安息日的辩论

14 有一个安息日,耶稣到一个法利赛人的首领家里去吃饭[a],他们密切注意着耶稣。 当时,有一个患水肿病的人在他面前。 于是耶稣问律法师们和法利赛人,说:“在安息日使人痊愈,可以不可以?” 他们都安静下来。耶稣就扶着那人,使他痊愈,让他走了。 然后耶稣对他们说:“你们当中谁有儿子[b]或牛在安息日这一天掉到井里,而不立刻把他拉上来呢?” 他们对这些话不能答辩。

论谦卑

耶稣留意到被邀请的人怎样在那里挑选上座,就对他们讲了一个比喻说: “你被人邀请赴婚宴的时候,不要坐在上座,恐怕有比你更尊贵的人也被邀请, 那邀请你们[c]的会来对你说:‘请让座给这一位!’那时候,你就要羞惭地去坐末位了。

10 “你被邀请的时候,要去坐在末位上,好让邀请你的人一旦来,就会对你说:‘朋友,请来上座。’那时候,你就在所有一同坐席的人面前有光彩了。 11 因为每一个自我高举的都会被降卑;而自我降卑的都会被高举。”

12 耶稣又对邀请他的人说:“你预备午餐或晚餐的时候,不要叫你的朋友、兄弟、亲戚或富有的邻居,免得他们也回请你,你就得了你的回报了。 13 相反,你预备宴席的时候,要邀请那些贫穷的、残疾的、瘸腿的、瞎眼的, 14 这样你就蒙福了,因为他们没有可回报你的,而在义人复活的时候,你将得到回报。”

大筵席的比喻

15 一同坐席的有一个人听了这些话,就说:“将来能在神的国里吃饭[d]的人是蒙福的!”

16 耶稣对他说:“有一个人预备盛大的宴席,邀请了许多人。 17 到了宴席的时刻,他派奴仆去对那些被邀请的人说:‘请来吧,一切都已经预备好了!’

18 “可是他们都开始一致地推辞。第一个说:‘我买了一块地,必须去看看,请你容我推辞吧。’

19 “另一个说:‘我买了五对牛,正要去试试它们,请你容我推辞吧。’

20 “另有人说:‘我刚娶了妻子,所以不能去。’

21 “奴仆回来把这些事报告给主人。那家的主人就发怒,吩咐奴仆说:‘赶快出去,到城里的大街[e]小巷,把那些贫穷的、残疾的、瞎眼的、瘸腿的,都带到这里来。’

22 “奴仆说:‘主人,你所吩咐的已经做了,可是还有位子。’

23 “主人就对奴仆说:‘出去,到大街和小巷[f]上去,强求人进来,好坐满我的房子。 24 我告诉你们:原本被邀请的那些人,没有一个能尝到我的宴席。’”

跟随主的代价

25 有一大群人与耶稣同行。他转过身来对他们说: 26 “如果有人到我这里来,而不恨自己的父亲、母亲、妻子、儿女、兄弟、姐妹,甚至自己的生命,他就不能做我的门徒。 27 凡是不背着自己的十字架来跟从我的,也不能做我的门徒。

28 “你们当中到底有谁想盖一座楼,不先坐下来计算费用,看自己是否能够完成呢? 29 免得立好了地基,却不能完工,看见的人都开始嘲笑他, 30 说:‘这个人开始盖了,却不能完工!’

31 “或者,有哪一个君王要出去和别的君王交战,不先坐下来考虑是否能够用一万兵去迎战那用两万兵来攻打他的呢? 32 否则,就会趁着他还远的时候,差派特使去求问和平的事宜。 33 同样,你们当中任何人,如果不向自己所拥有的一切告别,就不能做我的门徒。

34 “因此盐是好的,但如果连盐也失去了味道,还能用什么来调味呢? 35 把它用在田地里或在粪肥里都不合适,只好把它丢在外面。凡是有耳可听的,就应当听!”

Jesús sana a un hidrópico

14 Aconteció un día de reposo,[a] que habiendo entrado para comer en casa de un gobernante, que era fariseo, estos le acechaban. Y he aquí estaba delante de él un hombre hidrópico. Entonces Jesús habló a los intérpretes de la ley y a los fariseos, diciendo: ¿Es lícito sanar en el día de reposo?[b] Mas ellos callaron. Y él, tomándole, le sanó, y le despidió. Y dirigiéndose a ellos, dijo: ¿Quién de vosotros, si su asno o su buey cae en algún pozo, no lo sacará inmediatamente, aunque sea en día de reposo?[c],(A) Y no le podían replicar a estas cosas.

