Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)
14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
5 Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) 6 And they had nothing to say.
7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)
12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)
The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)
15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)
16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’
21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)
22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)
The Cost of Being a Disciple
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)

14 ஓய்வு நாளில் இயேசு பரிசேயர்களின் தலைவனாகிய ஒருவனின் வீட்டுக்கு அவனோடு உணவு உண்ணச் சென்றார். அங்கிருந்த ஜனங்கள் இயேசுவைக் கவனித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். 2 கொடிய நோய்[a] உள்ள ஒரு மனிதனை இயேசுவின் முன்னே கொண்டு வந்தார்கள். 3 இயேசு பரிசேயரிடமும், வேதபாரகரிடமும், “ஓய்வு நாளில் குணப்படுத்துவது சரியா அல்லது தவறா?” என்று கேட்டார். 4 ஆனால் அவர்கள் அந்தக் கேள்விக்குப் பதில் சொல்லவில்லை. எனவே இயேசு அந்த மனிதனை அழைத்து அவனைக் குணமாக்கினார். பின்னர் இயேசு அந்த மனிதனை அனுப்பிவிட்டார். 5 பரிசேயரிடமும், வேதபாரகரிடமும் இயேசு, “உங்கள் மகனோ அல்லது வேலை செய்யும் மிருகமோ ஓய்வு நாளில் ஒரு கிணற்றில் விழுந்துவிட்டால் விரைந்து வெளியே எடுப்பீர்கள் என்பது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும்” என்றார். 6 இயேசு கூறியதற்கு எதிராகப் பரிசேயர்களும் வேதபாரகர்களும் எதையும் கூற முடியவில்லை.
சுயமுக்கியத்துவம் வேண்டாம்
7 விருந்தினர்களில் சிலர் மதிப்புக்குரிய உயர்ந்த இடத்தில் அமருவதற்காக தேர்ந்தெடுத்துக்கொண்டிருப்பதை இயேசு கவனித்தார். எனவே இயேசு இவ்வுவமையைச் சொன்னார். 8 “ஒருவன் உங்களை ஒரு திருமணத்திற்காக அழைக்கும்போது, மிக முக்கியமான இருக்கையில் அமராதீர்கள். அந்த மனிதன் உங்களைக் காட்டிலும் முக்கியமான மனிதர் ஒருவரை அழைத்திருக்கக் கூடும். 9 நீங்கள் முக்கியமான இருக்கையில் அமர்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கையில் உங்கள் இருவரையும் அழைத்த மனிதன் வந்து, ‘உங்கள் இருக்கையை இவருக்குக் கொடுங்கள்’ என்று கூறக்கூடும். எனவே கடைசி இடத்தை நோக்கி, நீங்கள் செல்லக் கூடும். உங்களுக்கு அது அவமானமாக இருக்கும்.
10 “எனவே ஒருவன் உங்களை அழைக்கும்போது முக்கியமற்ற இடத்தில் உட்காருங்கள். அப்போது உங்களை அழைத்த மனிதன் உங்களிடம் வந்து, ‘நண்பனே, இன்னும் முக்கியமான இருக்கையில் வந்து அமருங்கள்’ என்பான். அப்போது மற்ற எல்லா விருந்தினர்களும் உங்களை மதிப்பார்கள். 11 தன்னை முக்கியமாகக் கருதும் எந்த மனிதனும் தாழ்த்தப்படுவான். தன்னைத் தாழ்த்திக்கொள்கிற மனிதன் உயர்வாக வைக்கப்படுவான்” என்றார்.
நீ பலன் பெறுவாய்
12 பின்பு இயேசு தன்னை அழைத்த பரிசேயனை நோக்கி, “நீ பகலுணவோ, இரவுணவோ அளிக்கையில், உன் நண்பர்கள், சகோதரர்கள், உறவினர்கள், செல்வந்தர்களாகிய அக்கம் பக்கத்தார் ஆகியோரை மட்டும் அழைக்காதே. மற்றொரு முறை அவர்கள் உன்னைத் தம்மோடு உண்ணுவதற்காக அழைப்பார்கள். அப்பொழுது உனக்கு உன் பலன் கிடைத்துவிடும். 13 அதற்கு மாறாக, நீ விருந்தளிக்கும் போது, ஏழைகளையும், முடமானவர்களையும், நொண்டிகளையும், குருடர்களையும் அழைத்துக்கொள். 14 அந்த ஏழைகள் உனக்கு மீண்டும் எதுவும் அளிக்க முடியாததால் நீ ஆசீர்வதிக்கப்படுவாய். அவர்களுக்கு ஒன்றுமில்லை. ஆனால் நல்லோர் மரணத்திலிருந்து எழுகையில் உனக்கு அதற்குரிய பலன் கிடைக்கும்” என்றார்.
பெரிய விருந்தின் உவமை

