugh at you. 30 They would say, ‘This man began to build but was not able to finish!’
31 “If a king is going to fight against another king, first he will sit down and plan. If the king has only 10,000 men, he will plan to see if he is able to defeat the other king who has 20,000 men. 32 If he cannot defeat the other king, then he will send some men to speak to the other king and ask for peace. 33 In the same way, you must give up everything you have to follow me. If you don’t, you cannot be my follower!
Don’t Lose Your Influence
34 “Salt is a good thing. But if the salt loses its salty taste, then it is worth nothing. You cannot make it salty again. 35 It is no good for the soil or for manure. People throw it away.
“Let those with ears use them and listen!”

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)
14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
5 Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) 6 And they had nothing to say.
7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)
12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)
The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)
15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)
16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’
21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)
22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)
The Cost of Being a Disciple
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)
