Psalm 89
1 Een gedicht van de Ezrahiet Etan, om iets van te leren.
2 Ik zal altijd zingen over uw goedheid.
Voor altijd zal ik zingen over uw trouw.
3 Ik zing:
"Uw liefde duurt voor eeuwig.
Uw trouw staat zo vast als de hemel."
4 U heeft tegen David gezegd: "Jou heb Ik uitgekozen.
Met jou sluit Ik een verbond:
5 Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat jouw familie voor altijd zal blijven bestaan.
Door de eeuwen heen zal altijd één van jouw zonen koning zijn."
6 Daarom prijzen de engelen uw wonderen, Heer.
Ook in de gemeente prijzen de gelovigen uw trouw.
7 Want wie in de hemel is als U?
Wie van de goden is als onze Heer?
8 God is heel indrukwekkend in de bijeenkomst van de heilige engelen.
Iedereen om U heen is vol ontzag voor U.
9 Heer, God van de hemelse legers, wie is zo machtig als U?
Uw trouw straalt van U af.
10 U heerst over de wilde zee.
De hoogste golven maakt U weer rustig.
11 U heeft Rahab[a] verslagen en verpletterd.
Met uw sterke arm verjoeg U uw vijanden.
12 Van U is de hemel, van U is ook de aarde.
De hele wereld met alles wat daarop is, is door U gemaakt.
13 U maakte het noorden en het zuiden.
De bergen van de Tabor en de Hermon juichen voor U.
14 U bent machtig.
U bent sterk.
15 U heerst rechtvaardig.
In alles wat U doet bent U vol liefde en trouw.
16 Het is heerlijk voor de mensen als ze uw stem kennen.
Ze kunnen genieten, Heer, van uw aanwezigheid.
17 Elke dag juichen ze voor U.
Omdat U goed voor hen bent, worden ze machtig.
18 Want U bent hun kracht.
Door uw goedheid zal het goed met ons gaan.
19 De Heer heeft ons een koning gegeven
die ons beschermt als een schild.
20 U heeft vroeger tegen uw dienaar[b] gezegd:
"Ik heb iemand uit het volk uitgekozen.
Hem heb Ik tot een machtige held gemaakt.
Ik zal hem altijd helpen.
21 Ik heb mijn dienaar David uitgekozen.
Met mijn heilige zalf-olie heb Ik hem tot koning gezalfd.
22 Ik zal hem altijd leiden.
Ik zal hem sterk en machtig maken.
23 Geen vijand zal hem verslaan,
geen schurk zal hem kwaad doen.
24 Ik zal zijn vijanden voor zijn ogen doden.
De mensen die hem haten, zal Ik straffen.
25 Ik zal altijd goed voor hem zijn.
Ik zal hem altijd trouw zijn.
Dankzij Mij zal hij machtig worden.
26 Ik zal ervoor zorgen
dat hij zal heersen over zeeën en rivieren.
27 Hij zal tegen Mij zeggen: 'U bent mijn Vader, mijn God, de rots onder mijn voeten.'
28 Ik zal hem tot mijn oudste zoon maken,
tot de machtigste koning van de aarde.
29 Voor altijd zal Ik goed voor hem zijn.
Ik zal Mij voor eeuwig houden aan mijn verbond met hem.
30 Zijn familie zal voor altijd blijven bestaan.[c]
Zijn familie zal heersen zolang de hemel bestaat.
31 Maar als zijn zonen zich niet aan mijn wetten houden,
als ze niet leven zoals Ik het wil,
32 als ze Mij niet willen gehoorzamen
en niet willen doen wat Ik zeg,
33 dan zal Ik hen met rampen straffen
voor hun ongehoorzaamheid.
34 Maar van David zal Ik altijd houden.
Ik zal hem altijd trouw zijn.
35 Ik zal Mij altijd aan mijn verbond houden.
Ik zal mijn belofte niet breken.
36 Ooit heb Ik bij Mijzelf gezworen (en hoe zou Ik tegen David kunnen liegen!):
37 "Zijn familie zal voor altijd blijven bestaan.
Zijn familie zal regeren, zolang als de zon zal bestaan,
38 zolang als de maan aan de hemel zal staan.
Dat zweer Ik bij Mijzelf."
39 Toch bent U boos geworden
op de man[d] die U tot koning heeft gezalfd.
Toch heeft U hem verlaten.
40 U heeft uw verbond met hem verbroken,
U heeft zijn kroon tegen de grond gegooid.[e]
41 U heeft de stadsmuren afgebroken,
de burchten tot een puinhoop gemaakt.
42 Iedereen die langskwam heeft hem beroofd.
De buurvolken lachen hem uit.
43 U heeft zijn vijanden machtig gemaakt.
Ze zijn blij dat ze sterker zijn dan hij.
44 U heeft hem niet geholpen in de strijd.
Daardoor kon hij niet overwinnen.
45 Zijn macht en zijn rijkdom heeft U van hem afgenomen.
U heeft een einde gemaakt aan zijn heerschappij.
46 U heeft zijn leven verkort.
U heeft ervoor gezorgd dat hij voor schut kwam te staan.
47 Hoelang zal dit nog duren, Heer?
Zult U mij voor altijd verlaten?
Hoelang zult U nog boos op mij blijven?
48 Denk er alstublieft aan hoe kort een mens maar leeft.
Als U zo boos op iemand blijft, heeft hij voor niets geleefd!
49 Is er ook maar één mens die niet zal sterven,
die zijn leven kan redden van de dood?
50 U heeft aan David gezworen dat U voor altijd goed voor hem zou zijn.
Heeft U uw belofte dan nu verbroken?
51 Zie toch hoe we voor schut staan.
De spot van de andere volken draag ik alle dagen in mijn binnenste mee!
52 Ze lachen ons uit, Heer.
Ze lachen uw koning uit, overal waar hij gaat.
53 Prijs de Heer voor eeuwig.
Amen, ja, zo is het.