15 இயேசுவுடன் மேசையருகே உட்கார்ந்திருந்த ஒரு மனிதன் இவற்றைக் கேட்டான். அவன் இயேசுவிடம், “தேவனின் இராஜ்யத்தில் உணவை அருந்தும் மக்கள் மிகுந்த சந்தோஷமாக இருப்பார்கள்” என்றான்.
16 இயேசு அவனை நோக்கி, “ஒரு மனிதன் ஒரு பெரிய விருந்துக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்தான். பலரையும் அவ்விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தான். 17 சாப்பிடும் வேளை நெருங்கியதும் அவன் வேலைக்காரனை விருந்தினர்களிடம் அனுப்பி, ‘வாருங்கள்! உணவு தயாராக இருக்கிறது’ என்று சொல்லுமாறு அனுப்பினான். 18 ஆனால் அந்த விருந்தினர்கள் எல்லாம் தம்மால் வர இயலாது எனச் சொல்லி அனுப்பினார்கள். ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஏதேனும் ஒரு சாக்குப்போக்கு கூறினார்கள். முதலாமவன், ‘நான் ஒரு வயலை வாங்கியுள்ளேன். அதைப் பார்க்கப் போகவேண்டும். தயவுசெய்து மன்னிக்கவும்’ என்றான். 19 இன்னொருவன், ‘ஐந்து ஜோடி ஏர்மாடுகள் வாங்கி இருக்கிறேன். அவைகளை சோதித்துபார்க்கப் போகவேண்டும். தயவுசெய்து மன்னித்துகொள்’ என்றான். 20 மூன்றாமவன், ‘எனக்கு இப்பொழுதுதான் திருமணமாயிற்று. நான் வர முடியாது’ என்றான்.
21 “எனவே வேலைக்காரன் திரும்பி வந்தான். நடந்தவற்றை எஜமானருக்குக் கூறினான். எஜமானர் சினந்து, தன் வேலைக்காரனிடம், ‘விரைந்து செல். தெருக்களிலும், ஊரின் ஒதுக்குப் புறங்களிலும் இருக்கிற ஏழைகளையும், அங்கவீனர்களையும், குருடரையும், முடவர்களையும் அழைத்து வா’ என்றான்.
22 “பின்னர் வேலைக்காரன் அவனிடம் வந்து, ‘எஜமானரே, நீங்கள் கூறியபடியே நான் செய்தேன். ஆனால் இன்னும் அதிக மக்களுக்கு இடமிருக்கிறது’ என்றான். 23 எஜமானன் வேலைக்காரனை நோக்கி, ‘பெரும் பாதைகள் அருகேயும் கிராமப்புறத்திற்கும் செல். அங்குள்ள மக்களை வருமாறு சொல். எனது வீடு முழுவதும் ஆட்களால் நிரம்பி இருக்க வேண்டும்’ என்று வற்புறுத்தினான். 24 மேலும் ‘நான் முதலில் அழைத்தவர்களில் ஒருவர் கூட என்னோடு விருந்துண்ணப் போவதில்லை’ என்றான்” எனக் கூறினார்.
