Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Lalaking Minamanas
14 Isang Araw ng Pamamahinga, inanyayahan si Jesus na kumain sa bahay ng isang pinuno ng mga Pariseo. Minamanmanan siyang mabuti ng mga taong kumokontra sa kanya. 2 Doon ay may isang lalaking minamanas. 3 Tinanong ni Jesus ang mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo, “Ipinapahintulot ba ng Kautusan ang magpagaling ng may sakit sa Araw ng Pamamahinga o hindi?” 4 Pero hindi sila sumagot. Kaya hinawakan ni Jesus ang may sakit, pinagaling at saka pinauwi. 5 Pagkatapos, sinabi niya sa kanila, “Kung mahulog ang anak o baka ninyo sa isang balon sa Araw ng Pamamahinga, pababayaan nʼyo na lang ba ito? Siyempre, iaahon nʼyo agad, hindi ba?” 6 Hindi sila nakasagot sa tanong niya.

7 Napansin ni Jesus na ang mga bisita sa handaan ay nag-uunahan sa mga upuang pandangal, kaya pinangaralan niya ang mga ito, 8 “Kapag inimbita ka sa isang kasalan, huwag mong pipiliin ang upuang pandangal, dahil baka may inimbitang mas marangal pa kaysa sa iyo. 9 At lalapitan ka ng nag-imbita sa iyo at sasabihin niya, ‘Ibigay mo sa taong ito ang upuan mo.’ Kaya mapapahiya ka at uupo na lang sa upuan ng mga karaniwang tao. 10 Ang dapat mong gawin kapag naimbitahan ka ay piliin ang upuan para sa mga karaniwang tao, para pagdating ng nag-imbita sa iyo, sasabihin niya, ‘Kaibigan, doon ka maupo sa upuang pandangal.’ Sa ganoon ay mapaparangalan ka sa harap ng lahat ng panauhin. 11 Sapagkat ang nagpapakataas ng kanyang sarili ay ibababa, at ang nagpapakababa ay itataas.” 12 Pagkatapos, sinabi ni Jesus sa nag-imbita sa kanya, “Kung maghahanda ka, huwag lang ang mga kaibigan, kapatid, kamag-anak, at mayayamang kapitbahay ang imbitahin mo, dahil baka imbitahin ka rin nila, at sa ganooʼy nasuklian ka na sa ginawa mo. 13 Kaya kung maghahanda ka, imbitahin mo rin ang mga mahihirap, mga lumpo, mga pilay at mga bulag. 14 Sa ganoon ay pagpapalain ka, dahil kahit hindi ka nila masusuklian, ang Dios ang magsusukli sa iyo sa araw ng muling pagkabuhay ng mga matuwid.”

15 Nang marinig iyon ng isa sa mga nakaupo sa may mesa, sinabi niya kay Jesus, “Mapalad ang taong makakasalo sa handaan sa kaharian ng Dios!” 16 Kinuwentuhan siya ni Jesus ng ganito, “May isang taong naghanda ng isang malaking pagdiriwang, at marami ang inimbita niya. 17 Nang handa na ang lahat, inutusan niya ang mga alipin niya na sunduin ang mga inimbita at sabihin sa kanila, ‘Tayo na, handa na ang lahat.’ 18 Pero nagdahilan ang bawat naimbitahan. Sinabi ng isa, ‘Pasensya na. Nakabili ako ng lupa at kailangang puntahan ko at tingnan.’ 19 Sabi naman ng isa, ‘Nakabili ako ng sampung baka, at susubukan ko kung mabuting ipang-araro. Pasensya na.’ 20 At sinabi naman ng isa pa, ‘Bagong kasal ako, kaya hindi ako makakadalo.’ 21 Kaya umuwi ang alipin, at ibinalita ang lahat sa amo niya. Nagalit ang amo at nag-utos ulit sa alipin niya, ‘Sige, pumunta ka sa mga kalsada at mga eskinita ng bayan at dalhin mo rito ang mga mahihirap, mga lumpo, mga bulag at mga pilay.’ 22 Nang natupad iyon ng alipin, bumalik siya sa amo niya at sinabi, ‘Nagawa ko na po ang iniutos ninyo, pero maluwag pa.’ 23 Kaya sinabi ng amo niya, ‘Pumunta ka sa mga kalsada at mga daan sa labas ng bayan at pilitin mong pumarito ang mga tao para mapuno ng panauhin ang bahay ko. 24 Tinitiyak ko sa inyo, ni isa man sa mga una kong inimbita ay hindi makakatikim ng handa ko.’ ”
Ang Pagsunod sa Panginoon(B)
25 Maraming tao ang sumunod kay Jesus sa paglalakbay niya papuntang Jerusalem. Lumingon siya at sinabi sa kanila, 26 “Ang sinumang nais sumunod sa akin, pero mas mahalaga sa kanya ang kanyang ama at ina, asawa at mga anak, mga kapatid at maging ang kanyang sarili ay hindi maaaring maging tagasunod ko. 27 Ang sinumang ayaw sumunod sa akin dahil natatakot siyang mamatay para sa akin[a] ay hindi maaaring maging tagasunod ko. 28 Ang sinumang gustong sumunod sa akin ay katulad ng isang tao na nagbabalak magtayo ng isang tore. Una, iisipin muna niya kung magkano ang magagastos niya sa pagpapatayo at kung may sapat siyang perang gagastusin hanggang sa matapos ito. 29 Sapagkat kung hindi niya ito gagawin, baka hanggang pundasyon lang ang maipagawa niya at hindi na maipatapos. Kaya pagtatawanan siya ng makakakita nito. 30 Sasabihin nila, ‘Nagpatayo ng bahay ang taong ito pero hindi nakayang ipatapos.’ 31 Katulad din ng isang hari na gustong makipagdigma sa kanyang kapwa hari. Dapat isipin muna niya kung makakayanan ng 10,000 sundalo niya ang 20,000 sundalo ng kanyang kaaway. 32 At kung sa palagay niyaʼy hindi niya kaya, magpapadala na lang siya ng mga sugo para makipagkasundo bago dumating ang kanyang kaaway. 33 Ganyan din ang gawin ninyo. Isipin muna ninyong mabuti ang pagsunod sa akin, dahil kung hindi ninyo magagawang talikuran ang lahat ng nasa inyo ay hindi kayo maaaring maging tagasunod ko.”