- Psalmen 89:11 'Rahab' betekent 'trots'. Er zou Egypte mee bedoeld kunnen zijn, omdat Egypte zich niets van God aantrok en Israël niet wilde laten gaan.
- Psalmen 89:20 Waarschijnlijk bedoelt de schrijver hiermee Samuel. Samuel moest David tot koning gaan zalven toen David nog bij zijn vader thuis woonde. Lees 1 Samuel 16.
- Psalmen 89:30 Lees 2 Samuel 7:16.
- Psalmen 89:39 Dit gaat niet langer over David, maar over één van zijn achterkleinzonen: koning Zedekia van Juda.

永远配受称颂的上帝
以斯拉人以探的训诲诗。
89 我要永远称颂耶和华的慈爱！
我的口要传扬你的信实直到万代。
2 我要让人知道：
你的慈爱存到永远，
你的信实与天同存。
3 你曾说：
“我与我所拣选的人立了约，
向我的仆人大卫起了誓，
4 ‘我要使你的后裔永远坐在宝座上，世代为王。’”（细拉）
5 耶和华啊，
诸天要颂扬你的奇妙，
众圣者要赞美你的信实。
6 天上有谁能与耶和华相比，
众天使中谁能像祂？
7 祂在众圣者的会中大受敬畏，
祂的威严无与伦比。
8 万军之上帝耶和华啊，
谁能像你能力伟大，信实无比？
9 你掌管汹涌的大海，
平息惊涛骇浪。
10 你击碎海怪[a]，
以大能的臂膀驱散仇敌。
11 天地都属于你，
世界和其中的一切都是你造的。
12 你创造了南方和北方，
他泊山和黑门山都向你欢呼。
13 你有大能的臂膀，
双手充满力量。
14 你的宝座以公平和正义为根基，
你以慈爱和信实为先锋。
15 耶和华啊，
懂得向你欢呼的人有福了，
他们走在你的荣光之中。
16 他们因你的名终日欢欣，
因你的公义而雀跃。
17 你是他们的力量和荣耀，
你的恩惠使我们充满力量。
18 耶和华赐下保护我们的盾牌，
我们的王属于以色列的圣者。
19 你曾在异象中对你忠心的子民说：
“我已把力量赐给一位勇士，
已擢升我在民中拣选的人。
20 我找到了我的仆人大卫，
用我的圣油膏立他。
21 我的手必扶持他，
我的臂膀必加给他力量。
22 仇敌胜不过他，
恶人不能欺压他。
23 我要当着他的面击垮他的敌人，
打倒恨他的人。
24 我要以信实和慈爱待他，
他必因我的名而充满力量。
25 我要使他左手掌管大海，
右手统治江河。
26 他要向我高呼，
‘你是我的父亲，我的上帝，
拯救我的磐石。’
27 我要立他为我的长子，
使他做天下至尊的君王。
28 我要永远用慈爱待他，
我与他立的约永不更改。
29 我要使他的后裔永无穷尽，
让他的王位与天同存。
30 如果他的后代背弃我的律法，
不遵行我的典章，
31 触犯我的律例，
不守我的诫命，
32 我就会因他们的罪用杖惩罚他们，
用鞭子责打他们。
33 但我不会收回我的慈爱，
也不会背弃我的信实。
34 我必不毁约，也不食言。
35 因我曾凭自己的圣洁向大卫起誓，
我绝无谎言。
36 他的后裔必永无穷尽，
他的王位必在我面前如日长存，
37 又如天上亘古不变的月亮，
永远坚立。”（细拉）
38 如今，你对你所膏立的王大发怒气，丢弃了他。
39 你废弃与他所立的约，
把他的冠冕扔在尘土中。
40 你攻破了他的城墙，
使他的坚垒沦为废墟。
41 路人都趁机劫掠他的财物，
邻居都嘲笑他。
42 你助长了他敌人的势力，
使敌人洋洋得意。
43 你使他的刀剑失去锋芒，
你使他败退沙场。
44 你使他的威荣尽失，
王位倾覆。
45 你使他未老先衰，
满面羞愧。（细拉）
46 耶和华啊，
你隐藏自己要到何时呢？
要到永远吗？
你的怒火要烧到何时呢？
47 愿你顾念我的生命何其短暂！
你创造的世人何其虚幻！
48 谁能长生不死？
谁能救自己脱离死亡的权势呢？（细拉）
49 主啊，你从前凭自己的信实向大卫应许的慈爱在哪里呢？
50 主啊，求你顾念你仆人——我所受的羞辱，
我心中如何忍受列国的嘲笑。
51 耶和华啊，
你的仇敌嘲笑你所膏立的王，
他们嘲笑他的一举一动。
52 耶和华永远当受称颂。