முதலில் திட்டமிடுங்கள்
(மத்தேயு 10:37-38)
25 இயேசுவோடு பலர் பயணம் செய்துகொண்டு இருந்தனர். இயேசு மக்களை நோக்கி, 26 “என்னிடம் வருகிற ஒருவன் அவனது தந்தையையோ, தாயையோ, சகோதரரையோ, சகோதரிகளையோ, என்னைக் காட்டிலும் அதிகமாக நேசித்தால் அம்மனிதன் எனக்குச் சீஷனாக ஆக முடியாது. ஒருவன் தன்னை நேசிப்பதைக் காட்டிலும் அதிகமாக என்னை நேசிக்க வேண்டும்! 27 ஒருவன் என்னைப் பின்பற்றும்போது அவனுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் சிலுவையை (துன்பத்தை) சுமக்காவிட்டால் அவன் எனக்குச் சீஷனாக முடியாது.
28 “ஒரு கோட்டையைக் கட்டும் முன்பு, முதலில் அமர்ந்து அதைக் கட்டுவதற்கு எவ்வளவு செலவாகும் என்பதைத் தீர்மானிப்பீர்கள். வேலையை முடிப்பதற்குத் தேவையான பணம் உங்களிடம் இருக்கிறதா என்பதைப் பார்க்க வேண்டும். 29 அதைச் செய்யாவிட்டால் நீங்கள் வேலையைத் தொடங்கினாலும், அதை முடிக்க உங்களால் முடியாது. நீங்கள் அதை முடிக்க முடியாவிட்டால் அதைக் கவனிக்கிற எல்லா மக்களும் உங்களைப் பார்த்து நகைப்பார்கள். 30 அவர்கள், ‘இந்த மனிதன் கட்ட ஆரம்பித்தான். ஆனால் முடிக்க முடியவில்லை’ என்று சொல்வார்கள்.
31 “ஓர் ராஜா மற்றோர் ராஜாவுக்கு எதிராகப் போரிடச் சென்றால், முதலில் அமர்ந்து திட்டமிடுவான். ராஜாவிடம் பத்தாயிரம் வீரர்கள் மட்டுமே இருந்தால் இருபதாயிரம் வீரர்கள் கொண்ட மற்ற ராஜாவைத் தோற்கடிக்க முடியுமா எனப் பார்ப்பான். 32 அவனால் மற்ற ராஜாவைத் தோற்கடிக்க முடியாதென்றால், எதிரி இன்னும் தொலைவான இடத்தில் இருக்கும்பொழுதே சில ஆட்களை அனுப்பி அந்த ராஜாவிடம் சமாதானத்திற்கான பேச்சு வார்த்தையில் ஈடுபடுவான்.
33 “அதைப்போலவே முதலில் நீங்கள் திட்டமிட வேண்டும். என்னைப் பின்பற்ற வேண்டுமானால் உங்களிடம் இருக்கும் அனைத்தையும் கொடுத்துவிட வேண்டும், அவ்வாறு செய்யவில்லை என்றால், நீங்கள் எனது சீஷராக இருக்க முடியாது!”
உப்பின் உதாரணம்

