14 ¶ Y aconteció que entrando en casa de un príncipe de los fariseos un sábado a comer pan, ellos le acechaban.
2 Y he aquí un hombre hidrópico estaba delante de él.
3 Y respondiendo Jesús, habló a los doctores de la ley y a los fariseos, diciendo: ¿Es lícito sanar en sábado?
4 Y ellos callaron. Entonces él tomándole, le sanó, y le despidió.
5 Y respondiendo a ellos dijo: ¿El asno o el buey de cuál de vosotros caerá en algún pozo, y no lo sacará luego en día de sábado?
6 Y no le podían replicar a estas cosas.
7 ¶ Y observando cómo escogían los primeros asientos a la mesa, refirió una parábola a los convidados, diciéndoles:
8 Cuando fueres llamado de alguno a bodas, no te sientes en el primer lugar, no sea que otro más honrado que tú esté por él convidado,
9 y viniendo el que te llamó a ti y a él, te diga: Da lugar a éste; y entonces comiences con vergüenza a tener el lugar último.
10 Mas cuando fueres llamado, ve, y siéntate en el postrer lugar; porque cuando viniere el que te llamó, te diga: Amigo, ven arriba; entonces tendrás gloria delante de los que juntamente se sientan a la mesa.
11 Porque cualquiera que se ensalza, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será ensalzado.
12 Y dijo también al que le había convidado: Cuando hagas comida o cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a vecinos ricos; para que ellos te vuelvan a convidar, y te sea hecha compensación.
13 Mas cuando hagas banquete, llama a los pobres, los mancos, los cojos, los ciegos;
14 y serás bienaventurado; porque no te pueden pagar; mas te será pagado en la resurrección de los justos.
15 ¶ Y oyendo esto uno de los que juntamente estaban sentados a la mesa, le dijo: Bienaventurado el que comerá pan en el Reino de los cielos.
16 El entonces le dijo: Un hombre hizo una gran cena, y llamó a muchos.
17 Y a la hora de la cena envió a su esclavo a decir a los llamados: Venid, que ya está todo aparejado.
18 Y comenzaron todos a una a excusarse. El primero le dijo: He comprado una hacienda, y necesito salir y verla; te ruego que me des por excusado.
19 Y el otro dijo: He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes, y voy a probarlos; te ruego que me des por excusado.
20 Y el otro dijo: Acabo de casarme, y por tanto no puedo ir.
21 Y vuelto el esclavo, hizo saber estas cosas a su señor. Entonces enojado el padre de familia, dijo a su esclavo: Ve presto por las plazas y por las calles de la ciudad, y mete acá los pobres, los mancos, y cojos, y ciegos.
22 Y dijo el esclavo: Señor, hecho es como mandaste, y aún hay lugar.
23 Y dijo el señor al esclavo: Ve por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos a entrar, para que se llene mi casa.
24 Porque os digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron llamados, gustará mi Cena.
25 ¶ Y muchas personas iban con él; y volviéndose les dijo:
26 Si alguno viene a mí, y no aborrece a su padre, y madre, y mujer, e hijos, y hermanos, y hermanas, y aun también su vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.
27 Y cualquiera que no carga su madero, y viene en pos de mí, no puede ser mi discípulo.
28 Porque ¿cuál de vosotros, queriendo edificar una torre, no cuenta primero sentado los gastos, para ver si tiene lo que necesita para acabarla?
29 Para que después que haya puesto el fundamento, y no pueda acabarla, todos los que lo vieren, no comiencen a hacer burla de él,
30 diciendo: Este hombre comenzó a edificar y no pudo acabar.
31 ¿O cuál rey, teniendo que ir a hacer guerra contra otro rey, sentándose primero no consulta si puede salir al encuentro con diez mil al que viene contra él con veinte mil?
32 De otra manera, cuando aun el otro está lejos, le ruega por la paz, enviándole embajada.
33 Así pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncia a todas las cosas que posee, no puede ser mi discípulo.
