安息日的辯論

14 有一個安息日,耶穌到一個法利賽人的首領家裡去吃飯[a],他們密切注意著耶穌。 當時,有一個患水腫病的人在他面前。 於是耶穌問律法師們和法利賽人,說:「在安息日使人痊癒,可以不可以?」 他們都安靜下來。耶穌就扶著那人,使他痊癒,讓他走了。 然後耶穌對他們說:「你們當中誰有兒子[b]或牛在安息日這一天掉到井裡,而不立刻把他拉上來呢?」 他們對這些話不能答辯。

論謙卑

耶穌留意到被邀請的人怎樣在那裡挑選上座,就對他們講了一個比喻說: 「你被人邀請赴婚宴的時候,不要坐在上座,恐怕有比你更尊貴的人也被邀請, 那邀請你們[c]的會來對你說:『請讓座給這一位!』那時候,你就要羞慚地去坐末位了。

10 「你被邀請的時候,要去坐在末位上,好讓邀請你的人一旦來,就會對你說:『朋友,請來上座。』那時候,你就在所有一同坐席的人面前有光彩了。 11 因為每一個自我高舉的都會被降卑;而自我降卑的都會被高舉。」

12 耶穌又對邀請他的人說:「你預備午餐或晚餐的時候,不要叫你的朋友、兄弟、親戚或富有的鄰居,免得他們也回請你,你就得了你的回報了。 13 相反,你預備宴席的時候,要邀請那些貧窮的、殘疾的、瘸腿的、瞎眼的, 14 這樣你就蒙福了,因為他們沒有可回報你的,而在義人復活的時候,你將得到回報。」

大筵席的比喻

15 一同坐席的有一個人聽了這些話,就說:「將來能在神的國裡吃飯[d]的人是蒙福的!」

16 耶穌對他說:「有一個人預備盛大的宴席,邀請了許多人。 17 到了宴席的時刻,他派奴僕去對那些被邀請的人說:『請來吧,一切都已經預備好了!』

18 「可是他們都開始一致地推辭。第一個說:『我買了一塊地,必須去看看,請你容我推辭吧。』

19 「另一個說:『我買了五對牛,正要去試試牠們,請你容我推辭吧。』

20 「另有人說:『我剛娶了妻子,所以不能去。』

21 「奴僕回來把這些事報告給主人。那家的主人就發怒,吩咐奴僕說:『趕快出去,到城裡的大街[e]小巷,把那些貧窮的、殘疾的、瞎眼的、瘸腿的,都帶到這裡來。』

22 「奴僕說:『主人,你所吩咐的已經做了,可是還有位子。』

23 「主人就對奴僕說:『出去,到大街和小巷[f]上去,強求人進來,好坐滿我的房子。 24 我告訴你們:原本被邀請的那些人,沒有一個能嘗到我的宴席。』」

跟隨主的代價

25 有一大群人與耶穌同行。他轉過身來對他們說: 26 「如果有人到我這裡來,而不恨自己的父親、母親、妻子、兒女、兄弟、姐妹,甚至自己的生命,他就不能做我的門徒。 27 凡是不背著自己的十字架來跟從我的,也不能做我的門徒。

28 「你們當中到底有誰想蓋一座樓,不先坐下來計算費用,看自己是否能夠完成呢? 29 免得立好了地基,卻不能完工,看見的人都開始嘲笑他, 30 說:『這個人開始蓋了,卻不能完工!』

31 「或者,有哪一個君王要出去和別的君王交戰,不先坐下來考慮是否能夠用一萬兵去迎戰那用兩萬兵來攻打他的呢? 32 否則,就會趁著他還遠的時候,差派特使去求問和平的事宜。 33 同樣,你們當中任何人,如果不向自己所擁有的一切告別,就不能做我的門徒。

34 「因此鹽是好的,但如果連鹽也失去了味道,還能用什麼來調味呢? 35 把它用在田地裡或在糞肥裡都不合適,只好把它丟在外面。凡是有耳可聽的,就應當聽!」

在安息日给人治病对吗?

14 在一个安息日里,耶稣来到法利赛人的一个首领家里去吃饭。在场的人们都密切地注视着他, 因为耶稣面前有一个患水肿病的人。 耶稣一见他就开口问律法师和法利赛人∶“在安息日是否允许为人治病呢?” 可是,没有人作声,于是,耶稣扶着那个病人并治愈了他,然后叫他离开了。 耶稣又对律法师和法利赛人说∶“如果你们中间,有人的儿子、或者是他家的一头牛,在安息日时掉进了井里,那么,难道你们不会把他(它)马上拽上来吗?” 这些人立刻被问得哑口无言了。

不要自命不凡

耶稣看到客人都为自己挑选贵宾席位,所以耶稣给他们讲了一个比喻,他说: “有人请你们去赴婚筵时,不要坐在贵宾席上,因为主人可能已邀请了比你们更重要的客人。 如果真的是那样的话,邀请你的人就会走到你身边,对你说∶‘请把你的座位让给这个人。’那时,你只好羞愧地退到最后的座位上去。 10 但是你们受到邀请时,你们主动坐到了末座上,所以,当主人来对你说∶‘朋友,请上座。’那时,你就会在所有的来客面前有光彩。 11 因为自命不凡的人将受到贬低,而自甘谦卑的人则受到器重。”