34 “உப்பு ஒரு நல்ல பொருள். ஆனால் உப்பு அதன் சுவையை இழந்துபோனால் அதனால் பயன் எதுவும் இல்லை. அதைத் திரும்பவும் சுவை உடையதாக மாற்ற முடியாது. 35 மண்ணிற்காகவோ, உரமாகவோ, கூட அதனைப் பயன்படுத்த முடியாது. மக்கள் அதை வீசியெறிந்துவிடுவார்கள்.
“என்னைக் கேட்கிற மக்களே! கவனியுங்கள்” என்றார்.

14 Една събота Исус отиде да яде в къщата на виден фарисей. Всички го наблюдаваха много внимателно. 2 Срещу него седеше човек, страдащ от воднянка. 3 Исус попита законоучителите и фарисеите: „Позволено ли е да се лекува в съботен ден или не?“ 4 Но те мълчаха. Тогава Исус хвана болния, излекува го и го изпрати да си върви. 5 После се обърна към законоучителите и фарисеите: „Ако синът ви или волът ви падне в кладенец, няма ли незабавно да го извадите оттам, дори денят да е събота?“ 6 Те нищо не можаха да отговорят на това.
Не се дръжте високомерно
7 Когато забеляза, че гостите се настаняват на най-почетните места, Исус им разказа следната притча: 8 „Когато те поканят на сватба, не сядай на най-почетното място, защото ако някой от поканените е по-важен от теб, 9 тогава домакинът, който е поканил и двама ви, ще дойде и ще ти каже: „Отстъпи мястото си на този човек.“ И ти, засрамен, ще станеш, за да се преместиш на последното място. 10 Ето защо, когато те поканят на сватба, седни на най-скромното място. 12 Тогава Исус каза на фарисея, който го беше поканил: „Когато даваш обяд или вечеря, не кани приятелите, братята, роднините и богатите си съседи, защото и те на свой ред ще те поканят. 13 Вместо това покани бедните, сакатите, недъгавите и слепите 14 и ще бъдеш благословен, понеже тези хора нямат с какво да ти се отплатят, но Бог ще те възнагради, когато праведните хора възкръснат от мъртвите.“
Притча за голямото празненство

15 Като чу това, един от седящите на масата заедно с Исус му каза: „Благословен е всеки, който участва в празненството в Божието царство!“
16 Исус му отговори: „Един човек устроил голямо празненство, на което поканил много гости. 17 Когато дошъл уреченият час, човекът изпратил слугата си да каже на поканените: „Елате, всичко е готово.“ 18 Но всички поканени започнали да се извиняват. Първият казал: „Току-що си купих нива и трябва да отида да я огледам. Моля те, приеми моите извинения.“ 19 Друг се заоправдавал: „Току-що си купих пет чифта волове и отивам да ги изпробвам. Моля те, приеми моите извинения.“ 20 Трети казал: „Току-що се ожених и не мога да дойда.“ 21 Слугата се върнал и разказал всичко на господаря си. Господарят се разгневил и му казал: „Бързо обиколи всички улици и пътеки на града и доведи тук бедните, сакатите, слепите и куците.“ 22 Малко след това слугата казал: „Господарю, изпълних всичко, което ми нареди, но има още място.“ 23 Тогава господарят казал на слугата си: «Тръгни по пътищата и покрай оградите и убеждавай всички, които срещнеш, да дойдат тук, за да се напълни къщата ми. 24 Казвам ти: нито един от онези, които първо бях поканил, няма да участва в празненството ми.»“
Не постъпвайте прибързано

25 Заедно с Исус вървяха много хора. Обръщайки се към тях, той им каза: 26 „Ако някой дойде при мен, но обича баща си и майка си, жена си и децата си, братята, сестрите си и даже собствения си живот повече от мен, не може да бъде мой ученик. 27 Който не носи кръста си и не ме следва, не може да бъде мой ученик. 28 Ако някой от вас иска да построи кула, няма ли първо да седне да си направи сметка за разходите, за да види има ли достатъчно средства да завърши работата? 29 Иначе, ако положи основите, но не е в състояние да завърши строежа, тогава всички, които го гледат, ще му се присмеят 30 и ще кажат: „Този човек започна да строи, но не можа да завърши.“
31 Ако един цар има намерение да воюва срещу друг цар, нима няма първо да седне и прецени може ли с десет хиляди души да победи идващия срещу него с двадесет хиляди? 32 Ако види, че не може, тогава много преди другият цар да се приближи, той ще изпрати посланици да преговарят за мир. 33 По същия начин всеки един от вас трябва да се откаже от всичко, което има, иначе не може да бъде мой ученик.

14 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.
2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.
3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?
4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;
5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?
6 And they could not answer him again to these things.
7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them.
8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;
9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.
10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.
11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.
18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.
19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.
20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.
21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.
22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.
23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.
24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.
28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,
30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?
32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.
33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?
35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