34 Buena es la sal; mas si la sal fuere desvanecida, ¿con qué se adobará?
35 Ni para la tierra, ni para el muladar es buena; fuera la arrojan. Quien tiene oídos para oír, oiga.

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)
14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
5 Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) 6 And they had nothing to say.
7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)
12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)
The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)
15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)
16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’
21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)
22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)
The Cost of Being a Disciple
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)

Healing of a Man on the Sabbath
14 One Sabbath, (A)when he went to dine at the house of a ruler of the Pharisees, they were (B)watching him carefully. 2 And behold, there was a man before him who had dropsy. 3 And Jesus responded to (C)the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, (D)“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?” 4 But they remained silent. Then he took him and healed him and sent him away. 5 And he said to them, (E)“Which of you, having a son[a] or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?” 6 (F)And they could not reply to these things.
The Parable of the Wedding Feast
7 Now he told a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed (G)how they chose the places of honor, saying to them, 8 “When you are invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor, lest someone more distinguished than you be invited by him, 9 and he who invited you both will come and say to you, ‘Give your place to this person,’ and then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, (H)so that when your host comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you. 11 For (I)everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
The Parable of the Great Banquet
12 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give (J)a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers[b] or your relatives or rich neighbors, (K)lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, (L)invite (M)the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid (N)at (O)the resurrection of the just.”
15 When one of those who reclined at table with him heard these things, he said to him, (P)“Blessed is everyone who will (Q)eat bread in the kingdom of God!” 16 But he said to him, (R)“A man once (S)gave a great banquet and invited many. 17 And at the time for the banquet he (T)sent his servant[c] to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’ 18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go out and see it. Please have me excused.’ 19 And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. Please have me excused.’ 20 And another said, (U)‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ 21 So the servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house became angry and said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in (V)the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ 22 And the servant said, ‘Sir, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23 And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I tell you,[d] (W)none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet.’”
The Cost of Discipleship
25 Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them, 26 (X)“If anyone comes to me and (Y)does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, (Z)yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 (AA)Whoever does not (AB)bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not (AC)first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29 Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ 31 Or what king, going out to encounter another king in war, will not (AD)sit down first and deliberate whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 And if not, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks for terms of peace. 33 (AE)So therefore, any one of you who (AF)does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.
Salt Without Taste Is Worthless
34 (AG)“Salt is good, (AH)but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? 35 It is of no use either for the soil or for the manure pile. It is thrown away. (AI)He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Ei îl urmăreau îndeaproape. 2 Şi iată că înaintea Lui era un om bolnav de dropică[a]. 3 Isus i-a întrebat pe experţii în Lege şi pe farisei: „Este voie să vindeci în ziua de Sabat sau nu?“ 4 Ei însă tăceau. Isus l-a luat de mână, l-a vindecat şi l-a lăsat să plece, 5 iar lor le-a zis: „Care dintre voi, dacă îi cade copilul[b] sau boul într-o fântână în ziua de Sabat, nu-l va scoate imediat afară?“ 6 N-au putut să-I răspundă nimic la aceste vorbe.
Smerenie şi ospitalitate
7 Când i-a văzut pe cei invitaţi cum îşi aleg scaunele de onoare, le-a spus următoarea pildă:
8 „Când eşti invitat de cineva la o nuntă, să nu te aşezi să mănânci pe locul de onoare, ca nu cumva să fi fost invitat de către gazdă cineva mai de seamă decât tine, 9 iar cel ce v-a invitat şi pe tine, şi pe el să vină să-ţi spună: «Dă locul tău acestui om!» Atunci, cu ruşine, va trebui să ocupi ultimul loc. 10 Ci tu, când eşti invitat, du-te şi aşază-te pe ultimul loc, pentru ca atunci când vine cel ce te-a invitat, să-ţi spună: «Prietene, mută-te mai în faţă!» Lucrul acesta îţi va face cinste înaintea tuturor celor ce stau la masă împreună cu tine. 11 Căci oricine se înalţă pe sine va fi smerit şi oricine se smereşte va fi înălţat.“
12 Apoi i-a zis şi celui ce-L invitase: „Când dai un prânz sau o cină, nu-ţi invita nici prietenii, nici fraţii, nici rudele, nici vecinii bogaţi, ca nu cumva să te invite şi ei pe tine şi să fii astfel răsplătit. 13 Ci tu, când dai un ospăţ, invită-i pe cei săraci, pe cei infirmi, pe cei şchiopi şi pe cei orbi. 14 Şi vei fi fericit, pentru că ei nu au cu ce să te răsplătească, dar vei fi răsplătit la învierea celor drepţi.“
Pilda celor invitaţi la cină
15 Când a auzit aceste vorbe, unul dintre cei ce stăteau la masă cu El I-a zis:
– Ferice de acela care va mânca în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu!