你将得回报

12 然后,耶稣又对邀请他的那个人说∶“你招待午餐或晚餐时,不要邀请你的朋友、兄弟、亲戚或富有的邻居,因为,他们这些人将回请你,那样的话,你就得了回报。 13 但是,你摆宴席时,要邀请穷人、残疾人,瘸腿的和瞎眼的, 14 他们拿不出什么东西回报你,这样,你就有福了,因为你们将在虔诚的人复活的日子里得到报偿。”

邀请赴宴的故事

15 当时,与耶稣同桌吃饭的一个人听到了这些话就对耶稣说∶“能在上帝王国里享受筵席的人是多么有福啊!”

16 耶稣对他说∶“一个人准备了一顿丰盛的宴席,又邀请了很多客人。 17 到了该吃饭的时候,他派奴仆去对客人说∶‘请来吧,一切都准备好了!’ 18 可是,这些客人都开始找借口来推辞。第一个人说∶‘我刚买了一块地,我必须出去看看,请原谅。’ 19 另一个人说∶‘我买了五对牛,要去试试它们,请原谅。’ 20 还有一个说∶‘我刚刚结婚,所以我不能来。’ 21 于是,那个仆人回来,把一切都报告给了主人,主人听后,很生气,便对仆人说∶‘你到大街小巷里去,把那些穷人、残疾人,瞎眼的、瘸腿的,都请来!’ 22 后来,仆人又说∶‘主人,我照您的吩咐做了,可是还有些空座位,’ 23 然后主人对仆人说∶‘出去到路上,沿着栅栏,劝人进来,让我的房子都坐满了人。 24 我告诉你们:我原来请的那些人,没有一个能尝到我的筵席!’”

决定是否你们能跟随我

25 有很多人与耶稣同行着,他转过身对他们说∶ 26 “到我这里来的人,如果爱我不能胜过爱他的父母、妻子、儿女、兄弟、姐妹,甚至自己的生命,那么,他就不能做我的门徒; 27 不肯背着他的十字架跟随我的人也不能做我的门徒; 28 如果你们中有人想造一座塔,他会不会首先坐下来,仔细计算费用,看看他是否有足够的钱去完工呢? 29 否则,他有可能打下地基,但却不能完工。到那时,所有看到这一切人就都会嘲笑他说: 30 ‘这个人只能开工,但是却不能完工!’

31 “如果一个国王出征与另一个国王打仗,他会不会首先坐下来,仔细考虑他的一万个士兵是否能抵挡另一个拥有两万个士兵的国王呢? 32 如果不能,他就应该趁敌人还在远方时,派谴使者去与对方谈判和平的条件。 33 同样,如果你们有谁不能放弃他拥有的财产,就不能成为我的门徒。

不要失去你们的影响

34 “盐是好东西,但是,如果盐失去了咸味,它怎么可能再变咸呢? 35 不咸的盐甚至对土壤和肥料都毫无益处,只好扔掉。

“凡有耳朵听的人,都听着!”

Jesus Heals the Man with Dropsy

14 On one occasion when Jesus[a] was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely. Just then, in front of him, there was a man who had dropsy. And Jesus asked the lawyers and Pharisees, ‘Is it lawful to cure people on the sabbath, or not?’ But they were silent. So Jesus[b] took him and healed him, and sent him away. Then he said to them, ‘If one of you has a child[c] or an ox that has fallen into a well, will you not immediately pull it out on a sabbath day?’ And they could not reply to this.

Humility and Hospitality

When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honour, he told them a parable. ‘When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honour, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, “Give this person your place”, and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, “Friend, move up higher”; then you will be honoured in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. 11 For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.’

12 He said also to the one who had invited him, ‘When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbours, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. 14 And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.’

The Parable of the Great Dinner

15 One of the dinner guests, on hearing this, said to him, ‘Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!’ 16 Then Jesus[d] said to him, ‘Someone gave a great dinner and invited many. 17 At the time for the dinner he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, “Come; for everything is ready now.” 18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, “I have bought a piece of land, and I must go out and see it; please accept my apologies.” 19 Another said, “I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please accept my apologies.” 20 Another said, “I have just been married, and therefore I cannot come.” 21 So the slave returned and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his slave, “Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.” 22 And the slave said, “Sir, what you ordered has been done, and there is still room.” 23 Then the master said to the slave, “Go out into the roads and lanes, and compel people to come in, so that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you,[e] none of those who were invited will taste my dinner.”’

The Cost of Discipleship

25 Now large crowds were travelling with him; and he turned and said to them, 26 ‘Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, 30 saying, “This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.” 31 Or what king, going out to wage war against another king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he cannot, then, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for the terms of peace. 33 So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.

About Salt

34 ‘Salt is good; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored?[f] 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure heap; they throw it away. Let anyone with ears to hear listen!’