89 I will (A)sing of the lovingkindnesses of Yahweh forever;
From generation to generation I will (B)make known Your (C)faithfulness with my mouth.
2 For I have said, “(D)Lovingkindness will be built up forever;
In the heavens You will establish Your (E)faithfulness.”
3 “I have cut a covenant with (F)My chosen;
I have (G)sworn to David My [d]servant,
4 I will establish your (H)seed forever
And build up your (I)throne from generation to generation.” [e]Selah.
5 The (J)heavens will praise Your wonders, O Yahweh;
Your faithfulness also (K)in the assembly of the (L)holy ones.
6 For (M)who in the sky is comparable to Yahweh?
Who among the [f](N)sons of the mighty is like Yahweh,
7 A God (O)greatly dreaded in the council of the (P)holy ones,
And [g](Q)fearsome above all those who are around Him?
8 O Yahweh God of hosts, (R)who is like You, O mighty Yah?
Your faithfulness also surrounds You.
9 You rule the swelling of the sea;
When its waves rise, You (S)still them.

You (U)scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm.

And by Your righteousness they are exalted.
17 For You are the beauty of (AH)their strength,

18 For our (AJ)shield belongs to Yahweh,

19 Formerly You spoke in vision to Your [l]holy [m]ones,
And said, “I have bestowed help to a (AL)mighty one;
I have exalted one (AM)chosen from the people.
20 I have (AN)found David My [n]servant;
With My holy (AO)oil I have anointed him,
21 With whom (AP)My hand will be established;
My arm also will (AQ)strengthen him.
22 The enemy will not [o]deceive him,
Nor the [p](AR)son of unrighteousness afflict him.
23 But I shall (AS)crush his adversaries before him,
And strike those who hate him.
24 My (AT)faithfulness and My lovingkindness will be with him,
And in My name his (AU)horn will be exalted.
25 I shall also set his hand (AV)on the sea
And his right hand on the rivers.
26 He will call to Me, ‘You are (AW)my Father,
My God, and the (AX)rock of my salvation.’
27 I also shall make him My (AY)firstborn,
The (AZ)highest of the kings of the earth.
28 My (BA)lovingkindness I will keep for him forever,
And My (BB)covenant shall be confirmed to him.
29 So I will set up his (BC)seed to endure forever
And his (BD)throne (BE)as the days of heaven.
30 “If his sons (BF)forsake My law
And do not walk in My judgments,
31 If they profane My statutes
And do not keep My commandments,
32 Then I will punish their transgression with the (BG)rod
And their iniquity with striking.
33 But I will not break off (BH)My lovingkindness from him,
Nor deal falsely in My faithfulness.
34 My (BI)covenant I will not profane,
Nor will I (BJ)alter what comes forth from My lips.
35 [q]Once I have (BK)sworn by My holiness;
I will not lie to David.
36 His (BL)seed shall endure forever
And his (BM)throne (BN)as the sun before Me.
37 It shall be established forever (BO)like the moon,
And the (BP)witness in the sky is faithful.” [r]Selah.
38 But You have (BQ)cast off and (BR)rejected,
You have been full of wrath [s]against Your (BS)anointed.
39 You have (BT)spurned the covenant of Your [t]slave;
You have (BU)profaned (BV)his crown to the ground.
40 You have (BW)broken down all his walls;
You have (BX)beset his strongholds with ruin.
41 (BY)All who pass along the way plunder him;
He has become a (BZ)reproach to his neighbors.
42 You have (CA)exalted the right hand of his adversaries;
You have (CB)made all his enemies be glad.
43 You also turn back the edge of his sword
And have (CC)not made him arise in battle.
44 You have made his [u](CD)splendor to cease
And cast his throne to the ground.
45 You have (CE)shortened the days of his youth;
You have (CF)wrapped him up with shame. Selah.
46 (CG)How long, O Yahweh?
Will You hide Yourself forever?
Will Your (CH)wrath burn like fire?
47 (CI)Remember [v]what my span of life is;
For what (CJ)vanity [w]You have created all the sons of men!
48 What man can live and not (CK)see death?
Can he (CL)provide his soul escape from the [x]power of Sheol? Selah.
49 Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, O Lord,
Which You (CM)swore to David in Your faithfulness?
50 Remember, O Lord, the (CN)reproach of Your [y]slaves;
[z]How I bear in my bosom the reproach of all the many peoples,
51 With which (CO)Your enemies have reproached, O Yahweh,
With which they have reproached the footsteps of (CP)Your anointed.
52 (CQ)Blessed be Yahweh forever!