Los convidados a las bodas

Observando cómo escogían los primeros asientos a la mesa, refirió a los convidados una parábola, diciéndoles: Cuando fueres convidado por alguno a bodas, no te sientes en el primer lugar, no sea que otro más distinguido que tú esté convidado por él, y viniendo el que te convidó a ti y a él, te diga: Da lugar a este; y entonces comiences con vergüenza a ocupar el último lugar. 10 Mas cuando fueres convidado, ve y siéntate en el último lugar, para que cuando venga el que te convidó, te diga: Amigo, sube más arriba; entonces tendrás gloria delante de los que se sientan contigo a la mesa.(B) 11 Porque cualquiera que se enaltece, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será enaltecido.(C)

12 Dijo también al que le había convidado: Cuando hagas comida o cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a vecinos ricos; no sea que ellos a su vez te vuelvan a convidar, y seas recompensado. 13 Mas cuando hagas banquete, llama a los pobres, los mancos, los cojos y los ciegos; 14 y serás bienaventurado; porque ellos no te pueden recompensar, pero te será recompensado en la resurrección de los justos.

Parábola de la gran cena

15 Oyendo esto uno de los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa, le dijo: Bienaventurado el que coma pan en el reino de Dios. 16 Entonces Jesús le dijo: Un hombre hizo una gran cena, y convidó a muchos. 17 Y a la hora de la cena envió a su siervo a decir a los convidados: Venid, que ya todo está preparado. 18 Y todos a una comenzaron a excusarse. El primero dijo: He comprado una hacienda, y necesito ir a verla; te ruego que me excuses. 19 Otro dijo: He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes, y voy a probarlos; te ruego que me excuses. 20 Y otro dijo: Acabo de casarme, y por tanto no puedo ir. 21 Vuelto el siervo, hizo saber estas cosas a su señor. Entonces enojado el padre de familia, dijo a su siervo: Ve pronto por las plazas y las calles de la ciudad, y trae acá a los pobres, los mancos, los cojos y los ciegos. 22 Y dijo el siervo: Señor, se ha hecho como mandaste, y aún hay lugar. 23 Dijo el señor al siervo: Ve por los caminos y por los vallados, y fuérzalos a entrar, para que se llene mi casa. 24 Porque os digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron convidados, gustará mi cena.

Lo que cuesta seguir a Cristo

25 Grandes multitudes iban con él; y volviéndose, les dijo: 26 Si alguno viene a mí, y no aborrece a su padre, y madre, y mujer, e hijos, y hermanos, y hermanas, y aun también su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.(D) 27 Y el que no lleva su cruz y viene en pos de mí, no puede ser mi discípulo.(E) 28 Porque ¿quién de vosotros, queriendo edificar una torre, no se sienta primero y calcula los gastos, a ver si tiene lo que necesita para acabarla? 29 No sea que después que haya puesto el cimiento, y no pueda acabarla, todos los que lo vean comiencen a hacer burla de él, 30 diciendo: Este hombre comenzó a edificar, y no pudo acabar. 31 ¿O qué rey, al marchar a la guerra contra otro rey, no se sienta primero y considera si puede hacer frente con diez mil al que viene contra él con veinte mil? 32 Y si no puede, cuando el otro está todavía lejos, le envía una embajada y le pide condiciones de paz. 33 Así, pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncia a todo lo que posee, no puede ser mi discípulo.

Cuando la sal pierde su sabor

34 Buena es la sal; mas si la sal se hiciere insípida, ¿con qué se sazonará? 35 Ni para la tierra ni para el muladar es útil; la arrojan fuera. El que tiene oídos para oír, oiga.

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)

14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.

Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) And they had nothing to say.

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)

The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)

15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)

16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’

20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)

22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’

23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)

The Cost of Being a Disciple

25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)

28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)

34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)

Cuando la sal pierde su sabor

Jesus at a Pharisee’s House(A)

14 One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee,(B) he was being carefully watched.(C) There in front of him was a man suffering from abnormal swelling of his body. Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law,(D) “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?”(E) But they remained silent. So taking hold of the man, he healed him and sent him on his way.

Then he asked them, “If one of you has a child[a] or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull it out?”(F) And they had nothing to say.

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table,(G) he told them this parable: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. 10 But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. 11 For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”(H)

12 Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,(I) 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”(J)

The Parable of the Great Banquet(K)

15 When one of those at the table with him heard this, he said to Jesus, “Blessed is the one who will eat at the feast(L) in the kingdom of God.”(M)

16 Jesus replied: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. 17 At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

18 “But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

19 “Another said, ‘I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.’

20 “Still another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’

21 “The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.’(N)

22 “‘Sir,’ the servant said, ‘what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.’

23 “Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full. 24 I tell you, not one of those who were invited will get a taste of my banquet.’”(O)

The Cost of Being a Disciple

25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.(P) 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.(Q)

28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.(R)

34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?(S) 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.(T)

“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”(U)

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