Jesus Attends a Banquet
14 On a day of rest—a holy day, Jesus went to eat at the home of a prominent Pharisee. The guests were watching Jesus very closely.
2 A man whose body was swollen with fluid was there. 3 Jesus reacted by asking the Pharisees and the experts in Moses’ Teachings, “Is it right to heal on the day of rest—a holy day, or not?” 4 But they didn’t say a thing.
So Jesus took hold of the man, healed him, and sent him away. 5 Jesus asked them, “If your son or your ox falls into a well on a day of rest—a holy day, wouldn’t you pull him out immediately?” 6 They couldn’t argue with him about this.
7 Then Jesus noticed how the guests always chose the places of honor. So he used this illustration when he spoke to them: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding, don’t take the place of honor. Maybe someone more important than you was invited. 9 Then your host would say to you, ‘Give this person your place.’ Embarrassed, you would have to take the place of least honor. 10 So when you’re invited, take the place of least honor. Then, when your host comes, he will tell you, ‘Friend, move to a more honorable place.’ Then all the other guests will see how you are honored. 11 Those who honor themselves will be humbled, but people who humble themselves will be honored.”
12 Then he told the man who had invited him, “When you invite people for lunch or dinner, don’t invite only your friends, family, other relatives, or rich neighbors. Otherwise, they will return the favor. 13 Instead, when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the handicapped, the lame, and the blind. 14 Then you will be blessed because they don’t have any way to pay you back. You will be paid back when those who have God’s approval come back to life.”
15 One of those eating with him heard this. So he said to Jesus, “The person who will be at the banquet in God’s kingdom is blessed.”
16 Jesus said to him, “A man gave a large banquet and invited many people. 17 When it was time for the banquet, he sent his servant to tell those who were invited, ‘Come! Everything is ready now.’
18 “Everyone asked to be excused. The first said to him, ‘I bought a field, and I need to see it. Please excuse me.’ 19 Another said, ‘I bought five pairs of oxen, and I’m on my way to see how well they plow. Please excuse me.’ 20 Still another said, ‘I recently got married, and that’s why I can’t come.’
21 “The servant went back to report this to his master. Then the master of the house became angry. He told his servant, ‘Run to every street and alley in the city! Bring back the poor, the handicapped, the blind, and the lame.’
22 “The servant said, ‘Sir, what you’ve ordered has been done. But there is still room for more people.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go to the roads and paths! Urge the people to come to my house. I want it to be full. 24 I can guarantee that none of those invited earlier will taste any food at my banquet.’ ”
The Cost of Being a Disciple
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus. He turned to them and said, 26 “If people come to me and are not ready to abandon their fathers, mothers, wives, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as their own lives, they cannot be my disciples. 27 So those who do not carry their crosses and follow me cannot be my disciples.
28 “Suppose you want to build a tower. You would first sit down and figure out what it costs. Then you would see if you have enough money to finish it. 29 Otherwise, if you lay a foundation and can’t finish the building, everyone who watches will make fun of you. 30 They’ll say, ‘This person started to build but couldn’t finish the job.’
31 “Or suppose a king is going to war against another king. He would first sit down and think things through. Can he and his 10,000 soldiers fight against a king with 20,000 soldiers? 32 If he can’t, he’ll send ambassadors to ask for terms of peace while the other king is still far away. 33 In the same way, none of you can be my disciples unless you give up everything.
34 “Salt is good. But if salt loses its taste, how will you restore its flavor? 35 It’s not any good for the ground or for the manure pile. People throw it away.
“Let the person who has ears listen!”

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)
14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) 2 There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. 3 Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) 4 But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.
5 Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) 6 And they had nothing to say.
7 When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: 8 “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. 9 If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)
12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)
The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)
15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)
16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’
18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’
19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’
20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’
21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)
22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’
23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)
The Cost of Being a Disciple
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’
31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)