16 Însă Isus i-a răspuns:
– Un om a dat o cină mare şi a invitat pe mulţi. 17 La ora cinei, şi-a trimis sclavul să le spună celor invitaţi: „Veniţi, căci acum toate sunt gata!»
18 Dar toţi, unul după altul, au început să se scuze.[c] Primul i-a zis: „Am cumpărat un ogor şi trebuie să mă duc să-l văd. Te rog, scuză-mă!“
19 Altul i-a zis: „Am cumpărat cinci perechi de boi şi mă duc să-i încerc. Te rog, scuză-mă!“
20 Altul i-a zis: „Tocmai m-am însurat şi de aceea nu pot să vin!“
21 Când sclavul s-a întors, l-a înştiinţat pe stăpânul său de aceste lucruri. Atunci stăpânul casei s-a înfuriat şi i-a zis sclavului său: „Ieşi repede pe străzile şi pe aleile cetăţii şi adu-i aici pe cei săraci, pe cei infirmi, pe cei orbi şi pe cei şchiopi!“
22 La urmă, sclavul a zis: „Stăpâne, s-a făcut ce ai poruncit şi tot mai este loc!“ 23 Stăpânul i-a zis atunci sclavului: „Ieşi pe drumuri şi pe cărări şi sileşte-i pe oameni să vină, ca să mi se umple casa! 24 Căci vă spun că nici unul din acei oameni care fuseseră invitaţi nu va gusta din cina mea!“
Costul uceniciei
25 Împreună cu El mergeau mulţimi mari de oameni. El S-a întors şi le-a zis: 26 „Dacă vine cineva la Mine şi nu-şi urăşte[d] tatăl, mama, soţia, copiii, fraţii, surorile, ba chiar însăşi viaţa sa, nu poate fi ucenicul Meu. 27 Oricine nu-şi duce crucea lui însuşi şi nu vine după Mine nu poate fi ucenicul Meu.
28 Căci cine dintre voi, dacă vrea să construiască un turn, nu stă mai întâi să calculeze costul, ca să vadă dacă are cu ce să-l termine? 29 Pentru ca nu cumva, după ce-i pune temelia, să nu-l poată termina şi toţi cei care văd aceasta să înceapă să-şi bată joc de el 30 şi să zică: «Omul acesta a început să construiască şi n-a putut să termine!»
31 Sau care rege, când porneşte la război împotriva altui rege, nu stă mai întâi să se gândească bine dacă poate să i se opună cu zece mii de oameni celui ce vine împotriva lui cu douăzeci de mii?! 32 Dacă nu poate, atunci, în timp ce acesta este încă departe, el îi va trimite un sol ca să ceară pace. 33 Tot aşa, oricine dintre voi care nu renunţă la toate bunurile lui, nu poate fi ucenicul Meu.
34 Sarea este bună. Dar dacă sarea îşi pierde gustul, prin ce va fi făcută din nou sărată?! 35 Nu mai este de folos nici pentru pământ şi nici pentru grămada de gunoi, ci oamenii o aruncă afară. Cel ce are urechi de auzit, să audă!“
